Surprisingly busy for a Saturday, pleased I booked a table in advance. Good variety on the menu, drinks served quickly by a very friendly waitress. Bit of a wait for the food, but the restaurant was busy, well worth the wait, piping hot food and great value for money. Would definitely recommend

The Beagle is easy to find on the outskirts of Ipswich and has a pleasant environment and a welcoming front of house team, We were seated and our food and drinks orders were taken fairly quickly. However, it went downhill after that. Our food took about 45 minutes to arrive, even though it wasn't very busy when we ordered. The other person in our party had Mac & cheese, which was ok but burnt round the edges. He likes it like that but I prefer my food not to be burnt. I did something I've never done before in a restaurant - I sent my food back. The battered fish was so tough that I struggled to cut some of it with my knife, let alone eat it. Battered fish should have a crisp, bubbly batter - this one had a greasy, very flat coating. Triple cooked chips should be crisp on the outside and soft inside - mine were not at all crisp so, if they had ever been triple cooked, they had been left so long that they had gone soft. On the positive side, our waitress was brilliant. She was very apologetic and immediately offered to replace it with the same or a different dish. I decided to go for the pie, which was tasty - although it took another 30 minutes to arrive. She also arranged for me not to be charged for the fish or the pie as some compensation for our experience. The pub has a brilliant, if overworked, front of house team but clearly needs to sort its kitchen out if it is to attract repeat business.

We had very good service by Ruth today, who is a new member of staff. Very smiley and friendly. The pub always has a friendly and cosy atmosphere. We have eaten at several different places, and we have found that The Beagle can not be beaten by the taste and quality of the roast dinners. The produce is top quality 👌

Five of us came for lunch as it was my daughter's birthday. We ordered food and were advised that there was a 20 minute wait. This was acceptable. It turned out that we waited 55 minutes! Apparently there was only one chef on duty. If we had been advised of this we would have gone somewhere else. Seems that the Beagle is happy to take people's money but not provide acceptable service! The food was ok when it eventually arrived, but the vegetables and potatoes were cold. By that time we just wanted to eat and avoid further delays. (it wasn't cheap either)

Worst restaurant we have ever been to… waited ages for our food, baked Camembert was so over cooked there was hardly any cheese left! And the other starter was cold. When we complained they had no more Camembert left. The mains eventually came out and the lamb was stone cold including the gravy and the lasagne was you (guessed it) over done…the waitress was good though and tried her best..but management letting food like this out of the kitchen should not be in a job.. there were so many complaints while we were there yet the manager was no where to be seen. The waitress gave us a discount card for next time we come..that is a complete waste of paper..

We had an excellent waitress called Tab, bothing was too much trouble. I ordered the chicken and pancetta pie, husband had rib eye steak. When mine arrived it was the beef and ale pie lol but didnt mention it or moan as it was still really gorgeous. Receipt showed chicken and pancetta so prob a mix up in the kitchen rather than the order taken. Wine was very pricey 2 glasses £21 !!

We were very excited to bring our son to The Beagle as it was always one of our favourites when we lived nearby. When we arrived we were about 40 minutes early, we received a warm welcome but couldn’t be seated, so were seated right by the dining area with a promise that menus would come. They didn’t. We got drinks and borrowed a menu from another family nearby. Despite the server walking passed us repeatedly and smiling, we then had to jump up ten minutes after our reservation to ask how long our table would be before it was ready. We were told they would still be awhile as they were on their puddings so she quickly sat us on an empty table in by the entrance. Could this have not been done earlier? My husband queried how long the table would be (as was a nice table by the window) but she said they would be awhile so we accepted the table in the entrance. Sadly no menus or drink orders were forthcoming after waiting, so we asked a server who said she would chase this up. Eventually the menus arrived ( no bank holiday special which we found out afterwards should have been offered and my husband would have gone for that option). Again had to chase down someone to place our food and drink orders. The food wasn’t quick but when it came it was just ok. Sadly not great, a bit dry. Not much fish. Portion sizes have drastically reduced. We waited ages for the plates to be cleared and menus offered for pudding (when we found out about the bank holiday menu). We would have had this but realised we had run out of time. The whole process had taken so long we couldn’t even get 2 courses in our 2 hour window. We had to go to the bar to pay as no one came to take payment. When we complained to the young lad he kindly gave us 10% off and apologised, which was needed to be honest. He was the best employee by far that day. We would have been happier leaving then but didn’t appreciate the shout out from one of the lady staff member of “heathens” when we left. We did a double take as we were nothing but polite the whole time and our only mistake was bringing our son to a pub that let us down. Such a shame and disappointment. Good old memories ruined sadly.

