Monkfield Arms in South Cambridgeshire

Arrived at 6.30pm but still waiting an hour and a half later at 8pm and told that there was a large table which took precedence and now 10 min wait on top of the 1 1/2 hour wait, so 8.30pm, 2 hour wait. Might I add I am sitting in the pub right now and no function room and not hugely busy for food

Nice friendly atmosphere. Found a table and ordered from the bar. Food served in a timely manner. The waitress serving was very friendly, smiled and was extremely good at her job. Food good.

1st time in this pub.. walked in and greeted by friendly barman who was chatty and very polite called Owen. Couldn’t do enough for us. Kept asking if we were ok and needed anything. Would recommend. Thank you Owen for a lovely experience. Makes a difference when you have lovely staff.

Visited today and had a wonderful young man called Owen who went out of his way to make us welcome. Always helpful and genial throughout our visit. Cannot say enough about the staff each time I visit particularly a young lady called Cara who is a treasure that Marstons need keep hold of.

Was pleasantly surprised today I decided to return and give this pub one last shot after a few bad experiences but today has changed my mind Owen was so friendly helpful and such a pleasure he was really helpful when I needed assistance with the menu the food was better than before!!! Definitely will return!!

Came in for a pint in the garden and this turned into a 3h visit with a full on lunch. Team were well friendly and food was amazing and good value for the money you paying .

This is the only pub in Cambourne within walking distance of the Hilton double tree. It seems to be very much a locals pub. Good prices but we had food here and found the waitresses very uninterested and offered poor service. Food was poor quality....

We got delayed on the roads on a long journey back from hols so took a detour to the nearest eatery we could find. I was worried about the veggie options but need not have been. I had an amazing meat-free burger with jackfuit on top and ordered a side of halloumi fries which were also great. The rest of the family had various burger choices and we were ALL very happy with our food. Friendly service too. And great value for money. Would definitely stop here again when next in the area.

Stopped for a meal on a long drive home, and wasn't disappointed. Food was cheap, but well cooked and nicely presented, and most importantly tasted great. Decent portion sizes, too. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Good range of options, including vegan/vegetarian, and kids menu too.

Lovely food, cheap pub grub which we couldn’t fault. Service was a little slow considering it wasn’t busy but just think they were short staffed. Ice and friendly though. Will pop back as local.

Es triste decir que la segunda noche no fue tan buena como la primera: mi pastel de carne contenía solo un cubo de carne, pero lo intercambiaron sin dudar Y aprecio que el personal de la cocina no pudiera saber que era una tarta sin levantar la tapa, ¡así que tal vez necesite verificar la cadena de suministro en ese! PERO en general, ambas noches fueron una buena relación calidad-precio y el servicio fue excelente. Si estoy pasando de nuevo, definitivamente volvería a aparecer. Gracias a todo el personal que nos atendió.

I stopped here for a few beers whilst staying local the bar was clean and well presented and the staff were pleasant and welcoming although I didn't eat anything the food which passed me looked delicious

Popped in with my parents at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. Took a while to place the order as only one person serving and others before me were ordering drinks.I had the fajita burger, chicken was rock hard.The others had chicken gourjourns and they were happy with theirs.The desserts. I had smocks, which was lovely, dad had apple pie, he enjoyed his. We had finished ours way before the last two was brought out, and then they got the order wrong, so just returned it and got a refund.They need two people serving at all time, one till for drinks and the other for food. I appreciate it is cheap grub, but nothing seems fresh, and was told they had trouble in finding the doughnuts in the freezer for my daughters dessert. I expect everything comes out of a freezer and cooked to order.They need to get their act together, especially as another pub is coming to the area.

We left Papworth hospital & was needing lunch.We drove to Cambourne & found this pub.At first thought the "kerb appeal" of piled up tables & chairs outside a bit off putting but we thought we would give it a try,so glad we did.We chose the 2 course lunch menu for £5.50 each such good value we could have had 3 courses for £6.50 but we couldn't manage a dessert as well !!.We both ordered prawn cocktail & ham eggs & chips for the price we thought they would be small portions but no they were very generous .We were very happy with the food & the price.Must mention Yasmin who took our order at the bar was very helpful & so friendly.So next appointment we will be back !!

5 dishes and 4 were appalling. Dried up sausages that looked stale. A pie and veg with no gravy and missing peas! Asked for gravy and it was lumpy. The waffle and chucken the waffle was like a rock. Won’t be going back.

It appears to be the only local pub in Cambourne. Built in the same manner as most other buildings in Cambourne ( is pretty soulless and unimaginative), it lacks any kind of 'local pub atmosphere, and is more like some pit stop on a motorway. Whoever designed this as a pub didn't have a clue about what a pub is.

