Bistro at the Barns in Mid Suffolk

Good cafe if you are staying at the campsite or visiting show grounds or the shopping village. Otherwise not something greatly exciting.

Service is SLOW and waited 35 minutes to be served whilst others came and went. I complained and made no difference. Don't go there unless you have all day!!!

6 of us came to eat breakfast. We pre-booked. It was busy. It took a while for our food to be ordered. One of us asked for lightly cooked toast, which didn't happen. The orange juice tasted like squash, it was disgusting. No ine came to check on us. We then had to queue for 15 minutes to pay. We were told all the staff were making drinks and no one available to take payment. The staff were inefficient and quite rude. Food was OK. Not worth the price tag tho. Won't be back!!!

This was branded as Café 24 in April. A great place for Breakfast. ( One would imagine that Lunch and Dinner would be equally as good.) Quality food, well-cooked and served. The timings between ordering and receiving your meal, excellent. Will certainly return when next in the area.

Excellent service, the manager was very accommodating and friendly staff throughout our various visits to the cafe. Would highly recommend the Sunday roast. We will be back. X

Was OK. The quality has improved over the last few years. It appears dirty to me. My friend mentioned that as well. Go for the food (yummy) but close your eyes. Staff take their breaks in the restaurant. That's not a good look for anywhere! Hence the 1 star for atmosphere.

Visited Cafe 24 at Stonham Barns for lunch with my family and was left very disappointed. My partner enjoyed her panini and the chips were decent, but that’s where the positives end. I had the 1/4 pounder cheeseburger, which was overcooked and dry—honestly, I’ve had far better burgers from roadside vans for a fraction of the price. A single bottle of Dr Pepper cost £3.35, and my son’s Nutella sandwich (with a few crisps on the side) came to nearly £6. The food is cheap quality, but the prices suggest otherwise. There was no check on allergies or dietary requirements at any point, which in this day and age is frankly unacceptable. The service overall was poor—no check-backs, staff seemed miserable, and dirty tables were left uncleared for long periods. I won’t be returning, and I’d advise others to save their money and eat elsewhere. Stonham Barns has some lovely spots, but sadly, this isn’t one of them.

5+ 🌟's all round for this Cafe! Plenty of seating inside and out and lovely long list of food and drink selection! Well priced, especially if you go for a sandwich/ bagel or wrap. Staff were very friendly and food and drinks arrived quickly! Will 1000% be going again, tops up a nice day at the Barns! Highly recommend the BLT Bagel, was absolutely sublime!!

place is nice enough, service was good but very overpriced for what i got and in no way would I believe the cafe won best cafe in Suffolk let alone england. bacon was fatty, sausages were middling at best. I will say the scones were excellent but unfortunately I wouldnt go back knowing the prices

We go here every couple of weeks and love it. Today we walked in and the staff were dancing smiling as they greeted us, great welcome. The food is awesome I always have jacket potato with chilli and double cheese the chilli is the best I've tasted to the point where the chef kindly let me have the recipe. My hubby had the bacon and brie panini which he loved. I really do recommend it 10 out of 10

Average food. The bacon, Brie and cranberry panini needed more than 2 slices of Brie as was dry. The coleslaw was not homemade as stated on their menu. The kids meal came with hand cooked sharp crisps when ideally should have been puffs or a safer type of crisp. Would not pay £34 again for the food we got. Very disappointing. Very much squashed in like sardines too.

Decent food served quickly. Quality isn't the best, but then you need to remind yourself where you are....its not a 5-star restaurant. For a stomach filler, it's well worth a visit without costing an arm or a leg

I had the pleasure of dining at Café 24 with my family yesterday on a cold Saturday with a bit of sun during the noon. Nestled within the beautiful Stonham Barns park, the restaurant offered a delightful ambiance surrounded by nature, enhancing our overall experience. They have indoor and outdoor seating so was easy and comfortable. For breakfast, we enjoyed the small English breakfast, with lattes ordered separately. The meal was satisfying, featuring baked beans, mushrooms, a perfectly fried egg, pork sausage, and bacon. We also tried the vegetarian breakfast, swapping the pork sausage for a veggie sausage, which was simply delicious! For lunch, we opted for the southern fried chicken, served with coleslaw and potato crisps. We also ordered garlic bread slices, which felt incredibly fresh. The chicken was crispy and flavourful, making it a hearty meal that the whole family enjoyed. The staff at Café 24 were professional and humble, efficiently clearing away used dishes without interrupting our meal. They were also very helpful with the ordering process, thanks to a clear and well-organized menu. Overall, Café 24 provided a wonderful dining experience with great food and a lovely atmosphere. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Stonham Barns!

