We nipped in for lunch on a Sunday. The carvery was amazing and was a reasonable price. We also had a lovely pudding. The waitressing staff were so kind and attended to us very quickly. We will definitely visit again!

Filthy. Bugs and dirt everywhere. Beautiful old building just needs a thorough clean. The chef needs to clean his uniform too as we saw him outside smoking and he was filthy, only 11am so can’t say he’s been cooking all day!! Awful.

Absolutely disgusting sloppy school dinner type food which had obviously been microwaved too much! It was suppose to be a traditional Greek dish god knows how insulting to the Greeks. I think the herbs were in the Stiffaldo to disguise against the runny tasteless jus. Its been repeating on me ever since!! I certainly would not recommend eating here.

We had lunch at the George and Dragon and they were very accomodating as they are very happy to serve the Children's menu to adults who can only small portions. We had a lovely experience which was mainly due to Shannon, who served us. What a lovely young lady. Talk about an ambassador for the establishment. Her manner was so friendly, welcoming and efficient. The George and Dragon wouldn't be the same without her. I do hope the boss appreciates her. The food was nice too.

Booked an overnight stay via Booking.com. On arrival to the George & the Dragon, I had to pay an additional £98.10 in order to check in. Having made arrangements to visit family, I paid the extra amount. In total I paid just under £400 for one night & 2 rooms. Booking.com insisted that I will receive a refund of this amount, however almost 3 weeks later all I have received from Booking.com are emails asking for more details and evidence of the overcharge. I have lost faith in ever receiving this money back. I will not use Booking.com ever again and I will return to Hotels.com now. At least I will be able to speak with a person rather than messaging or emailing a non-entity. Back to the George and the Dragon, it looks fine & is part of the Greene King stable. We had 2 rooms in the Ardley Suite and they look good and it is a pleasant setting. However the beds are simply hard, not firm but how I imagine it might be, sleeping on a rock plus the pillows are very similar. Just like smaller rocks. The shower was a trickle of water that just about washed me clean. Lovely looking room and a big bathroom though. All rather period looking. We ate in the George & the Dragon for dinner, it was passable and difficult to mess up a burger or ham, eggs & chips. I requested the macaroni cheese but it was off the menu that evening. Instead I was served a plateful of macaroni with overcooked & tasteless beef stew, I think. I paid £83.50 for 4 meals, no dessert, including 2 soft drinks. We certainly wish that we had stayed in another hotel or pub and eaten somewhere else. The cooked breakfast was rather small, one sausage, bacon, beans, a hard Hal tomato and some toast. I overheard one elderly gentleman saying, “it’s the worst breakfast I have ever had”, followed by an enormous belch! This about summed it all up.

Family of 10 visiting the pub and having the Sunday carvery. Food was excellent with a good choice of meats and vegetables. Four meat choices (beef/pork/turkey/gammon) and plenty of choice for veggies. Large plate was 13.95 and small plate was £10.95 which is a great price considering what’s on offer. Will definitely go back again.

Really funny vibe. Having eaten and drunk in this pub three times prior in the month before I came with my disabled mum and, stupidly, our dog... I thought Sunday lunch would be a nice experience. Nope. Told dogs not allowed in the bar (website says "dog friendly" when I checked before driving ninety minutes to come on spec). Then told could sit at one of two tiny tables right by the door. But only after told we couldn't even come in by older (staff??) man! Three different male staff came and stood watching me manage my mum in a chair and our dog. Like we were some kind of sideshow. Locals giving us dirty looks. Food was average ("carvery"). Trying to juggle two plates with every single thing (other than the meat being carved for you) in metal lidded containers... No space to rest the plates etc. A joke. Frankly you were bloody rude. Shame as some of your dippy staff were good fun over the years.

What makes this a lovely place to stay in, is the staff. Everyone is really keen to please and help out wherever possible. The hotel itself is a little 'tired' but great efforts are being made by Tyler (the manger) to improve things and make the hotel an even nicer place to stay in. I'd classify it as 'work in progress' but I'm sure, given time, it will be amazing. The rooms are comfortable and functional. The bar is well stocked with good selection of wines, spirits, beers and ciders. The food is great, if a tad expensive but it is always cooked to perfection and well presented by keen staff. The chefs always do their best to accommodate special requests or requirements. The Greek Night on Wednesdays is always popular with a great selection of Greek delights. The clientele in the bar are all really friendly and happy to chat or leave to alone should you prefer. I stayed here for about a month and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you to everyone who made my stay so pleasurable. I WILL be back, I'm sure.

