The Highwayman in Mid Suffolk

I would highly recommend this place. This is very much a hidden gem. The pub itself is a lovely building and when we arrived we were looked after very well. The food was absolutely lovely, especially the lamb hot pot and plum crumble which I had ordered. Before we arrived here, we did not know what to expect, but it certainly exceeded our expectations. I would definitely come back here and will be telling my family about this place.

We enjoyed an excellent ' St Valentines Day' dinner here. We had pre-chosen our dishes from the special menu and each one was a delight. My favourite was the Smoked Salmon starter and the Ukranian Jarkoe was also delicious. A calm, inviting atmosphere, efficient, friendly service and fabulous food all made for a perfect evening! Highly recommended.

After reading some excellent comments about this place we decided to check it out , what can I say except this place is a little gem , wonderful building and the food was amazing , staff were all extremely friendly and gave us a very warm welcome Will definitely be returning

Haven't been here for some years, it's a long way from home. Nothing has changed except the waitress! Nice meal, nicely presented, excellent service. Would go regularly if it was closer to home. Don't be fooled by the menu on the website, there is loads of choice.

We found this place online, when we were looking to book somewhere for lunch, as we were passing through the area and what an absolute gem this place is. I can't remember the last time I was genuinely spoilt for choice on a menu, and eventually I plumped for the smoke duck salad starter and the Goan chicken curry for main. Both dishes were absolutely spot on. They were well balanced in flavour and texture and the homemade olive bread was a lovely extra touch. The service was excellent and my only regret is they are not closer and therefore I could eat there more often.

We were given a very warm welcome, and a s a party of 9 we were given a table in a corner of the restaurant. The food was excellent, beautifully cooked and presented. The service was smooth and unobtrusive. We will be returning- it was our first visit, but not our last.

On a recent visit to Suffolk we chose The Highwayman for a meal out with family and friends because having dined there many times before we knew we could count on a really friendly welcome from David and beautifully cooked food to enjoy. We were not disappointed and look forward to our next visit.

Called in for lunch without booking and was warmly welcomed by the friendly barman who promptly found me a table and seated me. Shortly after ordering my food I was lead to another table and my drink brought through where my food arrived just after seating. High quality service of the kind usually reserved for the finest of establishments and something they clearly pride themselves on. The rib of beef roast was pure quality and one of the best Sunday dinners I've had away from home and extremely reasonably priced. Many times have I seen higher prices and far lower standards than this. The desert (pavlova) was a perfect end to my visit and I will certainly be returning with friends. Highly recommended venue for anyone that likes great food and a relaxed homely atmosphere.

Enjoyed another excellent lunch here to day with a neighbour and friend of mine. 1 x G & T and a medium glass of Sauv Blanc, which were taken to our table, for us to finish in the restaurant; always a nice and thoughtful gesture. My friend enjoyed Olga's Signature Dish of Chicken Dnipro with a selection of seasonal vegetables [14.35] and my Cod Loin was perfectly cooked on a bed of samphire, sauté potatoes, etc. We finished with 2 x Lemon Cheesecakes and whipped cream [6.25each]. A cafetière of filter coffee with hot milk. The service is always of a very high standard with Olga's husband being 'front of house' and a delightful waitress too. We will certainly be returning.

Great friendly atmosphere ,as we met up with our friends for lunch was delicious meal.Definitely will visit again.

This was our first visit and what a lovely experience it was. The owner and his staff go that extra mile with the small details to ensure it’s a memorable experience for everyone. We were there for lunch, the food was delicious. Although we were drinking “fizz” I noticed there is some very nice beers on offer. We will definitely return.

We had lunch for 3 of us today and as everything is cooked from fresh, there was a little wait of about 30 minutes but well worth it when it arrived, we had between us, a steak and ale pie and veg, baked cod with samphire and capers with lardons and lovely sautéed potatoes, a chicken dish, all off which were delicious. Two of us had the apple crumble and cheesecake which were delicious too. Excellent value and the quality of food fabulous, we shall be back soon as this was a great little find, a hidden gem, we were also made to feel very welcome, Thank you!

