Visited whilst in the area for business - popped in for snack lunch

Family Sunday lunch, roast beef was very overcooked and in part inedible, a waitress informed us after we had eaten that we could have requested it to be cooked to our liking, not sure about that but however you roast the wrong cheaper cut it will still be tough.

I went here with a couple of family members for a Sunday lunch (12 January). The pub was almost empty (one other table of four) when we ordered and stayed pretty quiet throughout.

We enjoyed our recent visit to The Ancient Shepherds. Interesting character pub 5 minutes from the Cambridge Ice Arena where we had been in the morning. I agree with other reviewers that the service was shaky in parts, but the well cooked interesting food was the highlight. I noticed that accommodation was available and a helpful member of staff showed me around and it looked good.

We stayed at this fantastic pub after having spent the afternoon with family in the restaurant being well looked after with delicious food and excellent, friendly service. The pub was very accommodating, giving us a table away from the other diners so our dog could stay with us. There was a good range of food which catered for all tastes and needs. It was beautifully served and was really good value. Our room for the night was in a converted block at the back of the pub. It had been renovated and decorated to a very high standard, was warm and comfortable with lots of space for us and the dog. All the people working at the pub made sure we were well looked after and everyone was so friendly. We were really happy to have found this lovely place. A perfect stop just outside Cambridge city centre. I am sure we will return. Thank you to all concerned.

We visited the Ancient Shepherd between Christmas and New Year 2019. My partner had been wanting to try out this charming-looking pub and we invited some friends to come and try it with us. We were very disappointed with out visit:

Following a good recommendation we booked a table for 6 in this pub/resturant. Outside they displayed a Les Routiers sign (I’m now wondering what that actually means and why they allow them to display it?)

The owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our room was decorated well, exceptionally clean and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The centre of Cambridge is a short Uber ride away. Would highly recommend this accommodation.

This place is unwelcoming, uncomfortable, freezing cold, has no atmosphere and the food is just horrendous. Olives and sun dried tomatoes were fizzy (essentially, off), the oil in the deep fat fryer was clearly old (they had been really busy the day before, justification apparently), the bread was stale and the steak more like roast beef. Strongly advise avoiding this place.

What a dreadful experience. The place was uncomfortably cold on arrival, so we asked if another log could be put on the log burner. This was done but made little difference; not surprising when we realised that the central heating was turned off. What type of establishment has the heating turned off in December?!! And no wonder the waitress was wearing an Aran sweater! They did turn on the heating when we asked but we should not have had to ask.

We were dissapointed with the portion size and the price we paid for it I was still hungry after this main because it was just a tinsy bit of fish, 2 prawns and 2 bits of potato...the dish was not substantial.

A pub with new rooms to the back and side of the car park. Very clean and dog friendly. Great food too.

Popped in 4th Nov on offchance of sunday lunch.....not booked but squeezed us in ....fab roast beef....nice staff would thoroughly recommend

We ate there on Saturday, the staff and landlord as always very accommodating. Food was delicious presentable hot and yummy We will be back there very soon

With response to the previous comment by Charles W I can confirm his comment was completely unfounded. The landlord was more than welcoming, simply declined to serve a drink 10 minutes before closing time having called last orders. Said customer also came in after 10, when food wasn’t being served anyway so I find in difficult to see how you could have had a hit and miss meal? This is a wonderful pub for locals and new comers alike. Too all looking to come to this pub, please do not be put off by nasty and untrue comments. A wonderful pub all should try!

Best roast I have had in a long time. All 7 meals arrived promptly and together. Would definitely recommend.

You never know when the pub/restaurant is open and the landlord and staff close whenever they feel like it. Such a lovely place that definitely needs a landlord to make it so much more of a welcoming experience. The food, like everything else, is so hit and miss. We had a very mediocre meal with poor service.

After almost running out of battery in our car, the landlord allowed us to charge for free all day whilst we met up with friends in Cambridge. We arrived around lunchtime so we had lunch too and the food was of a great standard. 2 charge ports available and fast charge! All staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Having decided to go away for the night we found this place which had good reviews on the food but very little in the way of what the accommodation was like.

I have to congratulate The Ancient Shepherds on the great meal I had last night while attending the local Cricket Clubs annual bash. There were 35 of us and the food was super, fantastic quality considering the number of us and everything was served hot. Not a single complaint from anyone, just high praise, well done.

