Chestnut tree farm in Babergh

5 of us had the festive 2 course carvery. The food was fairly tasty but not piping hot and the plate was only warm which quickly cools the food.

I enjoyed my visit at Chestnut Tree Farms carvery, and had a delicious festive turkey carvery with all the vegetables and trimmings to go with it including stuffing, cranberry sauce, and roast gravy. Although not placed in a splendid setting it is easy to find and well set back from the hassle and bustle of the busy A12 Colchester Road. Will recommend to friends for the tasty meals at low price here.

First time at the restaurant, very impressed, food was very good and served hot just as I like it. Desserts were very good. We will be back. Thank you.

We always enjoy a carvery here but today was different. The person carving the meat swore when talking to another member of staff and he put them down in front of us. Although the meat was good along with the yorkshire puddings the rest of the food was poor. Roast potatoes were hard and dry, all the veg was watery and over cooked. No one asked us if our meal was OK. Completely different experience this time which is a shame.

Me my mother my 7 year old daughter and 10 week old daughter all visited the ipswich branch on Saturday 14th Dec at 430pm...after trying to book a table 4 times online without successes we decided to take the gamble and just turned up...to which we was seated straight away as close as we could be to the child play area as requested due to being busy. On first meeting a gentleman was very kind and helpful, once seated we ordered our meal and drinks at the bar with no problems. When our meal arrived my daughter chicken nugget and chip meal consisted of 4 nuggets and 11 chips which looked lost on the plate for what was paid for it....both me and my mother ordered the yorkie wrap which had a choice of potatoes, of which we chose rustic/roast potatoes...both plates turned up.with chips to which the plate thay was put in front of me the lady who brought them lost most of the side to which she sold sorry and would get more...I kindly said that both were supposed to come.with rustic potatoes not chips.to which she aggressively picked up.my mums plate i then said its fine will have the chips to which she then ignored me then walked away without a word with a attitude. Once she returned with my mums plate with no chips and now potatoes she then again aggressively slammed the plate infront of my mother followed by the words "enjoy your meal " with sarcasm....nowwe get its Christmas and its busy and mistakes happened but there is ways about dealing with them which she clearly didn't handle well...pulled the manager aside and just explained what happened and his response was shocking too!! He basically just said "well.do you want chips instead then?"....we explained no this wasn't the issue to which he just walked off aswell.....now I wasn't asking for a refund or to change our meal we just wanted to let management know what the issue was and to maybe have word with the younge girl who delt with us but clearly seems to.start with management....wont be returning

Tried the Turkey and Ham pie off the festive menu was extremely filling

Ordered through To Good Too Go and wow there was enough food in 2 boxes to feed 3 people

Good carvery with a great selection of veggies and the cheese mash is to die for. The staff are always extremely busy and hard working

Breakfast for my birthday with my parents the food was tasty

Basic food ,one manager up himself, the rest of the staff were nice

Fantastic carvery and very busy but the staff were still very welcoming and most in the festive spirit with xmas jumpers and hats

Absolutely dire carvery was cold and horrible. Eaten here before and been excellent. Very disappointed.

Visited the chestnut on Friday they were so busy it was a good job we booked all the staff were running around working really hard

We booked a 60th birthday meal on the evening of 30th November 2024 for 18 people. When we arrived the tables were poorly arranged so we couldn't speak to many of the other guests as we back to back with them. The food, particularly the carvery was poor. The beef was extremely hard to cut so very difficult to eat. Some of the vegetables had run short as was the gravy, my sister had to notify the staff. Some of the guests food was missing from the pre order and the personal table service was non existent. At the end of the evening when we went to pay they couldn't even do the bill properly. Due to the lack of communication we have decided to cancel our christmas dinner booking we had already done and paid a deposit ( now lost ). Overall not a very good experience. We don't normally complain but we feel now we should. Mr.S Barnes.

Tried the Christmas Celebration Menu. Went for the Loaded Yorkshire starter followed by the Turkey, Leek and Ham pie and wasn't disappointed. Arrived promptly despite the place being extremely busy and was steaming hot. Thoroughly recommended.

Food all very good and the service was attentive not much waiting at all. We had a great experience at the Chestnut - we ordered from the Christmas menu it was very good value!!

Nice atmosphere service was a bit slow, but the food was very nice.

