Stayed for one night, all the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spacious, clean , light and comfortable with an excellent bathroom. Breakfast was very good with an excellent choice of freshly cooked food, cereals, pastries and fruit. Will definitely return and would certainly recommend staying here

It is some sadness I read the reviews on this hotel . I booked via booking .com and it wasn’t until after it was confirmed and paid I got an email saying there was no lift.An inconvenience with two suit cases but not the end of the world .it was self check in and out . We stayed Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday nights for those night the member of staff on duty couldn’t do enough for you ( her baby is due in December they will miss her when she is on maternity leave) The Sunday girl (60 +) was north walshams version of the dizzy blonde 4 guest arrived for breakfast at 8.30 prompt she threw a tantrum no welcome conversation just do you want tea or coffee she was more interested about looking after her dog ,not very hygienic in a dinning room. Previously breakfast had been superb but Sunday's certainly was sub standard Almost too much trouble for her. On the strength of Wednesday to Friday hotel 5* house keeping first class , would go back Sunday experience took the shine off it .

Hi ,went to Norfolk for a couple of nights thought I'd go somewhere that on there website looked perfect ,not cheap £130 per night for room ,on arrival on Saturday we where directed to the room which was very nice but cold ,the radiator was warm and there was a electric radiator already in the room which I turned on as well, the room never really got comfortable we got into bed to stay warm ,now we will tell you about the ensuite ,looks great when you walk in but it was freezing ,it had been updated but nobody thought about the heating,a silly heated towel rail was on wall but it made no difference ,the following evening I put the electric radiator in the bathroom so we could use the shower, don't laugh the shower would not adjust it just burned you and the shower tray just kept filling up we had to turn it of or it would overflow into the bathroom, manager was called next day and she said she never ever had another problem with this room and dismissed everything we told her ,would never set foot in this establishment ever again

Beautiful house, excellent decor and rooms. Sadly they no longer operate as a hotel, they are an excellent B&B if that’s what you need. We booked on the basis of understanding it had a bar and restaurant so were disappointed on arrival. They did try to contact us to explain but that was on Saturday and our booking was on Monday we did not pick up the call and no message was received.

I have decided to post this review 6 months later due to an email I just received from Scarborough hill.Firstly,we were due to have our special day here last April after visiting a couple of years before and loving it.When we originally booked, there was a lady named Kate looking after us who was fantastic and very helpful.Once the business was taken over everything went downhill ( I have every email to back this) Prices were changed, wrong into given,no personal touch the list goes on.Sadly,as for everybody covid changed all our plans and our wedding was postponed until September. Not once did we receive an email asking how we were, not a little card sent in post ( something I would do working in this industry).I will not name and shame but the lady looking after us was unprofessional and once we even overheard her negative comments towards us as she wasn't aware we were in room next door.We agreed to go ahead with our wedding ceremony as we were unsure how 2021 would be and have our reception in our garden which thankfully was beyond perfect thanks to a venue decorator, caterers and help of Family and friends. On arrival at Scarborough hill the morning of our wedding my now Husband was asked who he was,( in his full groom suit)our guests were spoken to abruptly and no effort to clean outside for photos.I think we may have received congratulations from one of the team and the chef commented on how beautiful my dress was which was lovely of him.If you want a wedding with unprofessional emails, rude responses and negativity then this is ideal. On a positive note, the venue itself is stunning and perfect for pics. And now,the reason for this post...As I said,we got married in September after many tears not knowing whether to wait or not but both my parents aren't getting any younger and last year showed us all we never know what tomorrow brings.I just received an email asking if we want to go ahead with our wedding and reception at Scarborough hill! how bloody insensitive and goes to show no personal touch as they don't even remember we married there! Extremely upset and will not be visiting here again or recommending!

