Lovely looking property left ery disappointed. Food poor & expensive. Fish & Chips £17.00 but over cooked, no taste & shrivelled up peas. Prime location & potential next to a hotel. Chef stood outside kitchen smoking with a large number if cigarette butt ends on the floor & dirty cloth around his neck.

We ate here with friends - we had all been to the Duxford airshow and were staying in the Holiday Inn next door. I ordered the Sunday roast - Belly Pork - and my friends ordered the Beef Stroganoff. They brought me the Roast Beef by mistake (they admitted they had got this wrong) but rather than wait for the Pork to be cooked I took the Beef. The Pork then appeared as well! The beef was fine but the pork was overcooked. The vegetables were passable. The yorkshire and roast potatoes were good. However, my friends one by one admitted that their stroganoff was inedible due to the meat being so chewy. The staff replaced the food with a different order. When it came to desserts the waitress said we didn't need a menu as she knew what they had - my friend ordered a creme caramel. When it came there was chocolate ice cream on top of the pud - my friend doesn't like ice cream so she sent it back, only to be told they had no more, so she had to go without (this could have been avoided with a better description of the dessert). I don't know if we were unlucky, but the menu was uninspiring and the food clearly an issue. The scampi and chips ordered as a replacement for the stroganoff was apparently 'ok'. I wouldn't recommend this place for food and the staff seem jaded. That said, the waitress that served us could not have been more helpful or pleasant and I would give her five stars!!

I can only rate the food as I stayed in the ihg next door. So the pub is ok and the staff are friendly. My starter was pretty good (pork belly bites). My main course was fish and chips. Both the fish and the chips were really well cooked....however, the fish has a slight smell of amonia.. my guess us that it was 4+ days old.. I only ate a bit and left the rest... just as well the starter was big! Can't say that I would recommend this pub.

This venue has lovely staff and great food but unfortunately I cannot give it good review rating as 3 out of 5 of us experienced bed bug bites and also took photos of some live examples and our bites. My friend sat in the chair all night as they were near her headboard. The bites can be delayed when they appear but I now have 20-30. The establishment is refunding us but they do require a full fumigation before any further guests stay.

One of those places that is almost perfect. The first pint of lager tasted slightly stale, which meant it was probably the first order of the day, the next one was spot on. The lamb rump was however perfectly pink. Even so, and at the price something was missing, difficult to lay a finger on, perhaps a little bit of the Maillard reaction needed? Will be perfectly happy to have it again however and any improvement to almost perfect would be a bonus :-)

Visited last night for a meal with my husband and child, I was a bit skeptical due to the reviews but was pleasantly surprised due to new owners. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and comfortable by Brett, His customer skills are amazing and I'm certain he could change any negative reviews from previous customers due to the old owners if those customers returned. We were reminded to register our number plate for the parking and signs are now clearly in place to ensure no one gets fined. With the previous owners I believe this was a big issue and has been easily rectified. Portion sizes were generous and the fish was easily the best fish I've ever tried. The pub soon filled up so would recommend booking, Brett interacted with every table constantly making people laugh and engaging well, making the atmosphere really relaxed and enjoyable for everyone. Overall a much needed lovely evening. Thank you!

This old charming pub did not disappoint. The food was significantly better than expected. The Cajun Chicken was great. It looked a tad over cooked but was perfect. Moist inside and crispy coating. The chips were the best I’ve had in a long while. We ordered dessert, but there was an issue with the serving size. This was without hesitation removed from the bill. The service was very good. This was undoubtedly the worst meal we have had in a long time. Each of our four microwaved meals were incredibly disappointing and unbelievably over priced. We paid the bill only to find we had paid a 10% discretionary service charge for poor service and I was charged an extra £2 for a light sprinkling of cheese on my lasagne. That meal was barely edible and my wife's three sausages on a bed of lumpy grey mashed potato cost £20. Our big mistake was not reading the reviews below and despite the assurances of this restaurant it shows no signs of raising its standards.

Visited the restaurant for a family lunch but unfortunately the food was really poor and the prices are extortionate for the value. If we had read the reviews before coming we would have avoided this restaurant. The saving grace was the new GM, who was very attentive and took onboard the feedback well. It is clear that she is trying to improve the quality of the food and the overall service in the restaurant but unfortuntely the food is definitely letting the pub down at the moment. We very rarely complain about food but it was barely weatherspoons quality and 3x the price. The chef was very nice and interacted with out 8 month son which was very sweet and did make us feel welcomed. Just such a shame that the food lacked care. Hopefully the place will pick up soon!!!

