Awesome village pub, chilled atmosphere and lovely owners! Lush vegetarian choice. My partner loves his meat and really enjoys the menu here. Martin and Claire go above and beyond.

The Gardners is a lovely village pub in a great location next to the Green. We went for the first time recently and had a nice lunch. The staff were very friendly and the food was all cooked fresh. The menu had lots of choices at very reasonable prices. We hope to visit again in the near future.

Wewere going to eat inIxworth but took a diversion following "villge pub 2 miles" sign on the A 1088. The nice looking old pub was empty apart from a bored looking young barman absent mindedly polishing glasses. There is a fair sized and varied menu with variations on some standard pub dishes. Portions were large and nicely presented but no more than you would expect. Prices were reasonable One other couple and a singleton came in while we were there - this was on a pleasant Wednesday in early October. The pub would not have covered its costs that day and one only hopes that it does better at other times.

After 4 years we returned to find little change. The garden is scruffy and needs maintenance, but the waiting staff were attentive and efficient. The menu is still basic, and whilst the vege lasagne is still there, it now includes (unwelcome) chilli (or something similar) which ruined the flavour. My colleagues agreed that the somewhat simple food was just OK. "Average" covers it so well. This pub could be so much more...

What a great pub this is. It's village setting is beautiful with well maintained gardens,a play area for children and under cover areas outside for when the weather is inclement. It even has an outside bar for those who still don't feel overly comfortable with being indoors. The food is excellent, great quality, good portions and very good value for money. Steve the landlord and his wife Jill are most welcoming ,friendly and accommodating as are their brilliant staff. The location is within easy reach of the A14 and well worth a visit. We will most certainly be returning.

Had another great evening when friends from Newcastle and Framlingham visited, one had the steak and ale pie which was so big and packed with steak it would have made at least two portions in many eateries. I have used the gardeners for years going back to the days of Mary & Reg 70s/80s always a good pub no food in then but good service good beer. After Mary&Reg, changed hands a few times sometimes ok. other times not so good but that would apply anywhere. However since Steve and Jill took over about ten years ago the pub is back to the good old days good service good beer good food and best of all good price. So i find it difficult to understand any bad reports i can only conclude it is not the fault of the pub!!!!

We ate here on a Tuesday night in late August having called to book a table only a few hours earlier. Despite already being very busy, the landlord couldn't have been more welcoming. The menu included a very wide range of options, and we chose sizzling skillets of prawns and chicken followed by fish and chips, and a game pie. All the food arrived on piping hot plates and was obviously freshly prepared and delicious. We live locally but haven't eaten at the Gardners for many years, and are already looking forward to our next visit. Friendly service, excellent food and wide-spaced tables - highly recommended.

We booked a meal here on the 'off chance' not knowing the area but was given this pub as an option. The call made for the booking made it sound really welcoming & we weren't disappointed. This is a very 'down to earth ' place and the landlord & his staff were very friendly, relaxed & 'laissez-faire'. It wasn't busy being mid week,so we had a choice of table. When we ordered our food, we were able to make choices to our chosen meal by 'adding' extras to that which was advertised. The staff were happy to accommodate my requests..which isn't possible in all places. We both had a starter of garlic/chilli mushrooms..they were delicious and piping hot..fresh bread was also served. The steak that followed was as ordered and really tender & again very hot. Although the 'onion rings' were omitted, when I asked , a freshly cooked dish of them arrived very quickly. The whole meal was excellent &the portions more than enough for us both.Had we just turned up for a drink, then truthfully,we probably wouldn't have stayed to eat BUT I'm so glad we did & that we had booked, because the whole experience was great. This is a very unpretentious pub with a landlord who clearly knows his trade. He offers 'BritStop' for motorhome travellers...and I feel they'd find this a great place to 'stop over' & eat in.Although our particular visit was on a quiet evening, looking around the 'decor',it suggests a well supported happy place to know & I'd certainly recommend it for a good hot 'pub grub' meal & friendly atmosphere.