We booked here on the recommendation of locals while visiting the area. First impressions were good. However we were surprised to find only one member of staff acting as barmaid, waitress and receptionist. All was going well till our main courses arrived. Wife's was a Seafood and Smoked Salmon Linguine with chilli, coriander and ginger. There was no Smoked Salmon, the dish was prepared with so much chilli that she couldn't taste anything else but. She actually felt ill and couldn't eat more than a few mouthfuls. We're also sure that a half dozen prawns does not constitute the description Seafood. I had the steak. It came out cooked as requested however I found myself picking lumps of gristle out of my teeth. Definitely wont be visiting or recommending this restaurant.

Came with my mother and grandmother for a meal whilst visiting the area and had a lovely meal. The hotel is gorgeous to look at, very tastefully decorated. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and had visors on for covid safety. The full menu advertised online wasn't available but honestly at this point in time is anywhere operating at normal capacity?! Some of the other reviews I've read are really unforgiving considering the place has had to be closed for months and we are literally living through a pandemic, lighten up guys! The meal wasn't extremely expensive, just about in line with most other restaurants, and the portion sizes were huge. Really enjoyed ourselves, thank you for a nice evening!

We took advantage of the eat out scheme, originally the menu stated £20 for sirloin steak, when we got there the price had been upped to £24 for an 8oz sirloin, small portion of chips, an onion ring, a half a tomato and half a mushroom!! Service was very very slow as well, no idea as it wasn't busy, food was OK, but for £135 for 4 of us, no sweets either, was very steep.. Glad we tried it, definitely won't revisit.. Don't recommend it either

We had not been since a family wedding 8 years ago. The hotel looks like it has been updated and felt modern but still cosy. We had a main and dessert which were both very nice and decent sized portions. It is fairly pricey but in line with hotel restaurant prices. The staff were very pleasant and were wearing masks. Overall we felt very COVID safe sitting in the bar area.

We waited ages for our meals, 4 in total, then when they came my partner's steak was cold , just said sorry never offered to rectify this, and the sauces that we ordered to go with the steaks came 10 minutes later so half the meal was eaten.. Two of the meals were nice. Had to ask for bill 3 times then when it came it was not itemised so we didn't know how much anything was. My friend was so annoyed didn't query as wanted to leave. Dinners again need to be selective, enjoyed the chicken, young and tasty. deserts again let them down, roulade not as expected and crumble disappointing but overall we were satisfied. Some reluctance for a detailed meals and drinks bill, but should be automatic. A lovely setting especially for breakfast in the conservatory with a lovely rural view around the garden and beyond.

Booked here for new years even 2019/20. Emailed well ahead of time our [minor] dietary requirements and confirmed by phone, they said no problem. We paid £80 each for a meal and gala evening plus £65 each for B&B. I hate onions and garlic......my wife is intolerant of garlic......We arrived early and had a bar lunch, I asked as usual for a meal without any of the above only to be served a tomato full of garlic. When we went to our room it was cold, not cool, cold. The radiator was on so we left it for a bit but to then went cold despite the room temperature being uncomfortable cold. I spoke to reception and a member of staff came up with a fan heater and explained that the boiler was playing up and apologised. The same member of staff reappeared a little while later to say there had been a breakdown in communication and our menu choices had both onion and garlic in and would we like to try something else on the menu. My choice would have been a repeat of the bar lunch and my wife chose risotto. He went only to return to say that the Risotto had onions and garlic so my wife asked if it could be cooked without? He returned again to say no!!We were really disappointed as the room was still cold some three hours on and the meal was rapidly going down the tubes.... enter the manager who said there was nothing wrong with the boiler 'it was on a timer' [rubbish...off in the early evening when there are guests there?!] She said she would ask the chef to cook without onions and garlic. Unfortunately for us there was too much going wrong, they ruined our celebration evening, staff contradicting each other etc etc. It was supposed to be the start of a new year and for me an important '0' birthday year. So we decided to leave, they gave us a full refund but we had paid for our travel and to have the dogs looked after so a pretty disastrous evening..The staff did try to help but too much was wrong in too many ways and for £150 each it was appalling. We also thought that the hotel was very tired looking in parts, needless to say we won't be going back.

