Pochers Pocket in North Norfolk

The restaurant itself is very nice, clean spacious with nice sea view. Nicely furnished games room and clean toilets. My friend and I went for lunch. We were given a good table and she ordered a ploughman’s lunch and I, cod and chips. The food was terrible. The ploughman’s lunch which she assumed would be cheese, pickles, ham and crusty bread composed: 3 tiny squares of cheese 1 piece of reconstituted ham A small bowl of cocktail onions and breadsticks. No pickles and no crusty bread. When she asked for crusty/French bread she got a small bowl of tiny brown pieces of fried bread. My fish batter was dark brown and splintered over the plate when I cut into it. The fish was small, grey and flat, completely over cooked and tough. The chips were soggy and not pleasant at all.

Had a lovely meal whilst stopping here in the camper.Toilets and showers are very clean. The owners have put a lot of thought into the whole pub in general catering for food as well as entertaining. All staff are friendly and the place has a great atmosphere. Dogs are welcome and there were quite a few in with bowls of water being left out for them.Our waitress was Abbi with an i and she definitely worked very hard whilst still managing to laugh and have a good sense of humour with the customers. Would definitely recommend.

Gorgeous little ‘GEM’ pub right on the beach lots of car park space for our 7.4 metre Motorhome. Pub staff so nice and welcoming, very dog friendly too. We had food three times and 2 breakfast ( stayed 3 nights) every meal was lovely and reasonable priced. Lots of seating inside and out. Toilets and showers opened 24/7 really nice lovely and clean also water point too.

The second time we have stayed in self catering in Bacton with our dogs. On both occasions we used the Poachers Pocket for evening meals a few times. Each occasion the food was good…..especially the burger. My wife is a vegetarian and had no difficulty finding a meal that she was very happy with. The atmosphere is really good and has recently been upgraded. The staff are all really friendly and made a fuss of our two retrievers which made them happy.

Booked for one night stay, which we left after a couple of hours. Check-in was rushed to begin with, they were more focused on taking payment for our dog’s stay. . . Accommodation dirty, sand grit was everywhere on floor and we hadn’t even been to the beach yet. Dampness in room causing breathing difficulties, dust and dead bugs on top of sliding door with more underneath lino, worktop lifting, half of spotlights not working or screwed in, bed highly uncomfortable, not a single PAT tested electrical sticker in sight! Owner does not care about your custom, he refused £87 refund and lied about our check-in time and how we left the room.

I love the location, host is very friendly, it's dog friendly and I wasn't paying attention when I booked, but it doesn't mean the room should be dirty with dog hairs. Room needs to be cleaned better if dogs are allowed. I gave it a 4 only because the room was not clean with bits of mould, dog hair, dirty kettle. Great location

Don't even go for the see views. We have a campervan and had seen this place a few times on Facebook groups as a good place to stop for the night. There were mixed reviews due to a recent change of ownership, but we preferred to park in a pub car park than the road, so gave it a try. The car park was rammed with vans, but we managed to get a spot when a car left. We noticed that the decor had not been changed for a long time, the chairs were dirty, and there were lots of dogs, including the owner's large white dog roaming freely. The food was terrible - sticky humus, uncooked pitta, crinkle cut beetroot from a jar and salad swimming in vinegar, greasy lamb shank with hardly any mash and a spoon of veg submerged in the gravy.....I could go on. The pitta and humus was so bad that we didn't eat it and refused to pay for it, but we felt obliged to pay for the rest because we were parked in their car park. We told the watiress to take the pitta and humus off the bill, but it still appeared on our bill for a total of £60, I called the owner over to tell him and adjust the bill, he bought the correct new bill for £53. He said that if paying by card you need to come to the bar, away from the bill left on the table, but when I went to tap my card he had put in a higher total than the original bill for £64....very sneaky !! Fortunately, I saw it and told him to change it. This carry on annoyed me, and then the chap asked me if the other food was ok, so in a constructive way I told him why each dish was very poor, to which he took afront and said we should not complain and be grateful that we could park there for the night because the equivalent parking would cost £55 for one night, even though he was the one that asked for feedback ?? So we 'disagreed' and and I told him that I had paid £53 for the meal and drinks, and that was adequate. This exchange made us feel uneasy remaining in their car park for the night as we now distrusted them and did not feel safe sleeping there. So we pulled the van roof down, drove off, and parked on the roadside 500m away. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this establishment, and I urge you to pick out the genuine Google and Trip Advisor reviews, and please read the owner's childish comments for a laugh.