I popped in to this pub for a light lunch and pint after a walk in the country. This is still a 'proper pub', independently run and operating as a free house that also offers food. It is situated in a small rural village adjacent to the village green. The pub still has the feel of a traditional pub inside which is something I value. I was made welcome on arrival.I chose the only real ale on hand pump as it suited my taste. Having only one real ale available is not a criticism; better to have one that can be maintained fresh, rather than several where this might not be possible.A good range of food is available from light lunches through to main meals and I chose a hot baguette filled with chilli con carne. The food arrived hot and nicely presented. It was delicious, served with some crisps and a small side salad. The food, beer, service were very good and this, coupled with the welcome, will entice me to return.Prices were very reasonable.

We visited here tonight on our way back from Thursford with our 5 year old son. I have been looking for a walm cosy country pub for so long, but I'd often been put off with small menus & minamal choice. The Gardners arms has a wide range of meals to choose from. We sat beside the open log fire which was beautiful & very festive. The food was piping hot & beautifully cooked, my husband had the full English & said the sausages tasted lovely. All meat is locally sourced from a neighbouring village butchers. My son enjoyed his meal & said It was "lush" - I didn't even know he knew that word ♀️, regardless he cleared his plate & was rewarded with a lollipop from the friendly landlord. We will be back, & hope this to be a venue for future larger gatherings including the entire family :-)

Located about 1/2 mile West of the A1088 just off junction 47 on the A14, this establishment initially provides a fairly common ambiance for country pubs with its mixture of tables and chairs. On the other hand, the welcome and service by the staff was immediately impressive. We chose garlic bread as something to nibble whilst we waited for our main courses and the chef must be complemented for demonstrating a standard for this dish well above the norm. Our main course choices were the steak pie (covered with a proper pastry lid!) with veg; and a mixed platter containing coated mushrooms and onion rings/chicken goujons/scampi/ whitebait, plus dips; both dishes being cooked to perfection and were more than sufficient to defeat our appetites. The menu price list is also impressive with a range of dishes being available for under £10 (the mixed platter, for instance costing £8.95).We have lived locally for some 16 years now, and it is to my regret that we didn`t try The Gardeners years ago. It certainly won`t be long before we return.

The pub was very busy but even so the service was excellent. The food (roasts and the special, chicken and leek pie) was hot and tasty. Somehow managed to squeeze dessert in (homemade apple pie and a banoffee pie). The portions are big, fortunately there is a child's size available and even those are as big as adult portions in some venues. Good bottle of Prosecco for the adults after the meal, when we sat outside in the warm sun, with lollipops courtesy of Steve for the small people. Nice view of the village green is an added bonus, with the occasional horse rider going past and people walking their dogs. Waited nearly 2 hours from ordering, bill was given to us BEFORE we even had the food, drinks that had been paid for at the bar were added on to the bill. Customers who arrived AFTER us, had been served and eaten there food and we still had not be served. When much of the food would already have been cooked from the lunchtime Roast dinner service, waiting nearly 2 hours is unacceptable! I could have cooked a roast dinner in that time. When food eventually started to be brought out, the lady bringing it had clearly been drinking and nearly tipped the plate of food (and gravy) all over one of us. When challenged on how appropriate it is to be serving food to customers whilst drunk, told us to "shut your mouth" at which point we got up and left. Spoiled what had been a lovely Mothers Day. AVOID!

When we first arrived, it was apparent that this is a 'locals pub' where the landlord greated most customers by thier first name. However, we were still made to feel welcome. We bought drinks at the bar and sat at our booked table for 10 minutes before deciding to go find the menus ourselves. I guess the locals know the drill. The menu is a pretty normal pub menu. My step daughter ordered lasagne and I nearly warned her to expect the traditional pub version with the molten cheese still bubbling from the microwave, but we were pleasantly surprised. The lasagne was home made, a little different to traditional lasagne but apparently delicious. The Sunday roasts were also excellent.Very much worth the visit. Very traditional, friendly and great food.

We were recommended to try this pub by our B & B hosts, and we are glad they did. The food is excellent, no frills but very good. Beware the portion sizes, they are huge, I have a big appetite and even I was full!! My husband and shared a starter and a dessert, and had a main course each. The wine is good and the whole meal was very good value.

