White Horse in Mid Suffolk

Excellent food and service as always, grilled seafood and the beef was cooked to perfection.

A little disappointed and maybe we expected too much. Service was great and accommodating especially as we had a dog. Drink selection was good and food menu was nice and varied. Went for the seafood platter and fish and chips and for a seaside area I would have expected more. Batter was too thick on fish (I chose the wrong fries!) but it was fresh. Platter was oily and very disappointing. Coming from the coast myself maybe I am being super critical but I just felt they could do a little more on both the decor and taste of the platter, in my opinion of course.

We had an outstanding experience today at The White Horse! From the minute we arrived the staff were nothing but helpful and kind! We had the sea food platter with tempura oysters which was recommended by our waiter, as we weren't keen on normal oysters and they were AMAZING along with the rest of the food! We will defiantly be back as we could not fault the service and standard of food!

Outstanding meal, Chowder all locally sourced, tenderloin pork belly cooked to perfection and the mille feuille crowned a great meal. Service very attentive. Selection of wines and spirits added a great compliment to the meal, before, during and after.

Fantastic restaurant, this is one of our favourite restaurants in North Norfolk. We return to the restaurant year after year because we love the seafood so much. In fact we decided to retire to north Norfolk as this was our summer vacation place, the ‘White Horse’ is a restaurant we enjoy and love visiting, the food and service never disappoints. I love the Oysters and seafood selections especially the fruits de mer. Excellent restaurant 10/10. Thank you.

A lovely Valentines Day lunch. Very,very good service as always. Table with a great view over the marshes. No Bacardi stocked so my wife chose water. The Brancaster Brewery Oystercatcher was a lovely brew! We had oysters first then mussels then a pud. Oysters good but not as big or well presented as previous visits to be rated excellent. Mussels were also good but not excellent. Good quantity and fries kindly substituted for focaccia but size and cookedness (?) of the mussels varied. Excellent effort for a busy Valentines Day lunch service!!! Local real ale at £5/pint and a service charge of 10% seemed very reasonable indeed.

We couldn’t fault anything about our visit to the White Horse. The food was second to none, the ambience beautiful and the staff very attentive and friendly. We will return hopefully in the summer to witness the beauty of the landscape and the amazing sunsets.

Had a great lunch with a gorgeous view and friendly service Deducted a point as our mains were not perfect, my prawns were overcooked and the sauce on the chicken lacked flavour, but starters and desserts were delicious and we hope to return soon for more

So glad we found this, after a bit of a bad start to my Birthday weekend this did not disappoint. If you like great seafood this is a must, whilst we were eating we booked to come back and stay !!

A lovely venue with tasty food and good portion sizes. The service was efficient and friendly. All in all a very enjoyable evening.

We like the White Horse, it’s a friendly place and we can take our two small dogs along too and eat in the bar. The ambience is fantastic and the service is good, it’s just that on this visit the food was a little disappointing. We opted to go straight for a main course and to leave room for pudding. Both of us went for the plaice. The potatoes and greens accompanying the fish were very good. The fish was served in a light curry sauce and accompanied by mussels. We also ordered the beetroot and sprouting broccoli as sides. The fish was…disappointing. A smallish and very thin piece of place which when the bones were taken out left very little fish ‘meat’. You had to fight for what was there and it was frankly not worth the effort. We ordered the wrong thing, and looked on enviously at the couple on the next table who had ordered the haddock (him) and moules (her). They looked fantastic and we’ll know what to order next time. The broccoli side dish was way over cooked, and we mentioned this and it was promptly taken off the bill. We ordered a tiramisu for pudding which was fine, but my wife’s Irish coffee took ages to arrive. By this time the restaurant was much quieter so we were somewhat nonplussed as to why it took so long. So not a bad evening just a little disappointment for the main course.

