Costa Coffee in Babergh

Some Costa coffee shops have poorly trained staff, awful hygiene standards, inexcusable bad coffee making and dirty. But Sudbury town centre Costa delivers better standards and all but one staff member can make a decent flat white.

We went into Costa coffee today Friday 13th sept…..no that’s no not applicable in this case , the staff were really friendly and each of the three young ladies who served me entered into a little chat. How nice that was….thank you.

Personally we love their coffee, the food isn't too bad either. The staff are friendly although I think it's very much under staffed as its not as clean as it use to be. The outside area is so full of weeds, a huge broken umbrella which broke last summer & is still there, over flowing ash trays & filthy tables & this is such a shame, could be a very nice place to sit otherwise.

What more do you expect from a costa coffee shop

Popped in this morning. Staff too busy talking to a colleague that had clearly popped in for a chat. No bread or confectionery. Was given a small in my reuse cup, so when I apologised for interrupting the barista's conversation to ask for a bit more milk, I was stared at, and had my cup filled to the medium cup it was whilst the barista blank faced continuing to stare at me! Awful customer service! If you don't want to work in retail then I suggest you get a different job!

Been to many costa's but this coffee shop is huge. Wasn't at all busy and received my drink within seconds which goes to my local where I have to wait ages and extremely friendly staff. However, having explored the area, returned back for lunch which again was good service but the toilet on the other hand was disgusting so minus 1 star.

Basically we sat at the back and there was this lady shouting and throwing stuff and shouting she then continued to threaten us but the staff even tho we had videos said she wouldn’t do that and kicked us out absolutely disrespectful and the lady was violent rude

appauling marshmellows, awful hot choclolate (its yellow), they dont heat up your food and the machine for ice doesnt work

Amazing staff and service. My daughter is Autistic and feels so comfortable here. She draws them pictures and they display them. They don't know what they've done for her confidence and self esteem. She has anxiety anywhere else but here totally at home. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Also the coffee is great 👍

Has become our go to coffee shop beautiful cakes good coffee comfy relaxed seating areas toilets great for a quick snack

I know it's a chain and you should support local businesses. But their coffee is so much better here. The staff sre slways smiling and happy to serve. Extra points if the ever cheerful Lauren is serving. Also it beats the other chain coffees in town as it is spacious, doesn't feel like they have crammed as many seats in as possible to the point of uncomfortable.

Very friendly staff but extremely slow service and the customer toilet was a bit grim.

Probably the worst Costa I've ever been in - absolutely filthy! Flys in the cake cabinet and the waitress couldn't care less. Tables not cleared and place is in need of a good clean .

Brilliant service from the staff, very friendly and helpful. And the coffee is excellent.

I used costa for the bsby changing facilities as the room is big enough to take her in there in the buggy. They made lovely Americano and the place is spotless with friendly staff.

Good and friendly service. Waitresses were lovely and hot chocolate were good. Waitresses provided good entertainment. However an odd smell lingered for a couple of minutes and then went away

Probably the worse costa in the area, coffee is awful and cold, its the only (and I mean the only) costa that will not extra hot coconut or almond milk therefore making the coffee cold.....won't be going back.

have to be honest, think this is probably the first time we have visited Costa but I got a £5 voucher from a draw at work. We were surprised at the queue and ended up waiting over 10 minutes for the Latte, Espresso and the two paninis we ordered, they did seem under staffed but we were a bit fed up by the time we got our order - but we then found they have a lovey outdoor space at the back - it was a lovely sunny day so we spent a lot longer than expected enjoying our coffee/food, so much we got another coffee and some carrot cake which we both said was one of the best we have had. Would have given 5 out of 5 if not for the wait -

it was our first time in this costa. We were so surprised at how nice it was. we had a very warm welcome from the staff. from the outside it looks rather small but once inside it is so spacious and has a very chilled out vibe . actually i would say its the best costa i have been in and when we are next in sudbury we will come to costa again for a coffee n cake

Had to wait 20 mins in the queue to get served...wish I hadn't bothered. Coffee was awful..tasted burnt, about 2 inches worth of coffee in the paper takeaway cup for sitting in due to staff shortage apparently , probably the worst coffee I've had this year..worse than Love Toast which is saying something! Back to Neros I think...