Another enjoyable dinner! A warm welcome, cosy and comfortable and good food. Our last visit was in November and we were surprised and impressed on this recent visit that lovely Irena remembered my husband's love of apple crumble and custard! When our friends from the United States visit in the near future, we'll definitely treat them to dinner here!

Ate here in a party of 12 recently. It was our first time visiting the Highwayman and we were really taken with the ambience as we walked in. It had a really cosy warmth to it. The staff were friendly and welcoming.My dietary requirements are the sort that make some chefs cast their eyes upward and say, "oh not one of THOSE!" But chef Olga could not have done more to accomodate my needs.The host of the meal had asked Olga to speak to me beforehand and she had taken note of my needs.I could not have been happier with my meal. The salmon was cooked to perfection and so were the vegetables.The goat's cheese starter was absolutely deliecious and well presented.Most of the time, I don't eat dessert in restaurants because there is never anything on a menu that is healthy - everything is always heavily sugar laden. But Olga suggested making me a simple fresh fruit salad and so I was able to enjoy a dessert with everyone else without going into a sugar induced coma!Thank you to the Highwayman team - our waitress was really on the ball too - we had a lovely evening and will be back.

My wife and I had been disappointed and let down by the hotel we were supposed to be staying in -who told us that we weren't booked in. So we had to make an emergency booking and chose the Travelodge near to the Highwayman for two nights. We ate here both nights. On arrival here to eat, we were greeted by quite possibly the most welcoming landlord I've ever met, who made us feel totally comfortable and was a shining example of how hospitality should be.The food - in terms of quality and quantity - just superb. No other words needed. Loved it and whilst "we will return" is one of the most overused expressions in hospitality, in this case, when we come back to Suffolk, as we will, we will come back here.

Went to dinner with 4 friends and had just an amazing meal. Food was fantastic and service excellent. Only disappointment was that there was no sticky toffee pudding or meringue as advertised on the menu, but the lemon cheesecake did not disappoint. Will definitely go again and recommend.

My wife and I had an absolutely amazing meal at this lovely pub/restaurant during a stay in the area. All the staff were extremely friendly and professional and the food was top notch. We would highly recommend this place and would eagerly return when back in the area again.

The host greeted us warmly, the service was efficient & courteous. I had the aubergine moussaka, which was beautifully presented & tasted as good as it looked!The men had the Pie of the Day, chicken,leek & mushroom, which they said was delicious! A delightful country pub which deserves to be well supported!

We went for dinner as a family with 2 young children. We all loved everything we ate. The duck, burger and pie were all lovely. The sticky toffee, cheesecake and crumble were heavenly. Highly recommend for the friendly service and brilliant food

Once again The Highwayman was the place for our first meal out after the second lock down . Food just as good as was the welcome and service . Small but tasty menu which is home cooked by Olga as you order, not your usual pub microwave meals . Thank you once again Olga and David also the very pleasant young lad who serves it .

Stunning, simply stunning. Generous portions, balanced sauces, beautifully cooked vegetables and exceptional value. The last mouthful was just as good as the first. Possibly the only good thing to come out of lockdown.

This is the most amazing place for homecooked food, I have just a roast dinner and desert for takeaway! David and olga are great hosts and always so welcoming and friendly! I have been to many restaurants in suffolk and this is the most amazing place for tasty food! I had a nut roast with all the trimmings and a pear and frangipane tart! with cream and my partner had turkey with sticky toffee pudding and sauce! bloody lovely! the food was still lovely and hot and grazy was deelisious!

Always enjoy the food & hospitality of David & Olga & staff. The food is outstanding & the takeaways just as good. Sunday Roast Beef takeaway was just as good as the sit in meal. Perfect value for money. Thank you to all.

