The best restaurants in Babergh East of England

Teapots are stained, tables are dirty, service is slow, won't be bringing my elderly parents back here.

We had a nights stay here booking two rooms. Their website offers a comfortable and relaxing stay and ours was anything but… the rooms were dusty, not cleaned well, our room was filled with flies, I let about 20 out the window and then went out for the day came back to our room at 10ish only to find more flies, I had to call the manager up with fly killer to kill them all. On their website it says bar open til 10.30pm, there was live music until 11.30pm which we wasn’t notified about and wouldn’t have minded but our rooms were completely unsound proofed so we could every word of every song as if we were in the pub watching. On their website it says live music some Saturdays check facebook. I’m not on Facebook, I didn’t go on their website because I booked through booking.com. They knew I had two young children and we were a family, and would be expecting to sleep, they also know their rooms not sound proofed so they could’ve contacted us prior to our stay to let us know and we would’ve stayed elsewhere. Their website offers front door below our room was being banged every time someone went in or out of the pub this went on til 12.40am and every time door banged radiator vibrated in our room. The hotel refused to compensate us. Booking.com are just as useless and so I’ve gone through credit card. Absolutely would not recommend this place, it’s a joke!

Use to love this place but after what I have just had, definitely wouldn't go back, naan bread wasn't even cooked properly, vindaloo was tasteless and onion bhajis was as dry as the desert!!

My Partner and I have just visited your Coffee Shop in Tesco Store in Sudbury Suffolk and were served by a young lady by the name of Izi. She was a delight and the sort of person you need to keep. Made our day. Thank you

Tables not cleared or cleaned, staff too busy chatting instead of serving and toilets are disgusting. Poor attitude from the manager. I asked if he could clear the table, but he just ignored me and I ended up doing it myself. This us totally unacceptable as there we 3 staff on and it was not at all busy

Spent nearly £60 and the food was awful. I hate to leave a poor review because it doesn't sit well with me that it could be detrimental to a buisness but with just forking out that much for the worst chinese I think I've ever tasted I find it hard to not be honest to others thinking of spending their hard earned money. Bland, dry and dripping in oil. Chillie beef was awful. Not one thing stood out as even half decent.

Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from here. I couldn’t fault our experience, service or meal. Seated quickly, all waiting staff friendly, attentive and fun, without being in your face or hovering. The meal was delicious. Beautiful setting right by the river. Have been a few times before and it never lets us down. Will definitely be back.

We sat in front of the fire next to the bar and was able to order our meal from there. The staff were delightful. We had a a favourite waiter called Honey. 10/10 for the service Honey.

We had a lovely meal at The George. The food was really tasty and good sized portions. There were lots of gluten free options on the menu, and as a coeliac I felt safe to eat here as the staff were really aware of cross contamination. It was the first gf roast meal I'd had out in years where I had Yorkshire puddings too, thank you!

We have just had an excellent 3 night stay at the Black Lion and wanted to thank all the lovely staff for giving us such an enjoyable experience. They are a true team who work together so well meeting the needs of all who pass through their door with apparent ease, calmness and confidence. They get the balance between friendliness and professionalism absolutely right. Our room was very comfortable, clean and well-appointed with windows looking out across the village green and beyond. Our meals have been delicious and the pub/bar area with its log fire was comfortable and welcoming. Location, food, drinks, service and accommodation all come highly recommended!

3rd issue in a row and no more will I order. Waited 40 mins from when app told me my food was delivered and to enjoy for me to recieve my food and as suspected it was all cold. So had to reheat. Birthday treat for boy ruined. Shocking. 50 pounds absolutely wasted

First time here for a couple of years due to working abroad. A thoroughly enjoyable lunch (Gammon, eggs, chips and peas) with excellent service. My friend had a chicken and mushroom pie and, again, found it very enjoyable. Well played, the Beagle! Thank you

Great tasty well portioned , spot on

Came to Suffolk food hall with my family for my birthday (8th March). Ordered at the restaurant but to my disappointment there was no cheese scones. My daughter found cheese scones in the shop and purchased one for me so I could join my family and have something to eat. I went to the restaurant to ask if I could purchase a butter portion for my scone to which I was told “no”, they are not permitted to sell individual portions. I politely asked if I could just have one, again I was told no. To spend £50 in the cafe and another £80 in the shop, I was hugely disappointed with the lack of customer service. A simple butter portion is all that was required, a very small ask. I won’t return as basic customer service skills are lacking here. Apart from the lovely girl with blond hair that took the order, the other staff were unfriendly and rude! It’s the little things that make a big difference and sadly Suffolk food hall failed to please. If you want fresh scones and good wine/coffee I would recommend Shotley Vineyard down the road, a much nicer customer experience!