After a walk on the beach with dogs, we popped in for a pint and sandwich for lunch. We had whitebait and prawn cocktail. Was nice and fresh but a bit pricey for a small dish. We decided to give the Sunday roast a go. What a real disappointment that was. Veg was barely cooked and rock hard, meat was nice, wayyyy too much gravy and the potatoes weren’t traditional roasts, more baby potatoes which were tasteless. Would not recommend that meal to anyone. Thought I’d cheer myself up with an Eaton mess, was served as a strawberry ice cream Sunday with some sort of frozen strawberry compote at the bottom, hardly any marangue and a plague of artificial whipped cream on top. No fresh fruit to be seen. Overpriced and a bit disappointing but good for a pint and some crisps after a walk on the beach. Campers park overnight for free and there are free facilities if you book and eat a meal there.

This was our 4th visit here. We cannot fault it. Fantastic location, fabulous chalet and lovely welcoming staff. The views are spectacular, right on the beach. MJ and Ahed are very accommodating. Thank you. We will be back

2 nights in the Superior Seaview Two Bedroom Apartment. with Two girls. The advertising of the property was not honest and correct and when trying to speak to the owner and raise issues, these were dismissed as something that i needed to take up with Booking.com and the owner then said "if you don't like it you can leave" and although I stated that I was merely bring the issue up, he proceeded to have housekeeping attend the next day with the remark, "I was told you were leaving today". Pleasant enough staff until you state something isn't right. The apartment facilities were woefully short. 1. Oven and hob did not work… it was disconnected. We were not warned that this would be the case and had taken groceries to make our own English breakfast and a chicken curry but couldn’t. They said they could offer us a refund if we left the next day but of course we didn’t want to ruin our daughter and her friends little get away with us. 2. According to the page on booking.com, they have heating, I went down to enquire why it wasn’t coming on even though we had turned the radiators up full blast and they said it wouldn't be set to come on… even though it was a typical bank holiday weekend in the UK, a bit dreary and only 15 degrees on the Saturday, therefore beach towels were unable to dry. They were able to give us extra towels so not a huge issue, just an inconvenience. 3. Didn’t have an iron or airer as the page claims.

We visited as the menu looked really promising. Unfortunately service was very slow and the food was okay, not deserving of the price we paid at all. Clearly a lot of work is being done to refresh the inside and there is potential but we did regret not choosing somewhere else

Food was poor, not matching the price. Fish fingers were not fluffy white fish, but brown and dense. Sunday dinner was frozen food heated. 3 koftas per dish ! Come on ! The young waitress was rushed off her poor feet, needs two for all the running around. The mature lady in the corner was good at giving orders, but not so good at helping out, quite demanding. The service was quite slow too. This place could be a little gem.

Thank you for the service today for Mums birthday lunch. The owner/manager bar and serving staff were all so welcoming and accommodating for mums lunch, allowing us to dress up the table with balloons and ensuring mum enjoyed herself. They even added extra to the cake we brought. Lovely character pub and clearly improving it. My fish and chips were tasty. Will be back for sure. Thanks again.

Great location, but food and service very mediocre. Also feel it is overpriced for the quality of the food. We had hummus and pitta bread for starters. Honestly was the worst hummus I have ever had! Pitta was nice. I had vegan nut roast for main which was lovely, vegetables however were bland and overcooked and small quantity. Awful roast potatoes, tiny and about 3, obviously frozen. Disappointing. Staff were ok, but rather abrupt and not overly friendly. Allowed dogs which is good, nice location, shame about the food. Would not recommend unfortunately.

There are signs that say 'parking free for customers' but dont be fooled. I popped in for a pint one evening and tried to register my car on the counter top (easily missed if you don't know it is there). The machine took my number and I thought that was that. But despite being a customer (ie spending money in the pub) I received a fine a month later for my parking and my custom. Needless to say most people I know who live in the area refuse to go to this pub for that reason. As the pub have very strange rules about when you can use a credit card who can't rely on a bank statement against the parking fine as you may well be forced to pay in cash. It really is to be avoided like the plague.

FABULOUS PUB SUPERB LOCATION GREAT STAFF FOOD EXCELLENT (EVENING MEAL & BREAKFAST) We stayed in the car park in our Motorhome for one night made to feel very welcome right next to the beach very Dog friendly a lot of renovations taken place to a high standard , large games room inc POOL, DARTS AIR HOCKEY . The service when I arrived was brilliant, the barman and girl were both brilliant. The girl who showed me to the Chalet (No4) and explained everything about the Carpark Registration system. The door locking system was alittle strange but thats just me being not the brightest haha. The chalet was very clean and comfortable. Had the basics in of a kettle, that has a jug to fill it up with, plates, cutlery, cups and bowls. There was a toaster. fridge and microwave. It was the basics but was very happy, expecially the view onto the sea. We unfortunately had to leave early due to a family emergency but will hopefully be coming back soon. I would recommend this place to anyone

Awful food - if I could give 0 I would. Never experienced beef stroganoff in runny broth like, tasteless liquid. Shame as service was good.

Had a brilliant weekend in our favourite seaside pub. Always welcomed like family. Beautiful beach view to enjoy your visit and the staff are so attentive and the new entertainment bar is a great addition with the new refurbishment. Thank you as always to all the fabulous staff.