The man who served me Stuart has no manners, told my wife to shut up after the kids were running around. Food was not edible, came very cold!!! AVOID We stayed in the the beds just outside and the noise from the pub horrendous!!! AVOID

What a quaint little venue and lovely lunch - with one major exception! While the rest of the meal was delicious and tasty the main element - the roast beef - was tough, dry and barely edible. So disappointing!!

Would recommend. Excellent staff, accommodation, food & drinks. Will be back on my next business trip.

Visited Saturday night and was delighted to find a great festival in full flow, with a great Blues band playing later in the evening. Especially enjoyed the Tapas food to go with the many beers on offer. Great atmosphere!

We were a family group of four adults for dinner at 700pm on an early September Tuesday. There were few other customers.We had an excellent meal served by a friendly Lithuanian. The starters were particularly good - smoked duck, smoked salmon and prawn cocktail, crab cake, whitebait, etc. In fact two of those would make a meal for many people. In total, we had six starters, two mains, including an 8oz rib eye steak (£17.95), Including one gin the driver's only alcohol), two bottles of wine (£26 and £27) and two double espressos but no desserts. our total bill, before tip, was £140.10. I was impressed.

We stayed as a couple for one night in the newly built rooms which are separate to the main building. The rooms are bright, modern and fully equipped.

Having visited the Ancient Shepherds a few times recently we decided to come for Sunday lunch and sit outside as the weather was beautiful.

We visited on a Tuesday evening and were the only table for dinner. There was no warm welcome from the man behind the bar. I ordered a gin and tonic that came with one cube of ice and no lemon- when a bar has a good variety of gins you would assume that they knew how to serve them! We were told that most of the specials were sold out and that the beer my husband wanted had just finished. The Camembert we ordered for starters was warm but not runny enough to dip our bread into. Two of the party had fish and chips which was presented cold, translucent and jelly like in the middle with batter that was thick and stodgy. When the server was found to discuss this with I was told that they didn’t agree but that they would cook our plates again to “avoid argument”. When this was presented to us one portion was raw and cold again and sent back with scant apology from the young man now serving behind the bar ( we had to interrupt him from eating his nachos and he had to remove his headphones first). The table was not cleared , we were not asked at any point if we wanted more drinks or pudding and we had to search for a surly staff member to ask for our bill. We live in Fen Ditton and had heard good reviews from fellow villagers. We will not be back!

We visited this pub during the afternoon (5pm) with our two children (4 & 10).

Popped in for a quick bite to eat on a Friday night and food was excellent. Front of house chap was superb and very welcoming. We both went for beer-battered fish and chips and although there is some good competition in Cambridge pubs this was the best i had tasted.

8 of us gathered here for a reunion and had a wonderful meal - service and food excellent despite there being a very large group sharing the dining room. Would definitely recommend and return soon.

As a local pub we have often eaten here in the past. 18 months ago we had a very bad meal so decided to give this place a miss until we heard that it was very much improved. Last night we gave it ago again with two friends. Wow! There is now a good atmosphere, the staff are very pleasant and attentive.

Called in on the off chance for a table for four...nothing seemed too much trouble from there on ...checked out the specials board absolutely loved the hake...great cooking , attentive staff and great ambience..keep up the good work

Took a chance on this place for Sunday lunch as wasn't sure would have any space. Met daughter and partner there. Lovely place, friendly waiting staff. Lunch was extremely good and plenty of it. Very impressed and planning to go again. Parking out back and also kerb side, quirky inside. Really enjoyed our visit.

We visited The Ancient Shepherds for Sunday dinner today and were blown away by the quality of the food. Every part of our meal was cooked to perfection from the meat to the veg, Yorkshire pudding and cracking. Such a hidden treasure. We were seriously impressed and will be recommending it to our friends!

Superb pub, fantastic haddock and chips. Light, crispy batter, great service, lovely rural atmosphere, will definitely go back . Well done !!

Great family birthday lunch for 12, food was good and it all turned up together. Really attentive barman who was so helpful with helping me with the birthday cake etc. Will go again!

The food was really tasty and well presented. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Generous portions and we had Sunday roast which was cooked beautifully. The desserts were also yummy.

Myself and three friends had a marvellous meal here last night. It has vastly improved, could not fault the food at all, had a lovely Rump of Lamb, cooked to perfection. Mario is a helpful and friendly host and Stuart (the governor) is to be congratulated on his perseverance, hopefully the villagers will support his efforts. As a villager, If the quality and service is consistent it will be a great place to frequent often.