We have always enjoyed Olga and David’s professionalism as ‘my hosts’ at The Highwayman’ and of course their attentive staff. The food is always prepared to the highest standards in house and today we have throughly enjoyed a Sunday Turkey lunch takeaway, it was well presented and delicious. Had a takeaway last night - Cassoulet & Salmon both with fresh vegetables, apple crumble & custard + Eton Mess. Very efficient, brought to car in cardboard box at the appointed time, hot food in containers that you take back and recycle the next day.Best Cassoulet I have had outside SW France. Meaty duck leg, top quality sausage and bacon, all in a delicious sauce with two type of beans. Absolutely first rate. Nice fresh vegetables including swede, well cooked. Apple crumble was delicious - fresh apples, lovely topping with plenty of toasted flaked almonds, lovely creamy custard.Partner enjoyed her Salmon and Eton Mess.Overall, excellent food, excellent value. As a Suffolk boy in exile I can't believe I haven't been here before on forays back to old stomping grounds. Would love to eat and drink inside but in Lockdown 2.0 top notch takeaway has given me something (I hope) to look forward to... Well done to the owners for knocking out such quality food in the current circumstances.

Once again thanks David and Olga we had an excellent lunch - a great meeting place. There were three of us, we all had starters - Salmon and crayfish, and Goats cheese - Fabulous. Main courses were Duck breast and Sea Bass again all cooked and presented well, the duck was cooked to perfection (and no I get no discount for reviews!) the fish appeared to be wonderful as well. No room for dessert sadly. Sadly we are not local otherwise we would support this friendly and well run restaurant much more. We will return!

Food was delicious. The menu may look small but is better to have a menu with food they do well than a big menu that is generic. There was a specials board with a lot more choice. My husband had the pork cutlet with dauphinois potatoes and veg. The pork was cooked to perfection. Very juicy. I had the steak, mushroom and Guinness pie shortcrust pastry with veg. The pie filling was very yummy the beef very succulent. We had to wait a bit for the food to come out but it was well worth it. Wednesday and Thursday 20% off food.

We were a party of five and all greatly enjoyed our meals - a wonderfully varied menu. - all extremely good and full of flavour. The sweets turned out to be as irresistible and delicious as they sounded. And the coffee was excellent.

Whilst driving on the A140 we found a sign for The Highwayman. What a find! The staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The menu had a good choice. The ham egg and chips was fantastic! So was the chicken curry. Their plum and cinnamon crumble is out of this world

Just had our first meal out after lockdown . Of coarse it was to The Highwayman. Great to see them open again. Same great food , same great service. Best Rice Pudding ever..

Tonight our very first visit to the Highwayman won't be the last. We were welcomed by the friendly landlord made to feel special such a nice welcome. A quaint country pub the staff were lovely and helpful. The food was really tasty and well presented I had prawn Cocktail followed by a. chicken dish. Yummy. Fair prices well done a really ni e pub

Went here a few days ago and it is a wonderful place to eat, I have written a few reviews on this place and they all say the same yum yum , the food has flavour and is cooked perfect Olga is a fantastic chef and certainly knows what she is doing. David is a perfect host and makes you feel very welcome every time I can't recommend this place enough try it you wont be disappointed

Have used this place several times and the food is always freshly cooked and good, being cooked for you means that you do have to wait a while but it is worth the wait. A little bit expensive but nice food.

Went for sunday lunch, very friendly owner and staff. Nice environment very homely feel, good service and nice food. Mushrooms to start, beef roast for main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All very tasty indeed, recommend visiting

Four of us went for lunch,we were met with a very friendly landlord who took our drinks order and showed us to table.Later he came and took our food order.When the food was ready the waiter came and took us to our table which was upstairs.

We decided to have lunch here today after a gap of a couple of years. Why have we left it so long. My husband and I had the best meal that we have had in a long while.Atmosphere and service excellent , must use our local restaurant more. A big thanks to all the staff for a lovely meal.

