Cafe Main in North Norfolk

Called into Cafe Main today for lunch. Friendly staff, good service and great crab sandwiches. Highly recommended. Food was fairly priced and well presented.

After reading the reviews tried breakfast. Honestly don't know what the fuss is about overpriced and pretty tasteless. The atmosphere is awful inside perhaps that's why most are huddled on the outside seats. Really wouldn't recommend

Visited Cromer and came across this cafe we popped in and had a bacon roll and a bap with tea The staff were busy but had plenty of time for us also the manager or owner unsure which was very welcoming highly recommend

I had read good reviews about this place so chose it for a crab sandwich. It was very mediocre, the bread was dry and just average sliced. I expected better for £11. Disappointed

This café was suggested by a local lady in the sweet shop around the corner, and boy were we glad we went there for our lunch!! I really wanted a decent crab sandwich and a coffee and I was not disappointed; a decent amount of filling of fresh brown and white crab on thick fresh bread, and the coffee and homemade cake..... well.... everyone was very happy with this meal in a quite unassuming little café. The staff were friendly and obliging too. Would definitely recommend.

On a lovely sunny day we decided to return for lunch. The menu is great for all as so much to choose from. The members of staff a very welcoming and the food is great. Just to mention thanks for the brown sauce as a takeout.

This is a lovely little café with friendly staff. The food was fabulous - we ordered a Cromer crab sandwich which had crisps and salad on the side. My partner had hot chocolate and I had an Americano. You can't visit Cromer without trying some fresh Cromer crab.

A feel good friendly place to eat. My wife and I visited for a coffee and decided to have something to eat. My wife chose crab sandwiches which are caught locally and I decided on a cheese and ham panini as I'm not a fan of crab. My wife offered me a bite of her sandwich and wow I'm a convert of Cromer crab sandwiches. They were amazing and had so much flavour. The owner came out and asked if all was ok. My wife explained that I wasn't a fan of crab until I had a bite of her sandwich. I explained that my experience of crab was as crab sticks when she informed me that actually there is no crab in crab sticks. We will be returning in the next couple of days and I will definitely be having the crab sandwiches. I should say that they do breakfast and many other meals. Well worth a visit and so helpful. I have used this place for coffee a few times, it was ok. Today I decided to try some lunch, big mistake! I had steak pie, mash and beans. The pie was a full 8 ish centimetre in diameter, less in the filled part, it was well below what a cheap pie should be. Not a lot of meat and little taste. The mash was rubbery, tasted of butter and the portion was around 4-5 ounces. Beans were hot but definitely did not taste like the nations favourite brand. OK, a cheap cafe meal, but this child’s portion cost over £15. I will not be visiting again. I have given two stars for the polite and friendly staff.

A return visit after 8 years since our last Norfolk trip. This cafe is as brilliant as ever. Delicious hot choc and we enjoyed a cheese and onion toastie. Proper home made food, plentiful, hot and fresh. Service second to none. Thank you for a lovely visit. To anyone reading, this is a great place for a hot drink and beat breakfasts and lunches too, as well as a snack. It will be worth it when you are have a pootle around Cromer 🤤

Had a dreadful sausage roll which they heated in a microwave and it was like eating a lump of fat. I swapped it for a cheese scone which crumbled into tiny pieces and was impossible to butter because the butter was rock hard. We sat inside but it was very cold with the door propped open. Wouldn’t go there again.

Looked around Cromer for a bite to eat after spending ages beach larking. Went to a couple of other cafes closer to the beach at first but either the menus were.. questionable or the service looked slow. ended up here and I won’t go anywhere else. The prices reflect the quantity and quality. Really recommend it. I’ll be back soon. - worth a shout out, the staff are lovely also!

Cafe Main in Cromer offers such a variety of different foods, for different dietry requirements eg: gluten free; vegan; dairy free. Everything from an english breakfast; to jacket potatoes, scones, sausage and chips; scrummy cakes etc etc. Maxine and Mark who own cafe Main are lovely, friendly hosts as are all their current staff. Fiona and Greg are particularly lovely and always offer a kind word. Had a lovely birthday lunch there today, catering for my vegan, gluten free son too. Thankyou.

Came to Cromer for the day and visited this little cafe with my family. There was plenty of areas to sit inside and out. They also could provide a high chair for my 1 year old. There was a large selection of foods hot and cold. We all had paninis which was priced £7.90 -£8.25. These came with a few chrisp and small side salad. My little 1 had a kids sausage and chips. I thought this was little pricey for the size £6.(25/50) although she did enjoy it. All the food was very tasty and nice. The staff were really friendly and welcoming.