We have started to go to this pub regularly for two reasons. One is that the food is really great. We have had family lunches here and quiet, grown-up dinners. The food has always been excellent. The menu is really varied, it is served quickly and the food is really delicious. The staff are charming and helpful. The second reason we go there is that it is dog and child friendly which is great when you have walked from Cambridge to Fen Ditton across the meadows. I highly recommend it.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat and stayed for the quiz. Service much improved with staff excellent. Nice burger and curry, and the special edition Estrella was superb. Lucky to have this as a local

Con un'amica scegliamo questo pub situato in un villaggio poco distante da Cambridge. Avevamo voglia di un'autentica cena inglese, fuori da giri turistici. Appena arrivati troviamo un'atmosfera molto bella, intima accogliente. Le tavole erano apparecchiate con tovaglie in fiandra che nei pub inglesi non si vedono mai. L'oste ci spiega che per quella sera é stata organizzata una "set dinner", per cui sostanzialmente era una cena di alto livello a prezzo fisso di 30 sterline. Diamo un'occhiata al menu, molto interessante, e accettiamo. L'oste ci informa che in cucina c'é uno chef stellato. Noi non vediamo l'ora di mangiare e provare le sue pietanze! Ci chiede di avere pazienza perché il locale é pieno e ci fa sedere in una stanza vuota, davanti ai bagni, senza tovaglie, coi tavoli sporchi al punto di non poterci poggiare nemmeno le braccia sopra. Passano i primi 20 minuti e cominciamo a sollecitare di poter almeno cominciare ad ordinare, ma padre e figlio (che ci sembrano essere l'unico personale per l'intero ristorante) ci dicono di aspettare. Dopo 30 minuti chiediamo almeno da bere, anche una semplice tap water e una birra. Arrivano dopo ulteriori 20 minuti. A un'ora da quando ci siamo sedute nessuno é venuto ancora né a prendere le ordinazioni, né ad apperecchiate la tavola né a pulire almeno i tavoli! Chiediamo di poter essere servite ma niente, i due osti si mostrano molto insofferenti. La sala é fredda cosí ci spostiamo vicino al termosifone. Dopo un'ora e mezza, il troppo é troppo. Decidiamo di andarcene senza mangiare. Vado al bar e chiedo di pagare, mi viene fatto uno scontrino di 10 sterline. Chiedo se un bicchiere d'acqua e una birra costano 10 sterline. Mi dice che si é sbagliato. Quindi mi emette un nuovo scontrino di 8 euro. Questa volta leggo il dettaglio: 3 sterline l'acqua e 5 sterline la birra. Allora chiedo nuovamente se la tap water da loro costa tre sterline e mi dice che credeva avessi preso una bottiglia. Quindi si era sbagliato di nuovo. E mi fa pagare 5 sterline. Due persone da sole non possono gestire un intero locale per una cena in stile ristorante. Una cena preparata da uno chef stellato (ma era poi vero che in cucina c'era uno chef stellato?) non puó essere servita a tempi biblici su tavoli sporchi davanti ai bagni. Una cena preparata da uno chef stellato é un "esperienza" per il cliente e non un' "esperimento" per due dilettanti allo sbaraglio. Inoltre uno chef stellato controlla anche cosa avviene in sala. Mai , mai piú all'Ancient Sheperd! Un posto dove ci hanno fatto sentire indesiderate e irrilevanti. Mai piú.

Went for Sunday lunch here in mid-March when my mother was visiting. We booked ahead but found when we arrived that we were seated at a very small table which was kind of in the way of everybody walking through the room. One side of the table also had no option but to watch whatever was on tv at the back of the room - not sure about other people, but The Simpsons with no sound did nothing to particularly enhance my meal. But my bigger problems were a) the service and b) the food. It took over an hour and a half from us arriving (at 2pm) to us receiving our food. The first half an hour of that was waiting to have our order taken. Our drinks order also did not show up until we reminded our waiter that he'd taken it about 20 mins previously. We were sitting near a large family of about 8-10 who were there for a birthday, and I think they were prioritised over us - but even so it just felt like the place was hugely understaffed given the waiting times.

We were visiting friends in the area and decided to pop in for a light lunch and a drink. The barman was very helpful, bar snacks were delightful, including the BBQ chicken and dice potatoes. Lovely surroundings. Would certainly visit again.