These guys make you feel so welcome - the food is amazing and the view is fantastic. We go back time after time. Would highly recommend.

Decent breakfast , but at this time of year it’s a bit weird as it’s very quiet Evening meal was very good & the Turkished based food was very good Dog friendly which is always good to know Beware the parking though & make sure you have registered your car details at the bar otherwise it’s an expensive dinner

Stayed here overnight in my campervan. Couldn’t have been made more welcome. The landlord, staff and locals are all lovely. Lovely place to stay for a walk along the beach and the sunrise was amazing. The food was nice and they have a new games room with a pool table and air hockey. As a solo female traveller I felt very safe here. I would definitely return.

What an improvement here. Fantastic place to stay. So many improvement in such a short time. I have read the other reviews on here and although people have been disappointed and vented on this media! They obviously didn't understand that the work that was in progress with on many improvement for the comfort of the Guest's both accommodation and public areas are so very much inproved. Unfortunately you can't make a cake without breakfast a few eggs. To these people that feel and probably had a bad experience, you should really revisit. The welcome l received was totally genuine, and you young lady behind the bar was most helpful and pleasant. Food was also good and the beer well kept and served, especially the real ale offering. The owner have been there around 12 months and have achieved so much in such a sort time, they are to be congratulate. The rooms are exceptionally well equipped and cleaned. It's unfortunate that TripAdvisor doesn't delete comments even when a New Owner takes over a place. Rest assured it won't belong before this place receives top marks for all they do. Again to all that had a bad experience. Give this establishment another try and l can guarantee you will be giving a very different positive review. Dennis

Food was very poor my partner could not eat what she was served and pushed to one side why run a restaurant if you going to serve funky food that tastes like crap why would you run a business like this I hope you can sort your menu out and get a proper chief maybe then you will be a good place to come people what quality food fresh is best

We booked a table in advance not knowing the area & it was a good job we did as the pub was full. The staff were welcoming & friendly. The food was pleasant but more average than wow. It’s hard to know if it was busy because it had accommodation & dining options were limited in the area. It was evident that the owners were undertaking repair works & decorating & still have a long way to go.

What a stunning place, I would really recommend a visit, we are staying in the self catering chalet’s, but will definitely return in our camper van in the better weather, this amazing place is practically on the beach with stunning views!!!! The pub itself is undergoing a refurbishment and what the owner has done so far is of such a high quality, it’s out of this world!!! The pub food is the best I’ve had for a long time, lots of different choices too, the owners are so friendly and welcoming, everywhere is absolutely spotless!!! We are here for 3 nights and are enjoying every moment of our stay!!!!

Excellent food very clean! freindly staff very welcoming nothing was too much trouble! right next to the beah!! You can stay overnight in your camper or mobile home free parking if you eat or dink in the facilities! They are having a refurbishment at the moment looking forward to coming back and seeing it finished! Highly recommend and definitely will be coming back!

What a lovely visit we had! Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Alongside our dinks we had lentil soup, baba ghanoush, a nice middle eastern lamb dish, and cheesy chips. It made for a perfect stop on our New Year's walk.

Great hosts friendly and quick service .. but unfortunately the food was just not up to scratch.. burned cremated sausages for a 5 year old, roast beef was fine but the vegtables looked like they were microwaved, 1 very dry aunt bessies yorkshire (which was not fresh from the oven)... chicken kebab was just chicken with cheese on top ?? The place doesn't know what it wants too be??? Trying too be too much.... unfortunately never eat their again...

Arrived at the poachers pocket.. such a warm welcome by all of their staff such a lovely atmosphere in this pub! Had the steak and ale pie it was amazing! Served wonderfully! They were so busy and managed to squeeze us in which was so kind of them I really don’t understand why there are so many bad reviews about this pub because it’s a lovely place and I really recommend

Would just like to say this pub is a great place to visit, some of the reviews are very unfair people complaining that you should not have to pay to park , well if you are going in pub for meal or drink you do not have to pay, but you must sign in at the bar it’s easy ,if you don’t then you get ticket, tables are sticky because the are not cleaned wrong table are sticky because the previous people running the pub used cheap varnish that is sticky, then complaints about skip on car park well building works is going on all the time so rubbish is put in skip, where else would the put it farmers field or on the beach, food may not be to your taste but it may be to someone else, most of this seems to be down to locals who don’t come in the place I suggest that people TRY IT FOR YOUR SELF the owners are very friendly and the staff are very good and helpfull , the outside is all been sorted then the inside will be done don’t knock it till you have tried it, not everyone’s tastes are the same. The Mediterranean cuisine you served was not just nice; it was outstanding. The flavors, freshness, and authenticity of each dish were a delightful revelation. I particularly savored the Greek salad and the lamb kofta / kafta , which were nothing short of exquisite. The service provided by your staff was also remarkable.
