Great place to go and the kindest staff there, best drinks and snacks ever and the outdoors part is the best to let your kids run around.

Spoiler: We have a dog. We like to walk. We like to eat great food in a relaxed environment. Cue: the Brewers. It's a lovely location in a lovely village, surrounded by great footpaths and with a magnificent church. But it's also a pub restaurant that aims to serve stylish, punchy food without too much pretension. And that's what it does. We often say a quick hello to Emma or Jess behind the bar, and tell then we're heading for a walk with Molly but will be back in an hour or so. We return to a magnificent table in the garden, attentive service, and some seriously good cooking. We like menus that provide a small range of starters, main courses and puddings. That's what the Brewers does. And all were excellent. They are served with an understated hospitality that makes going here so special. Whether indoors or outdoors, the Brewers is a place to know.

We had dinner here and enjoyed every course. Particularly loved the arancini starter and pork belly main. Often, dessert is a slightly poor relation at top eating places, but not at the Brewers - it was as delicious and imaginative as the other courses. Service was attentive but not intrusive. We'll definitely come back!

My wife and I were given a voucher for this pub by our children and grandchildren as part of the gifts we received to celebrate our 60th Wedding Anniversary and it was made perfectly clear to the pub that this was the purpose of our visit. We chose to take Sunday lunch here as we quite liked the menu choices on offer. First off we found that parking here can be a tad tight, although we did manage to find the last space close to the pub. The building is 16th century apparently, with an interesting interior, parts of which were a bakery back in the day. Atmosphere we would describe as 'neutral' - nothing particularly special. The young staff were welcoming and we found during our stay that they were also attentive and helpful - kudos to them. For starters we settled on whitebait for me and salmon for my wife. The whitebait was excellent and probably amongst one of the best of this style of dish that I have experienced. For mains we had already decided on the chateaubriand, which carries a supplement of £20 NOT the £5 per person as shown on the pub's online menu! This dish comes with parmesan fries and peppercorn sauce and, once again, NOT with onion rings as claimed on their online menu. So only one vegetable included - if you want any more it will cost you £4.50 for EACH (small) dish you select. We selected cauliflower cheese. The chateaubriand was presented neatly sliced, as you would expect, but with no garnish of any sort, strangely. It was very tender, pleasant enough taste, BUT it was tepid not hot. At this point there were no staff around, presumably dealing with other customers elsewhere, and my wife did not want me to make a fuss on our special day, so I did not raise the matter. One other point in relation to the meal that we found extremely parsimonious, was the fact that the pub only provides ONE slice of bread for each person. We asked for an extra slice and we were charged £1.25 each for the privilege. Given the prices this pub charges for its meals I would have expected a basket of fresh rolls, as a minimum! Our total bill, for 2 courses, including 2 cocktails and not forgetting £2.50 for 2 slices of bread, came to £119 - not an inconsequential sum for a fairly mundane Sunday lunch. However, the icing on the cake, given that this was a Diamond Wedding Anniversary celebratory meal, was that the pub was so lacking in customer service and care that it did not even offer us a complementary cup of coffee! We will not be returning. NB The wine list is hideously expensive - there may be some fine wines in there, but I would expect tastings and a sommelier to serve the libations!

Delicious food, well executed and imaginatively presented. But, this should be expected from a rather pricey venue. Both classics and more modern dishes. Starters (chicken parfait and beef carpaccio) slightly on the small side. Main courses and desserts just right. Good breads & butter and a good range of drinks and wines. Oddly the coffee was served before the desserts. (timing hiccup?) The building is attractive and warmly furnished and decorated. Staff friendly and efficient. Plenty of public parking around the building. The Brewers is a find!

Well, we go here every 6 weeks or so for lunch, and the food is pretty good. My wife booked online yesterday to make a reservation for today. Subsequently she received a call to be told their menu had changed to a "Summer Smokehouse Menu". Last night we looked at the menu online, and to be honest, it really wasn't for us. We looked to see if we could cancel online but there was no option to do so. So my wife called this morning to cancel the booking, and was told we'd get charged £10 each. No ifs no buts. We understand it's a small business, but they know us as regular customers, and you would think they'd let it lie. But no. They offered to change to a different date for no charge, but the menu is the issue! So, we'll never be back. Your loss.

