This is a fantastic little find. It's a feeling of a country pub meets town pub. We visited to see a band City Sounds and stayed for a few hours. Tge carpark is plentiful for quite a few cars and the location is convenient for driving or walking from Sudbury or Great Cornard. We walked through the smoking area then through the beer garden outside seating area and we're pleasantly surprised with how nice it was. Perfect fir a sunny evening. Once inside it wasn't that 'slaughtered lamb' feel you can get walking into a new pub but we're warmly greeted by the staff. The drinks were reasonable priced if a tad on the dearer side but not savage. The pub regulars were a nice friendly bunch and everyone had a great night dancing and singing along with the band. Highly recommended and a well deserved solid 5 stars.

I can't recommend The Kings Head highly enough, apart from the fact that the food qas amazing, the service was good and prices fair, the Chef came in half an hour early as we requested an early booking. We offered to go in later, but the chef insisted he was happy to accommodate us. Now the food! We had haddock and chips and steak omg steak!! My son insisted he was in food heaven the steak was huge! And cooked to perfection, the chips were delicious and the onion rings oh the onion rings, they were literally the best ever. Our haddock was cooked perfectly and again the chips were delicious. If you are ever in the area a vist to the Kings Head is a must even if it's just for the onion rings

I recommend the Kings Head double cheese burger, the juiciest burger I've eaten to date, nothing dry about this tasty dish. The burgers were seasoned to perfection, the cheese melted as it should, the sauce, lettuce and gherkin were fresh and complimented well. The coleslaw was seasoned beautifully, freshly made too! Lewis is an excellent chef. I'll look forward to trying more dishes from the menu.

I visited the pub with three friends at the end of July. Upon arrival we were informed that we must sign our details, which we did. Myself and one of my friends went to the bar whilst the other two stood outside finishing their cigarettes. As I ordered my drink the other two came into the pub, at this point the man that requested we give our details over informed us that they are no longer serving (despite having already taken our order?). To rub salt in the wound once we had left we saw another couple turn up and were allowed straight in. I assume they had started serving again? We were all very well behaved and polite, I'm not sure what the issue with serving us was. Appearance? Skin colour? I will not be returning, nor will I be recommending the establishment.

After trying their delicious take-away fish & chips a couple of weeks ago, my wife & i decided to order 2 Sunday roasts from them the other day. A friendly member of the King's Head crew, delivered the large, polystyrene containers (still hot!) at the time promised and we couldn't wait to check out the contents and get stuck in! Wow... Upon opening the boxes, what an assortment of treats was revealed. We'd ordered the 'mixed' roast and there was a generous slice each of chicken, pork & beef, surrounded by roast spuds, carrots, broccoli, stuffing etc. and topped off with a rich-looking gravy. We soon got stuck into this roast feast and the taste was as good as the appearance. In particular, the thick slice of beef had all the tenderness of best rump and was obviously carved from a 5 star joint and expertly cooked by the King's Head chef. I've got a good appetite and the portion size didn't disappoint either. Looking at the food photos on their Facebook page, there's a few other dishes that I'd like to audition in the near future. In the current crisis, it's great to find a pub supplying top-rate take-away meals at prices that aren't a rip off. Well done and keep on with that good food!

Walked in and wow bland decor ,no pictures on the walls or welcoming fires, rock music was pumping out, children of the staff running and screaming in the bar area, a few people at the bar who appeared to be friends of the barmaid. We were going to have a meal but instead we turned around and went elsewhere. Not for us.

Went here with men of family for pool and a pint. However, there is a nice twin bar area for a bit more luxury and the staff are all very welcoming. We saw the menu and decided to give it a try. They do a selection of quite adequately sized starters which although in the £4 range individually, can be bought for 3 for £10. If you add a couple of sides like curly chips with cheese and onion rings, the whole thing suffices as a meal for two and comes in at around £7 per head. We had ribs, southern fries chicken strips and barbeque chicken wings. The whole lot was well prepared, well presented and delicious! Others tried the burger range. They were all very satisfied. There are several other choices which are all well priced! Give it a try for a cheap and lazy midweek meal. Why do the dishes when you can eat this well so reasonably!

It amazes me how this bar has a decent rating, well, they must be from friends of the bar. The bar is only open part time, and why is that? Because the only people it attracts is the local druggies and lowlifes. You won’t find anyone with any kind of standards drinking here, and trust me, you’ll be surrounded by 16 to 25 year olds. It seems the Ark is happy with this clientele, as the majority of Brantham know it’s known for this kind of thing. This “bar” is a failing business and will continue to be, unless it actually makes the effort with attracting the right customers who will make others comfortable drinking there. This bar is bad news and I would avoid. I have lived in the village for a long time and it’s such a shame, but you hear all kinds of rumours about it. Every time I drive past it seems it’s never open. If you prefer somewhere a little more classy then try the Brantham bull. The Brantham bull makes effort to provide a service for the elderly and actually wants to succeed.

I visited recently on a Wednesday lunchtime to look at the pub where Wall of Death showman George 'Tornado' Smith lived. He had a famous location at the Kursaal, Southend, the largest Fairground in southern England when it opened in 1901. In the early '30's this was the first Wall of Death in the British Isles. 'Tornado' was also famous for his pet lioness which rode on the handlebars of his American Scout motorcycle until it became too large so a sidecar was added!! Locals in Boxford were not surprised to se him walking his pet in the village but I'm sur e it caused consternation along Southend seafront! There are quite a few photos in the delightful pub and what looks like an early advertising sign for the Wall of Death. The pub serves Mauldon cask beer from the excellent brewery in Sudbury. A large coffee machine provides excellent coffee to accompany the lovely cakes on display. Apparently arrangements are being made for cooked food in the evenings to augment the current panini menu. As we were only on a fleeting visit I cannot provide ratings for food etc.and at the time is was quite quiet.