This is the 3rd time we have been to The Beagle in the last 2 months, and past visits have been so good we took our daughter tonight who was visiting. The main course was excellent however after that service was very slow. We waited ages for our plates to be cleared and asked for desert menus but then had to ask again as these didn't turn up. I had The Honey Pot previously which was excellent (one of the best desserts I've had) so we all ordered the same, the waitress mentioned the mousse hadn't quite set but we said fine but when it came the presentation was poor and a real disappointment. Did not seem to be enough staff, and we heard customers complaining they had been waiting a long time for tables. A real shame, we will come again but having been seated for 2 hours for 2 courses it did dampen the whole experience

I’ve never had a good meal in here and I’ve tried multiple times thinking maybe they were having an off day the time before. We arrived today about 1.20pm, pub was usual lunchtime busy but not full. We paid £58 for calamari & prawn cocktail to start and the fish and chips and fish cakes with veg and new potatoes. Considerable wait and the calamari arrived verging on cold, it tasted like it had been sat there for some time. I don’t expect much from a prawn cocktail it arrived a fairly limp effort. We then waited almost an hour for our main course which was underwhelming and not even a “sorry for the wait”. I will add I’m not expecting gourmet from a vintage inns pub meal but at £57 quid I was expecting some decent pub grub. The fish cakes looked like they came from Iceland and although at least a better temperature, were nothing to write home about, served with some limp broccoli spears and very dry new potatoes it wasn’t at all aesthetically pleasing or tantalising on the tastebuds. The fish and chips was only ok but pathetic in portion. The best thing about this meal was the two Peroni’s. Suffice to say I shall not bother to try again here, such a shame as nice pub but just not cutting it with the food.

We decided on going to the beagle to celebrate 3 birthdays and we probably won't go back, the food was of a reasonable standard but the service just lacked something! The young man that served us was polite enough but didn't seem very experienced and it felt like he was just muddling through ( that may just be down to the technology he had to use to place the order though what is wrong with pen and paper? ) little things like getting the drink wrong and not replacing cutlery when it had been used in a previous course didn't help! I wonder whether some training is needed of the front of house to make the whole experience more welcoming?

I don't like leaving bad reviews but in this case I will make an exception. I admit that when we arrived it was slightly busy (Friday lunchtime.) We sat and waited....and waited. A waitress came and took our drinks order and we waited....and waited. 20 minutes later we had our drinks. We waited and waited.....10 minutes later our food order was taken and we waited......and we waited and we waited some more. After half an hour our food finally arrived. It was good and to be fair, equal to other similar establishments. If we had not waited for so long to start with this review may be better. Sadly though on this occasion first impressions made the difference. Not sure if we will visit again the next time we are in the area. Food good but service very poor.

Have been using the Beagle since it was converted from cottages in the 1980's. On the last few occasions that we have visited with friends and family the service has been extremely poor, in fact the worst we have experienced in 30 years. As we waited to be greeted and escorted to our table several staff were going in and out of the kitchen and passing us without acknowledging our presence. However it did give us a chance to see inside the kitchen where we spotted some one cooking wearing a woolly hat. Always ensure you get a drink from the bar before going to your table or risk a lengthy wait. Several of the menu options are likely to be 'off', especially roast chicken for some reason. During the evening after the desserts are served the staff disappear into the kitchen leaving no one to take orders for coffees, liqueurs, etc. On the last 2 visits we sent someone to find our waitress, on the first occasion she brought the bill without us asking for it so we took the hint and went home, on the second occasion she told us she was in the kitchen getting sauces ready for the next day, she did take the order for the coffee but when we left said "Goodbye trouble".

