Very average food not great won’t go again. Curry was nice. Burgers tasteless and no salad just chips. Tiramisu - good choux bun with tasteless gloopy grey custard. Awful. Expensive and more than my weeks shop for mostly bland food. Serving staff pleasant if a little slow. Nice view.

The waitresses were helpful and friendly. There were floor to ceiling windows with amazing views of the Orwell bridge. The food was slightly overpriced for what there was, but it was still very good. I had a hot chocolate whoch was very good and worth the money, but i also had pancakes with orange syrup, which weren't as impressive considering the price.

The general impression was of a sloppy and disinterested attitude. The person serving us was uncommunicative, unsmiling. She got the milk wrong for both the tea and coffee in our order of 3 drinks. I'm coeliac - 1 choice of cake, not a popular flavour. The tea was tasteless, too. The tables weren't cleaned. Never again.

Booked afternoon tea online where it asks for any dietary requirements. I sent details through and promptly received a reply saying we couldn’t alter the menu. Why on earth do they ask for requirements and then refuse to do anything about it. SFH is tip top price wise and frequently seems to be a disappointment

Very limited menu compared to what they used to have. The service was terrible. We got told off by one of the serving staff after getting a napkin from another table because they didn’t set our table even though we booked it. We had to chase a drinks order. The food was dry lacked flavor. The kitchen staff couldn’t accommodate a simple request to swap bacon for avocado even though this was on the menu. The food was also overpriced for lack of quality and a basic menu. The only good thing about the place was the view.

My sister and I came for afternoon tea. It was delicious. The sandwiches were very fresh and the scones were the star of the show in my opinion. Lovely window seat on a sunny day. I did ask for a clean plate after having the savoury items on the original one, perhaps that could be taken on board. Overall, brilliant.

We had a lovely lunch as usual. Good value. Amazing location. The Cookhouse was a bit noisy. It was difficult to hear my friends who were sitting less than 1 or 2 feet away from me. Not sure the changes in the restaurant have helped. However, still a local favourite for us and we'll be back.

Popped to the cafe for something hot after a dog walk. The place was heaving and the queue was long. I waited and ordered 2 extra hot chai lattes. When I received my drinks I took them straight to the car. When I took a sip I was surprised to taste tepid milk with a hint of ?gingerbread. I basically paid £7 for 2 warm milks with a hint of flavoured syrup. Had I been in the cafe I would have taken them back. I would expect a premium drink from the Suffolk food hall, rather annoyingly Costa does a 100% better chai latte. Won’t bother next time

Lunch in the cafe on a dull Saturday afternoon. Long queue a good sign the food is okay. Lovely location great views and a nice shop to browse around. Greeted by a smiley young lady on the till who was very helpful. Not the most substantial menu but at least 10 different cakes to choose from… We had the sausage cheese and red onion toastie on granary bread and it was the best toastie I have had in ages. Perfectly toasted and the chutney accompaniment was yummy. Fruit scone for desert was light loved by my wife. I would have preferred a touch heavier and a little more fruit. Yes it was a little pricey at £30 inc drinks and they could give out the slightly larger Rodda’s clotted cream. However some if the cakes started at less than £3 so I guess it seemed pricey due to food price inflation. As always the question is would I return - undoubtedly YES

How would you feel if you waited for more than 1 hour for your food to come ? The kitchen seemed to be run professionally, and I very much enjoyed my lamb and the extra gravy. We were very grateful to one of the waitresses, who advised us not to have dessert as there would be a long wait. The staff and the customers were getting a raw deal, as the staff were rushed off their feet, and the diners were having their patience sorely taxed. A lovely venue derailed by bad management. P.s. it didn't help that the waiter sauntered like a haughty popinjay. Looking forward to your reply

Very limited lunch menu, what we had wasn't particularly tasty, and it was overpriced. Nice view and outdoor sitting area, and coffee is good, but we're ultimately disappointed and not likely to return. You'd think given there's quite an expensive gourmet food hall here that the cafe would have a more imaginative selection.

Absolutely terrible and the service was even worse. We had afternoon tea with no tea, 20 mins after we asked for tea, teapots arrived with no cups. The waitress then asked us if we would like cups….i think we were expected to drink out of the spouts. The sandwich bread was hard. Fillings were bland and boring, I make better sandwiches in my child’s school pack up! It took 40 minutes to serve our pre ordered food. The cakes were very bland, either very mushy or very dry! Not worth £5 let alone £18!!!!