We visited this cafe whilst on holiday, we went here because they were open early and needed some breakfast as we're going out for the day however I would rather have waited for the cafe we had been using regularly to open!!!! We ordered a bacon sandwich and two large breakfasts one without beans the bacon sandwich came at least 15minutes if not longer before the rest of the food and then both breakfasts arrived with beans we said we had asked with one without at which point I was asked if I was allergic which I'm not I just hate them. He then returned breakfast on a different plate without beans however you could see the other stuff had just been moved onto the clean plate as when I lifted the egg and bacon I still found some beans under there. Will not be returning

A beautiful breakfast and panini's, bacon and brie, cranberry! Expertly cooked, fresh lovely tea and coffee. Been coming here over 10 years. A must visit, friendly staff and consistently excellent food cooked by Maxine, Very reasonable prices for the quality 😀

Visited here Thursday 23rd June 2023 for lunch. Was busy but managed a seat inside out of the heat. Extensive menu. Wife had a quiche with salad and it was too much food.I had sausage egg and chips, all ok but the eggs were hard and not runny as preferred. prices were ok as was service

Had wanted to have Cromer crab for a while, and we weren’t disappointed here. I had a gluten free jacket potato with crab, and my wife had the granary crab sandwich, which was huge. Plenty of gluten-free options, as can be seen on the attached menu photo. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Prices reasonable too. Well worth a visit.

Popped in for a cuppa and decided to indulge in some Victoria sponge too. Lovely cuppa and cake was very also very good. Seemed a very popular place and had quite a few options for drinks & cakes.

Stopped for a quick bite to sit and eat. Good menu with plenty of choice. The panini was accompanied by a tiny salad and six crisps so a little lacking in substance. Otherwise tasty. The other dishes ordered were also a little sparse with the salad and crisps, more a garnish than a helping.

I have stopped here a couple of times for breakfast and on both occasions the food has been great and the staff friendly.

Small and cosy little café, staff friendly and welcoming too. We ordered a couple of baguettes and soft drinks and the baguettes were delicious! Will definitely return.

First visit - dont know how we have not been before. We had a lovely welcome here on a rainy lunchtime. Little dog welcomed too. Service was superb and huge menu - something for everyone - and what we had was homemade and very tasty. We visited this cafe in 2017 and the food back then was fantastic. It's all different staff in there now except for the owners. The food was ok but the staff were not very customer focused and the baked beans could of been warmer.

We visited Cafe Main back in August 2020. It was a beautiful sunny day and we’d been exploring Cromer and nearby Sheringham. We happened to stumble upon this lovely place and were seated outside. I opted for the homemade ham, leek and cheese quiche which came with salad, new potatoes and coleslaw. It was the best quiche I have ever had! I often wonder if it would be too extreme to drive the 2.5 hours just for the meal I had that day... maybe it was the sea air or the sunshine but it was THAT delicious! The only downside was that my partner asked for a cheese, ham and tomato baguette but they’d sold out so had a panini instead. He definitely enjoyed it. I only had water so can’t comment on the drinks but my partner had a mocha which he said was tasty. A great place to rest your legs after a morning of exploring. Can’t wait to return!

My girlfriend and I visited Cafe Main during the midweek lunchtime rush. Dined at an inside table, away from the seaside breeze. Pleased to see screens up, between the tables. I had a crab sandwich on granary bread. £8.95 was a reasonable price to pay, considering how generous the helping of fresh crab was. Delicious. The brie and cranberry sandwich was very good too.

We were in the area on holiday for a week. My husband was diagnosed with coeliac disease in November last year. We usually struggle to find eateries that do gluten free options. Quite often when we do he is limited to just cake. This excellent establishment has many options and we can vouch for their all day breakfasts being great. Large portions too so not left feeling hungry two hours later. In fact we were full for the rest of the day ( apart from squeezing the odd ice cream when out and about) We can gladly recommend this cafe especially during covid when it would be understandable if they had limited their menu.

Popped in on her off chance for some breakfast. Received a very warm welcome and shown to our seats. Good COVID measures in place and asked to sign Track & Trace register. Very generous portion sizes and food hot and tasty. Heard a few other customers when coming in having special requests when ordering their food and nothing was too much trouble for them. If ever in Cromer again would definitely return.