Wish we’d read these reviews before we booked but needed to stay overnight after visiting the Battle of Britain day at Duxford. The restaurant food is on a par with a works canteen. I ordered gammon egg and chips a special of the day. How can you get that simple dish wrong. Gammon was thin dried up rashers the eggs were both set solid and the chips were just skinny French fries. The girl behind the bar failed to exchange eye contact when I complained and just said she would exchange the dish. No apology given. I declined her offer as I felt insulted that this dish had even been put in front of me in a “restaurant “ and was given a refund for the dish and the service charge was not applied. My wife’s king prawns were shrimps but that’s another story. Enough said just be warned DO NOT give them your custom.

£17.60 for a luke warm lasagne and two slices of luke warm limp garlic bread that has never seen any signs of garlic. Plus the 10% service charge 👎 the food arrived within 5 or so minutes I would guess this was microwaved. It was cold in the centre, okay they changed it for some hot lasagna but you would assume they check the food temperature with a thermometer to comply with food regulations? Don’t bother eating here if staying at the Holiday Inn next door, okay their food is microwaved but it is cheaper, hot and no service charges Plus very friendly staff 👍 keep up the good work at the Holiday Inn.

Had been before a few years ago after visiting IWM Duxford air museum when we had a lovely meal. But my how things change. Booked for 5:30 pm on a Saturday and arrived about 25 minutes early, having spent a day at Duxford with the family. Doors locked and no one around. Come 5.30 buzzed entry phone and was admitted to lobby where bar doors still locked and staff busying themselves ignoring us. 3 or 4 minutes later eventually doors unlocked but still ignored by staff. Finally got seated and given a distinctly unimaginative menu. Placed order. Food finally arrived 70 minutes after we had arrived. No one in our party of 7 liked their food. Tried to complain to a “manager” who didn’t listen and insisted on shutting me down, continually claiming things are different after Covid. When I got cross with her attitude she pulled the “ you’re getting aggressive with me and I’m going away “ card. Eventually gained the attention of a real manager. After hearing of our experience she conceded we had been given appalling service and agreed to charge only for our drinks. I had been looking forward to the meal but this restaurant has let its standards drop to zero stars now. Food was terrible, service was unacceptably slow. I will never use this restaurant again and would recommend diners to look elsewhere. Until their menu and cooking improves substantially this establishment is best avoided. Manager did the decent thing in the end but why did things get that bad in the first place?

We were staying at the Holiday Inn and having eaten there the first night thought we'd try the Red Lion. Now, I appreciate we were in the middle of covid restrictions but only 4 choices of main with one of those being unavailable, I cannot help think they could have worked a little harder. I opted for Sausage and mash (£16.50)!!! And the only veggie option left was mushroom risotto for the wife (which she wasn't crazy about). Other reviews on Trip make the place sound amazing and maybe I'm being a little harsh, so the wife and I will give them another chance and possibly return when the world returns to normal and the Red Lion restores the full menu.

It's was approx £17 for an afternoon tea for 2. We went on a Saturday because I work in the week. There was a wedding reception and a birthday party, as well as a few others that turned up for afternoon tea. The car park has signs saying you need to pay for parking, but you can register your car at the bar so you don't have to pay. This is unclear when you get there. The staff were lovely and attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately, because they were busy, I think they made the afternoon teas before we turned up. The sandwiches had gone stale around the edges, the scones were rock hard and crumbled as soon as you tried to cut them, and very minimal effort had gone into it.I wasn't expecting it the be amazing, because of the price I paid. But when I looked at the quantity and quality of the food, it wasn't really that good value for money at all. We had a sandwich each, 2 rock hard scones each, and a few desserts. This is a very old, beautiful pub, unfortunately surrounded by newly built buildings, like the hotel. So now the pub looks very out of place.Brilliant staff, poor food.

We were presented with a luke warm bowl of thin cheese sauce a piece of stale bread cut in to triangles and a small pot of cucumber and carrot batons. The sauce just dropped off the vegetables ( we weren’t offered plates), and had very little flavour. The chef obviously had never eaten or prepared a cheese fondue in his life. The rest of the meal was indifferent at best. Would never go back or recommend. I don’t usually complain about meals but this was dire.