We walked into the reception area to be greeted by a roaring open fire and the hum of laughter from the bar, so a lovely atmosphere on a damp autumn evening. The new owners really have made an impact and a positive one at that. But our friends did get 1 bottle of wine. The rest of us had to pay for all of our drinks. The menu had a good range of choices. The meal took some time to arrive but it was ok. Apart from the steaks being a bit tough. We asked for them to keep separate bills for us but they could not do this and said they would sort it at the end of the evening. We ended up having to do this ourselves. The person behind the bar said ' Its a bit of a laugh'. Through out the meal we had to keep going to the other room to get service and to ask for our bill. At a place that perports to be fine dinning i would expect better service. Especially since there were only 2 tables of guests! I feel we can not recommend this place and we wont be going back

I took my parents here as they met there 50 years ago and for many years it was their 'local'. We were welcomed by a very enthusiastic young man and choose a table in the dining room by the patio windows so we could see the beautiful daffodils which line the driveway. The menu has a wide selection of choice and in my opinion caters for all tastes. Our food was very enjoyable and good value for money. I would recommend trying this restaurant as everyone working there does appear to be trying to make a success of it and although we had a lovely time, it could do with a few more people to help the atmosphere.

Scarborough Hill is special to us as we got married here last year and the day went perfectly, in 2016 the food and the staff were both amazing. However we went for a meal this week (September 2017) and it seems an overhaul of staff has now massively let this place down. We were served by an older gentleman who had no idea what customer service was. He threw our plates down in front of us when our food arrived. We waited an hour for our meals to arrive which is completely unacceptable even when food is cooked fresh, and then when the food arrived we were very disappointed. The portions were small for the price and the food was low quality. My husband's steak and ale pie consisted of a bit of watery beef casserole with a shop bought pie lid placed on the top - it was NOT a pie. I had cod and chips and whilst the fish was nice, it was fried in far too much oil. The dish was advertised as cod, chips, peas and tartar sauce yet when it arrived there was no sauce. I asked the waitress for tartar sauce and she went to get some..... 20 mins later she was still gone so we caught the other waiter and asked only to be told 'she's trying to find some!!" - why advertise a dish as served with sauce if you have no intention of serving it with it!! When it finally arrived (after everyone else had almost finished their meals!) it had obviously just been whipped up in the kitchen as they had none and it wasn't very nice. To top off the experience, the older gentleman cleared our plates and immediately put dessert menus in front of us saying "I assume you are all having dessert?" This rudeness was the last straw and we quickly asked for the bill instead. At no point during our meal did anyone ask how the food was or if we wanted any more drinks. The only slight saving grace was that the young boy behind the bar was very polite and friendly. We will not be returning again and feel very ripped off by the price we paid for the shockingly bad food and service!!! The only positive for us is that we had our wedding here last year with wonderful staff and delicious food. If we were looking at wedding venues this year, Scarborough Hill would now definitely be avoided!!! Very disappointed for the place.

On 13th September we had dinner here and it was dreadful. We have been here in the past, in fact our daughter was married here a year ago and it was wonderful. I don't know what has happened but it's not good. We shall not be returning. The only positive comment I can make is that the young man behind the bar was very polite and professional. Unfortunately the waiter, an older man, was sadly lacking in customer service! He plonked our meals on the table after a long wait (about 50 minutes), At no point did he or anyone else ask if we were enjoying our meals. When he had returned to take our plates he handed out dessert menus and addressed us with the words 'I assume you want dessert' Not surprising, we paid and left at that point! Our meals were disappointing and not worth what we paid. Two words to sum it up - SHOCKINGLY BAD

Stayed here for a few nights. Although slightly mobility impaired, I was not pleased with the stairs to the bedrooms. Being an old building the stairs were very steep, risers high and treads narrow. Without the help of my husband I would not have been able to climb them. When booking I enquired which floor the bedrooms were on and was told all on first floor. I explained I had a little difficulty with them but hoped I could manage. I was not told anything about the staircase at all.The staff are superb and the food is excellent. Nothing too much trouble. Good selection of dishes but spoiled by serving all food on cold plates even breakfast. The rooms were very clean although they do need updating and TLC. I had a couple of really nice kept Woodfordes ( a Norfolk brewery) and my wife enjoyed one of their many draught lagers.I ate their steak and kidney pie with boiled potatoes and vegetables and my wife enjoyed her chicken with bacon and blue Stilton. All in all very enjoyable though somewhat understaffed especially for a Saturday evening. Otherwise nil complaints.