Gisteravond hier gegeten, mooi gebouw en gezellige pub. Honden mogen meer. De pub heeft een eigen parkeerterrein. We hadden heerlijke biertjes, en goed eten, de pie en fish en chips. Eten goed te betalen alleen wijn heel duur

Met with friends and family for lunch. 25 of us in total. It was my first visit and was welcomed by a lovely village pub with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Stuart, the manager was incredibly helpful and had set us up in a separate room which was perfect for the group.

I cannot comment on the service, food, drink, staff or atmosphere. I am a powerchair user (Electric Wheelchair - Invacare TDX2 for those interested) and this pub is simply inaccessible. There are steps in and I understand there are steps within the pub. I also understand there are no accessible toilets.

we had arranged a family get together at Fen Ditton a meal at the Ancient Shepherds...we come from all different parts of the south east so it is quite a journey.... I had checked before with ? landlord that it was accessible for wheel chairs...plus it does in fact state on its website that this is the case. BUT this is not actually true......! Accessible means someone who is using a wheelchair (any kind) has easy access.. this was not our experience. Thus 2 of our party were unable to join us which was upsetting and disappointing to them and to us. .It was by then (Sunday afternoon) too late to book somewhere else as we tried to do.... having come so far the rest of us stayed and had a meal but what should have been a happy occasion was marred because of a wrong definition of "accessibility"

Haven't been to the Ancient Shepherds for ages, so we thought we would give it a try for Sunday lunch -- we sampled a fair bit of the menu as one of our party has recently declared as a vegetarian, and so had the nut roast, I had traditional roast beef, my wife had the lemon sole special and 'the boys' completed the order with a pair of burgers. We also had a couple of starters -- my stilton and broccoli soup was excellent. The food was good, my roast beef was excellently cooked, the Yorkshire pudding was a little overdone, but still tasted nice, and there was a mountain of side veg. The nut roast was great, the burgers disappeared at speed and the sole was excellent. The children all had dessert and declared them excellent too. The only slight issue was a long wait for the mains and desserts, but that didn't really spoil what was an excellent Sunday roast. Musn't leave it so long before eating at the Shepherds again.

Visited here on Sunday 10th February on the way back from Cambridge for a family lunch. We all had a mains and dessert. The mains roast meat was without doubt, probably the most plentiful and tastiest beef we have ever had compared to other pubs we have been to, not a shred of gristle or fat. The children loved theirs also. The young waiter was welcoming and polite. If there was a tiny gripe, it would be that the gravy was more a very thin 'jus' than a gravy, which tended to make the roast a bit dry. We asked for extra 'gravy' which they gave us in a very tiny creamer jug....not really enough to go round for 5 plates. Nevertheless, the quality of the mains and dessert was of a very high standard and Mario and the waiters did an excellent job.

Haven't been here for a while but remember it being winter & the fire was roaring, food was great & i didn't want to move. Last visit not on drop down.

Lovely traditional styled pub in the village. Obviously very popular and food we ordered, Sunday lunch plus burger was lovely. Beuatifully presented and cooked well. Puddings, too, were very tasty.

Been to the Ancient Shepherds a few times now. Nice food, great service and good beer. It really is a locals' pub. Somewhere to cherish and support

Had a nice lunch but there was only one member of staff who seemed to do everything and insisted to take people's order at the tables. Food was good but had to wait a very long time for it.

Popped in today for a quick pint and sandwich, pub looked great, full of Christmas spirit. Good beer selection from a freehouse, bar man was very attentive and very nice sandwich lunch was provided. I will be back! Keep up the good work :-)

We booked as a good place to have a family meet up and walk our 2 dogs before lunch. Not been before. What a great place! They were so welcoming to our 2 well behaved dogs giving them chews and water. They were just as friendly and welcoming to us. Great food. Highly recommend. Thanks guys

We visited for lunch on Tuesday this week. We parked in the road outside the pub at 1.15 and it appeared to be closed. The left side door had a piece of paper stuck to it with an arrow pointing to the right asking you to 'Please use this door'. However, we found the right hand door to be locked. Looking through the windows nobody could be seen but the lights were on so we walked around the back and there was an open door. We walked in and shouted 'Hello', but there was no response. We eventually found the kitchen and knocked on the door. It opened to reveal three members of staff, one of whom came out and confirmed that the pub was indeed open. He showed us to a table and gave us menus then took our orders. There was a very long delay but when the food eventually came it was very nice. Fortunately, we were not in a hurry!

Food was excellent and owner gave us a complimentary Christmas taster dessert to try. Problem that they do not take Gourmet Club / Hi Life through The Times. Not the new owners fault, tried to cancel with them. Very gracious in still giving us a discount.

