Sculthorpe Aviator in North Norfolk

We arrived around half past 7 for our booked table, we were greeted by a friendly young lady who said that due to staff illnesses there was only one chef in the kitchen and there had been two large tables orders put into the kitchen, so warned us there may be a delay. We took our seats and ordered drinks, knowing they were pushed, we relaxed and didn’t worry too much, although the server came over and took our food order as soon as she was free. I ordered the Aviator burger and my partner ordered the Halloumi burger, minus the mushroom. We decided to mull over our day, so when our food arrived, it was somewhat of a surprise! It was well worth the wait too, my burger was tasty well cooked and the bacon jam was a lovely addition. The Halloumi burger was just as tasty. We didn’t take long to eat them as we were hungry. After we’d finished and our plates were cleared we were offered the dessert menu, which we both chose from, I had the sticky toffee pudding and my partner had the brownie. Both were well presented and the accompaniments were perfect. The food was excellent and the service was exemplary, given they were short staffed the team did very very well.

Last day of our holiday and booked The Aviator for dinner, we weren’t disappointed. From the pub decor , the welcoming staff, to the dinners…..outstanding, would highly recommended a visit if you’re in the area.

It was our first time at aviator not knowing what to expect we rocked up in some casual outfits and were welcomed in none the less. The food was very good and decently priced with a total of £100 for a three course meal and two drinks between 2 people, Kyle was the star of the night with having a friend chat and also helping me decide on what to have for the night. Overall will definitely be going again at some point but if I was a rich man I'd go on the regular. Highly recommend!

We stopped at The Aviator after finding it by chance on Google maps when a couple of miles away and it did not disappoint. The staff were welcoming and efficient and the food excellent. Great thank you.

Our first time but not our last time at this wonderful venue. We found it online to meet family who were holidaying at Wells-next-the-Sea, so glad we did. From the online reservation and special requirements request to arrival, ambience, themed decor, meals, prices and departure, we could not fault any aspect of this pub. Kyle the Bar Manager greeted us on arrival, had taken note of our special seating arrangements and from then on was friendly, professional and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The 3-course meal we enjoyed (4 different selections made by the 4 of us) was all excellent, with lovely cooking, nothing overcooked, good, generous portions, fresh veg and great tasty meals. The bar was well stocked andvtgevtoikets very clean, good parking, with an outside seating area if required. Although we don't have a dog at the moment, it is a dog-friendly pub. I've eaten many a meal out at restaurants and hotels worldwide and this was very worthy of the 5 Stars I've given. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Grant from Narborough, Norfolk

Loved everything about it the Barman was on his own, he coped marvelously with tending the bar, taking food orders and waiting on the tables. Nothing was rushed he had time for everyone and the pub was busy. Will return

Really lovely venue. Never been before. Found online and booked a Friday night with ease, even in August! Not disappointed with portions or value. They'd been busy so ran out of a couple of popular dishes but still enough choice. Good choice of drinks, really friendly service. Highly recommend.

Fantastic place for food, we decided to try the Aviator and they are doing an offer on Wednesday and Thursday lunch time. They are offering 2 courses for £15 and there is plenty to choose from. I decided to have Fish and chips and the wife went for the Steak and Ale pie we ordered our Desserts at the same time. The member of staff who took our order was very friendly, the Aviator is also dog friendly and that is another reason for going there. The dog was made welcome too as the member of staff told us to help ourselves to the dog treats and the water. We didn't have to wait long before our main course arrived, it looked really nice and well presented. The smells from the food were amazing and you could tell everything was home made by the chef. My fish and chips were the best I have had in a long time, it was a beautiful bit of Cod and the chips were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My wife said her Pie was beautiful and the seasoned mashed spuds along with the veg was very filling. After finishing off our main course we gave it a few minutes before asking for our desserts, we both ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding which came with a butter scotch sauce and Vanilla ice cream oh and not forgetting the caramelised walnut sitting on top of the ice cream, it was delicious and again it was all made in house. We have booked again and a few more of our fellow caravans have decided to book also. Highly recommended if you want qualify food at a good price.

Booked a table for a 5pm supper. Was lovely, plates were hot, food was good and staff attentive but not overtly so.