Had the most surreal experience dealing with this very average pub/b&b. We’d booked 3 rooms for family because absolutely everywhere else in Melford was booked out. All 3 of us got calls beforehand saying we’d booked the “wrong rooms” and needed to upgrade and therefore pay more. More than a coincidence I’d suggest… Long story short - on arrival each one of us queried this and ended up having stand up arguments with the extremely rude man on reception, where he accused us of basically being stupid and not knowing how to use a booking system properly. When pointed out that perhaps it was their booking system that was stupid, he told us it was all perfectly clear that “children” meant “under 2’s (which none of us have) and therefore we all needed bigger rooms and therefore to pay more money. This was the tip of the iceberg of all the crazy things this man said. It would take too long to list them all. Anyway, after all that the rooms were crap and creaky. Of course they were 🙄 Only bright glimmer was the very friendly waitress at breakfast the next morning whom we witnessed being berated by the scary Italian chef. Astonishingly poor customer service. And needless to say I wouldn’t recommend this place to my mortal enemy.

Unfortunately I am unable to give a full review of this pub because we left in disgust after entering the pub. Outside the pub was a sign saying 25% off for pensioners on thursdays. This attracted us and we asked if this applied to any meal. We were told that we could not have it because we could not produce a "Pensioners Card". We offered driving licences, bus passes etc but this was not accepted as ID. No explanation where we could get said card. We are sad because it might have been nice but regretfully we have had to tell all our friends who are also pensioners not to bother.

I don’t enjoy giving a bad review but after todays dreadful lunch I feel it is justified. My partner and I were visiting Long Medford and decided to stop here for Sunday lunch. We were seated at the back of the pub, the tables are covered in white plastic which makes you feel like you are at a children’s party. Our order was taken and so the lonnnnng wait began. Whilst waiting it was clear that it was chaotic in the kitchen, one of the servers had very long hair but was clearly leaning over the servery area. Other people surrounding us were clearly waiting a long time too. On receiving our roast dinners, separate vegetables and gravy, which at first look was quite inviting. The roast chicken was crucified, dry and tough. The vegetables were hard and clearly had been in water a long time as on cutting oozed with water. The cauliflower cheese was also so hard. The roast beef was dry and tasteless. After a few mouthfuls we chose to leave. We were not asked our thoughts. On our way home my partner was taken ill with stomach pains. We certainly will never return..

It was hotter than a sauna this tired and unclean room but unfortunately it went rapidly downhill. The band in pub played until 11.20 with just a wall seperating us. Then they loaded their van outside our window at 11.40. My 10 year old was still awake although the room was still like a sauna so doubt if she could have slept even in silence. Then a group of drunks started singing outside so I rang to ask if they could move them on and the guy said they are not from here they came from down the road. Then at 12.45 the morons in the room above us came in and banged and laughed until 2.45. If my daughter wasn't asleep I would have slept in the car. Not even worth one out of five! For a table of 7, two dinners each had a hair in it!!! One was underneath a price of chicken and the other was actually inside a cooked egg and was actually eaten! This had to be spat out! Once bought up with staff and manager, we were accused of putting the hair there ourselves (even though that persons meal has no hair!) and the manager merely joked about the hair and said they would charge us extra for it! No apology, nothing was offered for us to have a replacement, nothing was amended with our bill as a way of apologising. Manager was very rude and confrontational and even though we didn’t have to pay we still did! He then did a runner and left the bar staff to sort our bill out! I have contacted them but have heard nothing as of yet. Will definitely not be going back there. Be warned!

