We phoned through a big order tonight and asked for it to be ready at 6.45pm. We arrived 5 minutes before and the staff were busy cooking and preparing it. This gave me lots of confidence that the food was freshly cooked. Very efficient and good value-£63 for 7 people. Everything was delicious and hot. The fish (of all sorts) was delicious. The best fish and chips I've had for a long time! We were visiting the area and dropped in by chance and were so glad we did. I asked for a 'large cod' (as most places have kept the same wording but reduced the portion size) : this portion was huge and perfectly cooked! The fish was delicious, tasted very fresh and melted beautifully in the mouth! An all-round treat! I can definitely recommend Straits.

Had the most wonderful fish and chips at ten pounds all made to order so was a few minutes wait but well worth it staff were amazing shop clean and fish very fresh ❤️

What a lovely find called in Monday night for Haddock and chips. The haddock was so chunky and flaky or fish. The batter was cooked perfect my younger son had chicken and mushroom pie and chips and gravy. Oh my God the gravy was spot on. Thanks again will be back next week.

Sadly the fish and chips we had were horrid, the fish was a deep mahogany colour, fried and re fried ,chips soggy, such a shame and at £17 not cheap

Excellent service by the very friendly ladies working who went out of their way to help my daughter with a sauce issue. Fish & chips were incredible quality and hot as made fresh to order! Bonus points for the curry sauce which was the icing on the cake.

We were a family of 10 with 6 adults and 4 children, none of whom could make up their minds what to order, but with great patience the staff managed to sort us all out. How they managed to get all of our order correct is a miracle. The staff were incredibly helpful and cheerful with lots of banter and joking. We ate by the beach and the food kept hot until we got there. The food did not disappoint, everyone agreed, the best they had ever had. Lovely crispy batter, delicious fresh fish and dry chips, not greasy at all.

After many recommendations we decided to try straits. Upon arriving you intially could be mistaken that there’s a queue .. infact it’s a well organised system .. simply walk to the counter , order , pay (and they accept card unlike Dave’s!!) receive a little number step outside wait for your number and return to collect your food. The fish was enormous and the batter delicious , slightly thicker and crispier than some fish and chips shop but definitely more tasty.. we also ordered a battered sausage amazing !! Oh and some curry sauce. The whole family LOVED it .. best fish and chips in sheringham for sure

The Sheringham fish and chip scene is a funny thing, ask a local for a recommendation and they’ll usually tell you very subjectively their favourite. A kind of blind loyalty for one reason or another, which is fine. Not helpful or relevant and completely biased. If you want to say X is the best, you need to test the others. If you never go anywhere else, how would you know? I’ll offer my loyalty to the outlet that offers freshly cooked fish to order (not hot holding). With recently, well-cooked chips. I’m not really bothered by what they fry in as long as the end result is tasty and not too greasy. Good, friendly service goes some way with me too. Consistency is everything, and the real deal-sweetener for me is good curry sauce. Sounds simple? This for me in previous years was Stevensons, but they were closed in order to refurb, following a fire forcing me to find a “next best thing” after being consistently satisfied there. Having tried all of them and Straits coming into new ownership within the last couple of months of writing this review, I can hands down say they are the best (in my opinion). Portion sizes as expected. Excellent cooking skill demonstrated by the chef, efficient and friendly service from Sadie and the other team members. Delicious curry sauce (everyone else’s seems to be bland and lumpy). Nothing to complain about at all (the other outlets had something for me to mention). Well done & thank you. As long as the team keep up the great work they do, i’ll happily give them my custom.

Great tasting Cod and chips from these guys & girl! We ordered at about 8pm, and they were still busy. Waited about 10 minutes as the food is cooked to order. 2 medium cod & chips for £20, which I thought was quite reasonable considering where they are. The Cod was cooked fantastically, crispy light batter, no skin or bones on the fish, and the chips had a great taste, not sure what oil they use, but it was all delicious. Would definitely recommend this place. Go and sit on the seawall and eat them whilst watching the sunset, brilliant!