Just back from a 2 night stay as part of a wedding party. I was highly impressed with the venue and the high level of attention to detail from the staff. The grounds were perfect for children to run around in and there is plenty of parking. Ian, the manager and his staff could not have done enough to ensure the wedding day went smoothly. That aside there was never any feeling of intusion. The food was good the marque lovely. The toilets were clean at all times and the rooms were very comfortable. Overall the atmosphere was relaxed. The only thing it lacked was ash trays outside, so guests put their butts on the grass - minor point in the grand scheme of things.

We were staying on the caravan site opposite the hotel and thought it would be an ideal place to eat. What a mistake. The girl on the bar, who was also the waitress was absolutely lovely, helpful and polite if only everything else had gone as well as the start. The mushrooms on a crouton were nothing more than mushrooms on a large piece of toast and traditional prawn cocktail was just that, prawns with a blob of sauce from a jar. From there it got worse. One of our party was a vegetarian and chose the tartlet, it was solid pastry on the outside and soggy uncooked in the middle. The fish was square, the lasagne was dried up, and the vegetables ( swede, carrots and cabbage) were slapped in a bowl and although we asked for chips got new potatoes with no gravy. We don't usually complain and normally we would just not return but we felt something had to be said. I will say they reduced the bill a large amount and were very apologetic but it had spoiled the first night of our holiday. The hotel is beautiful and with an adult only caravan site across the road, has the potential to be very successful.

I visited for a carvery lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon with my partner and his parents. The setting is wonderful, if a bit out of the way. We sat in the bar area for a drink before going into the orangery for lunch, both areas were lovely. There are some nice sofas you can relax on which looked like an ideal spot for a coffee. We received a really warm welcome and all the staff we encountered were so polite and friendly, they are a credit to the establishment. The food was nothing more than average. The vegetables looked less than appealing and were over-cooked and soggy. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt. The potatoes were OK and the meat was nice. I had salted caramel fudge cake for pudding and asked for it warm but it came cold. It wasn't a huge problem so I didn't bother to say anything. The cake was alright but very sickly. My rating would have been less but I have to mark up for the service and setting.

On 11 October 2015, my husband and I and four other friends visited the Scarborough Hill Country Inn at North Walsham. We all had the carvery meal. I was disappointed there were only two choices of meat available, turkey and beef and I would have liked the gravy to have been a little hotter. However, my husband and I really loved the deep portion of bread and butter pudding we were served. Prices were very reasonable, £8.95 for the carvery and £4.50 for the desserts.I love the location of their Conservatory Restaurant and look forward to returning.

We stayed at the hotel for one night before moving on to the coast. This is a peaceful country hotel. We arrived after a horrid drive from Yorkshire - the roads were horrendous and then it started raining! What a pick me up it was when we arrived here. The chap on reception helped us up to our room with the luggage. We had a lovely room overlooking the very pretty grounds. It might have been a bit on the small side for some people but we found it very comfortable and clean. Nice bathroom with a bath and shower n

We recently had to opportunity to have an evening meal at the inn's restaurant while staying as guests at the hotel. The dining room is in a very nicely appointed conservatory which offers great views of the grounds. The service was very friendly, though slightly stretched in workload which did seem to cause some delays in service.I had some very nice fish. The cod and chips had a large fillet that was very well cooked. The chips were a little less crisp than I would have liked, but were above average. The food prices were very reasonable.