Thus place has a good reputation.i loved it years ago with leather couches by a real fire place . Good was exceotional.

Two friends and I came in last Saturday for what we hoped would be a pleasant pub lunch. On our first attempt at ordering, 10 minutes after we had been seated and given the menus to peruse, we were informed we would not be able to order fish and chips as they had run out of fish. After choosing different options, we were then informed that also the ham egg and chips and the steak were not available either; this meant that over half the standard menu was unorderable.

We had a marvelous lunch here, having walked to Fen Ditton from Cambridge, along the river. We arrived after the time lunch-service was scheduled to stop, but the very friendly staff checked with the kitchen which was more than happy to serve us. The food was excellent – we had the mussels, the pan-fried partridge, the seafood linguine, the haloumi burger and the beef burger. All were excellent, generously proportioned and very reasonably priced. The staff, both on the floor and in the kitchen were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was great. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, from start to finish, and the combination of the riverside walk and lunch at the Ancient Shepherds is highly recommended.

We walked and ate with Kirk2014 - so would echo all that's said there. The walk to Fen Ditton is less celebrated than the route across Granchester Meadows, but it's a perfect stroll for a sunny afternoon - about an hour of easy river-side walking each way from the city centre. The Ancient Shepherds is excellent - comfortable, good food and interesting beers on tap. We were late for the lunch sitting - but the staff went out their way to fit us in.

Staff utterly disorganised and with surly attitudes. Left our table and several others completely unattended (place was barely half full) meaning we are unable to order food for nearly an hour. Offered no acknowledgement or apologies for this inexplicable wait, just further gruffness. When our food finally came some of it was poorly cooked and contained meagre portions. Very poor experience.

Came here with 3 friends for lunch. We had the Camembert to start which was very nice; the bread was also lovely & fresh.

The food took over an hour because the pub had booked three large groups to arrive all at once. Requests for updates on the food were ignored, and we had to ask repeatedly for gravy. Gluten free puddings were available which is good, but the main meal was pretty bad. Good roast meat but the veg was cold and hard. Not impressed with the attitude of the staff who didn’t seem concerned that there was a big delay, we only received a half-hearted apology in passing.

We visited in 2016 and the meal was acceptable. They have now updated their menu and the standard has gone up by leaps and bounds. A much more interesting menu and all items were well cooked. Service was good (helped by the fact that one of us was a regular) and we would certainly go again.

We arrived for a Sunday Lunch. I selected the Roast Pork which was great. Masses of meat and a portion of crackling with 5 veg. The wooden seating needs to be more comfortable (look for the padded seats) and the decor requires some improvement. Excellenty friendly service at a reasonable price.

On the way through we wanted to stop off at the Ancient for a Sunday Roast. We arrived and 1420 and were told to order immediately as the kitchen was closing due to an event (even though the sign outside said roast all day!). We ordered our roasts, which came luke warm (I suspect it was the final batch). No cheer from staff, cold room, and sticky tables.

We booked and visited for Lunch on Sunday. The fish was beautifully cooked, in a bag and very tasty. The spiced chicken skewers were still juicy, warmly spiced without overpowering. The Sunday roast Beef was also superb with all the usual trimmings. The service wasn't the quickest but with the food this tasty, I can easily wait the extra few minutes. The service charge was added to the final bill, personally I prefer to tip but it wasn't an inappropriate amount. We had a lovely window seat with a flowering window box outside, the traffic isn't bad so an open window was nice on a hot day. I'm happy to recommend this pub for good, honest home cooked tasty food.

Had a lovely lunch today. We all had burgers which were very tasty. The atmosphere and the service was great. The stand out thing that has made me write this review is on clearing our plates our server, a really lovely man , overheard me say ‘ if there was cheese & biscuits I’d def have some’. He went away and came back shortly afterwards and said we can do that for you. He then returned with a perfect cheeseboard! I call that great service above and beyond and will definitely return. Thank you.

We called here a few years ago in similar circumstances, so knew of it's location which is a little off the A14. Not disappointed as our light lunch of whitebait was delicious. No alcohol because of driving, but service and quality of food very good. A lovely old building. We shall call here again hopefully next time we are passing.

We attended a small group celebratory lunch. The atmosphere was very convivial but the food was very average with a limited menu. Perhaps the chef had the day off?

Continuamos a visitar nuestro nuevo local y no decepcionó todavía. Tenía una gran comida después de la Fen Ditton 5 milla - sándwiches de cerdo y patatas fritas sacó una ganga. Viernes por la noche y para llevar pescado chip es una buena idea y qué mejor que una buena pinta de cerveza lager en seco mientras esperas saltando.