Always a good choice for a weekend tea because the batter is absolutely perfect, crispy but not greasy, the chips are fantastic and finally the staff are wonderful, friendly and professional and considering how busy they are they are quick at what they do... thank you, we will definitely be back.

Chips tasted like fish! They must have been cooked in the fish fryer because they were absolutely rank. And they were ones from the heater which looked like they had been there a good while, really dry. Then girl on till wall training another young girl and was absolutely horrid to her. Made a point of being polite to her so she wasn't totally confidence knocked. £3.70 for smalls chips and curry sauce.

Ran out of chips. Was told it would be a 5 minute wait and it turned into a 25 minute wait because of this. This wasn't communicated, we just heard from other customers coming out who tried to order. There was no apology for this or the long wait either.

Don't fall for the low price of a "large" chips. It was barely enough to fill my 10 year old son and was a bit bland. Don't think it will stick with the reputation it had before it re-opened.

In fairness it was only a portion of chips. £3 seems expensive but it is probably the going rate now. The chips were poor, dry and bland. Lots of competition so they need to up their game. Other reviews seem good so I’ll put it down as a one off.

On 16th September at approximately 7.30pm Straits achieved fish and chips perfection. Simply the best I ever had. Everything cooked to order, piping hot , crispy light melt in the mouth batter, beautiful chips even the mushy peas were stand out . Still the best in Sheringham.

Fast service, cod cooked to order in about 8 minutes. Delicious chips, good size portion. Lovely mushy peas.

Very rude gentleman taking orders. £23.60 for two portions of cod n chips. Extremely small portion of cod for the price charged, and only a handful of chips. Definitely not worth the money. Go to the chip shop directly opposite, for a good value portion of fish n chips and avoid Straits.

Really really good chips. Good portion size but not silly large. Prices reasonable. Ketchup portions are 25p but are plenty for one person. Would definitely return. Did not try the fish.

Absolute rubbish fish n chips the chips were not cooked the batter on the fish was a soggy mess and was way overpriced avoid like the plague

Came here on the first day of our holiday. Service was quick, friendly & efficient. Food tasted great, was cooked & seasoned perfectly. Fish tasted fresh & the batter not too greasy. Tried to order here on the last day of our holiday, but they'd sold out. Would highly recommend & will definitely have our fish & chips from here on our next visit to Sheringham.

Visited Sheringham for a holiday and decided to eat some chips from the local chippy however they have given me food poisoning!! Now suffering at home with food poisoning due to badly cooked chips! Very unimpressed with the quality of their food! Don’t recommend at all!

Had a meal for two with sauces and drinks and was pleased with how reasonably priced the cost of the meal was had two fish cakes and chips and two batterd sausage and chips was lovely and was served very quickly and the staff we very friendly and polite will be coming back again for sure

On day trip to sheringham. Not the best , asked for mushy peas and when got back to the car , no mushy peas , wouldn’t go there again , fish and chips and fish cake were not the best,fish looked like it had come out of a box, not fresh!

The fish was fresh and nicely cooked but the batter was unfortunately undercooked and soggy. Chips were OK but not plentiful. Service was slow wrapping the cooked food. Previous annual visits have been good so maybe this is a one off🤞🏼

We stopped by for fish, chips and curry sauce. All of it was fantastic and the best we’ve had in Sheringham. Yes we had to wait about 7 or 8 minutes while the fish was fried but it was beautifully crisp and piping hot. Friendly staff too. We were sad the see the next day that They’ve now closed for the season, and hope they’ll reopen next year.

We waited 35 minutes after they took our order - for 2 portions of chips. There were 4 people making abc serving so I’m not quite sure ehagg to the problem was. Chips were a bit flavourless. Disappointing

Probably the worst fish and ship shops I've ever been. It took them 30 mins to fry a sausage and chips, as only one out of four people working the is actually frying. Don't get me wrong, I still consider these places as fast food, so expect food to be done quicker. And after 30 mins I got a tiniest portion of chips with a sausage. And they didn't add salt as requested in my order. So bad.

