We got the fish and chips—pretty good, though not the best item I’ve had from the menu. The place always has a great summer vibe, which I really enjoy. I do wish the tables had been cleaned before we sat down but other than that always a great trip down!

A lovely location and the drinks were fine....but it is woefully understaffed and the staff hardly trained. I don't wish to criticise them at all as young and friendly, but i hope they receive plenty of training as just seem to be thrown in at the deep end. Beers by the water was pleasant, but just wanting a light snack by the water - no chance. Meals were £15+....we just fancied a sandwich but none on offer. Heard comments back from other customers saying "it's carnage at the bar". Not great for a Wednesday lunchtime. Ended up ordering a £4.95 portion of chips, of which about 20 chips was all that came. So in all, a lovely pub for a beer beside the water, but I wouldn't chance the full menu and it seemed just very young inexperienced staff running it. 2nd time here, last was 5 years ago and the same scenario then. Seems a missed opportunity to make it a fantastic destination

I had a fantastic lunch at The Plough in Fen Ditton, Cambridge, and it’s easily one of the best midpriced meals I’ve enjoyed in the area! Nestled by the River Cam with a charming garden and stylish interior, this gastropub offers a warm, welcoming vibe perfect for a relaxed dining experience. The lunch set menu (two courses for around £20) was an absolute steal for the quality. I started with the crispy squid, which was perfectly tender with a zesty saffron aioli that added a delightful kick. For the main, I went with the cod and chips—flaky, fresh fish in a crisp batter, served with chunky chips and a vibrant tartare sauce. Every bite was spot-on, and the portion was generous without being overwhelming. My friend raved about their burger, praising the juicy patty and flavorful brioche bun. The service was a highlight—our waiter was attentive, friendly, and quick to offer recommendations, making us feel right at home. The pacing was leisurely but not slow, ideal for a laid-back meal. The drinks menu impressed too, with a great selection of local ales and reasonably priced wines (a glass of Merlot was about £7). The only slight hiccup was a brief wait for the bill, but the staff’s charm more than made up for it. At roughly £25 per person including drinks, this meal was incredible value for such high-quality food and ambiance. The Plough nails the balance of upscale pub fare and affordability, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit

The Chef Elise Brown cooks great meals and I come in regularly and she’s always so accommodating and her food is always of a high standard, she’s polite and always smiles whenever me and my daughter go in for food😇

i went to the plough at 1 ish, quite busy but controlled team made the experience worth it. amazing food, great service and the chefs are impeccable. always bubbly even when packed with orders. i saw one chef go above her role by helping and coaching the team. i think her names elisa? anyways she was brilliant, quite funny too😁

Well, this has disappointed me no end. Went last year & 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review apart from the toilets. Toilets are worse, disgusting, I don’t know when the last person checked them when I went in, messy, rubbish lying in the cubicle, toilet seat wonky in 1 cubicle, water drenched sink area. They said in answer to my last review that they would be “refreshed” in the New Year. No way they’ve been touched, let alone a fresh coat of paint. Main course Pea & Asparagus Risotto was delicious. However, the portions have reduced & the prices have gone up, so, for the price of £18.50 it was expensive. I get that costs have gone up, but to reduce portion sizes as well as increase the price is a double kick in the teeth! IMO. I normally don’t have room for dessert, but obviously this visit I did, as we also waited over half an hour (40 mins) for the mains to arrive! We’ve been before when it’s been as busy if not busier & had quicker & better service. Last visit we had a designated waiting staff. This visit we were served by 4 different people. I’ve been a waitress in a busy Edinburgh restaurant so know, how to give good service. So, waiting over half an hour for mains & waiting staff having to be asked to check, then come back & say we were 5th in the priority list, & couldn’t give a time, but approximately another 10-15 mins is poor. It felt like they actually didn’t care. Then had to ask for more drinks too, as she just walked away, not noticing empty glasses, no one was checking the table to preempt this. The desserts came in good time, however, the Toffee Brûlée was supposed to have Raspberries & Strawberries, No Raspberries & the 1 strawberry halved was as you can see by the photo bruised & old. I don’t class 1 strawberry halved as strawberries. Server again never gave a reason for no Raspberries, obviously don’t care or want to draw attention to the poor quality of the strawberry that was served. I asked on the booking if at all possible Not to be sat next to children. Not only children but a crying baby. (Bad table planning, put all children/babies next to each other) There were other tables without children dotted about the restaurant. Harder to hear conversations at the table. I always tip, not this visit. All in all, a very disappointing visit. Will not be booking again.