We had an excellent meal today service was excellent food was excellent and the venue the conservatory was beautiful and lovely and warm . Stunning place to eat well worth the 2 hour drive there .x

I was very excited to visit The White Horse as had heard such wonderful things but unfortunately our experience was far from that. Our starter was luke warm and could tell it had been sitting for a while as the top of the chowder had started to form a ‘skin’. It was however tasty so opted to ignore the temperature issue. We then waiting 40 ish minutes for our main to come, the waiter even noticed and without us prompting him said he would check with the kitchen. When the mains arrived (grilled seafood platter and mussels) they looked to the eye, very nice. The platter was unfortunately cold, lacking any flavour and the salsa verde was not salsa verde and the dish was swimming in a green oil covering all the fish. The mussels tasted ok but nearly every mussel had grit in them and had not been washed properly. Our waiter was sympathetic and kind and offered some new mussels but these were very similar and the white wine sauce had not been cooked properly and did not taste good so we had to send those away as well. Overall extremely disappointing and we left our Norfolk weekend escape on a low. We did appreciate our waiter however for understanding our feedback. I think this is one of those restaurants you think is nice because of the presentation and location but when you actually realise what you’re eating, I have had better food at a Greene King pub.

The staff are very welcoming, informative, helpful and attentive whilst aslo helping to keep us feeling relaxed and comfortable. Such a lovely experience. We travelled from Lincolnshire to the White Horse for our anniversary lunch. From the moment we arrived to when we left we could not have asked for more. Our meal was lovely and we were seated with a superb view over the marshes. It is clearly a very popular venue and quite busy but the service was brilliant and our waiter (can't remember hid name, but he was from Latvia) was so attentive. Had extra treats once they knew it was our anniversary which was a lovely thought. Would certainly make the journey again and would thoroughly recommend a visit

Excellent dishes plus a very good and most polite and prompt service. Having asked in advance for a table by a window, we we were taken to an excellent table in a corner of the restaurant , with a splendid view over the marshes. First class service, first class food, absolutely one of the best on the coast, having lived here for 15 years, family friendly. A must for all visitors!

Lovely menu and specials options. Great chowder to start and the mushroom tartlet didn't disappoint-fantastic crispy pastry case. Finished off with lemon tart and cheeseboard, both winners. Thank you, we will be back.

Great food excellent and friendly service , highly recommended

The smoked salmon starter and the sirloin steak + lobster combo for main was absolutely beautiful! The monkfish, both flavour and portion size was a little underwhelming, also a little unsure of the Bombay mix on the scallop starter...! Will definitely return as the atmosphere and buzz in the place was great, particularly in the bar.

Excellent food and service. Thought it was odd to add a £1 charitable donation to bill without asking first. I wondered what fisherman’s aid was and felt slightly embarrassed to ask and be told it was for charity. I don’t object and paid it but feel a more courteous approach would be to ask the bill payer first, rather than for them to wonder what an addition was to the bill and question it. Automatic service charge added too. That said, lovely food and service.

Great food in great setting but service seemed disorganised on 27th Dec. Barman didn’t know you serve kir royales, we were early and table wasn’t ready but host seemed put out we were still in bar area 10mins after our actual booking, like it was somehow our fault, nobody let us know. Made us feel unwelcome. At table service, Main cutlery was cleared before main courses arrived. No big deal but odd. Main waiter was a character and v.friendly. We were celebrating a birthday and thoroughly enjoyed sea food platter as a starter between 4. Lovely the birthday girl got a birthday plate of petit fours as dessert. Much appreciated. Potential to be fabulous but didn’t live up to expectation of previous visit.

Amazing experience, staff went far above and beyond!

Rather disappointing visit. Menu looked promising but food didn't live up to expectations. Mussels had obviously been under the hot lamp to keep warm as those on top were dry and wrinkled, chios luke warm and mushy peas tired. Had to ask for order to be taken and took an hour for mains to arrive. Great view over the misty marsh but won't be hurrying back.

Overall the food was good, some of the elements were not perfect but had a lovely evening.

Slow service, the waiter spilled a J20 & a Cider over my wife & two year old son, completely soaking them. The only thing they done to try & rectify the issue was offer to remove x3 of the cheapest drinks off of the bill. Considering my two year old child was soaked & smelled like a brewery & my wife had to have her dress dry cleaned & shower after returning home (1 1/2 hour trip just to visit the place) you would of thought they would want to do a bit more to rectify their issue that had spoiled the night. Poor show all around really.