We decided to head over to the Red Lion one evening after a busy day out and had heard great things. The warm welcome instantly made us feel comfortable and we were sat at a quiet table by the fireplace where we could relax. Drinks were quickly brought to our table and we ordered without any issues. The first course we had was fish croquettes and ribs; they were both very good. The ribs were incredibly tender and the fish croquettes were full of flavour. Having had a fancy for a burger we were both looking forward to our main where we added bacon and cheese and it was definitely worth it. The burgers were thick and juicy and cooked just right with a hint of pink in the middle - just what we needed after a busy day. We were quite full but couldn’t resist the dessert. Both went for sticky toffee pudding. I have worked in a dessert restaurant myself but can hands down say this was the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had. The sauce that accompanied it was incredible!!! Anyone who just likes let alone loves sticky toffee has to have this. It was absolutely amazing. My brother and sister stayed at the Red Lion Hotel and we joined them in the evening there for a meal. My sister was already fuming about her room but we got the room changed and moved on. The restaurant itself was quiet for a Friday evening and that should have been a sign. It's dark and there is no atmosphere, and the staff seemed inexprienced and frankly disinterested. Having taken our stater order and read it back, one of the starters was completely wrong (kalimari instead of lamb cutlets!) so had to be returned. It didn't arrive back until we had finished the other starters, which were pretty bland to be honest. Main courses were correct and actually pretty good but again the service was poor, and when the bottle of wine was changed, the wet bottle was dripped all over one of the main courses - the waiter didn't even notice. When the bill arrived, for £200, the waiter told us, as if we should be grateful, that they had taken off 25% of the cost of the late starter - a huge £1.50!! - from the bill because it arrived so late. I'd call that taking the mickey (or something similar). All in all a pretty shoddy, and not cheap, evening. The food was pretty average, but the atmosphere and in particular the service, was appalling. I'm not sure how this place survives to be honest. We won't be returning.

But as it was four star I wrongly believed that the rooms would be good. On going to the rooms the carpets on the stairs were thread bare. There were also stains. On looking at the first room it was like a broom cupboard. The second was not much better. The bags were dumped as we had arranged to have dinner. The dinner was OK but the staff seemed inexperienced. The table next to us ordered bread and butter pudding and ended up getting just bread and butter. On further inspection of the rooms there was no glass to use for rinsing your mouth. As already stated the rooms were like broom cupboard's and on looking closer the windows were filthy with mould. The net curtains were also black with mould. There was a black hand print above the bath in one room. There was no shower just an attachment and no shower curtain so water would end up on the floor. There was an obvious damp problem in the bathrooms as the paint and plaster was coming off the wall. The walls were thin and I could hear everything going on in the room next to mine. It almost seemed that the person was in my room. I will up load photographs of this. If I was the manager of the hotel I would be embarrassed. Strangely the next morning there was no manager around. I would definitely not suggest that you should stay in this hotel

Main course was average. We planned to ask for dessert menu. Waited ages for staff to clear away mains - it never happened. Eventually decided just to pay for mains and leave. We went up to bar, without me saying a word, the waiter just put my bill in front of me - without saying anything.

The food we had was ok but nothing special and took a long time to arrive. For drinks things were a bit better and service was prompt.

Service was terrible. You couldn't cut the steak as it was such a bad cut of meat. We left two of the steaks and advised the waitress but she did nothing except say she would advise the chef. We ordered three desserts and a hot drink - one dessert and hot drink never arrived - in the end we ran out of time and had to pay. They reduced the steaks by half as we ate half when we complained upon paying. The ice cream and sorbet was nice but I would not recommend the steaks or the service.

I booked this for the 14th December 2018. I asked about Christmas Dinner and asked if the was a Vegetarian option to be told yes there was it would be Beetroot Risotto. So I booked for me and two friends one who drove up from Yeovil. Turned up asked for the Christmas Menu to be told the was no Christmas menu mentioned the Risotto to informed they had no Vegetarian meals. As it was to late to go anywhere else we had to stay and no Christmas spirit and it cost £111.00 for the privilege. This spoilt which should have been a very enjoyable get together.

After driving 350 miles to the hotel across the road from this establishment we didn't want another drive to find somewhere to eat that night, so across the road we go. Ignored by the staff at the sign saying wait to be seated was just the start, so we sat ourselves down, foolishly expecting a staff member to ask if we wanted firstly a drink and secondly 'how about the menu Sir?'

Dined here one night when staying at the HIE across the road. This restaurant is owned and operated by the HIE operators.Food was good but menu a little pretentious! As the bill could be tabbed over to the hotel I signed but was not given a copy and left. Later when looking at a receipt discovered that a 10% service charge had been added automatically. This issue is currently being dealt with with the HIE management painfully slowly! Would not particularly recommend.

500 yr old Inn well refurbished still with lots of original features. Room was on the small side but adequate for myself. Staff were very helpful. I only had breakfasts but other than the cooked breakfast being a bit greasy for me everything else was very well presented. I would recommend the porridge

Can’t fault the food - despite the ridiculously long wait. It was all beautifully presented, tasty and plentiful, and good value. Service let the place down - lovely staff but they were young, inexperienced and lacking attentiveness. Which was a real shame.

