The Chequers Inn in North Norfolk

Ate here twice during a long weekend in Norfolk, and couldn’t fault it. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food magnificent and the choice and quality of beers second to none.

We have visited before and enjoyed the experience so booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Very disappointed this time. Quite a few dishes unavailable and almost no choice for vegetarian. Very subdued atmosphere for Sunday evening.

Late booking as I was a bit lost, full points on everything considering the price, I will return here as much as possible

Magnificent roast pork lunch, every item of which was made with real care and tasted delicious. Gorgeous and innovative Bounty Brownie desert to follow. Food-bliss!! Wonderful atmosphere, service and good selection of very tasty Ales. Pub perfection imo 😁

To be clear I've placed 3 stars to rooms because I didn't stay in one so I have no idea. The Pub/restaurant however is a wonderful example of a real traditional British pub. Just opposite the Croft race circuit this little gem was welcoming and well ran by very experienced and friendly staff. Great food, great value and great atmosphere. I would recommend a visit.

This was our first visit here and we will definitely be going back. Our roast lunch was absolutely delicious and more than ample portions. The selection and quality of beers on offer were very good . The staff were all extremely friendly and efficient . Thank you for a lovely gastronomic experience.

My partner and I stayed at The Chequers Inn for two nights for a friend's wedding in the area. Could not begin to rate this establishment highly enough for it's rooms and food, both of which exceeded expectations in every way. Amazing breakfast too! I'd experienced a nasty accident earlier that day when I'd dropped a cup of boiling tea over my foot. When my partner asked staff for an ice block the owners jumped into action, going so far as to provide burn cream and a bandage. They frequently checked I was okay throughout the rest of our stay. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

My wife and I were given the most warm welcome at the Chequers Inn after a tiring overnight transatlantic flight from NY and a nearly four hour drive from Heathrow Airport. I cannot tell you how great the hospitality was for two exhausted travelers who were looking for a traditional Sunday pub lunch in Norfolk before arriving at our nearby AirBnB. The food was fantastic and the beer (for this expatriate Brit, at least) was delightful. Everyone in the pub greeted us like we were family. We couldn't have asked for a better welcome to the UK.

Recommend this pub while staying in the area for the Thursford Spectacular. When we visited the pub was very quiet so we had no problem obtaining a table. It was curry night but the full menu was available and also a specials board. We had basic potato and leek soup followed by scampi which was very adequate and enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and service was good and we would visit again.

Went for evening meal on curry night. But full menu was still available. Went for the curry but a bit disappointed to find that by 7pm one of the three curries was sold out. So left with one meat and one veggie choice. But that aside it was a great experience. Curries were very tasty. Staff really helpful. It still retains the feel of a proper country pub. Many pubs in the area have gone all out on ‘gastro’ and so not a place to go for a drink any more. Was there midweek in November but pretty busy. Overall had a nice feel. Would definitely add to pubs to go to when in the area

We had a good meal with good, friendly efficient service. It was curry night when we visited and the place was full, which is a good sign. One of our party had a curry, which was classified as mild, but was quite hot. It was very nice but hotter than expected. Others in the party had fish and chips or falafel burger, all of which were well cooked and presented and tasty. Deserts were very good. The ice creams and sorbets were full of flavour and the gin and lime custard tart was excellent.

Not been here for many years - mainly because not passing by - but were in village and food was being served all afternoon. Nice pint of a guest seasonal ale. Friendly service happy to ‘fine tune’ menu swapping things around to suit our taste/s. Food came in reasonable time; was hot and tasty as well as priced reasonably … not sure you can ask for more in one of few pubs in North Norfolk that has not gone all ‘gastro’ and ‘Masterchef’, thus retaining some sanity of having good ‘pub grub’. A quiet place to go for refreshments ... the locals at the bar talked in hushed tones, as did the bar tenders. The menu was small and pretty uninspiring, just a few pub classics. I tried the halloumi fries and the cheese plate. The chips were fantastic but the cheese plate comprised 3 strips of hard cheese (no variety) and a half dozen savoury biscuits with a few nuts.

We booked at table at tge Chequers Lovely looking pub from outside Bar Service was good But pint was off, end of barrel it was promptly replaced - these things happen We ordered a Burger and Lasagne Burger was OK the chips with it excellent Lasagne was dried up abd unedible - there have been other reviews about this In short a disappointing experience There are other better pubs in the area They need a new chef

From the minute we stepped inside we were made to feel very welcome. Four adults, a baby and two dogs. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food didn’t disappoint it was freshly cooked, beautiful presented and very tasty. Thank you we will be back.

Dropped in on the off chance they had a spare table, as I asked nicely (so they said) they have us a table straight away. Great pub food with very chatty bar staff. Eating there tomorrow night with the rest of the family so it was only a recce really.

Whilst staying nearby for the weekend we decided to have lunch here after having watched the ladies cup final. What a lovely traditional and welcoming pub. There’s plenty of space to park. The toilets were extremely clean and beautifully decorated. The staff were all really friendly, as were the locals, and the food really tasty. All in all, just a lovely pub for all to visit xx

We visited a few times this week as were camping down the road. On the first night we asked for the wi-fi code and were told they didn't have one as the internet was so patchy. Instead, they suggested that we try some of the different games they had. This was a massive hit with the kids (my son kept asking to go back to play battleships!) and meant we had a lovely visit. On the final night we went there for dinner and were very impressed with the service and quality of the food. Every dish was delicious. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. We will definitely visit again if staying in the area.