La Antigua Pastores es mi local y es muy agradable ver este pequeño pub adquiriendo popularidad de nuevo después de unos años en la selva!

Se trasladó a la calle hace 3 meses y seguimos viniendo. La cadera es fantástico, tan bueno como los cortes más caros, especialmente con el uso de mantequilla de coñac y blanco - una ganga en la noche jueves. bistec Currys suplente jueves con el cuestionario también es genial, me encanta la versión de cerdo desmenuzado. Las costillas, tartas, hamburguesas, asado los domingos fabuloso y sandwiches comida enorme y excelente relación calidad-precio. Selección de cerveza super, especialmente el seco y nos montamos adnams lager buen vino y selección gin. Servicio amable. Y para terminar dulces gratis retro

First visit to this traditional pub. The gammon, 2 eggs & chips was very tasty which was washed down with a pint of the local cider. Prompt friendly service. If you enjoy pub grub well worth a visit.

Had a really nice Sunday lunch here, roast dinner was delicious- crispy potatoes and tender lamb. Big portions of vegetables and Yorkshire pudding.

The Ancient Shepherd's in Fen Ditton started life as three cottages, with the first being converted into a hostelry in the 17th century with the last in the 1960's. The menu is good British fayre and the Gammon steak I had was very well cooked...

Just moved into the street and popped in for Friday night food as house still in boxes. Lovely interior and found a great spot by the fire on a cold night. Beer on tap very good - Dry Hopped Lager excellent and food brought out...

Popped in here a couple of times over christmas/ new year to have a catch up with friends. The pub has been done up very nicely and the food we had was delicious. Drinks were a fair price and the atmosphere was nice. Miss the...

Seriously impressed l andlord friendly and Irish is on top of everything - service is first rate. We had whitebait and Chicken Peri Peri Burger, both good.

Pasó por los pastores para una comida rápida para 2, ya que no me apetecía cocinar antes de ir de vacaciones a la mañana siguiente. Gran ambiente de un personal atento y de gestión. La comida es fabulosa, mi esposa es gluten y tenía la novia lasaña y en sus palabras posiblemente la mejor lasaña que ella había probado. Ronan (pub) ha encargado dicho que quiere satisfacer a todos y se ha hecho justicia a todos aquellos que sufren con gluten. Incluso una cerveza sin gluten. Our second visit to this gastro pub. We were drawn by the street food vans that are making an appearance during October. Our friends got food from the van whilst we opted for food from the pub. Food was a little out of sink but we expected that. My husband had the burger which was cooked just right. I had the pie of the day, in this case Steak and Guinness, it was lovely and tasty. I was impressed that the veg still had some crunch as I hate it over cooked.

Terminamos en el Shepherds Antigua después de ser rechazado en el arado bajando la calle a pesar de haber reservado una mesa 3 días antes para el cumpleaños de mi madre. Que estaban muy ocupados debido tiempo también bien aparentemente y tiempo de espera sería 1. 5 horas. No, gracias!

A fabulous Sunday lunch. Great choice of roasts. Nut roast & Roast Beef delicious and accompanying vegetables & Yorkshire pudding just perfect. Good service too.Thanks

Me and my sister came here on a Sunday for a roast. We hadn't booked so were lucky to of gotten a table. We were seated quickly by a young girl who was friendly enough. We decided to order a starter (Big mistake)The starter was baked Camembert which in itself wasn't bad (quite an easy dish to make) but we weren't given any side plates to eat this with which was usual as the bread was very crusty and crumbly. We finished out starter and half an hour passed before anyone came and cleared this away - very un-attentive and felt a bit forgotten.It was impossible to get the attention of a staff member as there were only 2 serving in the whole restaurant and they were always running back and forth!After 30 minutes the Camembert was taken and then began the next long wait. It was at least another 30 minutes wait from this point for our roast to arrive. This wouldn't of been a problem if the food was of a high standard but what came out was equivalent to a school dinner style meal. Wafer thin beef with 3 soft potatoes, a VERY oily yorkshire pudding that tasted of just that! (myself or my sister didn't touch it) and a selection of hard veg. There was no extras such as stuffing or cauliflower cheese etc (pretty standard with a roast)The staff did say sorry about the wait when we went to pay which we were glad off however the friendly staff didn't make up for the long wait or the overpriced food. Sadly would not return.