We were greeted by the landlord, who was very friendly and polite. After getting our drinks we were seated in the bar where we choose our meals and waited be taken to our table. When our table was ready a waitress collected our drinks and led us to our table. Our food was served by very polite staff and nothing was hurried. Drinks were served at table as requested and overall we had a lovely relaxing evening. All the food was cooked by the owners wife and was really tasty and nicely cooked. We will be back.

Found this place by accident on our way to get together with friends. We stopped for lunch. Going into the building we were greeted very cheerily and the staff were all amazing - first class service. We opted for the roast beef bagueetes which came garnished with a dressed salad. The baguette was warm, the beef was plentiful.

This is a brilliant place to eat , can't recommend it enough, we come here very regular there is usually three of us and my husband and our very good friend always have the seabass, it is always cooked to perfection I love the goats cheese starter Olga is a brilliant chef and the Sunday dinner well it is beautiful you can taste every individual flavours when you walk in you get a warm welcome from David ( manager alongside Olga his wife ). It is lovely and relaxing they don't rush you and the staff are friendly and attentive I have recommended this place to my friends and family actually we are going again today, can't wait

Having had a rotten day visiting parents in hospital, we were on our way home and decided to grab some dinner. This was a fab find. A beautiful pub/restaurant . Both of us had the steak. It was cooked to perfection. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back. Thanks Dave

We visit the Country Music Festival in Debenham in July each year and stay at the Travelodge not far from the Highwayman. Our evening meal on the Saturday during the weekend is always a highlight of our visit. Tonight’s meal was extra special. I had the sea bass and my husband had the pie with guiness and shortcrust pastry which he raves about. The Eton mess which followed was very special too. A great meal in lovely surroundings at a reasonable price. We will be back .

We have visited many times , the welcome is great, Olga's food fabulous, and our friends travel for some distance to eat there. Drinks are good value, but no-one can beat the pies, they are great. If you want to eat early, warn them, you might want a pie. Good fun, friendly and accommodating.

Stopped off for pit stop on way to Norfolk. Very friendly service. Did a ploughman’s although not on menu and very nice. Sat in small but peaceful beer garden with pond and waterfall.

The food is really delicious all freshly cooked to perfection. We visited several times for both lunch and dinner. The sweets were also fabulous I cannot praise it enough, it is well worth a visit and there are several attractions in the area.

Staying in the area, we had The Highwayman recommended as a great place to dine and we were certainly not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed by our host David in the bar and immediately felt at home. On offer was an inviting and comprehensive menu along with the tempting special dishes to choose from. Cannot fault both the excellent service we received and the fayre provided and any requirement we had was promptly attended to in a friendly and professional manner. This establishment is a little gem and we would thoroughly recommend to anyone without hesitation. Hope to return another day when visiting Suffolk again.

I have driven past this pub many times as it is on the A140 but had never stopped before. A group of five of us booked to have dinner last. The inside is real surprise! Lovely cosy bar area with very friendly staff and the restaurant is a barn style room with tables upstairs and down with lovely views of the garden. I looked at the menu online before arriving and thought it looked very limited but that’s because there was a good selection of specials on blackboards. My only criticism is that it was very hot in the restaurant, for me, uncomfortably so.

We have been here a quite few times over the years and even spent Christmas Day here (2018) My other half and I love it. The food is always delicious and the service is very friendly we always feel relaxed here. Not as cheap as some places but you get what you pay for with their excellent quality of food. Great place for a date night or a family occasion. I highly recommend the Gressingham Duck with dauphinois potatoes the duck is cooked to perfection.

We came up from London for a weekend away. We booked a table for lunch at the Highwayman and were greeted by a friendly landlord who was very accommodating. The steak and Guinness pie was very nice and the moussaka vegetarian option was similarly satisfying. The waiter was very polite and attentive to our needs.

The Highwayman is usefully located on our way home from Ipswich or Stowmarket and is too tempting to pass. Always a friendly welcome and good reasonably priced food. Over a period of time we have had both Bar snacks and full meals. Quite an extensive menu to suit all tastes. Food prepared to order and well presented. A good bar with real ales and good selection of wines. Would thoroughly recommend.

