The Chequers Inn in North Norfolk

Our Scooter Club meets here on Monday. The staff are very accommodating and helpful. It's a handy spot for us as it is mostly central to all our club members. We we often get a complimentary tray of thrice cooked chips, which is nice. We are looking forward to our Christmas bash there too. Other clubs also drop in for a drink and a chat.⭐️🤠👍🛵

Friendly people, great staff and amazing food. A really good choice of beers on the pumps to choose from. The lamb tagine was brilliant. Different offers on different days as well.

Had the roast lamb Sunday dinner and the food was plentiful and delicious. Staff were excellent as the service was prompt and they were attentive. Will go back

Stopped by chance driving past as it looked inviting, we where tired and hungry. We had one drink and was about to leave when Sunday dinner was brought out for the table opposite.. By their comments and the general look of the dinner we decided to stay and ordered two roast beef dinners with a side of Cauli Cheese.. The food came promptly and well presented.. OMG.. The meal was delicious vegatables aldente with the beef beautifully cooked and plentiful .. The Cauli Cheese was the best I've ever eaten.. the price was dirty cheap at £17 per meal.. This place is an absolute gem and we will definitely be returning.. One criticism they should provide a pillow & a duvet as I struggled to drive after such a filling meal.. Thank you

Very happy with my stay this week at Chequers Inn. Service is first class, food is home made and very nice would highly recommend a visit. Lovely pub too. Nice people and dog friendly too. Has a car park on site and beer garden and also table at front on bar too. Can't wait to visit again 😊

This pub really helped make our holiday extra special- we visited five times in two weeks! At each visit we were made so welcome, as were our two Goldies. The food was delicious and the chef was very accommodating in making minor adaptations; we also had the Sunday meal - wow! our plate was full and excellent value for money. This place is a real asset to the village.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere, very friendly staff and very dog friendly ! Plenty of outside space. Food was excellent but for me the choice was a bit limited. We went on a Sunday, I’m on a strict diet but thought I’d be ok with a simple steak and salad but no steaks on a Sunday so I struggled ! We will definitely go again but perhaps not on a Sunday, they do a steak night in the week !

What a fabulous friendly village pub this is. The staff are friendly & accommodating. A good range of very well kept real ales, an amazing choice of local cider, a great range of gins & whisky. Food is homemade & delicious, with a good choice on the menu as well as a specials board. Portion size is big so make sure you wear an expanding waistband! They serve the best burgers in North Norfolk & super tasty curry on Thursdays. I would recommend booking as they're always super busy, which obviously speaks for itself. Regular entertainment & Dog friendly too.

Went to a fantastic murder mystery here. The atmosphere was great, the food delicious, the staff great and the mystery was fun engaging.

Ate here twice during a long weekend in Norfolk, and couldn’t fault it. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food magnificent and the choice and quality of beers second to none.

Excellent service, excellent breakfast that was a 10/10 breakfast. Clean & tidy room, modern bathroom with great power shower, and everything spotlessly clean. Location was handy for Scotch Corner, which was why we picked it. Would defo stay again. Great value.

We have visited before and enjoyed the experience so booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Very disappointed this time. Quite a few dishes unavailable and almost no choice for vegetarian. Very subdued atmosphere for Sunday evening.

To be clear I've placed 3 stars to rooms because I didn't stay in one so I have no idea. The Pub/restaurant however is a wonderful example of a real traditional British pub. Just opposite the Croft race circuit this little gem was welcoming and well ran by very experienced and friendly staff. Great food, great value and great atmosphere. I would recommend a visit.

This was our first visit here and we will definitely be going back. Our roast lunch was absolutely delicious and more than ample portions. The selection and quality of beers on offer were very good . The staff were all extremely friendly and efficient . Thank you for a lovely gastronomic experience.

My partner and I stayed at The Chequers Inn for two nights for a friend's wedding in the area. Could not begin to rate this establishment highly enough for it's rooms and food, both of which exceeded expectations in every way. Amazing breakfast too! I'd experienced a nasty accident earlier that day when I'd dropped a cup of boiling tea over my foot. When my partner asked staff for an ice block the owners jumped into action, going so far as to provide burn cream and a bandage. They frequently checked I was okay throughout the rest of our stay. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

My wife and I were given the most warm welcome at the Chequers Inn after a tiring overnight transatlantic flight from NY and a nearly four hour drive from Heathrow Airport. I cannot tell you how great the hospitality was for two exhausted travelers who were looking for a traditional Sunday pub lunch in Norfolk before arriving at our nearby AirBnB. The food was fantastic and the beer (for this expatriate Brit, at least) was delightful. Everyone in the pub greeted us like we were family. We couldn't have asked for a better welcome to the UK.

Recommend this pub while staying in the area for the Thursford Spectacular. When we visited the pub was very quiet so we had no problem obtaining a table. It was curry night but the full menu was available and also a specials board. We had basic potato and leek soup followed by scampi which was very adequate and enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and service was good and we would visit again.