Six of us went here for dinner, everything we had was really bad. Whitebait was too big, not crispy and tasted too fishy. Pies were soggy and full of stodgy sauce and no chicken. Burger was overcooked and tasteless. We had to complain as we couldn't eat it, ee were told the chef was off and they were understaffed, not our fault, all our meals were bad and we were offered 2 meals free. Not good enough! We wont be back! AVOID!

Although service was a little slow, the staff were friendly and helpful. Food portions were generous, the steak and ale pie went down well, the raspberry mess was a nice take on traditional Eton mess and the chocolate brownies beat everyone (definitely shareable size!). Nb: Veterans ID card accepted - for a great discount

The staff at the Aviator are friendly, welcoming and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The food was well cooked, fresh, tasty and moderately priced with some unusual side dishes which were delicious. The wine list was good if not extensive and like the food moderately priced. My wife and I had a good evening out and have all ready rebooked.

Very disappointing roast. Very little on plates. Warmish booked for 8 to be told there was no room. So booked it for 6. When we got there and up until we left there was plenty of room for 8. Sadly we won't be back or recommending it

we had a family Fathers Day lunch for 7 of us at The Aviator on 16/7, and it was just so good, the food was delicious and the service was very efficient, top marks all round, and incredibly good value as well

We had a really enjoyable lunch here. There was a good choice of food at sensible prices; the food was excellent, as was the service. We would happily eat here again. Parking was easy and it was only a few minutes from the main road

A rural restaurant/bar set in Sculthorpe. If you love aviation then you will like this. A very clean establishment, Aviation decor inside. Welcoming staff with a dog friendly space in the bar area, a small beer garden to the rear of the property. Service was good. Food was out promptly and presented well, Sea bass fillet was good, just fell off of the fork, bread and butter pudding was delicate to the palette.

Cracking local restaurant, had steak and it was cooked bang on ! Wife had pie of the day and we both came away absolutely stuffed and very happy, good value for money and will definitely be going back !

Friendly knowledgeable staff. I had rather pear, walnut and blue cheeses salad, which was tasty and a refreshing mix of complimentary flavours. Timothy Taylor’s Landlord was spot on! Other party member had lasagne also excellent!

Visited here after seeing reviews, we were staying nearby. Fairly busy and waitress advised only one staff member in the kitchen, Saturday, and we may wait a while, 6 of us. Food arrived after about 40 minutes, so not too long, and all was cooked and tasted very nice indeed, would recommend to all.

Pop in when the restaurant had just shut , but the chef cooked us some delicious hand cut chips with onion gravy , was very much appreciated, thank you

Where do I start. Burger, over cooked, I make homemade burgers better. Bacon jam was good. Pie. No, watery content with a mash top. The Yorkshire chefs have clearly never seen a pie. Sausage casserole. This came in a shop bought limp looking Yorkshire pudding. Sorry, thought they had not 1 but 2 Yorkshire chefs. Yorkshire must be in Eastern Europe. Would I recommend, no.

Really don’t bother. Instant mashed potatoe. Pre-made pastry. Really not worth it. Pie was pre-made pastry cut in a square laid on top off a square bowl. With what I can say is a thing that resembles tin dog food tipped in bowl. Not good I’m sorry to say. Not good at all

Very friendly and great service. However the food was a little disappointing. Cod was very small, well cooked, but peas were just......old. Pasta was small and apparently lacked flavour. Will definitely try it again though, maybe this was chefs day off.

This is our second visit & we were not disappointed.Menu choice was good ,I opted for Prawn Cocktail starter which was very tasty .My main choice being Game Pot Pie, excellent choice such a gorgeous savoury delight .My husband opted for the house Burger,very generous portion ,nicely presented & tasted great .No room for Desert this time but we certainly enjoyed the meal.The Restaurant is very smart,love the Decor,ample car parking & the Customer Service very welcoming.Thankyou.

We ate Christmas Day lunch which was lovely. The waiting staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was lovely.

Been to this pub twice in the last 3 weeks. First was on a Monday where they offer FREE sausage and mash. Yes it is free. However I went for the Roast cod loin on a pea risotto which was delicious. Second time I had Mussels with fries. Both delicious. Its a quirky pub with lots of memorabilia from RAF Sculthorpe which was a large air base during and after the war.

Stumbled upon the Aviator one weekend, since we have been for Sunday roast twice. The roast is cooked to perfection, perfectly presented and the most flavoured roast we have had out for a very long time. The meal was hot and the service was good. The setting is clean and a relaxed vibe. We will definitely be back.