A great find having been past it many times, a friend had also recommended the Highwayman to us. There was a fixed menu and plenty of specials, the smoked fish platter starter and crab were fresh and very tasty and my husband said that the rib eye steak was one of the best he has had. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we will definitely be back.

This was our 2 nd visit to the highwayman , the first was amazing and the 2nd just as good , looked at the menu and your spoilt for choice , food all home cooked and top quality , i find it very difficult to believe a previous report and think it totally unjust , if your a food lover , this place is hard to beat , staff do speak excellent english and their manners impeccable

The menu is very limited so not a great deal of choice, the staff didnt seem that competent with serving or understanding english.we found the food greasey and the steak wasnt the best quite grissely and fat.

We took 14 friends for dinner, and had a super evening. David and Olga helped create a unique menu with lots of surprises, so great fun was enjoyed by all!!

We have lived near this restaurant / pub for many years and had always meant to pop in but never did - until last Saturday! And we are so glad we did. David and Olga are very welcoming, the ambience is great and the food and service was amazing - and extremely good value for money. We have already started to share our “find” with local friends so thought we would share it with you too!

My husband and I had a lovely evening meal at this restaurant/pub. We went for a lunchtime drink to suss out the highwayman with the idea of booking a table for the evening. We had a great conversation with the proprietor and he made us so welcome that after looking at the menu we booked a table for the evening. The food and service was great all the young staff were brilliant and very professional, we would defiantly eat there again if we were in that neck of the woods.

Lovely food, excellently presented and quick and efficient service. In a quiet position but well worth the effort. The landlord makes you feel at home instantly.

My Father took me for lunch, I had the Gressingham Duck and Dad had the Pie of the day. It was amazing! Best meal I have ever had. It was perfectly presented, the service was excellent and the landlord and landlady made us feel very welcome. Excellent value for money and I would go everyday if I could.

Our second Christmas Day Lunch at the Highwayman. It was excellent with a nice relaxed atmosphere, not hurried in any way, with excellent food and helpful host and staff.

We booked late and got Table at 12:00 David and Olga made us welcome with drinks at the bar. We had fish of the day and roast beef. Excellently cooked, Eton mess for dessert, a special version for our diabetic diner.

Have driven past this pub on the A140 so many times over the years but on recommendation decided to visit with friends for a meal. What a very pleasant surprise it was too.

We enjoyed a very tasty perfectly seasoned evening meal on Saturday evening, our first visit back to this pub for many years. The beef and Guinness pie, with tender meat and homemade pastry topping was delicious and the dauphinoise potatoes that came with my pork medallions were perfect. The menu isn't extensive, and the pudding choice particularly limited (I don't really consider ice cream a pudding choice) but we shared a very nice sticky toffee pudding that wasn't too sweet. The odd part of the evening is difficult to describe, it was a bit like stepping back in time and very traditional, the pub is quite cosy bordering a bit too dark in the bar area and on arrival there were no lights on in the restaurant even though the pub was quite busy. It lacks atmosphere and seems quite strict?! We would certainly go back mid week to enjoy the food but we wouldn't return for a special occasion.

We met friends and ate at the Highwayman on Friday, having often thought about stopping on the way past! Lovely warm welcome from the landlord. Guided to a cosy seat, where our drinks were promptly delivered, swiftly followed by the menu and a run-down of additional specials! After a little wait, which was quite acceptable as it gave us a chance to chat, we were shown to an upstairs table. The food was very very good .... mine and my husband's sea bass (a favourite dish of ours) was probably the best we've had anywhere! Equally, our friend's salmon and duck gained top marks. 2 of us had the cheese platter (could easily have shared 1), generous portions of 3 lovely, slightly unusual cheeses and a selection of biscuits. Choc fudge cake and lemon cheesecake for the others! Congratulations to the chef, Olga! We will be back ... sooon!