The Chequers is one of very few places open for takeaway around here just now, although sadly only two days a week, but the food is terrific and the service efficient and friendly. Today’s roast was really outstanding. Thank you to the management for keeping going and giving us something to look forward to.

We had not visited here before but on reading the reviews decided to give it a try and visit the priory at the same time. The food is good quality home cooking and for the price very good value. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The place could not be more covid secure and they have clearly thought about what to do to keep everyone safe and for this they should be commended. They have really put some effort into complying with the social distancing and covid measures.We had rib eye steak but without the seafood accompaniments, because of a fish allergy and the piri piri chicken which both came with chips and a homemade slaw, The rib eye did turn out to be a little rare in places for the request of a ‘medium’ but still fine.Interestingly we were seated in the gallery which is an enclosed outdoor corridor with little two person compartments each with a small gallery of local amateur artists work which was great and also a interesting opportunity for these painters to sell their work.

The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. We were able to sit with our party under a gazebo and enjoy a delicious and well-cooked meal together. It felt very safe. The outside bar has a very attractive terrace plus there are two or three shelters in the garden for eating and drinking. Good choices for vegetarians. Definitely recommend.

We were visiting Norfolk as we do annually from Derbyshire and had noticed this lovely looking pub. We booked via email and got an immediate response booking us in on a Friday night for the 6 of us under shelter outside. We were nervous about eating out as we hadn't done it much since lockdown especially with one of our party being pregnant but immediately we were made to feel extremely comfortable but also safe with excellent social distancing and PPE in place. The food was amazing, the staff friendly and efficient and it was all round the best place we could've chosen for our last meal.Thank you so much to the team for making us feel so welcome.See you next time!

During this covid pandemic all restaurants and pubs trying hard to accommodate the masses, we had booked 5 evenings plus a takeaway meal from the main menu, all was excellent, the staff were all lovely and couldn't have done more to make customers feel welcome, we were lucky and were put in the gallery and on the couple of evenings the weather was chilly were pleased to be there, there were large gazebo type awnings in the grounds and people did not seem put off to be outside. The food was well cooked and presented, hats off to all of you for doing a good job in trying times.

We all enjoyed our evening meal at the Chequers in, having a range of dishes from the menu everyone was happy. Only shame was that we were informed that the table we had booked was outdoors and the evening became rather chilly and with no outdoor heaters we all did become rather cold. However the food made up for it and we had a lovely evening! But next time must take a jacket!

We were staying cl;ose by and visited the pub twice to eat. Lovely atmosphere with roaring fire and friendly staff. We had two meals there both very enjoyable. Very enjoyable pub food.- I had the small version of fish and chips which was just enough and was great. I also had the tradional Sunday lunch which was huge and enjoyable! We would definitely call there again if in the area.

Lovely village pub, exactly how a pub should be. Roaring fire, good beers and the bar virtually full although there is an overflow area but it didnt seem to be heated. Food was very good, service was a little on the slow side but the place was busy. Prices were also good. Much better than some of the socalled pubs in the area and well worth a visit.

Stopped in for lunch. Ham, egg and chips. Was OK. No more than that. Eggs over cooked. The pub is lovely though. Service good. The food we saw going to other people looked excellent. Think I just made a poor choice. Would definitely go again.

Have eaten here previously and always had a good meal, however, on this occasion we were very disappointed with the Sunday Lunch (and a couple of other minor issues) food was overcooked and dried up.

We had dinner here the last Saturday of January. Although we were not locals, staff was very friendly and welcoming. We had the burgers with onion rings, fresh and tasty. Good selection of beers in a cozy atmosphere, with a fireplace.

We visited her after the Thursford Christmas show as it wasn’t too far away from the show and our holiday cottage. The staff were very accommodating and squeezed us in. We had to eat earlier but we were grateful that they could help out.The food was very good and the service was very efficient. We frequented this pub on several occasions during our stay in Binham and the experience truly enhanced our holiday- perfect cottage and perfect pub! The food was plentiful, tasty and of a very high quality, good traditional pub food. Service was efficient and we were always greeted in a genuinely friendly manner, happy to accommodate us with two Goldies, who enjoyed the fuss. This pub makes the village, no wonder it is so popular, boooking is advisable, well worth it!

The Chequers is not the most picturesque pub and the decor is very much cosy1980's style but what it maybe lacks in appearance it more than makes up for with the quality of the food, great service and a warm friendly atmosphere.

Visited with friends one evening which happened to be curry night. I ordered chicken korma but when it arrived it was obvious that the dish had been overheated as the cream had curdled. I called the waitress and explained that the dish was not right, she went to the kitchen and returned to say that the dish had been cooked to an authentic Indian recipe and should have looked like that! I don’t think so and was surprised that the chef hen was prepared to argue with a customer. They ask if I wanted something else so they brought me a lamb madras which was fine.

Booked a table for Sunday evening. Roasts were on the menu all day. My husband opted for roast lamb, which he said was lovely and tender, whilst I had lasagne, which was very tasty and served with garlic bread and side salad. Lovely deserts too. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We went with friends, who also appeared to enjoy their meals.

The Chequers was exceedingly busy when we called in for lunch - whether it was because it was so very busy, or this was "their standard", the service was much slower than you would normally receive these days. The food was "fair" to good BUT when it arrived at the table it was dry and looked like it had been waiting too long under heat lamps waiting to be delivered to the table. We are unlikely to make a return visit especially since a pub that allows (guests) dogs to wander around the eating area always raises concerns re the hygene generally. Shame