Very little options for vegans or vegetarians.. staff had no idea of dietary requirements.. paid an awful amount of money for a cheese and apple panini.. took two bites and sent it back, absolutely abhorrant. Groups of people were coming in after us, and they were still served first. I asked if they can just make a cheese panini.. to which they said no as it’s all pre-packaged.. so not fresh ingredients.. Disappointing service, to pay almost £45 for my family to all be disappointed with the food. Will not be returning.

This has changed hands since we were last there. Sandwiches now made with 'doorstep' slices which made them heavy going. No more pots of tea either. Just mugs with a tea bag 😔 😟

Wonderfully quaint cafe, set amidst various lovely little shops. The breakfast was genuinely one of the best I have had in my life, and was extremely reasonably priced given the quality. Lovely location whether you’re a single, couple, or young family. Would definitely recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stopped by for lunch and very impressed with the quality of our sandwiches and the presentation. When seated, we were told of a 20min wait for food, but this was not a problem for us and it ended up being less than half this time. They catered to hubby's dietary needs, and when the wrong sandwich was brought out for me, I received a sincere apology and they fixed it very quickly. The meal was a very good quality and I will be very happy to eat here next time we visit.

Popped in after visiting the owl sanctuary. I went for the fish cakes and poached egg special which was a lot bigger than expected and very nice for £10. My wife had the chilli jacket potato and was also happy. Prices are reasonable and food was good 🙂

Ordered 2 panini ..one with bacon which was fine..the other was sausage and cheese ..the sausages were disgusting cheap rubbish while all around us the people who had ordered a sausage sandwich or brunch had what looked like quality sausages ..I enquired as to the reason for this and apparently it's the panini machines fault because it's the only sausages that fit in it..also tiny amount of cheese and even less chutney.. 45 minutes for essentially 2 sandwiches..while all around us people who had ordered a roast or brunch got there food in 15 minutes..needless to say I won't be rushing back ...

Recently, l had a nice veggie nut roast lunch here. The service and food were both good, and l would recommend coming.

We stayed at the caravan park here and tried their breakfasts and coffees etc. Very friendly staff, dog welcome and food plentiful and delicious 😋 my only downside is it's quite a trek to the loos !

There were four of us and the food was awful. The coleslaw was really cheap rubbish. The rest of the meal wasn't much better. Will not go again. Waste of nearly £40

The food here won’t disappoint, visited on many occasions and yet to find a complaint about the food. I do always go for vegetarian option though! The service is ok, some of the staff definitely aren’t the smiliest of people. Also lots to do while visiting Stonham barns! Some unique shops :)

A nice lunch or breakfast area for anyone visiting the unique community of small specialty businesses. There's so much to see in the area, a lunch or coffee break at this cafe is well worth it. The Sunday roast is apparently well recommended by my partner, cheap but has a lot to offer. There are other options of course, but that's something to discover the next time I'll be worth visiting.

Recently visited and both hubby & I had just a sandwich and drink. When hubbys tuna sandwich came out he ate the side salad & crisps before noticeing a random fish bone on top of his bread!? Like a small raw fish bone. Spoke to waitress who was polite and took sandwich away. Hubby decided he didnt want anything else. They did apologise and took 10% off the bill. How did a random fish bone get there in the first place tho??

We visited the cafe24 for lunchtime meal with my family I had southern fried chicken in a wrap as did my daughter-in-law my husband had hunters chicken said it was lovely my son had mozzarella and veggies in a wrap said it was nice you get alot of food for the price so we we're really happy 😊

Have popped in here several times for lunch, when visiting the Owl Sanctuary and a bit of shopping. Have always found the staff to be pleasant, the food reasonably priced, freshly prepared and tasty. Would not hesitate to return, when next in the area.

Visited Stonham Barns with our grandchildren and had a hot lunch in Café 24. Staff friendly and welcoming, food hot and served quickly. Children's meal was more than adequate for them. Overall a great experience.

Very busy place to eat. Better off booking for busiest times. Food is terrific and the staff are all very accommodating and friendly. Have eaten here often.

The food just spoils the place. Especially the chips are most horrible things we ever ate. They are too big, from frozen with taste of the freezer on them. The meat in the burgers is also bad. Nothing from local fresh farm produce, just frozen tasteless. We don't recommend.

Visited café 24 today with my 19 month old son who has allergies , I’m always apprehensive about taking him out to eat at new places but the staff and chef were amazing , showing me all the ingredients in the foods and Reassuring me that it’s safe for him to eat . 10/10 for that

Had the overall experience been better I wouldn't have thought to leave a review. Staff lacked manners tables to closely put together and grubby I had the brunch with beans from the bottom of the pan unedable ! chips cold and had an unusual taste the eggs were solid and accompanied with a luke warm drink A shame as a nice complex of independent businesses let down by the food venue

It is with regret to say the lunch booking we made was a sheer disappointment as the Sunday Pork roasts that we ordered were found to be barely edible with a pungent aroma on the (pork strips which were not a Pork roast, on leaving I raised my dissatisfaction with the waitress ,whose sheepish apologies were the final insult. The food quality is poorly presented, not worth the visit in future.. we certainly will avoid.