We stopped here by chance as it looked so cosy and inviting, although dark you could see the begonias around the entrance were still in full bloom. We had a lovely welcome from David who went through the menu with us, everything on there was fresh and locally sourced. I had the grilled goats cheese salad followed by fish pie, my partner had vegetable soup and a chicken dish inspired by Davids Ukrainian wife Olga who was the chef. Everything we had was delicious, hot and well presented. The pub/restaurant itself was small, quirky and full of character, a far cry from the brewery chains. We will definitely try and return if time allows during this stay.

Several visits here over the years and whilst the food is good, the menu is very limited & seems to never change, and to be honest the atmosphere is a little sterile.

Whilst not an extensive menu, what they had was a good selection. Opted for the Veggie option and was not disappointed. Nice cosy atmosphere, staff were very friendly

We have had a lovely lunchtime here. The food and service was brilliant. A wonderful atmosphere as well.

21 of us pre booked lunch. Table was ready for us. we had pre ordered so I guess that helped with the excellent service. I had The steak and ale pie.....Wow...Just delicious. Every one was pleased with their meals. Not one negative. Just wish I lived nearer as I'm sure I would keep going back. thanks to David his wife the chef and the waiting staff for making our family lunch memorable.

Stopped on our way to Southwold for a quick lunch. We loved the cosy atmosphere and friendly host. The dressed Cromar crab was a good size, fresh and very tasty.

Very friendly reception, short wait for table, very good service by friendly and polite waiter, food very good can throughly recommend the Cromer crab absolutely delicious. Will certainly revisit

Went here with the family for Sunday lunch and from the moment we walked in the staff were very welcoming and the service was excellent throughout our meal, we all opted for the roast dinner and have to say it was very nice and of good quality and tasted excellent, the only negative was that I thought the portions size was rather on the small side and would have liked more of it. Apart from that is was a pleasant experience and would return again.

"The Highwayman" is a tradional Olde Worlde pub in a pretty setting. It has a huge car park and a garden which visitors can use. My husband and I have been there several times.

A group of 10 of us, 6 adults and 4 children, went to this pub for Sunday lunch. On arriving the bar service was very slow, but we were the only people there so wasn't too much of a problem.

We had dinner here Saturday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly. Would recommend the Steak guiness & mushroom pie, chicken leek & mushroom pie & the chicken supeme with creme brulee for dessert We found the staff very friendly & helpful and the pub/restaurant an interesting place to spend the evening. We will be back.

Called in for Sunday lunch, we have passed this establishment many times and usually say we must try it out, so this time we did and were not disappointed. The person that was behind the bar was very helpful and was good enough to tell us straight away that there would be a small delay as they were currently serving a large party. This gave us the option of going elsewhere, but we decided to be patient. We both ordered the Sunday roast, even though there was plenty of choice. Yes we did have to wait a while but when they arrived we were pleased with them, plenty of meat (beef for the good lady and turkey for myself) with a good selection of vegetables but not too much. We would say that they hev the portion sizes just right.

On arriving the pub was empty wihh no music . There was no atmosphere. The menu was minimal with not much to choose from. Whilst eating our meal two other people turned up. Overall overpriced no atmosphere and poor menumeration.

Passing by and popped in for lunch. We were made to feel very welcome and the gentleman took the time to suggest something child friendly from the menu for my daughter. The menu was very varied and our lunch was delicious. An excellent find and well worth a visit.

My wife took me out for a birthday lunch, and as I had driven past this establishment lots of times, decided to give it a try. Very pleasant car park and premises, nice welcome and an excellent lunch, with good service. The highwaymen of old stopped the carriages and said 'Stand and deliver' well, I'm pleased to say they did stand and delivered very well. We will return.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel looked after and extremely welcome. The food was outstanding with a diverse variety of choices. The service was impeccable and made us feel very special. A must if you are in the area, or even if you’re not! Just wonderful!!