My husband and I were visiting with a couple of friends. There was a good selection of cakes, from which I chose a cinnamon bun. It would have been helpful to be given a cake fork rather than a knife as the bun was incredibly sticky. I ordered an Espresso, which was almost undrinkable as it was extremely bitter. Fortunately I had only ordered a single shot and the coffee was served with a welcome glass of water! My husband's cappuccino was also bitter but less so as it was, of course, diluted with milk and cream. After speaking with other friends, I found similar complaints about the coffee. Will we visit again? Probably not.

I wish I'd read the reviews first. The best thing about this restaurant is the wonderful view of the river Orwell & the bridge. The restaurant is upstairs, no lift or signs as to what a disabled or limited mobility person should do. There was no menu at the bottom of the stairs so you could decide if the struggle up was worth it. (The toilets were back downstairs again)! There were water glasses on the table but no water jug was brought. The menus were given and we were asked for our drinks order at least 10 mins later. The drinks came after another 10 mins. We had to prompt the waiter to take out food order. The simple things took far too long and it wasn't busy. The food was mediocre; not amazing. Burnt brioche bun, overcooked steak, too much oil drizzle & not enough gravy. Simple things that spoiled what could have been a great experience. Yes it's expensive but I don't mind paying for excellent service & well cooked food. Sadly not here.

Telephoned the Events Team mid afternoon on Monday 6th January to enquire and organise a funeral reception. A gentleman answered the phone to say that the lady who dealt with this was with an event going on, but that he would arrange for her to telephone me back when she was free. The next day, I hadn't heard anything back, so I telephoned again at 12:50, the same gentleman answered the phone again and gave the impression that he was surprised that the lady had not phoned me back. He told he would get her to phone me right away. At 2:30pm, I gave up on them and booked another venue. At 15:43, I received a telephone message on my answerphone from the elusive events lady to say she missed me with this call and would call again. It is now Wednesday 8th January at 2:55pm no other call has been received. All I can say is that if trying to organise something with them is so hard, how good are they going to be actually carrying out the event and KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH YOU.Maybe you have so much custom you don't need the extra custom, maybe you couldn't care less, or maybe you need a new events organiser.I have given you one star, if I could give you no stars I would.

A fuss to begin with as to whether we could be accommodated, the restaurant was 3/4 empty at 12.30 ish. A table was arranged. After a while three menus were distributed amongst 16 of us. Another wait and the drinks order was taken. My Dahl & sweet potato curry came as a splodge of luke warm orange mash in the middle of the plate, crispy onion on top & nothing else at all to relieve the orange boredom. It tasted as bland as it looked. My friends meals at best were OK but all round the portions were too small and at worst tasteless, pureed soup looking and tasting like baby food, and again lukewarm. Overpriced and quite disappointing. The room was echoy making it hard for staff & customers to hear each other. The best feature was the view of the Orwell.I note reading previous reviews that feedback would be used to improve the service - doesn't appear to be having much effect.

Booked a table for 6 adults and 3 young children to celebrate my daughters birthday with my family at a Sunday lunch. However, despite booking and arriving on time we not only waited 85 minutes for our lunch to arrive but found the food to be very poor quality considering the prices being charged. The food had obviously been waiting on the heated counter a considerable amount of time before reaching our table and despite the plates being very hot the food was certainly not! One of our party was unable to eat her meal due to having to attend to one of the children who was now tired and irritable after the very long wait. No one came to out table during our long wait to either explain the reasons for the very long delay or to see if we needed any further liquid refreshments. We complained to a waitress who was very charming and sympathetic, she agreed that the waiting time had been unacceptable and as a gesture of goodwill offered a refund on the uneaten meal. However, when going to settle the bill it was found that no refund had been forthcoming and the waitress informed us that the manager would not agree to the refund. After challenging the manager directly about his decision to overturn what had previously been agreed with the waitress he reluctantly authorised a refund of the cost of the uneaten meal but with no apology in any shape or form for our disappointing experience. We are not the type of people who usually complain or write bad reviews but this is not a cheap restaurant and on this occasion felt it appropriate to share our thoughts.

I regularly visit the food hall and really do like how they present their goods. The coffee shop is very nice although the seating plan is a bit muddled and the range a little limited on the menu. The biggest issue I have is the cost of anything in there. It seems the modern country living retail world is growing and with it the prices seem to be soaring. Team of 6 in recent quiz night and enjoyed a great night out. The ticket price included a complimentary drink on arrival and a delicious 2 course meal. The pork was delightful for the main and melt in the mouth. Dessert was a white chocolate cheesecake and accompanied with a raspberry sauce which together worked extremely well, and this from a non-dessert lover as I usually either pass or select the cheese. With a full bar available to compliment the event this makes for a thoroughly enjoyable night out and a bit of fun with the quiz as well. The large open plan area can be a little noisy as there are no real sound deadening qualities but with views across the estuary it makes for a glorious vista.