Not very pleasant at all. Some of the order was missing, one of the curry meals had frozen chicken in it, which was reheated and the returned without the naan bread. Children were running riot in the play area, staff and parents not bothering to tell them to calm down. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Not as good as it used to be, veg was overcooked, and roasties were not crispy, although the meat was excellent. Will probably try something other than carvery next time, so definitely will go back

After ordering the carvery my wife my two daughters and myself was served by possibly the rudest human being. We have ever encountered out . His demeanour and disgusting communication skills were atrocious. The food in general was overcooked and have a low quality. This was my youngest daughter’s 18th birthday completely ruined . for this reason, we will never visit the chestnut tree in Ipswich again

My evening started with an extremely rude gentleman working behind the carvery, he was very unprofessional and unpleasant. He made our family feel so uncomfortable! we were taken back by his demeanour. The food was such low quality. The roast potatoes, stuffing and yorkshire's were stone cold and hard and the vegetables were soggy and cold. Will not be returning.

Went for carvery option faced with a very rude server . All 4 of us noticed this . Food was awful overcooked everything . Soggy veg. Leathery Yorkshire puds. So disappointed . Nobody finished their meals ! Unlike us . Will not be returning sadly

Unorganised queuing to buy drinks and pay for food with only 1on the tills. Salmon was dried up small, awful. Potatoes were boiled in skins with no butter herbs etc and all the eyes and black pieces left in. Less than a tablespoon of peas with a sauce I know not what. Dreadful meal. Poor value at £8.95. I shall not be returning.

It's not bad for a chain pub and the Yorkshire pudding wrap is excellent

We came today (01/12/24) for a booked meal, there was 21 of us, but when we got there we were 2 chairs short. We were also many knives and forks missing. We got told to order via the app due to the size of the party, but as we were paying individually this was not possible. There was multiple issues with the food order; there was many different food orders being brought out incorrectly. There was also food which was cold, and some not fully cooked. These things did not get mentioned as we found the staff to be rude so no one felt comfortable to say it. The different staff who were bringing out the food were rude and made comments about the orders being wrong, trying to blame us for the mistakes being made. However, we know what we ordered and when something else was brought out and we said it wasn't us, the member of staff was adamant it was ours. We did not get asked during the meal if our food was okay and some of us didn't get asked if we wanted any sauces At the end we were getting ready to leave trying to make sure we said goodbye to everyone, but a member of staff told us we had to leave now. He was very rude and it was practically being thrown out. Not everyone had a chance to say goodbye which has upset people. It was very rude behaviour and attitude.

Man on the phone couldn’t tell us whether the food was suitable for ceoliacs. We know there is a gluten free menu but just wanted to see if the food was completely safe such as cooked separately. The man on the phone then told us to look on the website to see if it’s gluten free and told us he couldn’t tell us if it’s suitable or not. We didn’t end up going as we were not reassured at all and didn’t want to risk getting ill.

My pie contained mostly very hot gravy and two small pieces of meat. Mash was cold. I was hungry, so I ate my meal regardless. I ordered an orange juice. The drink I got was orange in colour but was not fruit juice.

OMG!!! My wife met up with friends for a meal and a drink tonight and kindly brought home a takeaway carvery for myself. Initially after opening the container it thought wow! There is a lot in here until emptying the contents on to a plate. Lots of vegetables but where is the meat? After searching about I found the thinnest slice of beef that looked like it had been cut with a razor blade a few shreds of chicken and the tiniest piece of gammon I’ve ever seen!! After speaking to my wife she said it’s always like that. So disappointing ,It’s fair to say that I certainly will not be spending anymore money here in the future. Shame on you.

Just been for our Christmas Meal today at 12.30 with priory heath ladies. Thank you so much for an excellent meal it was lovely and hot and very delicious. The staff were first class couldn’t do enough for us and all very pleasant will definitely be going here again thank you very much.

Absolutely love coming here! The staff are so friendly and helpful, the cakes are so big I had to take one home with me to share with my partner! Defo love this place and will be back.

Came in this afternoon and was served by a young girl called Darcie she very helpful, it was a pleasure to have her as our waitress even though it was very busy she still had time for us and our family

Had a click and collect beef carvery from The Chestnut tree, had a 15min drive home and it was still a good temperature to eat. The vegetables were a little under cooked.

Busy place on a Sunday, but staff coping well. Darcie the waitress works hard, patiently waiting for our order and we often change our minds in a group! Five stars all round, food was good too.

