Ordered a Sunday roast for 2 people for collection and was alloted a time to pick it up. Arrived at the time and was told by a staff member to join the queue at the carvery. Was then handed 2 food containers and was told to help myself, which was slightly awkward as I was on my own. Pointed out that on previous occasions when I had ordered click and collect, my food was always ready for me when I arrived but was told by the server that they were too busy to do that for me on this occasion. I wouldn't expect to order a takeaway from my local Chinese then be told I had to box it up myself. Not really acceptable. Emailed you as you asked 3 days ago. Still not heard anything back so you're obviously not that bothered. Very poor customer service.

Very disappointed this evening, went for sons birthday, ordered from table money taken from account waited 20 minutes nothing arrived at the table! Had to go to the bar and was told me they had issues with some payment methods.. had to reorder and pay again was told other money would not been taken. Starters arrived but no drinks... drinks then went to the wrong table ... no cutlery or napkins on the table, drinks then had to be re done as other table tried all the drinks they got sent to their table. Finally got drinks after almost an hour of waiting! Had main course and decided to order takeaway cake... 20 minutes later still no cake. Had to go to the bar ... not 1 but at least 4 staff walked past clearly saw me waiting yet I wasnt acknowledged.... finally caught some bar staff attention and finally got the takeaway cakes... no real apologies from any staff at any point! Throughly disappointing especially being a meal out for a special occassion... Not one member of staff even came to the table to ask if everything was ok...!!

Fish and chips were great. but carvery was cold and delivered in one small tray and looked like food for pigs, and was cold. don't order carvery for delivery...

Came yesterday for lunch with my mum. Had the new bean burger and yorkie wrap. They were both amazing. Staff always so helpful and kind can't wait to try the rest of the new menu.

food was ok, expected more for price. had lasagna and it was smaller than my hand. some staff are nice but unfortunately we had a young kid serving and was obvious he didnt want to be there, was short, not helpful and it felt like when asking for something was a lot of effort for him. also totally forgot to bring our drinks, we got our meals brought out and had to ask where the drinks we ordered were. very doubtful we will return in future as many other places with better quality, bigger portions and friendlier staff

Not a good place for vegetarians. There are only three options for the main meal: bean burger, macaroni cheese or cheese and potato pie from the carvery. I opted for the bean burger. The chips were sadly luke warm and not all of them totally cooked through. Burnt is the best way describe it. Not a suggestion of moisture left in the burger, the bun or the cauliflower wings! You could mostly taste carbon with bbq sauce. Tougher than most meats I encountered in my meat eating days. Given the lack of choice I did my best but had to admit defeat before my teeth gave in. I am not a born again anything so this isn't a moan, just trying to help those who prefer a vegetarian lifestyle and the chain who own the pub. I would have loved a wrap option or the carvery with just the vegetables. If this was possible going forward we would love to come back as the staff were helpful and it's a nice enough venue. Just a shame about the lack of options and food that seemed to have been cooked by someone with an intense dislike of vegetarians!

Ordered cakes. For the second time now staff can't get any orders right. If I could give a 0 rating I would.

Went in to have some dinner, table was still a bit damp but at least it was wiped. They were doing a carvary roast dinner ,and a normal menu. We had food off a normal menu. We had halloumi ,chicken strips, portion of chips, garlic bread, and the chicken. Schnitzel I enjoyed mine. My daughter found two hairs one on the chicken strip and one on the halloumi, Fry's, so that wasn't enjoyable and we asked for two diet cokes and we got two Dr peppers instead, I felt like I was in a retirement home and we were the youngest people, in there having dinner. Not a nice atmosphere and I'm sure , carvary roast dinners went out in the '80s but overall 3 out of 10. Not a good experience at all👎

We booked a table on what we expected to be a usual busy Sunday…we had to wait a couple of minutes for our table to be sorted which was fine but when taken to the table we noticed and felt like the table had been just plonked randomly right next to the carvery queue and that we were completely in the way! After asking the manager on duty if it was possible to move he brushed our request off and never returned to speak to us so what was supposed to be an enjoyable birthday meal out turned into a very quick dinner!!

