The best restaurants in Mid Suffolk East of England

Very sorry to say our meal was mediocre, which is a shame as I would love to support this community local pub. I felt the menu choices were fairly limited, the only main special was the pie - roast pork and leek, which I thought an odd combo for a pie. I had the chicken burger - the bread was that floppy cheap sort of roll that comes ready cut, the burger was just OK, nothing special. The service was very good however, no complaints there. Maybe we just hit a bad night.

Wow. Waited for hours. Kept calling to check and the food was always “just on its way now”. Gave up on 2+ hours.

Stuck in an accident on the A12 led us to an impromptu stop at The Highwayman and we were really pleased we did. We received a warm and friendly welcome and an excellent lunch. It’s an interesting building too.

Had the most wonderful lunch today at the Fox and Hounds Thurston in their Old Stables restaurant to celebrate our friend’s 50th birthday. The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly. A cosy and welcoming atmosphere for a group of 25 . Will definitely be visiting again.

I am really quite disappointed by standards of the mandarin, went in and ordered two pots of satay sauce… waiting area filthy no one there to take an order for a start. Overall condition of the building is poor, rubbish flowing out of bins and mess everywhere in the car park. When I got home I pulled out a lovey hair out of my satay sauce short and black which couldn’t of possibly been mine as I don’t have black hair… explains the 1 star food hygiene rating on both of there surprise EHO visits, in most recent years. also explains why they are really quick to shut the kitchen door and ensure it’s kept shut at all times, I’ve even heard one of the chefs shout once to shut the door. Really disappointed and will go else where from now on you guys have really let your standards slip… sad really maybe it should be turned back into a pub.

We were unhappy at having to wait an hour for our meals last night and received a public dressing down from the chef when we said so. Readers may be pleased to know that food is cooked from scratch but this is not made clear anywhere on the menu or by the waitress when ordering. This place describes itself as a pub, not a fine-dining restaurant. Being publicly humiliated spoiled our experience of the food and we won't be going there again.

Lovely freshly cooked wholesome British food, with some interesting twists on the specials board, more than just pub grub. I had steak, tomato and almond pie, mashed potato, carrots, cabbage and green beans followed by damson Panna cotte

This was our second visit to this beautiful pub and once again it didn’t disappoint. Lovely friendly staff, a cosy environment and delicious food. Can’t wait to come back.

Great place to go and the kindest staff there, best drinks and snacks ever and the outdoors part is the best to let your kids run around.

Awesome village pub, chilled atmosphere and lovely owners! Lush vegetarian choice. My partner loves his meat and really enjoys the menu here. Martin and Claire go above and beyond.

Popped in on the off-chance of getting a gluten free meal. After checking we got a table with a menu with quite a few gf options annotated on the menu. Had battered prawns with a cajun dip which the wife enjoyed. I had the chicken skewer not gf but very nice. Staff very friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced and close to where we were staying.

This is great traditional pub. Foods excellent and we're always made to feel welcome even with our scooters.

I’ve recently moved to Rickinghall & had the great pleasure of enjoying my first fish & chips a few weeks ago which was excellent except unfortunately my cod was missing from my order which is why I’ve only given 4 stars & I didn’t realise until I’d got home 🙈thankfully my husband had ordered a large cod so we could share but thought I better let you know. It certainly won’t stop me from visiting again😜

Staff very pleasant but vegetables very under cooked, and floppy yorkshire puds Such a shame because normally very good.