Went for Sunday lunch with three good friends, incredibly expensive, and lacking atmosphere, it has gone downhill..... one slice of beef, cold, vegetables, cold, cauliflower cheese fine, and the roast potatoes... asked if there was anything else I wanted, said yes another slice of beef!.. response, that will be extra, asked if I wanted food taken back, I thought no, it would be put in microwave, ... this place is trying to be posh, but there are far better places around, and cheaper prices to get a sunday roast, or any other food.... This village pub, and that is what it is needs to do ploughmans etc for lunch and start being a proper pub for people to visit, they would make more money, look at the five bells up the road, no food but great atmosphere unlike the Brewers

We treated ourselves to lunch on our day off as a consolation for the wet end to a soggy month. My partner's band had played at the Brewers May Day BBQ and enjoyed the food. Pleased to find that his experience wasn't an isolated one. The decor is very pleasant and we enjoyed some really good local beers while we decided what we wanted to eat. The staff were lovely and the food was delicious. Pleased to see the inclusion of 500ml carafes of good wine available when a whole bottle at lunch feels too much. Faultless.

Another cracking meal at the Brewers which remains a splendid restaurant. Life story alert...we moved from london to suffolk in october and feared for our gastronomique future...but the brewers is single-handedly keeping us going...(well, along with 1921 in Bury.) The food is weirdly good for a suffolk village pub. weirdly good. Delicious warm bread greets you first and then uncomplicated but expertly executed fayre follows (cf. the steak.) I'd add that it's a really relaxed dining experience, too. Staff are lovely, it's spacious. all those good things.

What an amazing initiative and a superb evening out. We had the most delicious meal at The Brewers on Thursday evening. Students from chefswhites at Suffolk New College had been given the opportunity by owner Sheona Fraser to take over the pub and produce, under the watchful eye of Chef Matt and their tutor Dan Russell, a 7 course smokefire tasting menu. What a fantastic opportunity for these students to hone their skills in a real world situation, for paying customers. Highlights for me included a beautifully smooth and flavoursome Baba ganoush, paired with delicious smoked olives. The wild boar, mozzarella and dairy apple slider was the perfect size and melted in the mouth. With seven courses, I was not sure there would be room for pudding but the dripping donut and caramel sauce could not be resisted! This is surely the best way to help the next generation of chefs and front of house progress and it is testimony to The Brewers ethos of helping young people become along their career paths that they were generous enoght to close the pub during the day to allow the students time to be wholly immersed in the process.

The Brewers set lunch menu is extraordinary value. Three beautiful courses for £25 is just brilliant once you know the quality of the food. The menu is ever-evolving. We love that. There are usually favourites - steak, burger, fish. But then there are seasonal surprises. This time I had a seat pudding which was exquisite - full of rich flavours, delicate, immersed in a beautiful gravy. As veterans of the Brewers, we've loved seeing not just the evolution of the food (away from some of its over-foodie-obsessed predecessor chefs to something much more rooted in local produce and simple presentation. But we've loved seeing something else - the superb service by Emma and Jess, understated, attentive, personal but not intrusive. They make the journey to Rattlesden well worth making. Regulars will know that I've reviewed the Brewers before. Yesterday was our umpteenth visit. And it was utterly perfect. Thanks to all the team who make this aspirational village pub/restaurant such a treat to visit. Oh, and border terrier Molly B loves it too. She's now part of the furniture.

Have been before and thought the food and service was very good. Today, it was very, very disappointing. Waited over an hour for the first course - had to chase. There was a wait for the second course. The main dish was lukewarm and the side dish of tenderstem broccoli was cold (and at £4.50 for 4 stems was taking small portions to the limit!). We had explained that my husband was on a low salt diet, yet the butter turned up covered in salt crystals. They replaced it and then the chips turned up covered in salt crystals as well (and cold!). We could not face the stress of waiting for a dessert! I made the complaint and I was given a lukewarm apology and 10% of the bill of £66 which almost added insult to injury. There was no customer care. My husband is disabled and eating out is an important occasion for both of us. This meal was not a pleasure, we just ended up feeling stressed and unhappy.