Gané un cupón de 25 para una comida y bebidas, gracias.Llevé a mi esposa y a mi tío para un cumpleaños tardío al monje de Arms en Camborne.Nos dieron la bienvenida y nos llevaron a nuestra mesa reservada por el camarero y luego de unos 10 minutos, mi esposa fue al bar y pidió nuestra comida y una bebida cada una.Las comidas llegaron calientes y excelentes raciones para cada uno de nosotros. Después de unos 15 minutos, el joven camarero preguntó si nuestra comida estaba bien, lo cual era, lástima que el Orion de cerdo asado no estaba disponible, pero la carne asada era excelente como alternativa.Todos disfrutamos la comida y regresaremos como siempre para nuestra reunión mensual.Gracias de nuevo

El pub se ha arruinado desde el reciente cambio de gestión. El nuevo personal está totalmente desinteresado y desconectado. El servicio es terriblemente lento y el personal ha sido grosero cuando se corrigen errores en los pedidos. Recientemente he tomado varias bebidas en las que los barriles y las tuberías claramente no han estado a la altura (una pinta estaba llena de líquido de limpieza, otras han sido planas o no del todo bien) Espero que los marstones intervengan rápidamente.

He comido aquí varias veces y no he tenido una mala experiencia. Su menú es extenso, cubriendo toda la comida habitual del pub, así como una buena selección de pizzas, etc. Dependiendo del día de la semana, tienen ofertas. Por ejemplo, el miércoles es comprar una hamburguesa y obtener una bebida gratis.Probé la hamburguesa de Oozy Goozy en XL, que es 2 patés de hamburguesa muy sabrosos con una rebanada de mozarella frita en la parte superior. Fue muy abundante, así como sabroso. Las patatas fritas eran buenas, la ensalada era la típica ensalada de hamburguesa.Volveremos otra vez, ya que su pizza Butchers Block suena bien, así como sus diferentes pasteles y papas fritas. En cuanto al precio, para 4 comidas y bebidas para adultos, llegó a una fracción de 40, lo cual me pareció muy bueno.

Traveling back from holiday stopped at Monkfield Arms for lunch.Had fish and chips from the value menu and was surprised how much we got. A nice piece of fish,plenty of chips,good portion of mushy peas and a dish of tartar sauce. Will call in again when in the area.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon with my wife, we both had steak, 1 rump and 1 rib eye, with a side order of flat mushrooms topped with cheese, all of which was very nice with polite and pleasant service, Nice 1 Marsdens.

Hopelessly understaffed. Only two bar staff working and they were painfully slow. Most tables covered in dirty plates and glasses. In the end I got fed up of waiting and left. Definitely won't bother again.

Visited in the summer holidays, no reservation required. The place has been refurbished since last visit and looks a bit brighter. There is an extensive menu. I opted for fish and chips but when it arrived the fish was really dry, so clearly over cooked. It was edible but not very enjoyable. Families are made welcome so if you want to guarantee a peaceful meal, don’t come here. A number of children were running about unsupervised and screaming.

This was the first visit to this pub. Very clean and tidy, happy staff with a good choice of the usual “grill fayre” ranging from burgers to pies to steaks.At first we had to move thanks to a horrendously high pitched screaming child where the child just would not stop. That aside, it took some time for the meals to arrive but when they did the burgers we had very tasty and filling. Served with chips. It would have been nice with some peas but the meals were good value and filled a gap.

Booked a table for 13.00, went to order food, to be told abruptly we must be eaten and moved from the table by 2.30. There was a queue of people waiting to order and only one person serving, another employee jumped into help and was more bothered about listening to us and our order. Food took a while to come and it was around 13.50 by the time the food came, served by a young girl who could barely look at us or say two words to us. The medium rare steak came well-done. The so called hen house was 2 small bits of chicken, a handful of chips and bowl of Mac and cheese that took up most of the plate and was a few bits of macaroni with a large blob of melted cheese on top. As for the Yorkie stack, that left much to be desired! It was what we thought was 3 sausages poked into mash potato on top of a Yorkie pud... The sausages were cut in half so you actually got a measley 1 and a half sausages not once did anyone come and ask how our meal was and when the waitress came to take the plates she didn't even ask, was everything ok? She just came and said 'are you finished?' and took the plates.I've lived in cambourne all my life and seen the pub go through changes, I have moved away now and we come to the pub to catch up and have family meals, I have never had any complaints about the monkfield arms until now... It's gone down hill, I've never seen the pub so empty for such a beautiful sunny day when the pub used to be heaving. It's a shame but it really has gone to pot down there and the main reason seems to be the staff, with zero customer service skills and combined with the food that really doesn't leave much to be desired.

Average meal. Expected more from a Marstons Pub. There were 4 of us eating there today.On the positive, there's a good gluten-free choice, which is unusual and was well received.Two of our meals were average. My wife ordered a salad which was supposed to come with couscous. It didn't and we had to ask for it. Eventually we got literally 2 spoonfuls given in a separate bowl. The salad also came without any dressing. There wasn't much variety - mainly leaf with a lack of cucumber, tomatoes or onion. And for nearly £10, utterly ridiculous. We use Marston pubs a lot at home and the difference in standard was unbelievable

Not very friendly - sort of place where the staff look at you when you walk in, and not with any hint of welcome. The floor of the patio area was filthy with tissues, cigarette butts and other litter. Bar service was very slow, with just one person serving. Other staff seemed to be around but not interested.