Came today for lunch with wife and friends. Very scenic, and great food too. I had the cod and chips, which went down a treat. After food, we went and sat by the river for a drink which was lovely as it was nice and warm, a lovely poured Guinness. Thanks to our servers, Jai and Lara. Both very friendly and willing to help out, answered our questions about the menus. My wife is also gluten free which was handled very well by one of the young ladies. We will be back as the desserts sounded delicious but too full up to try. Thanks everyone

The setting and drinks were fabulous but the food portion sizes were poor. The Risotto was more of a side salad sized portion and the halloumi burger came with one small piece of lettuce, one small slice of tomato and two small pickles let alone the halloumi itself being too small for the bun meaning about 1/4 of the burger was just bread anyway. The fish and chips was fine, but the slice of cod was very thin.

Amazing place by the river in Fen Ditto to have food, have s business meeting, or just have a drink alone or with friends.

Super yummy food and real good service. Make sure to try a cocktail or two.

We really enjoy coming to this spot—it’s become one of our favorite places to relax and unwind. One of the best things about it is the outdoor seating area, which offers a beautiful view of the water. Sitting outside and watching the boats go by is incredibly peaceful and adds a charming touch to the whole experience. Whether it’s a sunny afternoon or a calm evening, the setting feels just right. Another thing we love is how family-friendly the area is. There’s a large open field nearby where kids can run around and play freely, which is such a bonus when you’re out with little ones. It gives them space to be active and have fun while the adults can sit back and enjoy a drink, some snacks, and good conversation. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between lively and laid-back. It’s ideal for casual gatherings, a quick aperitivo with friends, or even a low-key date night. The staff is always friendly, and the service is consistently good. Overall, it’s a place that offers something for everyone—great views, open space, and a welcoming vibe. We always look forward to coming back!

Nice pub by the river, food was ok but quite expensive just for a main meal, and even booking a table (on a Sunday) we waited an hour for food to arrive. Also felt the upkeep of the place is being let slide slightly.

If you plan to have a Sunday roast, you are ok. If you are vegetarian I strongly recommend you go somewhere else. Portions are the size of a starter and not particularly good.

Came in for drinks, chloe was our bartender who made excellent cocktails! We had the negroni tropicale and the grapefruit spritz

The vibe and the atmosphere are lovely and staff are friendly which made it a nice experience overall. However, I had a main course risotto with a side of vegetable and I am actually still very hungry. The portion was more of a starter and for £18.50 very disappointing. I did ask for a replacement of the vegan cheese which I never had. It tasted ok. Nothing more, nothing less - but left a bitter taste as spending this amount of money and still feeling hungry is not what I would expect from a night out.

Food is honestly mediocre. Most is either tinned or frozen, and will be served stone cold. The vibe is either snobby or just dead music is quiet. Not worth the price point at all. Pork will be 80% squidgy fat.cold deserts that state they are served “hot” as well as a cold roast dinner and gravy. Arguably you are only paying for the fact you’re next to the River Cam. (Which reeks) don’t bother

Lunch on a wet Thursday…… what a discovery, lovely pub, lovely atmosphere. Squid followed by the pork belly both melt in your mouth. The homemade gravy should be marketed just silky smooth and warming. Served by Chloe who was so attentive without being annoying. Will visit again and again

Lovely big garden and a nice vibe. But the food is definitely overpriced - an absolute joke charging 5£ for a “garden salad” consisting of some un-seasoned leaves and cabbage.