We ate as a family early one evening when it was quiet. The service was fine initially but after the main course we weren't asked if we wanted more drinks, sweets or coffee. I had to go the bar to ask for the bill.

This place is brillliantly situated, right next door to the Whittlesford Parkway train station and the Holiday Inn express, plus of course it has its own accomodation. After first walking in there was a feeling of a general lack of staff, presumably all busy serving other customers, understandable on a hot sunny day. There is a lot of seating available inside and outside which is always good to see if you're not a fan of the heat. I know I was eating in the evening, fairly early to be fair, a lot of the food seemed quite heavy, main courses, unfortunately no options for say a club sandwich or a salad. In this extreme heat I dont know many people who can tuck into a full steak and chips etc type of meal. I ordered a chicken burger which came with chips and some salad as I didnt want the brioche bun, plus a large glass of sauvignon blanc. Usually in a bar you are asked what kind of sauvignon, eg., chilean, new zeland or house, no option available and was shocked when I paid the bill to discover that large glass cost £9!! For one glass, shockingly expensive. The chicken burger was ok, although it came with onion marmalade, why? Why on earth would you put an onion marmalade with chicken? Beef yes, not chicken, all rather strange and quite off putting. The food was ok, but the marmalade option didnt go with the chicken at all and actually spoilt the dish in my view. We're all different of course. I suspect the food is better at lunchtime, watch out for the wine prices though !

Recently stopped at the adjacent holiday Inn. We went over to the pub and watched the England match. The pub is really nice with friendly staff. Lovely garden to sit out in. We returned later on in the evening where they were holding a charity event, it didn't interfere with the serving of our drinks, the only down side is that they would of been too busy to wipe down the sticky tables!

First off we enjoyed the convenience of the short walk from the Holiday Inn Express to the restaurant. The service was great, the prices and variety good. Most of all we enjoyed the historic atmosphere of this traditional old pub.

Eight of us came for food, £14.50 for fish and chips, the meal was terrible. We asked for bread and butter for eight and was told it would cost an extra £8.00. I felt like going to a shop and buying a loaf of bread. We did ask to speak to the Manager, he decided not to come to our table. For our money we received 7 chips and fish that was full of grease and some peas/beans. This place thinks its posh. Let me say ive had a better fish and chips at the hungry horse and at a third of the price. Avoid if possible.

Visited using a voucher we’d been given for afternoon tea. The pub is quite attractive and our food was pleasant enough, but overall we felt it fell well below expectations for a 4* Hotel. Despite arriving punctually at the time booked and the restaurant being very quiet, our food was not brought for about half an hour after we sat down. The waitress brought a pot of tea very promptly, but in a very utilitarian brown teapot (no fancy china here) and made no attempt at welcoming chat or checking if everyone wanted tea (I wanted coffee!). We asked for one coffee and extra hot water, but had a long wait before these arrived. We had to request teaspoons and sugar as there were none on the table.

I thought I’d enjoy this pub more than I did. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was in a nice spot but the reason I brought my score down to a three is the food. I enjoyed my meal of fish and chips but my brother and cousins didn’t like there meal at all.

I’ve been going Hot Numbers for years and it’s never been a cheap option but the venue and quality of food always kept me coming back. Sadly that balance has slipped away of late and the pricing on the reworked menu doesn’t justify the food they’re serving now. On my visit today I ordered the ‘new’ mushroom on sourdough and it arrived as a single piece of bread with a covering of mushrooms, which yes is what it says it will be but it was comically small and looked like something you’d get on a child’s menu. At £11 it’s just too much (in my opinion) and I’ll be heading elsewhere for a while. The plague of flies which are covering the lights on the upper floor isn’t particularly nice either, how no one who works there has thought to try and sort them out is a mystery.

We waited 50 minutes for the food which was poor. My husband returned his burger and the sweetcorn was reheated and soggy.

Generally an enjoyable experience. We were met with a very friendly and warm welcome. Food was very good, choice of drinks suited our party well and waiting staff were friendly and polite. The only negative was that the time between ordering and receiving our main courses was quite a long period (20mins approx,) but that didn't spoil the evening in any way. Certainly will consider returning

My wife convinced me to go here, and I regret nothing: Poppy (the owner's dog) greeted us at the entrance and entertained my daughter while waiting for the drinks and menus, the location is beautiful and relaxed, the staff is warm and welcoming, the food is fresh and cooked to perfection, the service is very efficient and professional, and the garden gives a feeling of "home". On top of that, the ice cream was the best I have ever had. 10/10, I would recommend to anyone who wants to have a great time with the family and friends.