So many things wrong. Steak was chewy like ghandis flip flops. And the carvery well potatoes dry,beef dry, cauliflower cheese no taste of cheese and Yorkshire puddings tasted burnt overall very poor food and will not be visiting again.

Possibly the worst meal I’ve had out in years - absolutely no atmosphere - unfriendly staff - dirty cutlery - queued on my own for ten minutes at the carvery to receive over cooked vegetables and cold dinner absolutely shocking - I wouldn’t bother - terrible service and cold food

Always a great experience here. We had the breakfast buffet today and as usual it was great, plenty of choices and good coffee. We eat here quite a bit and have never had a bad meal. The staff are always very friendly and happy to help. We would recommend eating here.

We come here alot and have always had a good experience, service is always perfect, food is always perfect and the atmosphere is perfect aswell. The place is perfect when I take my little boy here also as they have a little play area that keeps little man entertained.

Only reason for giving it at 4 star is personally to much butter on and in vegetables and stuffing didn't even try as it looked not great,and didn't like the roast potatoes however I would still recommend this place as it was yummy 😋

Normally come here quite a bit but what the hell has happened to the quality of the carvery?! Mash was like rice, gravy was literally brown water, Potatoes were like rocks. No taste whatsoever... really disappointed. Plus side, the young lad who greeted us was very friendly. Sorry to write such a poor review. used to really hype this place up but after today, can't say I will be back anytime soon.

Guy who was cutting meet decided to show someone how long is hair was and run his hands through over the food and then cut the meat they do not understand food hygiene the vegetables counter had food leaf all in between the food didn’t look it had been cleaned since they opened and the gravy was all congealed and sauce only one spoon had been used for the whole lot food was absolutely disgusting

Amazing pub very friendly and helpful, food is delicious and the cakes that are baked on premises are soooo good, would definitely recommend.

Didn't even get to eat food waiting at the podium they tell you to wait to be seated and all the staff just walk past you.

Back again for a work leaving do. Very busy in restaurant but still fantastic service. Your waitress Tania was fantastic. Efficient and so cheerful despite the busy demands and having a fall earlier in the day, so hobbling around . Can’t recommend this place enough.

The hunters chicken was like rubber, it couldn't be eaten.

Not the greatest, the food was okay I guess despite the overly cooked steak and undercooked chicken, completely forgot about 2 of the desserts claimed it was a technical error (got them in the end), the manger touched the childrens ice cream with his bare fingers because the wafer fell to the side (he should have left it and not touched it at all absolutely disgusting and unhygienic ) tables took way to long to clean, my friend complained that her chicken burger was still frozen in the middle and the manager after waiting 20+ minutes for him to arrive offered her 2 slices of cake IF she changed her review. The waiting time was too long (it wasn't even full as there was lots of empty tables waiting to be cleaned) left over food over the seats from previous people (so we cleaned it ourselves) I can't say I will return however the young gentleman (baily ) I believe his name was?, from the carvery station was fantastic, as my friend told the manager to give him praise he said "write it in your review" rather then actively telling him. Very disappointing to say the least. Maybe it was one of their "off" days..but I won't return personally.

The carvery was of very poor quality and there was very little gravy, potatoes were rock hard. I never experience this in the pub but the takeaway is always poor, I don’t appreciate being given poor quality just because they can get rid of it. Wasted money

Was there Sunday & Abi the waitress was very attentive & sound. She was helpful throughout my visit & I will come back in the future. Someone should her give her a pay rise! Excellent service.

Carvery wasn't at its best as food was cold dirty table and menu waitress cleared 2 people's plates while 1 was still eating which left the one who eating felt uncomfortable and made them think of eating quickly . Think customer service should be a priority and not made to feel rushed and table turnover quickly

Had a carvery here today, a group of 9 of us went and what an absolute waste of money this was. The food was already cold when we got back to our table and to make matters worse we we're stuck under a great big air conditioning unit. We requested for it to be turned off but with no response 🙁. Last time I will visit this place 😠

We always come here for a meeting it's a great atmosphere with amazing food and a great staff. They are always happy to accommodate a large group with no issues to us wearing hi-viz. They are always welcoming, and we love it here. The food is always plentiful and delicious. we love the variety, and if there is anything that has run out, then they endeavour to fill it back up ASAP, they even bring things to the table when they are out so the service is incredible! Thank you for the amazing food and great atmosphere!