We were staying nearby and called in here for our first nights' meal. Very warm welcome and we were alowed to have the dog in the bar/lounge area. The dining room looked really nicce. It is a country hotel and restaurant open to all. The meal was excellant but did think the pinot wine was a bit expensive for a bog-standard brand. However everything else was really good and a really nice atmosphere.

Set in its own grounds with chickens roaming free, the surrounding views are stunning.A well stocked bar, friendly staff and clean airy rooms make for a restful stay. We go here every year for my sons birthday Lunch (he is 22 now) as this is his favourate restaurant and we have never been disapointed. We had a lovely welcome from the manager who was attentive and chatty, we were made to feel at home and special. Food was good as always, some of us had nicer than others, the steak was fantastic as were the sweets. I am not 100% sure what makes this place so nice, maybe the people, maybe the hens watching you in the window (or feeding them after the meal) maybe the food but probably all of them.

I have eaten here on two previous occasions, once I had an excellent lunch and another time I enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. The setting is really idyllic, an old house with lots of character set in extensive grounds. What impressed me on my recent visit was the hospitality. We were in the area early on a Friday morning (about 9.30) in need of refreshment and decided to pop in to see if we could have a pot of tea and some biscuits. We were made very welcome and spent an enjoyable hour relaxing with our tea and biscuits. This really is 100% customer focus - well done.

Well attended by Emma and Sarah and then...........the pet chicken went missing. Yes, the pet chicken! All staff outside looking for her before the local fox beat them to it. She is usually in her little house by 9.00pm and it was 9.35 before she was found much to the relief of all. A different sort of entertainment, but if you go do remember to say hello to the chicken!

First call for a refreshing jug of Pimms and a spot of lunch - all very good. Enjoyed it so much we returned another day for an evening meal, which again was very nice. It did lack a bit of atmosphere, and before we were seated in the conservatory you had to go through a 'dead room' housing stacked furniture which spoilt the ambiance a little. However, it is a popular venue for visitors, and weddings.

Went in for Dinner (Easter day) weren't sure if they were still serving, but luckily for us they were.We had the local Asparagus with poached egg (ummmmm scrumptious) I had the trout and hubby had the beef which he said was really good and very tender, hubby had the sticky toffee pudding and I had the creme brulee which was really creamy, one of the best I've ever had, and that is comparing to the ones I've had in France and Italy. We had a couple of drinks in the bar, which has comfy sofa's, before strolling back to the Two mills touring park across the road. All in all a very enjoyable evening without having to drive.

I may not be the world's most difficult diner to please, but I certainly must come somewhere in the top ten: a vegetarian who doesn't like vegetables is a pretty difficult customer to please. Usually I have to resort to the children's menu before I can find anything to suit my severely limited tastes. Today, however, I discovered a restaurant that happily adapted its menu to suit me, and I enjoyed one of the best meals out I've had in a long time...and only about a mile from my own back door.On the Old Yarmouth Road into North Walsham, one of North Norfolk largest market towns, there rises a very steep hill. This is noteworthy enough in itself in this flat landscape. Locals come from miles around to stare at it, scratch their wise old heads and mutter: "I ain't never sin nothun like it, bor, an' thass a fact."Half way up this spectacular hill (or half-way down, if you're going the other way) is an charming old building, nestling modestly out of sight of the roadway. At the road end of the steeply-rising drive, sign boards proclaim that there is a country inn up there. I have always taken their word for it, but today, we turned off the road and parked outside the wisteria-hung entrance.A plaque on the door announces that the local Rotary Club dines here every fortnight. A good sign, this - discerning eaters, these Rotarian chappies. There is an air of slightly faded glory when you enter the reception room. A rare antique piano stands against the side wall. Technically an upright, it is so upright, in fact, that it almost reaches the ceiling. Other antique curiosities adorn the bar and the other public rooms. (I spent longer than I needed in the gents, enjoying reading the reprints of old maritime posters which decorate the walls.)The small bar serves local ales, and there are settees to relax on here while you wait for your meal to arrive. From a broad, and (I am told) mouth-watering menu, my wife selected a simple dish of local asparagus served with a poached egg from one of the hotel's own chickens and a portion of home-cut chips. I can testify personally that these are some of the finest chips to be had hereabouts, and I've sampled most of those on offer. The waitress said if we wanted extra chips we only had to ask. (We did, but were too scared of looking gluttonous to say so, the original portions having been generous in the first place.)Although we dined in the bar today, the hotel also boasts a large conservatory where big parties can be accommodated. Rooms are available for overnight stays, and there is an imposing marquee on the lawn for weddings. Don't tell the wife, but if I ever have another wedding, I'm definitely going to come here. if you have never dined here, I urge you to do so at once, before the rest of the world discovers it and takes all the best seats.

