We dined one evening at the Lavenham Greyhound while staying in Lavenham. Our sense is that this is a former pub that is repackaging itself as a tapas restaurant and wine bar, which is fine. We thought the food was very good and the setting attractive. One thing that kept our experience from being excellent was the somewhat lackluster service. We were in a back area called the "snug," which was indeed cozy, but once ensconced, we rarely saw any server and had virtually no contact with anyone in service. This was a perfectly nice place for a meal, but not quite exceptional.

Great find tucked away just off the High Street. Great outside space to sit in the sunshine. Dog friendly. Fantastic choice of delicious tapas dishes and lovely, friendly service. Ticked every box for us.

Best Sunday roast i have had in sometime, we had the pork, chicken and beef, all of which were very tasty. Extra gravy provided on request and delicious side order of Cauliflower and Broccoli cheese. We will definitely be back and hope to try the Tapas next time

Fantastic pub with great food … staff very friendly and I highly recommend the seafood paella! Definitely worth a visit when you are in Lavenham.

An impromptu visit where we enjoyed a sharing chicken skewer lunch out on the patio area with a nice glass of wine and a pint. Nicely presented and the chicken itself was very flavourful. Service was very good and friendly (especially from Daisy). She cared for us and our dogs. We would be very happy to return . Many thanks

I enjoyed my cod and chips 10 out 10 for that but not a lot of choice of drinks .

Disappointing. We ordered a meat board which was pleasant enough but pretty basic which we shared between two people. We then ordered chilli and garlic prawns which was nothing special and pork schnitzel which was tough and dry with tomato sauce. The bottle of wine we ordered came already opened. Not at any time were we asked if everything was ok. We didn’t stay for dessert as we felt that none of the food was made with any passion. Won’t be coming again.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Roast chicken and roast pork very nice. Son had kid's roast, which he loved. Big bowl of cauliflower cheese on the side to share was very nice. One of the nicest roasts I've had for years.

We had a full Sunday lunch with roast pork, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. My absolute favourite was the cauliflower cheese side. Apple sauce was available and gravy could be separate or additional gravy provided depending on your preferences. It was a good meal and priced well especially as Lavenham eateries are on the pricy side. The staff were efficient and helpful. I would eat here again.

Been many times tapas plates were very very good as usual. Finished of a nice spa day on the way home.. Staff and the atmosphere very friendly, good age mix so intimate but lively..

Large family group visited for Sunday lunch, booked 4 weeks in advance, v busy, menu as listed on line, we ate a mixture of pork, beef and chicken roasts, all freshly prepared, tasty and large portions, served with v good Greene King beer. It was an excellent lunch and I can understand why the restaurant is so popular. I can strongly recommend here and will revisit.

Fantastic dinner and delicious dishes in a great setting. Stuffed peppers and paella were highlights. Sharing three tapas dishes and a paella was spot on for us. Busy night but the two staff who were managing the bar / serving were incredibly efficient, polite and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening so will definitely be back. Book in advance to ensure you get a table.

Never been to Lavenham before so, we had a lovely walk and ended up in the Greyhound. We hadn’t booked but the staff were really accommodating and found us a table. We had Roast Pork with the biggest Yorkshire pudding! The meal was absolutely beautiful. Plenty of food and really hot. I would definitely go back and if you want a good traditional Roast dinner go to the greyhound.

I’m giving this 5 stars because the food is AMAZING! Cannot fault it in anyway… however, the staff really are miserable. More so the women strangely. No eye contact or smiles or a thanks when we left. Disappointing when the interior and food is just so lovely.

Wine with a 110% mark up is a bit rude. But the food was delicious.

Well worth a visit We had just finished clearing the cemetery of Moss and grass from the parths, to tidy with Greg from the lavenham Butchers and John Heeks, from Heeks and son and many other volunteers, So really enjoyed the lovely meal, Love lavenham great community support

We went on Easter Sunday for a roast with our daughter and her partner ( 4 in all) - all i can say is that the food was awful - chicken roast was ordered and a beef roast and a so called vegetarian tart - the chicken and beef were tasteless, the roast potatoes were like bullets and probaly frozen, the vegetarian tart was inedible. The staff were not very welcoming, and I witnessed a waitress pick up a yorkshire pudding to place back on someones plate - she was not wearing gloves !! The bill was £100 so not cheap for a main and two ice cream desserts. We will not be repeating the experience .

