The best restaurants in Bishop's Stortford Meads East Hertfordshire East of England

I will be back in a flash. Superb Atmosphere, amazing food and great service.

They only serve cheese and meat platters, and Scotch Eggs/Pork Pie, so the food choice is limited. But the cheese choice itself is very good.

I ordered grilled sea bass and my partner was lamb ribs. The food is ok but not as good as written in most of the review.

6 of us ladies of leisure had breakfast in here this morning. Have been here a few times and they never disappoint. Food and service is consistently good. Run by a lovely friendly family. We all opted for omelettes ( different fillings) and they were perfect. Good coffee as well. Will be making this a more regular haunt . Can’t recommend enough

We popped in for a bite to eat always friendly. Lovely and clean were ordered our lunch and waited not too long await. When I ordered i asked if the bread and butter was butter or margarine. I was told butter unfortunately when it arrived it definitely was not butter. Don't get me wrong the food is lovely but they needto serve what is advertised. Also the sauce on the table in the heinze bottle is not heinze you can tell by the colour and how runny it is. The bottles get refilled which is another no no due to ingredients being different. I have to be careful on some sauces. Our dinner arrived and why do they have to serve chips in small baskets just pip them on the plates

The food and drink are good, I would eat in here more in all honesty. However, the WiFi router has either DNS or Port blocking which means you cannot use for teams meetings or access most websites. This would be fine if there was a good mobile phone signal but its very poor in here (some other providers may be better). It seems the owner was trying to be clever, I am not sure what they were trying to achieve but it makes the WiFi next to useless.

I went to Cafe Riverside's Greek evening which is on every Saturday evening. Small cosy restaurant with the feel of a traditional Greek family run taverna. Proper Greek /Cypriot food and wine - all very good as the manager is Greek Cypriot so knows the real dishes. Menu not too big but not too small. A good alternative to the standard but rather bland corporates.

Have used this cafe regularly for the last 2 years. Never had a bad meal. Really friendly polite staff and a lovely community atmosphere. Also great value for money. I had the 3 eggs scrambled on brown toast with smoked salmon & decaf americano. Delicious.

What a great night's entertainment we had last night at The Wheatsheaf! Even with a member of staff down this fabulous landlady served the drinks, arranged catering (Katsu curry - freshly made to order and soooo delicious and great value!) and hosted a really entertaining quiz in aid of local new charity Red Kite Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Service which is based in Bishop's Stortford. The outdoors area was packed to bursting; the atmosphere was great and the pace of the quiz questions just right, with a heads and shoulders game at half time. The money raised - £157.90 - will go to supporting victims of rape and sexual abuse across eastern Hertfordshire. Thank you to The Wheatsheaf for a lovely evening! We'll be back!

Historic and cosy pub, the atmosphere is fantastic. Food is very decent, not necessarily a gastropub, but food is cooked fresh. The burgers are good, and the Detroit style pizzas are nice too. Great selection of beers. Board games also available, some for young kids. By far the biggest draw is historic atmosphere.

Cannot comment on the dining experience, However turned up at 21:30 on 14/1/25 for an impromptu meal for two. Noted at least a dozen empty tables in walking in but was turned away; because our Taste Card required 2hrs notice to the establishment. Fair enough but given the emptiness of the restaurant - could we really not be accommodated? A local alternative wasn't as stringent and took our custom. We won't be returning.

Great little friendly pub, first-time visiting, definitely won't be the last. Live band playing on Friday nights.

I used to love it, one of the best chicken burgers, but yesterday we were really disappointed, the quality of the food was so bad, not sure why. The bun was not brioche and was not fresh and a little burnt, the chicken had no taste or flavour, it was poor, it used to be so juicy and rich and full of taste. We got strips as well, the Chipotle mayo was good, but again the chicken had no taste or flavour, it wasn't even cooked well. I really hope this was just a one time thing, as I love the restaurant and the place, would certainly try it again just hoping it would be back to perfect.

Excellent meal as usual, perfect for the Friday night fix.

Water Lane Lounge hosted my wife’s birthday party and did a fantastic job. Thank you to all the staff.