In its heyday,15+ years ago, the Scarborough Hill was probably the finest eatery in the area. Since then, there has been a succession of owners, and it is now 'Ian' who is hoping to put it on the map once again. It is an ideal location - i.e. for a wedding in particular - and is an ideal spot to explore North Norfolk, and, inland, the city of Norwich. The hospitality and friendliness which greets you is quite apparent ... the menu is varied, and not over-priced. On a recent evening out with friends (10 of us), the service was very good and the food nicely presented. The conservatory, though not open the other evening, provides a lovely, relaxing outlook, and the marquee is ideal for that special occasion.I understand that work has been done on the refurbishment of the bedrooms, and Ian has still some way to go to return it to its former glory - but Ian needs the support of everyone to visit the Scarborough Hill and make a success ... go there and try.

Passed this restaurant many times and thought that it looked great from the outside so it must be superb on the inside. I booked a table for 4 adults and 3 children and when we arrived we were shown into a huge conservatory with a green decor scheme everywhere. There was absolutely no atmosphere in this room , no background music, just the chink of cutlery on crockery from a couple of diners. This restaurant is not geared up for children and they don't have a children's menu .we sat in silence and couldn't wait to leave . On appositive note the food wasn't to bad. This restaurant has so much potential but it has lost its way. I probably wouldn't come back again.

Went to this restaurant with a group of friends today. The service was poor, the choice of dishes very limited. Chose the Cod Mornay with new potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I have never seen such an unappetising dish before. The new potatoes could have done with a knob of butter, the seasonal vegetables consisted of sweetcorn, roughly chopped carrots and swede. I would not call that seasonal. We queried that with the waiter, but he could not be bothered to come back with an answer. There are a lot of lovely places to eat in and around North Walsham and that's where we are going to go in future.

Lovely location and premises. Turned up for lunch on two occasions only to be told no food was being served due to the fact that a wedding reception was going on (in the marquee at the back) Why the chef was not up to offering snacks as well as this is beyond comprehension. Wrote to the owning company - no response. They used to serve delicious bar meals but last time we went the only offer was a carvery - which we do not find appealing. At least there is some decent beer on the bar - Jackel! A pity as Norfolk is not exactly blssed with a plethora of nice places to visit and eat in.

Just had Works Christmas meal here. The Duty manager Ian could not have been more cheerful and helpful but could not say the same for the waitress on duty that evening. We had a lovely long table in the conservatory to seat 18 of us but the crackers must have been the cheapest on the market ! we had pre ordered everything so service was quick but without a smile from waitress and since when have you had bread rolls served on right hand side !! The young lady chef serving carvery was excellent but would have liked more choice of veg plus chipolata sausage as stated rather than a cocktail sausage would have been nice. When it came to coffee time i did not get given a cup so asked waitress for one to be replied with an abrupt yeah she also reached across the table!! with pot of tea whilst pouring hot tea from other pot in her hand over one of my ladies. An average meal with duty manager being let down by his waitress. Would consider returning if more veg was available and different waiting staff were on duty.