Had the Full English on a table of 6 adults and 3 children. Mind you weight watching isn't synonymous with me luckily 😉 but menu's good with alternative plant based options. Food was served early, approximately 15-30mins wait time which was great. The service was great, waitress was smiley and accommodating (joined 2 tables to seat our group). Food was great and the children loved the ice cream- that ask me why 😀.. Very nice place and atmosphere. It's moderately priced too. Meal for 7 came to about £75 which is acceptable I think. Would I eat here again? Oh yes I would!

Service was brilliant - they were really accommodating of our dog even though they had some refurbishment ongoing. Food was decent, good value and arrived quickly.

Sausages tasted like grissel and bounced like a bouncy ball. You may find the smoked bacon too salty. Tables were closely packed. Tomato and hash brown were acceptable.

Lovely little cafe nestled away in Stonham Barns. Food we had was great and served quickly. Non alcoholic cider available for drivers too so that's a bonus point from me

On the 21/08/23 I was taking my dad to see the owls as a treat for his 90th birthday. I rang the cafe in the morning and asked if I could bring a birthday cake for him which we could have when we had meal. The gentleman I spoke to said it would be fine. When I arrived I popped into the cafe and they kindly took the cake to keep it in the cool. We then spent time in the owl sanctuary before going to the cafe for lunch where the staff had reserved a table for us. At the end of the meal all the staff came out of the kitchen area with the cake and candles lit whilst singing Happy Birthday. My dad was so taken aback. I can on thank the staff for making my Dads day.

Gone really downhill recently. Where do I begin. Firstly, I go to the counter and ask to have two tap waters, a jacket potato with beans and then half chicken and half beef with the roast dinner and to have no yorkshire pudding. Out it comes with a yorkshire pudding which looks burnt and the rest isn't much better. I check my receipt and guess what, I've been overcharged so I ask the waitress and she lies to my face saying that you pay extra to have meat with the roast dinners. This is definitely not true and is not on the menu and I was not informed (see photos). So I write to the owner explaining the situation and how their staff acted towards me and I am not happy with the responses at all. In fact it just annoyed me even more. In summary, I wasn't listened to, I got ripped off, I got lied to, I got a bad meal and to top it off, when I try to explain things to the owner about what has happened, and I even show the photos that you see here with the proof - they still insist that I wasn't overcharged and they make no apology. Do they think that this is acceptable because I don't

Have never been to Stonham Barns before and we only live 30 minutes away. Met someone in the car park who had obviously been before and he recommended the bistro. We had a jacket potato with cheese and a roast pork dinner. I cannot recommend the roast dinner enough, the yorkshires were beautiful - just the way I like them. Service was excellent and at £9.95 for a roast dinner and absolute bargain. Will definitely make the trip again just for the roast dinner.

Stopped off for breakfast on our way back from a over night theatre trip in Ipswich. Decided to have the full English,it was lovely. One downfall,tea was a bag in a mug,Don,t mind a mug,but teabag in hot water is a no no for me. Music rather on the loud side. Wish someone from the garden centre,would rescue the poor dead plant on the windowsill.

Absolutely disgusted by possible the owner of the cafe having a problem with my disabled child who was nearly being sick with us putting her just outside by the walkway to the toilets toilets and having the door open a little bit to help her calm down l. We are regular uses of the sensor room and this was the place also regularly enjoyed ate lunch after but never again .

Really friendly, great food and super service. They were very busy on the Saturday morning we visited, they let us know the kitchen was a bit behind, great communication. A bit of a chat and tea and the food soon appeared.

My wife had eaten here previously and had been positive about the experience but we weren’t today. There was a sign that the Bistro was under new management - if so they need to improve quickly. The quality of the food was poor. I had a sausage baguette which was insubstantial and the baguette was dry - not worth £5.50. Baked potato was overdone and paninis pretty tasteless. I also prefer tea in a pot as opposed to a tea bag in a cup. 2 stars reflecting the very pleasant staff.

A lovely friendly restaurant breakfast is excellent

Staff were warm and welcoming. Couldn't fault the food! bacon was nice and thick, with the most golden yolks I've seen in the eggs. With a really nice selection of cakes too!!

Now under new managment and what a difference good food reasonably priced. Friendly smiley staff. Saw them moving tables around to accomadate large groups who showed up

Brilliant service. Good food and much improved on the last visit a few months back. More staff all very courteous and food came quickly. We took our five year old granddaughter and had a lovely half term day out!

Just a coffee stop, so didn't get to sample the food, so couldn't comment on what they offered. Staff polite and pleasant.