My friends and I came here for a midweek meal. We were utterly disappointed. It was overpriced, and half of the menu was unavailable. The food that we did have was mediocre at best. I would not recommend.

Great menu of small plates. We had the best Chateaubriand for a long time!

My wife and I just had the sharing mussels and it was delicious. The service was first class. I would definitely recommend this establishment

Visited mid week, fairly busy, ate excellent sharing paella with 5 other tapas plates which was ample for 4, v good Green King IPA and Timothy Taylors beer. Many thanks, a good evening.

Nice place to eat with a contemporary vibe. The main dining area is spacious which is such a change from sitting at a table in a crammed restaurant. Excellent service with good fresh food. Somewhere on our list to return.

Such a pretty place and nicely decorated, we loved the decor and the roaring fire It is so refreshing to go to a pub with lovely different food choices which is tapas style food. We had the seafood paella which we shared and thought it was great value. The potatoes bravas were delicious. Staff were attentive and we were made to feel welcome. We will definitely be back soon.

Booked Sunday lunch here before we departed Lavenham, mostly because they said they could offer a vegan Sunday lunch option and the dog would be welcome. Table was ready immediately even though we were early which was great. Waitress wasn’t overly friendly but came and took our order promptly. When ordering it was clear one of us was vegan but when the food arrived, the vegan dish came with a Yorkshire pudding on the plate, which wasn’t vegan. The cauliflower/broccoli cheese which came with the roasts was brought over shortly after, but again this wasn’t suitable for vegans and no thought went in to offering a plain option of the side dish or offering something else, she just wondered off 🤷🏼‍♀️. The roast beef was delicious, it was cooked beautifully, and their horseradish sauce is amazing. All in all an ok meal, good feeling about the place but the staff need a little education about what it is to be vegan and to offer some alternatives where possible. Oh, and maybe look to offer doggie roast dinners, they’d go down a storm and there were at least 5 dogs in there when we were there - you’re missing a trick ☺️

We attended the Greyhound Lavenham prior to a concert at Lavenham Church. The whole experience was excellent. We received a warm welcome on arrival, service was efficient and not rushed throughout, the tapas could not be faulted, real ale on tap. They were extremely busy with a full service both pre concert and for the general evening service, they deserve success. Will certainly return.

Absolutely awful service. Made to feel like we were the problem as we perhaps dared to ask for food at lunchtime . Two female staff too interest on their phones to bother serving. Asked a question on what the special was of which the server was going to find out, then she proceeded to serve a regular who she thought she would deal with and have a little chat before returning to tell us what it was. Food absolutely not worth it, came very close to walking out, wish we had. Asked for the bill, it didn’t arrive as again too busy on phone to bring it, so walked to the bar and paid without even being offered a bill to check. Clearly a pub that lives on location rather than customer service. Absolutely not recommend.

Went for tapas on a Saturday afternoon; the food was great and the service was brilliant. We had a large selection of tapas and also 2 sharing boards; all were very tasty. We didn’t try the cocktails but they also had a large selection on the menu and a very extensive drinks list. They lensured we had enough space for a pram and a high chair and even kept our daughter’s teething toy behind the bar for us when we left it behind, and kindly washed our daughter’s bib. We booked because we have had a couple of great roasts here, we will definitely be back again for tapas too!

Great tapas! We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside. Our table by a roaring log fire was perfect and the food was really tasty. The service was excellent (thanks Darcy and everyone who looked after us so well).

Back restaurant is bloody cold! Sunday runs was good, service was average. Still waiting for a table waiter!

Everything about the Greyhound was wonderful from the warm welcome we received at the bar on our arrival to the superb food and service that followed. The staff was super efficient and charming, even when rushed off their feet. The lovely decor and welcoming fires added to the special experience. I just wish we had this as our local, I might never cook again!

Lovely decor. Fantastic Roast. The beef was so tender and tasty. Staff were lovely but had to wait 30mins for our table, not a huge problem for us though, it didn't affect our overall experience. Will be back!

Excellent tapas style dishes for a shared light lunch.