Ordered dinner including a gluten free burger 'alternative ' so their idea of an alternative is no bun, no onion rings, and no money off, £18 pounds!!! Eventually offered £1 off for presenting a burger and chips. Fortunately the lady behind the bar, who was so embarrassed, offered a 20% discount. Other meals were only just warm and sides forgotten on one meal. Don't bother going there, they don't respond to emailed complaints. Other pubs nearby are much better. Sculthorpe Mill or Brancaster Ship. Why they can't keep a gluten free bun in the freezer is beyond me. There are so many other restaurants out there who do care, use them.

We’re made to feel welcome throughout our visit by the staff member and they really couldn’t do enough for us. We had the burger which I had had my eye on all week we have been on holiday and the ribs. Have to say the burger was one of the best I have ever had, so so tasty and it was so big I had to eat with a knife and fork as I couldn’t fit it in my mouth!! The ribs were also very tasty with loads of meat on them. Really good portion sizes and with the cost. Sadly couldn’t manage a pudding, which was a shame as I was fancying the sticky toffee pudding before I ate. Wish this pub was my local, definitely give it a go if your nearby.

Delicious Sunday roast, chilled atmosphere and unique decor. We found it by accident and had a fantastic meal!

Food was ok. My only complaint was that all of our food was just about warm, for everyone, on every course. Probably due to the fact there was one person serving the whole restaurant, taking orders, tending to the bar and taking payments. She was so busy she didn’t even have time to ask how the meals were or we would have said. Very expensive for what it was, especially considering the temperature.

Called into the Aviator this week for lunch and decided to choose the "Crispy Milk Chicken", I was so glad I did. As always the service was excellent and I did not have to wait long for the meal to arrive, I can only say it was worth it, the presentation of the meal was just wonderful, the taste unbelievable and if I had to score it out of 10 I would give it a 10, just perfection personified. I can't recommend the Aviator highly enough for atmosphere, service and quality, will most definitely go again.

The Decor has a RAF theme that looks good and is executed with knick-knacks and memorabilia placed favourably around the public area. The area is closely associated with the Royal Air Force bases of West Raynham and RAF Sculthorpe. The Aviator is situated in the small village of Sculthorpe just off of the A148 road from Kings Lynn heading out to the Norfolk Coast. Our friends had invited my wife and me to a midday dinner and we were all pleased by the attentiveness from the young man servicing us. We did not all have a starter, my wife and I did. The salted squid was good and very much mimicked other restaurant chains servings such as Prezzo. For our main meals we chose Barbecued Ribs, Cod fillet and chips, Homemade Steak and Ale pie and Sea bass. For me the Sea bass was cooked well but the presentation was a bit amateurish. The green beans served with the meal were undercooked and too al dente for me. Likewise deep fried Kale is not to my taste but I ate is anyway. My wife’s Cod was tasteless she said, and the fries tasted like frozen chips. Our friend’s Barbecued ribs were okay and he was pleased with his choice. His wife had the homemade pie and it was very overpowered by too much onion. I tasted it myself and it was awful tasting and the meat was too firm and chewy. The kale or cabbage served with her meal was almost raw, and being finely chopped was hard to distinguish what green vegetable it actually was? In summery the experience was let down by the meal. My advice to the chef would be, check your technique and taste what you produce? Unfortunately we as a group will not be frequenting this establishment again. Get some in house feedback because not once were we asked if we were satisfied with the meal and service. We did not leave a gratuity.

Our review search for a.good reataurant in the Fakenham area didnt fail us. Meeting Norfolk family with a 15 month baby is never an easy task. We werent dissapointed. Thanks to front of house for taking care of us and thank you kitchen staff for our delicious meals. Nothing was too much for them. Decor is set around the airforce. But even a knarly old matelot would be happy here.

Although we are frequent visitors to North Norfolk, this was our first visit to the Aviator. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pub is very dog friendly. The food was well prepared and there was some imagination shown in the menu options. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning

Visited the Aviator for the first time to take my mum out for her birthday and have to say the staff were fantastic, really friendly and welcoming. The food was on another level, it was all delicious with a great selection of options to choose from. My thanks to the chef for making such nice tasting food and making the whole experience really amazing.