Went here on a busy Saturday night and everywhere was packed! They had a great queuing system (you go straight to the counter to order and get a ticket) and the order came in 10-15 mins. Had 2 cod & chips & mushy peas which were piping hot and excellently cooked. The batter was good and the fish was amazing! Would definitely recommend.

The staff didn't seem to understand when asked whether the chips were vegan or not (i.e. are they cooked in animal products). Eventually we got some chips, after a long wait, and they were flavourless, floury and just unpleasant.

First visit since Straits re-opened for the 2022 summer season. Fish was beautifully cooked and chips were tasty. Friendly and efficient service - lovely to be able to come back and enjoy proper fish and chips again. Ps curry sauce was also excellent

After seeing some good reviews I tried for the first time Straits for some cod and chips. The cod was just about o.k. but nothing to write home about. The chips were exceeding disappointing, although they were freshly cooked half of them were just little...

Chips were ok. A bit brown. My main issue is the cod bites which contained the most miniscule amount of cod inside. I'm pretty sure one was just batter. The batter was nice fortunately. My wife ordered sausage and chips, the sausage was very small and beige plus it looked as though it had been given a vasectomy. Please note that one of these stars was for the attractive ginger lass who served us and not for the food. .

Tiny portion sizes for the price, asked for salt and vinegar on the chips yet they seemed to have nothing on, and 20p per sachet of ketchup?!

The food is amazing, and all the fish is cooked fresh! Very friendly staff, and they cater to different markets since they fry in vegetable oil. I would highly recommend, as they are by far the best in the town

Had fish n chips from here today - the chips were so hard they must have been reheated 2 or 3 times, The batter on the fish was dirty brown as recon cooking oil obviously passed its best. The lot went in the bin!! Will certainly Avoid this place in the future.

Probably the worst chips I've ever eaten, on unwrapping they looked like they were about 2 days old and hoped they tasted better than they looked. Were all dried up and hard but also managed to be a bit soggy. With the taste of cardboard. Won't be going there again.

Had fish and chips here bank holiday week as a family of 6 they where lovely and freshly cooked we all enjoyed them. Was very impressed with all staff wearing masks as we only buy from fish shops that do.

Expected it to be average, but i'm impressed, chips were really nice and crispy, not at all greasy. Cod again was not greasy, cripsy batter and a decent size. Keep it up.

Searched for Straits because it mentions Gluten Free fish and chips on their site. Only to be told they don’t do it anymore but I could have chips as they don’t cook fish in it. Update your site please.

I was recommended Straits from a good friend as the best fish and chips in Norfolk and they weren't wrong, very tasty, chips cooked to perfection. Got to be popular when there were Ques out the door before they were even open!

This was a disappointing experience. 2 stars as they are the only chippy that accepted card payment. 2 cod and chips £16.00, the chips was greasy and had no salt or vinegar as requested and the cod had so much salt the batter was not edible.. The cod within the batter was the only nice part. No napkins either... disappointing...

Popular spot which tells it's own story. My recommendation are the chip butties/cobs/rolls with a twist. They are delicious and wide in variety. No seats though so you will be best hitting the seafront for a bit of seaside dining.

Join the queue for the best cooked fish in Sheringham. Gorgeous batter, lovely fish. Accompany them in its chips from the kebab shop opposite and you are in for a treat.

We stopped here, as we have done several times before and the food was brilliant. Not too expensive, short wait, good portion size and very enjoyable. Haven’t been there for a while, but it’s always been fab and will certainly be going again.

What can I say? Lovely traditional fish ‘n’ chips. Good sized portions. Stayed nice and hot for our ten minute walk back to our holiday cottage too.

Best fish n chips I’ve ever had. We took our cod and chips on to the beach and it was AMAZING. Not too greasy, not too fatty and no bad spots on the fish.

Just had THE BEST fish and chips, cod bites and chips and a burger and chips order this evening. Great quality burger; chips were crispy and well cooked; and the batter on the fish was super crispy, I don’t think I’ve ever had better!

This is our regular stop for every visit to Sheringham. We walk down from the car park and pick up a meal before sitting by the sea to enjoy it.