Lovely decor, very relaxing, calm yet with great choice of music in the background, open fire. We had the chicken skewer dish on the shared menu. Followed by a pleasing dessert. Absolutely gorgeous. If we were in the area again we would definitely make a visit.

We were quite disappointed with this restaurant considering it had been recommended to us. I booked early in the day, but we were seated out the back which lacked atmosphere and was a bit cold. The front was much cosier and had a log fire. The food was average and lacked flavour. The garlic and chilli prawns seemed to have no chilli. All 5 dishes we chose came out at once which meant some became cold. My partner wanted dessert, but we didn’t see any wait staff once our first meals were delivered.

Great spot to meet for a long lunch with friends. It was a hot day and we had a fantastic table outside and chose a great selection of the small bites to share.

Excellent choice of small tapas dishes all of which were very tasty. Two dishes each and one side to share is recommended. Lack of beer selection which is to be expected for a Green King establishment which is why I gave 4 stars.

The Greyhound is a pub converted into a restaurant. We did a late lunch so were able to sit in the bar area, there seems to be lots of seating behind. Great to have tapas as a change from normal pub fare. We had lamb...

Reasonable food, lovely building (particularly the old part) and pleasant staff. However the service was rather slow and at one point we seem to have been forgotten about completely whilst waiting for a desert menu. We waited so long that we decided to skip dessert...

Friends have recently moved near to Lavenham, so seven of us, travelled from Essex for lunch. Our friends had recently been to The Greyhound and had highly recommended it. Our table was booked for 2pm, so we all met in the bar. There's a small...

Very disappointing! The tapas dishes were bland, uninteresting and small for the price. Definitely not the high standard it used to be. One member of staff needs to learn some hospitality skills. Such a shame as I wanted to take my daughter and her friend somewhere special, but apart from the surroundings, it was far from special.

Disappointing, we have visited before and food was amazing, this time it was a different experience, staff couldn’t be bothered, we wasn’t offered any condiments, food was like it was a microwave meal, the cauliflower cheese turned up halfway through our meal, the beef was still mooing it was that raw!

Super staff , great food, lovely timbered village/town. Ancient Guildhall with National Trust tea room too.

An exceptionally interesting range of dishes some of which could be paired, and were well cooked, Staff were very helpful and did everything they could to accommodate specific requests. Have been here twice and hope to return.

Lovely place, but sadly we didn't have the best time. My friend took me there excitedly, saying the food was lovely etc etc... but unfortunately we had to send back 2 of the starters we had, after waiting over an hour, they just weren't what they said they were. When we arrived they told us we could have the table until 2pm (giving us almost 2 hours)... after waiting for so long for a child's meal and 3 starters, we were then told they need the table back. It wasn't very well organised and no one seemed that bothered that we weren't having a very good experience. There was barely even an apology for the inconvenience. I wouldn't recommend it, and my friends that used to go regularly won't recommend it any longer. Sorry for the bad review, but it's better to be honest.

I love the menu here. Small dishes so you can mix and match, think tapas style. Food is excellent and cooked with obvious skill and understanding. Will definitely visit again in the future. Dog friendly.

What a lucky find today. The Lavenham Greyhound. Excellent food, different and very tasty. Great staff, who were so busy but still so helpful. Lovely atmosphere. We will be going back again.

Went early to ensure we could get a table indoors with our 2 dogs. Felt under pressure to order quickly, Food was ok, service ok but conversation between staff and regulars not for visitors to necessarily hear; wouldn’t visit again.

The food was really pretty good and fresh. However, this was spoilt by the staff having a vain, slow and unwelcoming approach.

We had the sharing plates of seafood and cheeses with bread. Good quality, sufficient amounts.

To the person who gave just 1 star- We were at the Greyhound the same time as them. Our food was excellent, the service was prompt & served by 2 delightful young ladies who couldn’t do enough. The manager- actually the owners- was extremely polite...

I really enjoyed the meal and drinks that I had at ‘The Greyhound’ yesterday. Staff were friendly and the menu was interesting with a good variety of small plates (and some larger ones) on offer. Costs were reasonable for the quality of food. Although some of the larger plates such as paella take 25 minutes to prepare, it’s possible to get others delivered earlier and the timing worked perfectly. To be recommended. We had a small dog with us and the restaurant is dog friendly.