Nice and clean with a very nice breakfast. Covid rules were being observed and although the cafe is small at no time did I feel that people were too close to me. Staff were pleasant and obliging and food was about the right price for the area. If we are in Cromer we shall use this place again.

Don’t be put off by the ordinary looks and the high street location with the cars passing by. The smarter looking spots in the side streets will all be full. This cafe does a very decent fresh crab sandwich with good bread, and the service was polite and friendly too.

Visited Cafe Main a good while ago and had to comment on the attitude of the Owner. Visited yesterday and are happy to say that the experience was very different and very good. Place was very busy but all of the staff including the owner were working hard to meet everyone's requirements. Even caught a smile and a joke from them. Seating outside but we requested and were found a table inside, drinks came promptly and food after an acceptable wait. The preparation area was very busy and of course the Bill was very acceptable as Cafe Main was taking part in the government's Monday to Wednesday reduced prices scheme.Very happy to see them up and running again as the Lockdown has eased a little.

Excellent host and excellent food. We specifically wanted fresh Cromer crab. We enjoyed their sandwiches very much and would recommend anyone to eat there.

I have seen other reviews that have not rated this cafe well. I cannot agree. The food was good and inexpensive. They went out of their way to accommodate a GF request. The staff were friendly and helpful. The owner is friendly and helpful. I don’t see a problem at all. Social distancing and Covid observance is in place. The food was nice and we were not rushed to get out. Would recommend. Who cares about Costa?

What a shame this place is run by such a loser the hygene is not what it should be the food leaves a lot to be desired but getting back to the said owner what does he think he's going to achieve by staring at Costa across the road ? He needs to concentrate on his own business first before trying to make costa dissappear by not blinking !!!!!!

We popped into this café for a quick snack, and ordered soup with a baguette, The food took ages to arrive, and during the time spent waiting for our lunch the owner/manager spent all the time walking up and down talking very loudly on his mobile phone. not very professional.

Visited Cafe Main today and had super meal served by friendly staff but spoiled by owners attitude. He forgot to order our drinks as he was on his mobile phone constantly. He received bad news over his phone and used the'F' word out loud. He was asked by an elderly customer where the toilets were and vaguely pointed to the ceiling and said 'upstairs'. Clearly that question interrupted his constant phone calls. Then he sat with other customers. Thank goodness Cafe Main's food is superb and served by his two young staff. For what he did when we were there it would have been better if he hadn't attended today.

Used to visit regularly, owners wife and son really friendly but owner is a grumpy man. Heard him a few times making derogatory remarks about customers after they've left. He should remember they are his profit and livelihood.

In my opinion this Cafe doesn't offer the best Breakfast in Norfolk it is the best Breakfast in the country Locally sourced ingredients well cooked and pleasantly served

Called in on a cold and windy afternoon and received a warm welcome from friendly staff. Drinks were reasonably priced and coffee tasted good. Excellent selection of cakes and other hot and cold food on the menu. Definitely on my recommended list.

We visited for brunch-gluten free was good but hubby unhappy. Too small plate running with grease and tough sausages. Picture shows how much he left. Also electrics went after we had ordered which meant we waited about 45 minutes for food with no explanation and no offer off topped up drinks whilst waiting....we had to buy more drinks! Nice people but could refine the quality of serving the food-oh and buy bigger plates for the big breakfasts!

We visited here, recently, and were bowled over by the welcome from the friendly and efficient staff. They couldn't have been more helpful, and made a big fuss of our Black Labrador: Tilly, even bringing her a sausage on a plate!We chose to sit outside, and there were blankets on hand to wrap ourselves up in. The hot chocolate was delicious and, whilst we did not sample the food, it all looked very tempting.Highly recommended.

We were recommended Cafe Main by some other dog lovers. We had good seats and ample time to choose from a great menu. We don’t have any particular dietary needs but if we did we would have been well catered for in regards vegan or gluten free options. We all tried something different each and we were served quickly, the portion sizes were generous. We would definitely return if visiting Cromer again. Highly recommend

After walking all around Cromer today looking for somewhere to eat that could cater for my two autistic teenage sons (somewhere that didn't smell strongly of cooking, wasn't noisy, with friendly staff that could adapt their menu to cater for my sons'tastes) we stumbled across this little gem of a cafe. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a lovely lady and when I explained my situation to her she couldn't have been more helpful. She adapted meals for my sons, made them feel welcome and not awkward and checked and double checked my order before serving it to ensure that neither of my sons were upset about anything unwanted being on their plates. The same care and attention was put into their drinks. Meal times can be our worst nightmare, but the whole family managed a lovely relaxing lunch in a calm, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The fresh home made food was all really lovely and the staff were amazing. Thank you so much. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

We are vegan and have a dog. So very difficult to find somewhere to eat. Not a problem. They made us very welcome. We had vegan pie and chips and the dog was fussed over. Lovely friendly team running it. Worth a visit.