I regularly dine in many 4-5 star hotels and firmly believe that the staff serving and helping you make a restaurant. I recently took my wife and son to the chestnut tree for breakfast for my wife’s birthday on Thursday 8th August. The two ladies working that morning truly made it a very enjoyable experience. They constantly went far above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. If you are looking for somewhere to go for a relaxed meal or to celebrate the chestnut tree is a MUST. Congratulations to ALL the staff you are doing a fantastic job keep it going see you soon

8 min awaiting to get served, only 1 famli on counter, personal chatting and laughing, after pointing we get served with anger No bread for anader 10 min.... I didn't get my coffee. Gret place very poor service and lack of care.

Been here a lot, But tonight was awful!!! Really disappointed! Spent quite a bit to and shouldn't of paid for half of it. Mains came out when still eating starters, lady offered to take mains back but knew they would just sit under heated lights for another 10 mins. Why did they come out if not called back in, or why didnt someone check the table? No one asked if the starters were ok either! All the food including starters and mains were warm/cold ,we left do much food! Nachos worst ever had no cheese, tasted disgusting and bland! Halloumi so over cooked, I wouldn't of sent these starters and meals out! Chicken Medley didn't come with breaded mushrooms, the chips on the scampi plate so undercooked and hard and all bruised. They were awful. Lady offered to get more chips so we agreed but they came once 3 ppl out of 4 had finished. I asked why no mushrooms as no one said why and i was told we don't have any! However on the app you could order them as starters and wasnt sold out! So why did you suddenly not have any??? We were asked would we like something else but was asked once 3 ppl had finished, they offered a drink but we had already ordered 5 and literally just ordered an extra one! Spent over £80!!!!! Really disappointed! I'm shocked the kitchen were happy to send any of this out.

We booked a table and a gentleman (who I believe was the manager) went to show us to our table to then say "oh looks like someone's decided to sit there" and told us to go to the bar and order a drink while he found us a table. Took about 15 mins to be given our drinks at the bar (there was only one person in front of us). The manager was struggling to open the cork on the bottle of wine as the opener wasn't very good and again just caused more delays. The wine glass we were given was filthy and we were then given a replacement which was equally as filthy! When I then drank the wine, it was full of bits of cork. The food wasn't much better unfortunately. It was brought over without cutlery so my partner went to ask someone who said they'd bring it over. Again, the man who I believe to have been the manager brought this over and practically chucked it on the table and gave us a dirty look as though we had inconvenienced him. The food was extremely bland and the chicken in the burger was like cardboard. We didn't complain at the time as we could see the staff were extremely overwhelmed but we definitely won't return again.

We used to come to the carvery before and thought we’d pop in for a cheeky one but sadly we did not book so could not get one. I have to say, I have never seen a more horrid plate of food. We ordered a pie and mash and the mash was so crispy and dry that it looked like rice! The pie was microwaved so was soggy and the gravy was lumpy. Quite frankly I am not sure why it even came out of the kitchen. We left soon after and won’t go back again

Definitely one of the busiest restaurants in Ipswich, would recommend booking if you want a table that way you won't be disappointed. They have some great staff and they have kids eat free

We booked a table for 10 for my sons 18th, had to change the time- no problem.I took a cake and balloons there before which they kindly kept for us for later.All the food was great, my son had a wonderful birthday celebration. A massive thanks to Aiden and his team… we will definitely be back.

The food was nice but they had run out of quite a few things and the Beef was very fatty and chewy this time around... The staff did give us a complimentary slice of cake as an apology, it's good that our complaint was dealt with there and then.

We had a very good time and Gemma and Julie was very good with making sure we were ok and making sure everyone had a good time
