We visited whilst on holiday in the area. We were greeted by very friendly staff. Although the restaurant was busy, being a Saturday evening, we were not rushed and enjoyed a leisurely meal. My friend is coeliac and the menu offered her lots of choice. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Absolutely love this place. As usual, a lovely warm welcome. We had coffee and a hot chocolate (best hot chocolate I have ever tasted) gorgeous homemade brocoli and Stilton quiche and of course, the famous cinnamon bun! Thank you.
We had the most delightful time at Buttercups! It was a cold windy day and we just fancied a nice spot of lunch. The service was great, very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious! If you want a cosy cafe with heaps of good vibes and great food, this is the one for you. Thank you to everyone at Buttercups for making our lunch so lovely!
This excellent restaurant has now been obliged to close so that the premises can be turned into residential dwellings. It was outstanding because of its unusually huge, varied and delicious menu, its thoughtful staff and pleasant design. There was nothing quite like it.
A sad loss to Sheringham and north Norfolk.
Alway a pleasure to return to this wonderful resturant. Colin and family are very welcoming and the experience full of fun and laughter. Always one of our first go to places when we visit Norfolk and we visit a lot. Thanks Colin and Team your the TOPS

After a lovely and interesting walk around d Cley marshes we were looking forward to a warming coffee (outside a cold dry with temp 3 degrees with heavy frost).
But it wasn’t to be - the visitor centre is not dog friendly so, as we have two dogs we headed for the outside area - closed due to ice!) spoke to staff who pointed us to a summer outside picnic area with wet/frozen seats ! Not at all Impressed.
Having just missed the coast hopper bus we had an hours wait outside.
So if you are dog owners think twice before visiting in hard winter.
We ordered a take away from here on our last night in Swanton Novers - which was about a five minute drive away.
The food was hot when we got it home, had good portion sizes and the Penang curry was delicious. The pad Thai was nice, but could have done with some fresh lemon, peanuts and chilli flakes either in the side or over the top.
The sizzling beef was lovely, as were the ribs. However, the prawns in blankets were a bit underwhelming and we couldn't find any traces of spicy pork stuffed within.
However, we will return next time we're up that way.
Holidaying nearby, I booked a table for Sunday lunch, the two of us plus our sprocker spaniel, Herbie. We arrived 30 minutes early but it was no problem and we were warmly welcomed and seated.
The Star Inn is what I’d call a proper old-fashioned pub. Catering mainly for locals, it was doing a roaring trade during our visit. The customers were friendly and the servers were lovely - one jolly lady in a glittery Santa hat was particularly taken by ‘the little ‘un’, our admittedly adorable pup Herbie, and had several interactions, feeding him a couple of doggy treats AND bringing him a bag of little biscuits to take away.
We ordered traditional roasts - beef for me and a beef and turkey mix for my husband. The lady who took our order asked if we’d like horseradish and cranberry sauce (yes please and no thank you) and brought this to the table BEFORE the food arrived - thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve never understood why most establishments wait until they’ve delivered your food to ask whether you want any condiments then disappear for five minutes to fetch them.
The food was delicious, the horseradish hot enough to blow your socks off, and the portions were very generous - my husband couldn’t manage all his meat (lightweight!) but it was wrapped up to take away. (After a quick rinse at home to remove any gravy and horseradish, Herbie thought Christmas had come early when he had half for his breakfast this morning!) Although we had very little room left after our mains, we somehow managed to share a treacle sponge pudding and custard, which was equally delicious.
A really enjoyable experience made even better by the warmth of the welcome and the fact that the pub is truly dog-friendly. We’ll definitely be back when we’re nearby again in the spring.
Popped by today, had the most amazing halloumi wrap and hot chocolate, the hot chocolate is the best, cream and marshmallow. All served with a smile from the staff