It's a Costa coffee, they're all the same. This one was located in the high street and therefore was convenient. Plenty of obvious covid measures in place. We were served quite quickly. The coffee and cakes that we had were after normal costa standard,. That is good but short very good. The prices were reasonable. This was my third or fourth visit and I'll be happy to go back again.

Food on display wasn't covered so started attracting flies, thankfully had packaged meal so managed to enjoy myself.

Standard fare you would expect from a Costa Coffee. The staff’s attitude makes or breaks their reputation. When we visited the staff were pleasant and helpful working under difficult conditions.

Covid safety measures in place. Queueing was a long wait. Service very slow. No good for a quick visit!

Only one toilet ! Needs cleaning more regularly. Service very good.

I went into costa for coffee with a friend, I asked how long their track and trace was valid I was abruptly told by the female behind counter, she replied she didn’t know maybe 2 or 4 hours, I asked her if she was angry, she replied she was fed up with people being rude to her, considering the current climate maybe someone more polite should have job, this is certainly my last visit and I’m a visitor to the town, but friends who live here agreed

Poped in for a quick drink. Service was quick, the two hot chocolates were lovely and had a toasted sandwich that filled a whole. A little pricey and as located in town doesn't have anything great to look at. But its convenient and comfy.

Very pleasant staff. We asked for our hot chocolates to be strong and they were made just how we liked them. Enjoyed cheese and tomato toasted sandwich also.

Hi i went to this restaurant last Wednesday,the staff are really polite and attentive. The coffee was really nice,as well as the pastries they have on offer.

Can to costa 22/08/20 at 4.30.Man behind counter rude and unhelpful dont think he was taught manners as a child

Went in today, was served by a chap called Ryan, clearly doesn't want to be there, really bad attitude. Ordered a hot chocolate I asked to have in, and he proceeded to put it into a take away cup, I quickly said that I wanted it to have in, he huffed and poured the whole drink, cream and all into a hot chocolate glass and poured a ton of chocolate powder on it and gave it to me. The cream had sunk to the bottom and the chocolate was pouring down the sides, it resembled a coke float rather than a hot chocolate. Shocking!

Despite being very busy and working in a cramped environment, the staff were cheerful, friendly and organised. They made waiting a pleasure.

Several times we have had drinks that are not hot enough, but it's nice that people will make time to make your drink hotter and say let us know if not! I like this,

One of the larger branches...convenient location. Why is it in these coffee chain outfits do you have to ask for everything...napkin, spoon, knife etc etc? Incredibly irritating.

Massively deteriorated of late. I came today as husband insisted and within 2 minutes wishes I had gone my own way to Cafe Nero. Last time I was in here the area manager was in and heard to be discussing the endless bad reviews they have had of late. It's made no concernable difference. The staff need bullets up their backsides and to stop wittering amongst themselves. The heating needs serious review, it's always cold and the toilets are filthy. How the kitchen can permently be staffed whilst there's a queue ever growing and still they run out of China is beyond me. Other Costas are still my preferred coffee stop, but this branch is diabolical. Therefore the staffs constant insistence that they cannot manage since the Cola Cola Corp took over, from Whitbreads, just doesn't wash. Shame, as I used to be a regular in the better days.

Incredibly poor experience. Staff seemingly didn't know what they were doing, and the preparation environment was one of the worst I've ever seen! The staff didn't know which of the 20 metal jugs they were using on each drink, struggled to find anything they needed to make the drink, and a new mess was created about every 10 seconds! On top of that, they somehow managed to lose track of what drinks they were meant to be making! And when it came to the end, my drink must've been overfilled with cream, because putting the cap on the container caused it to spill over. It was all extremely unprofessional.