We popped in late Friday night for bite to eat on our way to Woodford Barnes for another amazing weekend break. The sign outside reads good home cooked meals, it should read very good home cooked meals. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is wonderful and price is just right. They serve classic dishes with a twist, which truly enhances the food. We have already rebooked to revisit this hidden gem again in September.

Service was excellent, staff very welcoming and the food was very good. Good value for money and would recommend and return if opportunity arises.

Stopped here for dinner as I passed by. The outside looked lovely with all the flowerpots in bloom. I was alone with my dog. Difficult to manage sometimes when eating. When I asked if they let dogs in, I was told “unfortunately not but they are most welcome in our beer garden”. What a lovely way to put it. They accommodating me eating outside and every member of staff was friendly, smiling and polite. I felt a real sense of they genuinely want you to have a nice experience and it’s not about making money. The food btw was gorgeous. I had the special, chicken, mushroom and leek pie. Traditional pie in a traditional dish with a traditional shortcrust top. Simple, elegant and without trying to hard, it was very much above average in taste. And I’m hard to please! Would definitely recommend.

Homemade steak and Guinness pie, Gressingham duck and the most succulent rib-eye my son has ever tasted. All local meat, fresh vegetables and great wine with friendly customer service. Do not pass this pub by. It is a real find. We will be back

we were looking for a meal and stopped at this pub the outside looked lovely so decided to eat. ordered our drinks and asked for a menu. there was not much choice but decided to go with it anyway, we ordered and waited to be shown our table, twenty minutes later shown to our table and sat for another twenty minutes for our meal, my husband had the chicken which was a small piece and full of bone, i had the curry which was tasteless, the rice with the curry was stodgy and hard, the meals portions were more what you would give a child. we decided to have a coffee and i a sweet which took another twenty minutes to arrive, if the place was busy i could have understood it, but we were the only two people there .i wouldnt recommend this pub as i would not go back.

Two friends and I were driving to Woodbridge for a weekend yoga retreat and wanted to stop off for lunch on the way, we spotted the Highwayman and decided to stop. What a good choice we made, we were given a warm welcome from David behind the bar and asked where we wanted to sit for lunch. We decided to stay in the bar area and ordered a salad each (seafood, chicken caesar and goats cheese) and some drinks. When the food arrived it was very well presented and our salads were freshly made and tasted wonderful. The seafood caesar salad had plenty of seafood and the salads were not swimming in dressing, everything was perfect. We finished the meal with a coffee which came served with chocolate mints. Nothing was too much trouble for the waiter, who was very polite and service was quick. I would definitely go back to the Highwayman if I was in the area, in fact its a shame its not a bit nearer to me. I may be in the area again soon for another weekend away and will hopefully be visiting for lunch again.

I’ve been to The Highwayman a lot of times now, the staff are very friendly and atmosphere of the restaurant is perfect for all occasions. Everything I’ve tried on the menu is 3 michelin star quality. My favourite are the lamb chops and steak all...

Sunday lunch very disappointing. Unfortunately will not be going back. I Ordered roast beef, the yorkshires, potatos and parsnips were frozen which was disappointing as these are quick and easy to make fresh. The other veg was ok. My partner ordered fish which was nice....

Booked this delightful pub in advance. On arrival made to feel very welcomed and publican remembered us previously by name. Lovely pre dinner drink in the bar before bring led through to the restaurant. Menu choice was extremely varied and interesting to cater for all tastes. Expertly cooked and presented meals along with friendly service. Definitely a place to go again- the chocolate fudge cake was first rate.

Because our usual eating place was fully booked and I was looking for an alternative in the same location, my husband and I took my sister to the Highwayman for her 70th birthday lunch. The food was very good, the young French waiter was charming and the experience was such that this will now become our usual eating place in the area. It was quite a find, even though I must have driven past it on many occasions. So, if you are looking for good, imaginative food in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, don't pass by.Stop and you won't be disappointed.