Great place to visit. The carvery food was really tasty and kept nice and hot; the turkey was so tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful. Recommend a visit and we'll definitely be calling in again.

Came across this establishment when visiting family and dropped in. Food was excellent and the staff very attentive to our needs especially when asked about allergens. Will definitely be returning when in the area again.

I came for the first time with boyfriend was a bit confused but staff were helpful we had a carvery lovely food 😋 the only thing is there was very little meat given 3 enough to give a mouse sorry but would have liked more meat and the gentleman behind giving the meat please smile 😃 you look like your on death Rowe but what lovely food also had a cake to take home which was very big but lovely 😍 will come again 😀

Can get busy on a Sunday, particularly for the carvery. Can be a long wait for service at the carvery counter as they also dish-up the takeaway orders from the same place. When it's busy, I think it would be a great idea for takeaway orders to be dealt with in the kitchen to help.

Lovely staff, the food is nice. Much better than other carvery providers.

Had the smoked bacon cheeseburger and exactly like it says on the menu, you can’t beat a classic! Would highly recommend.

What a lovely experience. We popped in without a booking but we were welcomed warmly and a table was found for us. The food was excellent and although they were busy, we didn’t wait long and the atmosphere was so pleasant that we enjoyed our time. The staff were lovely and I only wish I lived locally so I could make it a regular haunt. Fully recommended

This carvery is absolutely brilliant! The staff are amazing and so welcoming! The food is top quality, reasonably priced too! It is such a friendly atmosphere when you go in, everyone is smiling everyone welcomes you. I had breakfast there and they cooked the mushrooms in butter! I have never had that before it’s so nice!

An absolute Gorgeous carvery. The food is top quality, the staff are so friendly! It is the ideal place you would want to go for a good Sunday roast or even a midweek roast! They also serve breakfasts which are an absolute slice of heaven! Eggs cooked perfectly and so much variety to choose from! You have to visit here!

We had the breakfast which i have to say was well worth the money ! The food was hot and freshly cooked a large range of items bacon, egg with scrambled and fried, beans.The mushrooms cooked in butter were just the best I have not been anywhere where they cook them in butter, definitely will go back for those and the sausages were so tasty. The staff were all friendly and welcoming we were shown to our seat and the play area was an added bonus. We will definitely be returning there again and next will try the carvery and the cakes which looked amazing . Also they have a range of alternatives for people with allergies and vegan and vegetarian.

Great family carvery restaurant - ample space - great family area (although not all tech working - still space to play for younger children). Food is always good and very reasonably priced. Blue light card membership discount too (2024).

The food has always been brilliant every time we eat here, the carvery especially. Mark is always really inviting and helpful. We always love coming here.

Really lovely food but the staff members were appalling, we were served by Kaci on the 30th October 2024 and she was very miserable and pulled faces at us which we found really unwelcoming.

Took relations from the Midlands down on holiday for the midweek carvery. We didn't book just popped in & it was packed !! ( probably due to half term school holidays) Huge carpark so no problem parking.Staff were lovely soon fitted us in & the food was excellent & such good value.The chef carving the meats (think he was Aaron or Nathan) was working so hard with a smile like all the staff here .That means so much to have amiable , helpful staff .Second time I have visited here & will certainly go again & recommend it Well done to all staff 😊🤗

Very disappointed with the food. It was our wedding anniversary spoilt our day.Food was very dry over cooked would not recommend people to go there.We will not be going back again. It was 7 o'clock at night very bad service one staff on food counter very slow service all round have been there many times before very very poor service this time

Came in because my hotel restaurant was fully booked until late in the evening and was glad it was. We were greeted pleasantly on arriving and shown to a table. The pub was busy but had tables available. Had the midweek carvery and cannot complain. The food was very very good. Well prepared and presented. Good price too

Nice place but they always run out of beer especially Abbott ale and sometimes no glasses either, service is not good not enough bar staff, food is good most of the time.

We went here for breakfast, never again! We arrived and the only staff member we could see was talking to someone, so we waited by the bar patiently until them finished. They clearly saw us and it became obvious that the person they were chatting to was a friend. So we carried on waiting. Eventually they stopped and instead of coming over to us they turned thier back on us and started cutting up lemons! I had to say "I'm sorry but how do we go about ordering or paying for breakfast?" Before they would give us the time of day! They were friendly enough when serving but jeez, what ever happened to customer service! The food was edible but of poor quality.