Visited twice now. From big smiles from the staff as we entered, to the desert it was all superb. We returned from a previous visit a month earlier with other foodie friends, when both chefs came out and explained what they did to create such great food. We live very close to some really good restaurants in Bury St Edmunds and this is better. Less pretentious. Honest food with great service at a sensible price. I’m delighted there are still good pubs out there not doing food service food.

We visited with a rather large group including some young children. The pub couldn’t have been more accommodating. We pre booked the meals, they had some choices for the little ones. They were happy with us enjoying drinks in the sunshine for a while and kept the chef updated so our meals came on time. They set aside a room just to ourselves and we’re friendly, with prompt service. The food was excellent, better than I expected (beautiful flat iron and the puddings were amazing). Can’t praise them enough and felt I had to feedback to counter some recent less positive reviews which in no way reflected our experience. Great staff, delicious food, great drinks.

What a lovely welcome as you walk through the door. The staff are such an important part of what makes this place special. The decor is very inviting, and a g&t at the bar was a great start. Loved the wine list, interesting choices, with an option to have 500ml carafe, which was perfect for us after gin! We went straight in for a roast dinner. We loved that the plating was simple and elegant, with the accompaniments in sharing bowls. The food is very accomplished and high end. The sirloin of beef was melt in the mouth, seasoned to perfection. My husband really enjoyed the pork. The jus was rich, sticky with a perfect shine. A lot of work went into that jus I'm sure. I couldn't resist a dessert, a treacle tart. There was such depth of flavour with the toasted pistachios. I did share, a little bit. What a fantastic place for couples and families. The food and service is definitely memorable.

We have become regulars at the Brewers. With their new chefs and new front-of-house team (special hat-tip to Emma), they've found a really good rhythm to what they do. The over-the-top pretentions of an earlier phase have gone. Now you get good quality food, beautifully presented, and served with unobtrusive professionalism. We go because we are particularly impressed by their set price lunch menu - three courses for £25. It's astonishingly good value. And on a sunny day, like yesterday, it's a pleasure to sit in the garden with a glass of wine, look over to the magnificent church, and feel that time has slowed to an easier pace. Our lunch yesterday was beautiful - crisp whitebait, potted shrimps, fish and chips, steak, date pudding, and blue cheese. It was the perfect summer's leisurely lunch.

Celebration of our son’s 25th & we weren’t disappointed! They’d been before but we hadn’t. Everything about this restaurant is Amazing! The welcome, service, quality of food & attention to detail were all 5*. We couldn’t fault one thing. Starting with the array of ‘Nibbles’,...

We have just had the most delicious meal at a friend’s birthday lunch in the Brewers’ Arms. The menu is so tempting and my chosen lamb sweetbreads and venison Wellington were outstanding. My husband’s meal of scallop followed by beef sirloin were equally delicious. We...

We were really disappointed by the cost compared to the food we were given. Two of us ordered scallops and we were served a ridiculous portion size. The scallops had been cut into quarters and we had 3 pieces. (Three quarters). For 4 adults and...

Went to The Brewers for dinner with a friend. The restaurant area was intimate and was great for conversation as long as you don’t mind the risk of the other tables overhearing (for clandestine meetings, go elsewhere ;-) ). We booked a table for 7.30,...

I know that I have written reviews before re. The Brewers, but went there for lunch, set menu, delicious "glazed lamb" starter followed by the best piece of "roast hake" that I have eaten, crispy skin, and succulent flesh on crushed new potatoes. Excellent!

Average food. The bacon, Brie and cranberry panini needed more than 2 slices of Brie as was dry. The coleslaw was not homemade as stated on their menu. The kids meal came with hand cooked sharp crisps when ideally should have been puffs or a safer type of crisp. Would not pay £34 again for the food we got. Very disappointing. Very much squashed in like sardines too.

Had a lovely pit stop and food was lovely and coffee superb - only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because the floor where we sat had cake crumbs on it so I couldn't put my bag down

Ordered a drink and the barista made a face turned to her colleague, who rolled their eyes and also pulled a face. When asked what the issue was, they both ignored us. This made our visit very uncomfortable and won't be visiting this cafe again.