Third time we visited. Second time we got turned away after being seated for not having a reservation. This time for our anniversary we had a table reserved, however the service was very slow. We waited an hour and a half to get our appetizers. Main dish after wasnt too much of a wait. But then for desert we had to wait a long time to get attention to get the menu, then we had were waiting a again a long time to try to order, but changed our minds and decided to leave because we didn't want to stay even longer waiting for our deserts to come. All this after that you have told us that you couldn't seat us the second time we visited, as you wouldn't be able to give us high quality service without a booking. Instead you could have accommodated us after seating by offering us a limited menu that would be easy for your staff the handle. Very disappointed in your service and told all our friends about it. We enjoyed the food and the view was nice, but if we're going to spend a significant amount of money we expect decent service.

The Plough in Fen Ditton is a lovely pub with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. The menu features delicious, locally sourced British dishes, perfect for any occasion. A lovely warm welcome and shown to a table.Lovely decor and extensive menu we opted for the three course lunch menu.I had butternut squash soup followed by fishcakes and salad and opted for a coffee and a small Sicilian tart for dessert.Well priced food beautifully presented and high standard.Service very good and we were not rushed at all will return

The food was delicious. We ordered the heritage tomatoes salad with goats cheese for me and steak for my friend. For dessert we enjoyed a very good cappuccino with a small pudding. Staff friendly and professional.

Staff were nice and welcoming. The Venue is very nice. It was nice and elegant, and was lovely and warm given it was a cold night. Service throughout our meal was very good they checked our meals were ok. We had each ordered a steak and had them cooked differently which they did very well. The sides for the meals were very nice. Though we felt the mushroom portion could have been a bit bigger, but they were very nice. Dessert and coffees were lovely. We also benefited from having a voucher code which gave 50% off mains, which i hadn't realised when I booked, so it was an excellent saving. We would have no hesitation in returning and would recommend them to friends and family.

Absolutely amazing food. Worth the money but service was appalling.

Proof that just because your menu and prices are “gastropub” grade doesn’t mean the food will be. We were very disappointed. My linguine was bland with huge hunks of chilli. My wife’s fish was seemingly murdered, then dug up and burned. We sent back the burnt/wilted/cold vegetables, which should never have left the kitchen.

I Had the lamb rump and she had the chicken burger, both lovely meals finished with the chocolate bomb dessert. Top stuff

Smart but traditional pub. Wide selection of foods. Interior is predominantly dining with table service. But there’s also outside options. All next to the river cam. Very enjoyable.

AVOID THE BURGER. In the UK, burgers can not be served with pink inside and have to be fully cooked. Unfortunately, 2 of 3 burgers received by our party were far over cooked while probably trying to keep within this rule. Burger was hard on the outside and solid internally. May have also been the quality of the burger meat. Oddly 1 burger was totally fine.

Popped along to the Plough today 2/1/25, for a local business networking event #Business Buzz, nice venue plenty of parking! Coffee was lush, will return in the summer to enjoy the river view! Only £10 plus Vat to attend.

We have loved the Plough since we came here more than 6 years ago on the day we got engaged. Returned for Boxing Day lunch and we’re not disappointed - the food was exquisite and the service exceptional. Tom was fantastic - could not have been better! Definitely worth the trip to Fen Ditton!

Chloe did a great job serving us today!

My wife had the Salad with Goats Cheese. When it was serves she told the waiter that she was unhappy with the actual salad (no0t sure all the stated ingredients were present) and the amount of goats cheese was negligible. No one came back and so to not ruin the occasion she ate the salad. At the end the waiter was again told that we were disappointed with the salad. and when I paid I mentioned it to a different chap who took payment. Again no comment made. All that was required was a chat with Manger about the quality of the salad and the fact that the cheese quantity (had they run out) was not in anyway worth more than 50pence and needing correcting. If the issue was addressed we would have happily left a tip. Thankfully the waiter quickly moved over the tip input on card machine which I suppose was him recognising their failings. As it is we will not be revisiting and you have lost 4 customers. So very poor customer care that would have cost about £1 to sort was just ignored. The mini deserts we ordered were then forgotten and so our coffee was finished by time they finally arrived. They should obviously have come together. Again no apology.

Located on the banks of the river cam a short walk from the edge of town...great food and drinks, fantastic staff...big car park for those that drive, dog friendly ...what's not to like... highly recommend x