What a little gem ! Just came back from there after a short visit to Lavenham. Staff friendly and attentive, environment is lovely and the food - fabulous. Highly recommended

I've been here before and both times were excellent. We only had aperitifs and some nibbles (squid and aioli plus haloumi fries) but it was all gorgeous as was the service

The Greyhound does tapas to the T. The food is excellent, with everything freshly cooked and perfectly executed. We had a mixture of 7 plates consisting of fish, chicken and sides which were all great! I would especially highlight the crab linguine. The atmosphere of the pub is very good and it is also very pretty. As well 7 plates of food we also shared a bottle of wine and a couple of other drinks which came to just over £100, which I think is very well priced considering how good the food was. We will definitely be going back very soon and I would recommend to anyone due to the wide choice of options.

Came here on Saturday night and the food was great. Ordered a mixture of the small plates and the shared platter. It didn't disappoint. A special mention to Joel as well. He was attentive throughout the evening.

Came for dinner, really outstanding food. They largely do a selection of small plates that you pick a few each from - lots of veggie choice too which is nice. Service good, nice aesthetic. Really highly recommended.

Food was tasty although I forgot to take pictures! Fillet of beef was lovely~ Pineapple/ginger mocktail was not great. But the apple/elderflower mocktail was nice, even though it was a bit too sweet.

Was very disappointed with our experience at the Greyhound today. Firstly, the biggest let down was the staff. The 2 ladies on duty were absolutely disinterested in serving, and many mistakes were made. Our starters were delivered at the same time as our sharing main courses. There wasn't enough room on the table and plates were not cleared - despite there being 3 courses!. The food was stone cold. 3 orders of the beef were ordered rare, yet 2 arrived medium rare. The greek salad was so wet it was limp and soggy, yet had absolutely no Greek dressing on it. The paella was absolutely disgusting. The rice was extremely dry and undercooked and the handful of muscles and prawns on it were overcooked. At no point did the staff ask if everything was OK. We had to get up to get serviettes and clean cutlery. We didn't eat desert because we got fed up of waiting. I spent nearly £200 and would NEVER eat there again. The only saving grace was the jus that came with the beef, that was nice! Beware the reputation of being amazing because of the location - this restaurant needs to retrain the staff and speak to the chef about the standards in the kitchen. Totally disappointed 😞

Food had excellent taste and flavour, with good selection of vegetables, what a pity main course was almost cold, just barely luke warm. Service could have been better.

Really nice place to eat. The food tasted great, it wasn't overly filling and the price was amazing. The staff were friendly and were quite happy trying to find us a spot as we hadn't booked a table.

Just popped in for drinks on our way home from dinner, but was greeted with a friendly warm welcome. They were just about to call last orders but didn't mind up coming in. Great atmosphere, lovely decor, warm welcoming roaring fire. Highly recommend.

A really beautiful pub with a large and comfortable outdoor seating area and fantastic food. The halloumi fries and the paella were both memorably good, but the opportunity to enjoy lots of dishes at this “tapas” style pub made for a tremendously enjoyable meal. Great service and friendly staff, as well.

My husband and I fancied going out for dinner so phoned up rather last minute and booked a table at The Greyhound. I'm very happy we did! It's a beautiful building inside with lots of character and the food was absolutely delicious! The halloumi fries are definitely a high point! I don't drink much alcohol so I was very pleased to see some mocktail choices on the drinks menu too (The Elderflower and Apple mocktail was gorgeous) The staff are also very friendly and attentive. We'll definitely return soon and recommend this restaurant to everybody :)

Very poor Sunday lunch. We booked but it 2 hours to get our mains when it came it was cold globby gravy and yorkshire ,miniscule chicken portion and fatty cold beef. Very disapointed. Either no chef or on holiday. Left after 3.5hrs tired and hungry

Excellent selection of quality local fare. Superb and attentive staff who couldn't be more helpful. The sharing platters were particularly enjoyable. This is not your normal pub but a very attractive evening venue for special occasions. We particularly enjoyed the lighting and ambiance it made you want to stay longer. Highly recommended for lunch or evening dinner.