We stopped here for a pit stop while exploring the area and we were delighted with the delicious sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks. What made this place memorable for us was the friendly staff who on hearing our accents were interested enough to enquire if we were on holiday and wanted to know if we were having a good time.

I find it difficult to imagine that the staff of this cafe would be anything other than friendly and helpful, that's certainly the impression we were given whilst in Cromer. Nice coffee at a fair price and would use agin when in the area.

As a couple we popped in to the Cafe Main for a coffee. It was good value and freshly served. It is not the most ambient of atmospheres but it did the job. Would use again when in Cromer.

If you can muster the courage to walk past the owner, arms folded, frown on face guarding the door, then the food offering is quite good. But staff seem determined to be looking miserable. Especially the serving lady with glasses and pony tail. There’s a young man there, on coffees when I went, who is charming. Smiling, helpful and polite. He should be in charge of customer service and train the rest! No point having a reasonable product guys if you spoil it with attitude.

We had to take our 2 dogs with us to Norfolk recently so always looked for Dog friendly places to stop at. We came across Cafe Main when we visited Cromer and popped in for a cup of tea. The staff directed us to the conservatory, which was quieter and immediately, without us asking, they brought us a bowl of water for our dogs and then a number of the staff came over to make a fuss of Frank and Betty (our dogs). Many thanks to the staff for being so friendly and helpful. The Coffee was also great.

Cafe Main is the place I head to when in Cromer..The Owners are always pleasant and will chat to you..The food is excellent and generous portions each time I have visited this establishment..The premises are always spotless..I would recommend this cafe to everyone who visits Cromer.

Firstly let me explain the title to this review then the staff who served us will remember our visit.

I went to the Cafe Main today with my partner and 2 children and we had cappuccinos and cake. When I asked for a tap water they asked me for 50p, this was the first time EVER I have been asked to pay for water and felt that it was outrageous to charge us. I refused to pay and the water was taken away (probably poured down the sink). On a hot summers day, to refuse paying customers with children, a glass of tap water is unacceptable customer service.

We visited today (Saturday 27th July 2019) for lunch. We sat down at the front of the cafe, ordered and received our food and drinks which were all nice but unfortunately as the coffee machine is situated in the seating area we had to endure the banging and crashing of the male that operated the coffee machine together with the dishwasher also situated in the front of the cafe next to the seating area with the banging and crashing of crockery etc being loaded and emptied to the point where we couldn't hear ourselves speak to each other. We will look for somewhere else to have a relaxing and quiet lunch next time.

Our first visit to this cafe, really nice friendly service , ordered the veg quiche was the best I have had also the prawn jacket good potions freshly made to order , outside and garden seating also available ...well worth a visit....

I love this place I came in every day since I lost my partner 7 weeks ago I meet some friends, and the staff have been so good to me I would recommend this lovely little place, and you can sit out side with yr dog or out the back.

Crab sandwich was tasty but other meals were poor value - portions small for price charged. One pie had to be sent back as it was cold in the centre. One portion of chips was forgotten and was served after other food.

We had lunch here. The cafe was clean and the staff very friendly. Service was quick and there was a good choice of food including gluten free. The only reason we did not give 5 stars was because we thought everything was a little too expensive.

So glad I found this café! Huge range of GF options, many made on the premises in dedicated GF areas. Eat in the café, little conservatory, or take away. All staff confident about catering for Coeliac requirements and can offer GF spreads, sauces, etc as standard.

We called in here for lunch over the bank holiday weekend, having decided last minute to go to Cromer as we hadn't been before. Trying to avoid chain coffee shops, we found Café Main had a table free. There is a good choice of food, we had cheese scones which were excellent, and a pancake for our son, one soft drink and two coffees which were good. The breakfasts and main meals which were coming out also looked very nice. Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating when we asked for something slightly different to the menu, and service was quick. Would definitely return.
