The worst food on the planet for sure .
Cold food and really expensive for what little you receive
We were passing and thought we’d go in and I wish we hadn’t!!
Oh my god ! DO NOT STAY HERE Absolutely filthy and run down! £180 for a one night 2 room stay - if it was £80 it would be too much! It was full of cobwebs dust other people’s flaky skin. Could not see out of the bedroom windows I had to glean one to look out! Couldn’t use the kitchen as plates cutlet and glasses were horrendously stained and dirty. Bedding was old and crispy . Sofa was full of stains and dirty. The bathrooms were an embarrassment and we could and would not use the shower as it had hairs and grime and rust in it. The toilet seat slipped of the toilet and at the bottom was covered in urine . The heating didn’t work and was given a 70’s blow heater between 2 bedrooms ! If my granddaughter had not been ill I would have packed and left but we had no choice but to stay . The whole room was disgraceful and in need of a complete overhaul and bloody good clean. Let’s just say we certainly didn’t bother eating in the restaurant and had to buy a sandwich from the nearby shop . As soon as we awoke we got up and left!!!! If you like dirt then stay here but I suggest an air b n b because for the money you pay here you can get something that’s at least clean !!!RANK AND NIT WORTHY OF ANY STARS
Poor service inexperienced staff. Specials not available at 18:30 but advertised. Beef stock gravy with chicken pie, cheap Sauvignon at high price and card machine thrust across guest face to pay. To cap it all 10% discretionary service charged to bill so you have to ask for it to be removed. I live locally and only use as last resort. Hell will freeze over before I go again.
No disabled access currently - 01/05/2025. Be aware that the Holkham Estate is currently resurfacing the parking at Lady Ann Drive and this is not mentioned on the Holkham website. We were directed to park on a rough field, a long way away from the cafe and beach walkway and the field is not suitable for wheelchairs/walkers/mobility aids. We checked with the Attendants and there was no option to drop off less mobile family closer to the walkway on more stable ground so we left and went to Wells-next-the-sea Harbour instead, which was accessible.
I have eaten at Upstairs No. 1 quite a few times and the food is very good and reasonably priced.
But I have one big gripe. The restaurant acoustics mean that it is very noisy. Small children chattering (and worse) loudly; the sound is amplified. Kitchen noises; amplified; even any quiet background; music; amplified.
For me it meant I couldn’t enjoy the meal. it’s not a place to have a conversation. Maybe it’s the bare floor, I don’t know. I would imagine that anyone with a hearing aid or hearing impairment might find it uncomfortable. .
We had a meal and a great evening in the pub , there was a live singer.
The food was great as was the service can’t say what a great night we had and the staff and service was exceptional
An honest review….. and I don’t expect something for nothing however …..£36 for 2 hot drinks, a smoothie and 2 sandwiches! Overpriced for what you get and although the food was fine I’ve had better and walked away feeling underwhelmed.
Our family trip was good, but it could have been so much better.
We arrived to a warm welcome and that alone gave us hope that we were in for a real treat. Went to our room, distinctive smell of paint lingering in the room. The room was really warm but thats no fault of the hotel, we were really fortunate of the weather. Housekeeping was ok, like most, the hotel knew 3 people were coming, only 2 towels? No milk in the room? No phone in the room to call down for said towels and milk. Yes I could have walked down and asked for them but after a 2 hour journey...I just wanted a cuppa after having consumed what was an amazing dinner - the food here is amazing.
The slightest attention to detail would have got the 5/5.
My husband wrote the last review. So it’s my turn. We returned today for dinner. Again the food was amazing we had the same as we had before hunters chicken for myself, Norada burger for my husband. I would rate it higher than the five stars if I could. The staff are so helpful and are a credit to the business. We are back at the end of May. We will definitely be eating here again with you. Thanks again
We booked on the day for a family lunch, as there were 6 of us. Great menu, large portions. Friendly staff, even the landlord popped over for a chat. Dog fussed over and given treats. Pub does look tired but steeped in history.
Four of us went for a curry the food was very nice and tasty we had poppadoms and pickles which were warm and crispy and the pickles were excellent.the main courses were all very tasty and well cooked the naans were fluffy and nice all together it was very very nice and the waiters were excellent.