Went for evening meal on curry night. But full menu was still available. Went for the curry but a bit disappointed to find that by 7pm one of the three curries was sold out. So left with one meat and one veggie choice. But that aside it was a great experience. Curries were very tasty. Staff really helpful. It still retains the feel of a proper country pub. Many pubs in the area have gone all out on ‘gastro’ and so not a place to go for a drink any more. Was there midweek in November but pretty busy. Overall had a nice feel. Would definitely add to pubs to go to when in the area

We had a good meal with good, friendly efficient service. It was curry night when we visited and the place was full, which is a good sign. One of our party had a curry, which was classified as mild, but was quite hot. It was very nice but hotter than expected. Others in the party had fish and chips or falafel burger, all of which were well cooked and presented and tasty. Deserts were very good. The ice creams and sorbets were full of flavour and the gin and lime custard tart was excellent.

Not been here for many years - mainly because not passing by - but were in village and food was being served all afternoon. Nice pint of a guest seasonal ale. Friendly service happy to ‘fine tune’ menu swapping things around to suit our taste/s. Food came in reasonable time; was hot and tasty as well as priced reasonably … not sure you can ask for more in one of few pubs in North Norfolk that has not gone all ‘gastro’ and ‘Masterchef’, thus retaining some sanity of having good ‘pub grub’. A quiet place to go for refreshments ... the locals at the bar talked in hushed tones, as did the bar tenders. The menu was small and pretty uninspiring, just a few pub classics. I tried the halloumi fries and the cheese plate. The chips were fantastic but the cheese plate comprised 3 strips of hard cheese (no variety) and a half dozen savoury biscuits with a few nuts.

From the minute we stepped inside we were made to feel very welcome. Four adults, a baby and two dogs. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food didn’t disappoint it was freshly cooked, beautiful presented and very tasty. Thank you we will be back.

Whilst staying nearby for the weekend we decided to have lunch here after having watched the ladies cup final. What a lovely traditional and welcoming pub. There’s plenty of space to park. The toilets were extremely clean and beautifully decorated. The staff were all really friendly, as were the locals, and the food really tasty. All in all, just a lovely pub for all to visit xx

We visited a few times this week as were camping down the road. On the first night we asked for the wi-fi code and were told they didn't have one as the internet was so patchy. Instead, they suggested that we try some of the different games they had. This was a massive hit with the kids (my son kept asking to go back to play battleships!) and meant we had a lovely visit. On the final night we went there for dinner and were very impressed with the service and quality of the food. Every dish was delicious. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. We will definitely visit again if staying in the area.

The Chequers is one of very few places open for takeaway around here just now, although sadly only two days a week, but the food is terrific and the service efficient and friendly. Today’s roast was really outstanding. Thank you to the management for keeping going and giving us something to look forward to.

We had not visited here before but on reading the reviews decided to give it a try and visit the priory at the same time. The food is good quality home cooking and for the price very good value. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The place could not be more covid secure and they have clearly thought about what to do to keep everyone safe and for this they should be commended. We would be happy to return. Let’s keep supporting these local businesses whilst we can.

This was recommended to us by another local business so we booked for our dinner the night before. Easy to park the car and tables spaced out well. On arrival we were swiftly taken to our table. They have really put some effort into complying with the social distancing and covid measures.We had rib eye steak but without the seafood accompaniments, because of a fish allergy and the piri piri chicken which both came with chips and a homemade slaw, The rib eye did turn out to be a little rare in places for the request of a ‘medium’ but still fine.Interestingly we were seated in the gallery which is an enclosed outdoor corridor with little two person compartments each with a small gallery of local amateur artists work which was great and also a interesting opportunity for these painters to sell their work.

The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. We were able to sit with our party under a gazebo and enjoy a delicious and well-cooked meal together. It felt very safe. The outside bar has a very attractive terrace plus there are two or three shelters in the garden for eating and drinking. Good choices for vegetarians. Definitely recommend.

We were visiting Norfolk as we do annually from Derbyshire and had noticed this lovely looking pub. We booked via email and got an immediate response booking us in on a Friday night for the 6 of us under shelter outside. We were nervous about eating out as we hadn't done it much since lockdown especially with one of our party being pregnant but immediately we were made to feel extremely comfortable but also safe with excellent social distancing and PPE in place. The food was amazing, the staff friendly and efficient and it was all round the best place we could've chosen for our last meal.Thank you so much to the team for making us feel so welcome.See you next time!

During this covid pandemic all restaurants and pubs trying hard to accommodate the masses, we had booked 5 evenings plus a takeaway meal from the main menu, all was excellent, the staff were all lovely and couldn't have done more to make customers feel welcome, we were lucky and were put in the gallery and on the couple of evenings the weather was chilly were pleased to be there, there were large gazebo type awnings in the grounds and people did not seem put off to be outside. The food was well cooked and presented, hats off to all of you for doing a good job in trying times.