The pub I remember from youth has long gone. Booked in here for one night with my wife, our two year old, and four month old as we were visiting family in Sudbury. My father who lives in Sudbury booked the room for us and checked at the time it was big enough for travel cot etc. We called on the day to ask if we could check in at 1pm instead of 2pm so we could leave some bags in the room. We were told that this would be ok. Turned up at 1pm and found a run down looking pub and an unhelpful manager who told us this was not possible. I explained that we had rung earlier and been told this would be ok. He clearly didn't care. I explained that it was important that we set up our travel cot or at least leave it in the room as we needed the space in the car to pick up another family member. He refused to even consider this which put us out of our way considerably. Turned up at 7pm with some tired children only to find they had a live band on and we had been put in the room directly above! Spoke to the manager who told me we should have said we had kids when we booked the room. I told him we did and that my Father had even visited recently to check the room was ok for small kids. I reminded him of the discussion we'd had earlier in the day regarding a travel cot and that at no point had he even considered mentioning there would be a live band playing directly below us. Forced to drive around for the next four hours with tired kids until the music stopped at 11pm. After looking at the cleanliness of the room we decided not to stick around for breakfast. AVOID!!!

Last week we gave the pubs Sunday lunch a try. I have to say we were both pleasantly surprised. Staff were friendly and attentive. The pub was quite quiet at the time, we were served our food promptly. We had a roast chicken dinner and a roast beef dinner, the chicken was very good, the beef was ok (a bit on the dry side). The gravy boat was the size of a canoe. A very good portion of vegetables and a large dish of cauliflower cheese were the accompaniments which were very nice indeed. I think the pricing was just about right considering the portion size and the quality. We ate out side, the pub cat joined us for our meal begging for scraps and we gave in after a while to his pawing. If you what an honest plate of pub grub I would recommend you visit, if your expecting a gastro pub you will be disappointed. For what it is it is very good and we will be going back but I think I will go for the chicken.

Every 3 months we visit our parents in Long Melford for about 3 days. In the past we have stayed at the Bull Hotel and the Crown Hotel. This time I stayed at George and Dragon Hotel and compared to all 3 Hotels in Long Melford, we have found it to be the best in quality of rooms as it was recently refurbished and value for your money. Likewise with the Food compared to all 4 places at the Bull Hotel, Crown hotel, the Cock & Bell and the George & Dragon, we recommend the George & Dragon as it has freshly cooked food to your choice compared to the others. The only thing about the George & Dragon it’s noisy at weekends Friday and Saturday (like all the others mentioned here) if you book on top of the pub section. However, they have different parts of the builds which are very quiet and you don't hear a thing. So my advice to everyone is to see for yourselves before you compare what you people are saying in the trip advisor. I would like to say thank you to all the staff at the George & Dragon Hotel for making our stay very pleasant and look forward to seeing you again soon.

We had a great time here. We found it extremely pleasant for all ages. The staff were polite and gave the children a special gift at the end. Me and my family would definitely return. Over all we had a great time and I would recommend this pub to all families, couples and friends.

Was the worst nights sleep we've ever had ... music banging on till 12.30am wasn't till at least 12.45am it was quiet enough for us to lay down and try and sleep. Absolutely ridiculous :-/

We made a B line for this pub following Trip Advisor ratings 🙁 However, V Poor food offering for a Sunday lunchtime, roast only, muddled service and despite location, totally without atmosphere. Shame, as could/should be be so much better.

We were tempted in here by the 2 course lunch offer at just after 1pm. Although not full, food service was slow and we were due somewhere else at 2pm. Our mains were hot & tasty but came so late that we had to ask for our desserts to be packed for us to takeaway.

I stayed here for about six weeks in the summer when our house was flooded and could have stayed six more, the George became my home away from home. The rooms are large, spacious and clean.

On arrival I was greeted by a young lady with long black hair, she made my stay very welcoming and was extremely helpful. She also had great knowledge of the local area. My room was very clean, smelled fresh and was tidied each day of my stay.

We needed somewhere local to us to accommodate our family of 4 for a week. We stayed with The George and Dragon Inn in Long Melford. We were given Room 6 which was a 2 room family suite which was perfect as it allowed us to put the children to bed and actually have an evening where we weren't sitting in the dark and in silence! The room was great value, clean, warm and nicely decorated with views to the Christmas lit street below.

Visited with my boyfriend. The pub itself was cold, so I wore my coat the whole time. The service was average and slow, and the server forgot about our drinks. The food was delicious so worth the wait, but unfortunately we won't be returning in a hurry.

Ususlly not keen on Greene King food outlets, but this had good pub lunches at less than 2 for a tenner (small portions) or upgrade to full size for 2 quid extra.