A quick stop for lunch today. Not been here before but will definitely go again when in the area. Lovely pint of Inchs cider, and the food I had was fantastic, Game & Cranberry pie. excellent service and very reasonably priced. A solid 10/10 highly recommended 👌

Modern setting with a history of the RAF/Planes from WWII... Comfortable and airy. Simple but effective. Service was good, attentive young man. Menu was one-of-those "ooh...what do I choose?????" as all the dishes looked wonderful. One guest had the seafood crumble, one had the house burger and I went for the lamb. We didn't have to wait long before our food was served to us. Mine (the lamb) came with roast potatoes carrot, parsnip and a wonderful red cabbage and a lovely gravy!! and a large piece of lamb (on the bone).This was tender and fell away from the bone. My guest were equally impressed with their meals. One guest commentated that it was the nicest meal she'd had!! and wants to come back again....Might have to wait until her birthday!!. The puddings were just as delicious. Both guests had sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream..I went for the ginger and lime cheese cake. Followed by coffee for all three of us. A very definite "want to come back to again" dinning experience.

I went to the Aviator today, 28.3.23, sadly, for a Wake. What a wonderful place to cheer people up after a funeral! Lovely staff, great fresh food and a very welcoming atmosphere. My wife and I will definitely head out from Norwich to visit the Aviator again!

First time here and really loved it. Cosy interior, waiter was so warm and welcoming and the food delicious! Will be back!

Front of house staff were friendly and on hand if needed. The food, a mix of chicken breast and tagliatelle suffered as the chicken was overcooked and therefore tough to cut and chew and the tagliatelle was undercooked. Al dente is fine but 75% cooked needs an extra 2 minutes. Not a good overall experience.

Nicely decorated bar & restaurant with kind friendly staff will leave a good first impression. My partner & I both had the Sunday roast and to be honest we’re left disappointed. The pork was gorgeous, but the beef was chewy, the potatoes undercooked I was waiting for more vegetables to turn up, which they didn’t. I won’t say I won’t eat there again, but o won’t have a roast.

We've been staying at a beautiful cottage just a stones throw away from the Aviator all this week. We've eaten there 3 times and the food is lovely, as are the staff (Kyle deserves a special mention, he's a star!) And the pub is very nicely decorated with Aviator memorabilia. A very friendly, welcoming atmosphere 🙂 We will return! 😁

All lovely, just wanted a bit more menu choice. I made the mistake of reading an out of date take away menu online. The young man who served us could not have been any more obliging. The wheelchair access , and table height, perfect. Thankyou.

My husband and I went for Sunday lunch. My beef was tough as old boots and my husband's chicken was very dry. The vegetables were hard, the gravy watery and tasteless. The staff were more interested in standing around talking to one another than serving customers. We were offered a free desert but declined. By far the worst meal we've had out in a very long time. A much looked forward to treat that turned out to be a complete waste of money. We won't be going back to The Aviator that's for sure.

Great place. Lovely atmosphere and superb food. Service was attentive but not pushy. Could not find fault with our experience. Here on holiday and plan to return before we head home.

It was awesome. We had a smalltalk Baby with us and made some mess, but they were super friendly. Food was delicious and the pork belly melted on the tounge. Please try the "Stick Tuffy pudding". It was a mix of hot chocolate cake and Werthers Originals. Thanks again guys!

Booked for six people on our last day in Norfolk. Three generations and we all had something different. Salmon, chicken, pork, steak, brisket and a children's pork belly. I had smoked brisket and it was not only delicious but also a very generous portion. Everyone enjoyed their meals, the staff are friendly and efficient. All in all good value for a quality experience. I would certainly recommend and return if in the area. Thank you!

Friendly welcome and a small range of local beers on tap. Stopped by for a couple of beers to accompany an evening stroll in Sculthorpe. Others were eating, but we didn't, so can't really comment on the food. Looked good though.

Lovely service, terrible food! Ordered the special steak medium rare - one of the driest steaks I’ve ever had! Then it was surrounded by deep fried potatoes and onions. Luckily my toddler’s food was ok. Would not recommend, especially as there are lots of others quality places to try. Nice of the Aviator to reply but that wasn’t the plate I returned back to the kitchen which still had half the steak, onion rings, chips, tomato and half the mushroom. My kid ate the peas so they won’t on the plate on return. Shame - it could have been a good meal!