We always enjoy the white Horse and since new management the atmosphere and staff attitudes have improved greatly . Everything and everyone is very nice. As we are local and would like to visit there more often, we feel the prices are a bit steep in relation to the portion sizes, which are a bit small. The food , however, is tasty and well presented, but my husband always leaves feeling a bit hungry. He therefore chooses fish and chips which is more substantial, but pub food rather than gourmet.

A really lovely place with great staff and fantastic food. The views are spectacular and worth a visit on a warm day. It was a little cold for a walk on our visit as we hadn’t prepared for the cold wind. Will be back in the summer :)

Had lunch for my wife’s birthday and it was superb. Menu selection A1 particularly if you like fish. Service and attitude was excellent by all the staff and the little “extra” birthday plate was unexpected and delightful. Would highly recommend the White Horse for good food, good service and a lovely experience. Well done to Rob and all the staff.

The small amount of food we had was reasonable but not great compared to previous visits. We do not agree a service charge is just added without asking us. The waiter was extremely rude when we told him about the portion which was not even big enough for a child let along a male adult. He was then even more rude when we said we wasn’t paying a service charge. The service was slow and never the same waiter. It wasn’t busy so wasn’t really an excuse. Really upset by our visit as we try to come regularly, it’s given us a really bad feeling after today.

The best meal we have had in a long time. Lots of seafood on the menu which we took full advantage of. Great selection ie scallops, oysters , mussels and a wonderful bowl of mixed seafood which I had for main. Not cheap but then seafood is expensive to buy. Could not fault the service and all the staff were amazing. This was then topped off with a Shanty band on a Christmas party. I haven’t clapped so much in ages. 10/10. Thank you for a wonderful evening. We will be bock soon.

We have wanted to come here for ages. It was a gorgeous restaurant, so warm and festive. The food absolutely delicious. The atmosphere so nice and the food, amazing. Our waiter Jamie was really nice too.

We went for a birthday celebration lunch and was treated very well with an extra treat for the birthday boy which was a nice touch. Once again the White Horse delivered. Brilliant food, good service and nice ambiance. Can highly recommend.

A fantastic dining experience to celebrate my Dad’s 90th birthday. Excellent food, service, attention to detail, friendliness and the most beautiful view. It was nicely busy for early December (it is very popular in summer) but I would recommend here for any occasion, any time.

Staff were immensely friendly as well as efficient. They went above and beyond for my father's 84th birthday. Food was excellent. This place isn't cheap but it was well worth it.

We had a delicious meal which was promptly served by well trained staff. Everything was perfect and we couldn’t believe how the time had flown. It was a very special reunion as we hadn’t seen my brother and sister-in-law for nine months, owing to my husband’s chemotherapy treatment. So, the lunch was very special and our thanks to all at The White Horse for making it a very memorable occasion. Thank you.

Brilliant service from delightful waiting team and the food was outstanding Beef carpaccio with all the trimming and sautéed scallops with a delightful light curry sauce made a perfect starter And we had Brancaster mussels for our main course in a white wine sauce . Big fat and juicy with chunky chips crisp outside and fluffy inside. Not forgetting a flowery gooseberry Sauvignon from NZ. Perfection And the classic lemon tart to conclude We have to return!

Whilst we enjoyed the overall experience the roast beef was let down by the gravy. There just wasn't any flavour. Disappointing as we have been a couple of times now and we love the White Horse.

Had a perfect table by the window overlooking the marsh. The food we ordered was delicious and well cooked , mains came on a hot plate just as we like. Value for the money.

Lovely atmosphere and outstanding marsh views. Food was not the highlight, service good.

Honestly, the only fault I can find is it's not closer to my house. Absolutely superb food and service, my wife and I were celebrating our twentieth wedding anniversary and we were treated like royalty. We had the seafood platter for two and a sweet each which was more than enough. Cannot fault anything,a huge thanks to all involved, you made our evening very special.

Great food - unique view of north Norfolk coast and excellent service

The food here was fantastic, but the service was let down. We arrived early, so we decided to have a drink in the bar. We asked 3/4 times if our table were ready to be told repeatedly it would be another 10/15 minutes each time. was then 45 minutes after we had booked the table for, we went through to the restaurant, which was practically empty, to be told it had been ready ages. Wouldn't usually be a problem, but we had our young daughter with us, so it was then beginning to get too late for her. The food was fantastic, though.