Dirty floor . Filthy bar top . Looked thru the kitchen window saw the “cook” sneezing in his hands NOT washing them after. Shame really as its the only pub around Cambourne Cant knock the fosters tho . Great pint. Wont go back, ever !

we booked this last minute as the place we had booked let us down, and they went out of their way to accommodate us, Thank you, made us fill welcome and with plenty of Xmas spirit, the dinner I had here was a lot better than the one I had had at the belfry xmas one. Have also eaten here at other occasions, reasonable price's and is the typical type you get from most big pub groups now days, I find its the staff that make the difference on lots occasions now, polite, helpful after all its a service based occupation and if these are not present you have failed straight away. Keep up the good work.

This is the one and only pub in Cambourne but the 9000 residents that live on the doorstep can’t call it a town pub, community pub or country pub because it seems to be trying to be all and therefore has no discernible identity. Easter cake for sale at the end of the bar, a quiz night on the go but I wasn’t sure what kind of place we were in.The tables were covered in empty glasses and a wash with spillages. The men’s toilet had a broken urinal, soaking wet floor, and the one and only hand dryer was running continuously. The whole place needed a bit of a sprucing up and it’s only 15 years old. Cambourne needs a gastro pub to give this place some competition.

Been a while since my last visit. Decided to give it another go, it's hard to avoid this place since it's the only pub in Cambourne. Took friends here for a meal. Will not be eating here again. As per usual they were having trouble with new chefs. This seems to be an ongoing problem for them and the manager mentioned that their ability to retain kitchen staff isn't good.

Visited with my parents for a light lunch and was very impressed by prices and variety of food and drink. Wasn't expecting the highest quality food and wasn't surprised by what arrived but would definitely come back. Only criticism (which holds it back from a higher rating) is that the hygiene of the premises was pretty poor. There were slug trails along the carpet next to the table as well as dog hair and a couple of really shriveled old peas.

We ate here whilst visiting family in the area. Decent food and reasonably priced. Good service too. We had a 25% off voucher for the food, so even better.

Horrible pub for anyone 18 or younger. Only ID the boys and not the girls and then insisted anyone under 18 had to leave by 10. I have been to so many pubs over the years with friends and family and never have I been made so uncomfortable and not welcome in a pub and never been forced to leave at 10 because of my age. Awful environment to be around. Landlord is rude and unfriendly. Anyone I know says how horrible this pub is and i thought I’d try and see how it is but unfortunately will not return again. Also they tried to over price my friend for a drink and because he noticed they didn’t get away with it. One word to describe it would be HORRIBLE

We came to visit family in this area and came for a family meal was so impressed overall food was lovely everybody enjoyed it and the service we received of rick was brilliant he came to our table with the receipt to double check the order was correct and came back once the food had been delivered to the table to check we had everything we needed. Don't get that up north will definitely call in again

We visited the Monkfield for a last minute family dinner. Since our last visit there has been some updates and there is now a pizza oven! We had a good meal and tried the Pizza and was excellent! Staff are always helpful and always some offers on drinks.

He vivido en Cambourne una cantidad de tiempo. Mi lugar favorito para comer es, de lejos, los brazos munkfield! Sí, la comida es rápido y excelente! Sí, las bebidas son siempre quiero en stock y sí el personal siempre dispuesto a ayudar con problemas, pero lo que realmente hace que para mí es el ambiente! Es como una gran familia feliz. Ya que me he mudado a Cambourne he estado en el pub varias veces, sólo para comer (como yo no bebo de todos modos). La comida siempre es deliciosa y servido por un personal muy amable. Mi favorito es el buttermilk bacon burger, Yum! Cuando ordene algunos postres se olvidaron de llevar la mía, pero cuando lo pregunté se disculparon y lo arreglaron enseguida. Siempre hay eventos como la noche, noche de curry de filete y de poker, etc. Excelentes precios asequibles, me encanta este pub! :)

When this pub opened it was OK but has gone massively downhill.The village has about 20% social housing and its now catering for that market.So kids running amok, dirty tables, windows, floor,bad smell throughoutThe beer is OK but the food is awful and had to send back meals twice from the last 3 visits. Wolverhapmton and Dudley breweries should be ashamed of this totally inadequate dump.

Working in Cambourne, this is the only pub in walking distance, so we only visit it because it is convenient. Usually it's ok, the food is cheap and you get what you pay for. However, on our last visit on 19th December, both the service and food has gone way below even a basic minimum that you would expect in even the cheapest of places.The bartender, a large middle-aged man, really gave the impression that he didn't want to be there and that serving customers was such a chore. There was no customer service, just sighs and tuts when deciding on drinks. We were told that the food was going to be about 45 minutes - no idea why because it certainly was not busy. It ended up being more like 1hr 15 minutes and the food was appalling. Carrots that were hard and tasteless were the 'vegetables' that accompanied my bowl of chicken and chorizo mush. The other meals were also pretty much on the same level.The waitress asked if everything was ok, we said no, not really, it was bad. She shrugged and walked off with the plates.It's a shame. This is the only pub in Cambourne (currently) and generally Marstons pubs do reach a basic level of quality (never good, but generally ok).I'd avoid this place until they put in some decent staff, both front of house and in the kitchen.