Quite a long wait to be served and very limited choice of cakes available. Maybe it was owing to few staff working and only 1 barrista. Not up to usual standard

Popped in for a cuppa on one of my regular visits to Sudbury. Friendly professional staff and a decent cup of coffee. Does what it says on the tin.

Always take a weekly trip to Costa with my mum and little boy as he loves getting his weekly babyccino (or big boy coffee as he calls it) all the staff are so friendly and are so great with kids even when my little boy isnt having a good day! Such a relaxed atmosphere and the coffee is always amazing

Probably one of the largest Costa’s I have visited. Despite a search for a good independent coffee shop in Sudbury, we ended up (as we often do) in a Costa.Friendly and relatively quick service - usual eats. Mixture of dining type chairs and a few comfy sofa type with low coffee tables.Although the decor looked of the newer style, some parts looked a little tired (but that didn’t detract from our overall experience!

Whenever we come in here they are short staffed and with dirty cups on most tables.

Got totally ignored by 4 members of staff they were to buys making a coffee of another member of staff that was clearly off duty. Horrendous customer service

Warm and welcoming, nice range of food and drinks. Staff are friendly and humorous and very helpful with fast service. However theres only two toilets which are often in use and water on the floor.

Coffee bar, Costa - know what to expect, coffee good, cakes etc pricey. Need more staff - tables always crowded with uncleared dishes.

The wheelchair and pram access is difficult as the button is broken and had been for months

Lovely staff.The shop itself is unassumingly large,which was nice as plenty of space to relax.Clean as well.Ordered soup & toast,Americano & Superfruity tea..all arrived very quick & soup was nice & hot.Definitely worth a visit.

It's ok. But the morning staff aren't the friendliest and I'm not a huge fan of the coffee. However the space is great and it's good for morning meetings with clients.

Clean and tidy and a good service .

It was market day in this lovely town. Being market day I wasn't sure that it would be very easy to find somewhere to sit and have a coffee, so I was pleased to find Costa Coffee, my favourite chain.I'd never been here before and though busy, a lot of customers were buying drinks to take out. The narrow frontage didn't give any clue about the room inside...it stretched quite away back from the entrance and there were plenty of seats.The queue of customers was being served quickly and efficiently by the two staff behind the counter. My order was taken and I paid by debit card. I was about to go to my table when 'Lauren', the very helpful and 'on the ball' young lady who had served me noticed that I had forgotten my debit card which was still in the card reader!The coffee and cake were well up the usual high Costa standard, and I can thoroughly recommend this outlet, which I think must be a recent addition to the town. Both Lauren and her male co-worker seemed cheerful in their work which in turn 'infects' their customers as evidenced by the way they in turn responded to these two.Thanks again Lauren for saving me from losing me debit card...it would have spoilt my trip to Sudbury and caused a lot of inconvenience!

I absolutely love Sudbury Costa, the staff are lovely always helpful and always have the best smiles, I visit a lot of Costa's but this one is by far the best of the lot :) this is the kind of staff all beverage establishments should have , well done Costa!!!! Xxxxxxx

Excellent Costa. The male Barrista must be one of the happiest People I have ever met working. Passionate about his coffee. A real credit to the organisation. Well worth a visit.

I normally love it here but visit would have been nicer if I hadn't been forced to listen to one of the baristas nasty comments about her co-workers while she was on a break. There's a time and a place for that and it definitely isn't while customers are sitting next to you.

We had not intended visiting Costa Coffee, but in the end, we were forced to. All the ‘independent tea rooms’ in the town closed up shop very early in the afternoon leaving us with no option. No issues with this Costa, you know what you are going to get in the way of coffee and cakes. It is a large café and is better than many Costa’s

Me and some friends bought some Iced Coffees and the ice had some white compound inside it. Do not recommend.

Absolutely Shocking!!!! Toilets are Disgusting, should be ashamed as far as hygiene goes, dirty cups and plates left everywhere, gives Costa a bad rep! Would definitely not go back for a second visit!

Normal Costa range and quality. Dirty toilets and tables not very clean hence lower stars. Usual fairly pricey drinks. Nicely laid out with some comfortable seating.