I regularly shop at the Suffolk Food Hall and so therefore was delighted to try the food at the cookhouse. There was 28 of us. When we arrived it was welcoming however when the food arrived there was 1 piece of small toast with the paté starter to which seemed a little steep. The mains were delicious however luke warm and each person had to ask for extra gravy to warm it up but even that was not piping. The vegan dish was unthoughtful, just veg and pasta. The dessert - the treacle tart was advertised to come with custard but came with cream and the fruit crumble and custard again was a tad on the cold side. When we all went to pay we thought the bill was amazing for the amount of people but the restaurant failed to mention they had taken the deposit off the bill; which was not pre-arranged or even discussed nor was the £70 service charge, leaving the person who was lovely enough to leave a deposit out of pocket and this was not known until majority of the party had left.

We had breakfast at the restaurant and was very disappointed, especially considering it came to around £30 for 2 people. The restaurant has so much potential given the beautiful view and the fact there were about 4 or 5 chefs in the kitchen. We both had the sizzler breakfast at £8.95 each. For my husband, this came with one pork sausage, one anorexic rasher of bacon, one fried egg, some mushrooms, half a grilled tomato, some fried (not saute as they claim) potato discs, and a small portion of baked beans. We were offered toast as our food was presented to us, which we accepted, but later realised on seeing the bill that this was an optional extra. For my breakfast, I am vegetarian and can't eat hollandaise sauce or mushrooms. The restaurant didn't have vegetarian sausages (unusual for a breakfast venue) and did a vegetarian sizzler breakfast for me, which contained one fried egg, a grilled tomato, some fried potato discs and a small portion of baked beans. I still paid £8.95 for this, which seemed steep considering. A token discount for the meat and mushrooms I didn't have would have been welcome, although to be fair my plate didn't look vastly smaller than my husband's, given how sparse the portion sizes were. The service was good, the location lovely, the venue is clean and well presented. However, the food sorely let it down and we won't be returning. There are places locally nearby who trump this quality of breakfast by a long shot (and cost less). It lacked enthusiasm and passion for what makes a good breakfast. A few small changes could really make a big difference here.

High quality fresh produce but most of the packaged items in the food hall can be purchased in any other farm shop or supermarket. Vast majority of products not produced in East Anglia let alone suffolk.

On holiday and thought worth a visit. Loved the selection of food items, specially the Bread. The specialties such as Gin Raspberry Jam at a mighty £6.50 and the cheeses including Truckle were tempting. Yes, we spent a few bob but stayed away from items you could buy elsewhere at much lower prices.

Having attended the tractor fair I was dismayed to watch how food was being handled. The young girl serving on outside was handling money and then replenishing the stock of sausage rolls etc with ungloved hands from the boxes. Admittedly when serving customers she used tongs to put into bags, bit late really ! I raised this inside and a member of staff told her there had been a complaint but “ don’t worry about it “ I won’t be eating there again!

My family came here to have a light lunch, all ordering toasted sandwiches which came with a side salad. The wait was a little longer than you'd expect for toasted sandwiches, but that's understandable for a small cafe. What eventually came out however was not understandable, with the cheese and ham toastie containing barely anything at all, with ham barely even visible once opened up. The bacon and brie was a similar level of disappointment, with about 80% of it just being onion. To top it off, the "salad" wasn't a salad at all, it was 5 small leaves topped some salad dressing, nothing more. The location was the only real saving grace, as the food wasn't up to standard whatsoever.

Great new menu since last visited. Coffee was delivered by a delightful girl speedily even though busy. Unusual earl grey black currant cake. Wow that was good. Kids had lunch boxes. Good price and quality contents. Finished our visit off with a lovely ice cream. Keep up the good work.

Brought family for lunch and had a wonderful cheddar cheese salad and cheese scone and coffee andcake! Though a little expensive overall there’s no doubting the quality ingredients and preparation and the whole lunch was a delight. Then purchased some frozen prepaed meals for the evening at home and they were gorgeous too. Steak ie in red wine!

We had to book a table which was at 16.30, arriving at 16.20 we were seated and drinks and afternoon tea order taken, drinks came. A hot meal was ordered from the menu, the hot meal was delivered and eaten , it was very nice, so am told. A further 20 minutes , 40 in total after we had arrived, the afternoon tea was delivered, Not sure anything on the plate should of taken over 30 minutes to prepare a few sandwiches and a selection of cakes. The cakes were very nice I may add, the service however was not so...I may add that the restaurant was not very busy at all, wouldn't fancy going on a busy day/evening.