My friend and I visited the Scarborough Hill for lunch. The menu included a carvery, which we both had. Vegetables were perfectly cooked and piping hot (which isn't always the case with carveries), but there wasn't much selection. Turkey was also good. The beef was not so good, with a lot of gristle, and was the only thing that spoilt the meal a little.Setting was lovely - a conservatory with a wonderful view of autumn woods - especially on a sunny day such as this was. We arrived earlier than the rest of our group, so headed to the bar for a drink. The bar was empty other than four members of staff discussing which items went on which bills. No greeting of any kind was made. When we were eventually served an apology for the wait was made, so all was good. Unsurprisingly drinks are fairly expensive - circa £5.60 for a pint and a half. When the rest of our group arrived they were served by a different member of staff who frankly seemed out of their depth. While drinks were being got part of the group went through to the restaurant. When we went through to join them*, no menus had been given and no staff were about so we headed to the carvery... *The conservatory was extremely warm - this was obviously noted either by staff or other customers as some of the windows had been cracked open - the tables were heat worn (tablecloth would be good) and some of the chairs were a tad grotty/wobbly.Priced at £5.95 a head (no discount for children, despite them being given half the amount of meat, and having far smaller portions of veg). There were two meats on offer - beef and pork - with roast and boiled potatoes, along with three boiled vegetables - carrots, swede and cabbage. Now, I'm not a person who likes to see blood dripping from my meat but to say the beef was overcooked would be being polite. The pork was fine... though if you like your crackling you can't be shy - don't expect to be offered any, you'll have to do the asking. The boiled potatoes were fine, however the roast potatoes were reminiscent of school dinners. The other vegetables were acceptable, but not exceptional, and a little more variety would be nice. The Yorkshire Puddings were far from homemade and rationed to one per customer. The staff were slow to clear the table - taking a couple of plates then disappearing.Despite the main course being underwhelming, we all decided to have a dessert. Both the chocolate sponge and the treacle sponge (both £3.95) looked like they'd come straight out of a tin, the jam roly poly (part of a deal: carvery plus starter or pud for £8.50) was hard going, packet custard and cheap ice cream were the cherry on the cake.OK, so £5.95 sounds like a good price for a carvery. But take a moment to weigh up the cost against the quality (of both product and service) and you could find countless places which offer far better value for money.

I telephoned the hotel on the evening we wished to visit and asked if they had availability that evening. I was told the restaurant was full but that we could eat in the bar area. I accepted this. On our arrival we waited quite sometime to even be served a drink, there were two staff members, neither of whom seemed to know what they were doing, or anything about the food/drinks available and to be honest I don't think they even cared. There is a very limited menu or a carvery. We chose the carvery and when we went through to the restaurant were quite surprised to see vacant tables when we had been advised we would have to sit in the bar due to the restaurant being full (as we didn't arrive until 8.15pm and they finish serving at 9pm I do not think they had other diners arriving). There were two meats on offer, two potato options and three veg. One meat option was turkey yet there was no stuffing. The vegetables were overcooked and as chef warned us the carrots sugared (WHY?) my partners beef was bery tough and all food was just warm. We decided to have desserts too, again a very limited choice and they were cheap and nasty. We would never go back or recommend this to anyone.

Fish and chips served freshly cooked in a nice light batter. We treated ourselves to fish and chips here. It is on the pricey side for fish and chips but the staff and environment made it decent value. The views from the table were also nice, especially as it was a cold day. Toilets were nice and clean and hot water to wash and warm hands up. Good that we arrived at 12noon opening time as we could choose a table with a good view. It was busy when we visited. Down in Worstead on wee business trip, asked about possibility of lunch nearby and were directed to the White Lady. It was around 14:30 on a Sunday afternoon so expectations weren't too high (would have settled for a sandwich...). Friendly welcome, assured food would be no problem and we're given 3 menus! We're invited to sit anywhere we chose so opted for window seat in dining area to rear. We both opted for Sunday roast topside. Absolutely fantastic. Beef cooked to perfection, awesome roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud, came with glazed chantenay carrots, buttered green beans and zingy red cabbage, jug of lush gravy and topped of with dish of unctuous Cauliflower and cheese (each by the way). Thinking about making the 3 hour drive again just to have that experience again.