What a great find. This small quaint pub comes with its own unique owners. We came for a meal and we're astounded by the size of the portions. It's not often that an owner talks you out of food, but here I was advised that I had ordered too much! Steve, the publican was absolutely correct. I wasn't even able to finish my mains, it was so generous. We will be back again

Enjoyed a nice lunch with family at this small, down to earth pub. The unpretentious menu has plenty of options with all the pub favourites and the portion sizes were generous and the prices reasonable.

We tried this out while staying in the area and were not disappointed. The food is not exotic. What it is is good Pub grub. Hearty generous portions and they're happy to make adjustments. My husband wanted the burger without salad and with chips, not french fries - no problem. The table to our left had steaks and were provided with a jug of gravy for their chips - and why not. My chilli was flavourful and generous without being stupidly hot. Puddings were also generous, we had the apple crumble and custard between us. Probably the most full large glass of wine I had all week - and certainly the cheapest. Beer choice a little restricted, but if that's the worst I can say about it, that's not bad. I'd go back here again.

Enjoyed a very nice meal which was reasonably priced as were the drinks. The deserts looked good to but alas we were to full to try them. Pleasant surroundings.

Food varied and excellent. Portions enormous! Landlord very welcoming. Sitting outside on the edge of the village green on a fine evening watching the sun set was heaven.

We visited the Gardeners on a warm summers night last week - our hosts an absolute pleasure - we were so hungry for a hearty meal so we were gutted to find an event on with all tables booked !! The kitchen understandably catering for that - our hosts seeing our plight offered a homemade steak pie veg and pots with gravy it was heavenly !! The beer and Guinness were superb also - our little dog was accommodated in the bar area so all ends up a great place to visit if you in the area . Superb village pub and people !!

The Gardeners Arms is a lovely, welcoming village pub with friendly staff. The food was reasonably priced as was the wine. Food portion sizes were more than we expected so the next time we ate there we didn't have a starter! My husband said the steak and ale pie was one of the best he has had - and that is a big compliment!Would happily go back again.

This is a lovely old pub that serves reasonably priced home cooked food. There's often a lovely open fire which is very welcoming. The wine is reasonably priced too.

First time we visited this pub on a sunday and all chose the Roast, unable to decide we had the mixed - chicken, beef with yorkshire pudding and pork with crackling and stuffing. All the meat was extremely tender, and comes from a local butcher, the vegetables were cauliflower, carrots, green beans, peas, roast and boiled potatoes. It was a huge oval plate, piled high, we ate everything, which probably says it all, because it really was like a home cooked Sunday lunch and not pub chain Sunday lunch.Although it was full the tables were not cramped and it wasn't noisy, good food at the right price (£9.50), basic pub, didn't visit the loo to see if it had improved from our last visit though.

We can highly recommend The Gardeners for both the food and service. Each time we have been for a meal the food has been fantastic. What we call good old fashioned pub grub. We are greeted as though we are frequent customers although we can only visit a few times each year when seeing family. I wish we had a pub of this quality in our home town!

We first came to this pub around April this year and now pop in for lunches regularly. The staff are friendly, the food is lovely and they don't mind having the horse in the garden either No one makes you feel unwelcome and they will change something on the menu if they can to suit your requests. Feel totally at ease when we go there. Thank you all. Keep up the great work, your pub is fantastic

Average food. The bacon, Brie and cranberry panini needed more than 2 slices of Brie as was dry. The coleslaw was not homemade as stated on their menu. The kids meal came with hand cooked sharp crisps when ideally should have been puffs or a safer type of crisp. Would not pay £34 again for the food we got. Very disappointing. Very much squashed in like sardines too.

Had a lovely pit stop and food was lovely and coffee superb - only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because the floor where we sat had cake crumbs on it so I couldn't put my bag down

Ordered a drink and the barista made a face turned to her colleague, who rolled their eyes and also pulled a face. When asked what the issue was, they both ignored us. This made our visit very uncomfortable and won't be visiting this cafe again.