The idyllic view and delicious traditional, warming food can not be faulted. However the word appalling does not justify the service! To be seated, not offered a drink and watch the customers who arrive 5 minutes after you be watered and fed was the starting point. After getting the attention of a waitress, to be told 'it's not my section', very quick to snap back, but not to serve the customers, convenient. Finally having given our drinks, which only consisted of coffee and orange juice and took a measly 15 minutes our food order had not been taken. I persisted to speak to the nearest worker to me who happened to be a manager, of which he replied 'we are busy' (not busy enough to take the orders of the later arriving customers surrounding us). I did portray my expression of dissatisfaction, however there was no apology, in fact an argumentative tone to his voice. The worst moment having had taken our order and walked over to process it through the till, he sniggered and smiled at the abrupt waitress. The service I can honestly say was no better than going through a drive through McDonald's. Unfortunately this is not an isolated issue as the same manager has been very rude before, this is the final straw and we will not be returning. In an remote location with little passing trade, they would be wise to improve their staff to keep customers coming back.... all the best to future attendees we hope it improves!

The menu is limited but the food served was not a bad standard but was not very hot, given that it was absolutely freezing in this restaurant it didn't help. Eating lunch in coats and scarves was nor enjoyable.

Service was VERY poor paid extra for function room! 0 service arrived at 2 afternoon tea came around 3:20 after asking waitresses when it was coming!!! The dry sandwiches and cakes came out with no plates or knives lucky one of us had got a coffee spoon. Again we had to find someone to actually get us some plates and knives plus remind them we had not had any tea this arrived at 3:45 !!! The manager came out and offered us a bottle of Prosecco which was a nice thought but at £15 a head this afternoon tea was over priced and spoilt the celebration. I would not recommend at all

This is essentially a shop with fresh fish, fresh meat and fresh vegetables and most other things for the kitchen including wines and spirits. There is a small coffee shop in the centre and at the far end is a very good shop aimed at present buyers. Worth a browse and the Cookhouse restaurant which is separate is excellent.

We have eaten there several times in the past and have always been more than satisfied with the service and the quality of the food hence the reason to recommend to friends that we meet and eat there. This time the service was poor with the waitress reading the specials,in poor English, from a hand written menu which she couldnt give to us, so this took several attempts. We asked for hot mustard and was told abruptly "no hot mustard" but after asking another waitress it eventually turned up. The food was just not good and was very dry with no flavour and over cooked. The atmosphere in the restaurant was one of no one bothering whether the service and food were ok and it seemed to be getting tired and slightly run down. When a friend complained to the manageress about the food and not being able to understand the waitresses English the food issue was ignored and she was accused with the coverall standard phrase that she was racist. I told my friend to take this further but she didnt want to make any further fuss

We have eaten here many, many times, introducing friends and family to the delights of locally produced food, cooked with innovation and flair, at reasonable prices. How things have changed! Having not been for several months, we met friends for Sunday lunch and were stunned at how quickly things have gone down hill. Gone were the large menu sheets, offering local Red Poll beef, Blythburgh free range pork and locally sourced seafood. There were just six starters on offer and FIVE main courses plus a roast. Of the five deserts offered on the laminated A4 menu, one was unavailable and the two we ordered looked like they could easily have been bought in. No wonder the place was empty when we arrived and only partially full when we left. Never again. If we wanted straightforward pub grub we could have gone to far better venues and paid a lot less.

Nice venue, but service not good, order was mixed up, had to chase up to get what we ordered. Customer service not what you would expect. Although large volume of people service goes a long way. Cakes were quite dry. Nice coffee and tea though

I have reviewed this place back in September 2016 and I loved it. However now, I feel the standards and the passion doesn't seem to be in the atmosphere anymore. I went to the cafe for lunch to get some fresh air and to basically to get out of the flat. As you do, thinking of a place that reminds you a place to go that brings relaxing memories, The Foodhall.

Table for 4 booked for 730pm. Arrived promptly but put our order for dinner but 3 of our orders were already sold out at 730pm! My goodness, what will will eat they did not have any back ups, and our party had to make do. Come on we booked early in the weekend, and they were not full then, why had they not put extra away in case of over orderring? I do not think this restaurant will survive, come on, they were not even even full!!

Interesting and varied menu, good price, friendly helpful staff. We have small appetites, so just had a starter and dessert. Both were excellent, the dessert was light and fluffy. The pub had been recommended by a friend, so we tried it but it was so good we went back again the following day.

Booking is essential. Staff are lovely. Service slow. Food very big portions. Good variety of gluten-free and other allergies options. The small bites are very large 4 pieces of garlic bread. Ploughman's freshly cut thick ham. Unfortunately, the gluten-free bread was very stale. Herb butter was really nice. Cheese was really nice Big portion of salad. The turkey sandwich fresh and full of filling.