We stayed at the George and Dragon this year when we went to visit at this quaint Inn. Our in laws booked for us so assuming all peachy good. Check in was fine and greatly by a nice young lady who have us a brief of where and what's. We found the upstairs room for the parent wasn't an ensuite. So they had some inconveniences with the very short bathroom door and having to go outside their rooms. I suggest the inn to advise for an upgrade if they could to avoid this inconvenience and they didn't have bath towels in the bathroom. Rooms were clean. We stayed in the family ensuite and was suitable for family with 2 smallish kids (ours were 8&9). Rooms were clean. Breakfast was included and was nicely attended to. It was funny on both days the same order but we had different versions like number of bacon, and number of eggs. We didn't mind the muddle as the service was pleasant and the food was nice. The bar was nice and we had our drinks on a not so busy night and staff were nice and attentive. We liked staying at the Inn but I think our elderly parents had more inconveniences. Note to book ensuite rooms and keep the menu items consistent. Oh and Topless Bar Maid is a band and not what it literally means. That was a good laugh. Long Meldord is has some nice shops to walk down along the Main Street. I suggest the antique shops and a visit to one of the tea houses too. It's close to Clare and there's also a lovely Antique shop there by the nature park and castle. More on that later.

We had a double room at the George and Dragon for one night. We'd booked a few months previously and weren't informed that there was a street fair that day and the road was closed. We arrived about 7 o'clock and the bar was completely hectic. The bar staff were trying their best but none had been trained in the art of looking at the bar and serving who had been there the longest. Some people were coming straight in and being served while others had been waiting a long time. We were staying in the separate building, the entrance hall smelt musty and was in bad repair. There were no towels in our room and the room although large with a big television and a sofa had damp on the walls and could have done with some updating. The manager gave us our towels in the bar which I had said I didn't mind as they were busy but you'd have thought someone could have taken them to our room rather than me having to run them up myself. The atmosphere in the pub was good, there was karaoke on in the bar, a marquee in the garden and we had a nice evening. In the morning we came down to breakfast but the front of the pub was closed and we had to find our way round to the back where there was just one girl doing the breakfast. To be fair the breakfast she cooked was lovely and I cannot fault the staff as they were friendly and helpful. Wouldn't stay again though and at £89 it was the most expensive and the worst place we stayed in over three different nights in Suffolk.

Don't usually stay here but as had the children with me we needed a family room. Booked online for 2 adults 2 children (£190 for 2 nights) rather pricey tbh. Checked in at 8pm after a long drive, only to be told the room was not actually a family room and there was no one around to blow up air beds til the morning (not worth the money) so given a temporary room where children had to share a single bed. Room was above the bar (6) karaoke til 11.30 and live band Saturday night Bloody brilliant, bed vibrates and light flickers when the bass kicked in, no remote control for tv and constant door slamming. Manager came to check we had fresh sheets and towels which was fine. Apparently we were the only people staying that night (so why couldn't we have a family room?) All in ALL absolutely disgusted and would of found somewhere else if we didn't pay a fortune for a rubbish nights sleep. Took plenty of videos and voice memes but can only upload pictures. Such a shame as spent a lot of time here as a teenager. For future bookings they should say they have late night music on weekends

Friendly staff and ok if very average food but the rooms were quite a poor standard and are in serious need of an upgrade. We got a twin room ( no doubles left) and the beds were squeaky, the room had a musty smell and it felt like nothing had changed in the last 15 years (not in a good way!)

Drive past here often and never looks appealing and always looks quiet!!! Choose here as not far from my family and took them for a Sunday lunch. I was in for a shock the place was really busy so obviously a popular place. Environment was warm and welcoming. Service was exceptional and food was really tasty and plenty of it. Would go again.

It was quiet when we visited but the staff were friendly and happy to chat. There is free car parking and good views over the water. We had a sandwich which came with chips. All tasted good though it would have been nice to have the offer of just the sandwich. Overall, I would recommend.

Surprisingly busy for a Saturday, pleased I booked a table in advance. Good variety on the menu, drinks served quickly by a very friendly waitress. Bit of a wait for the food, but the restaurant was busy, well worth the wait, piping hot food and great value for money. Would definitely recommend