We were staying in Ipswich staying at the Premier Inn - next door to The Beagle where we had stayed before, so we naturally booked a table in The Beagle in which we have also eaten before and had been really pleased with, so this time we invited our family to join us as a treat. There were six of us, 4 adults and 2 children, it took 20 minutes for someone to take our order and we then waited a further 50 minutes before the food arrived. The children had a pasta dish which was ok but a bit on the cold side, we had also ordered 1 x duck dish which was overcooked and so dry it was like it had been cooked and then left to sit and was then microwaved before serving, 2 x fish and chips where the fish had been cooked so long it had shrunk inside the solid batter and 1 x seafood risotto consisting of one scallop sliced into three, four prawns and a pile of soggy rice smothered in a smelly cheese. Needless to say we declined a desert paid up and left. We won't be going again, I was so disappointed. It was awful.

I travel a lot for business but stopped using the premier in next door because the Beagle was so bad. Anyway, we ended up here again this week and we though we would see if the beagle had improved. No it hasn't is the very simple answer. Firstly, it took 10 minutes to get served at the bar. One guy behind the bar was very busy but he was surrounded by staff who I would describe as "pacing their workload". The guy had to rectify a meal which came out incorrect with no sauce (no surprise there), fetch cutlery which was not done (no surprise there). This meant he was not serving behind the bar and during this time the bar stopped. The girl "assisting him" who was left behind the bar did lots of walking around, disappeared from behind the bar to have a walk then came back just as the bar man came back to have to catch up on all the people waiting as she literally did nothing to help him. Every time somebody wanted serving she would walk off. It appeared she simply wanted to avoid doing anything at all and her tactic was to walk around looking busy but actually doing nothing. Anyway we sat to eat in the restaurant which was pretty empty. I had a pea, ham and pecorino croquette starter which was simply disgusting, bordering on inedible. Just warm, it was the strangest thing I have eaten. Three little bits of ham and I mean these bits of ham were crumbs. If you can imaging cutting a ham joint on a chopping board you always get crumbs and small flaking bits come off the knife. That is the size of ham bits in the starter of which I had three. Peas were cold as were the croquettes. I know pecorino is strong but this was a cheap tasting strong and without being crude, I think everybody has vomited at some point in their life and the taste of that afterwards we will all recognise. This croquettes taste just like that, it was simply disgusting. On to main. I had the steak pie which uses the old tactic of puff pastry over a pie in a bowl. Once you peel back the pastry it reveals almost no pie. Bowl the pie was in was about 200 mm diameter and maybe 50 - 60 mm deep. Pie at bottom was 1 cm deep if that, the rest is fresh air and puff pastry. God bless the kitchen heat lamp because the main had clearly been ready for a while as the heat lamp had put a crust on the mash but in doing that, the bonus was it kept the dish just above cold but sadly it was not strong enough to keep the peas warm. Our waitress (jordie girl) was very good and attentive however it must be demoralising to keep seeing poor reviews of this place. She was clearly trying her best as was the man behind the bar but they are surrounded by less than interested colleagues and the state of the food sits with the chef and no where else. To send food out with heat lamp skin on, plus food which is cold is simply poor on their part and shows lack of care and interest. Did I complain at the point? No I didn't because I expected the Beagle to be poor and it delivered just that. Again, we will avoid for another 6 months or so and come back I at some point I suspect to see if it has improved. Hopefully it can because it has such potential but it has a long journey ahead of it to get anywhere like acceptable in our opinion. A careless, care free attitude of the staff (except the two above) and a chef releasing food without attention or interest to their end product would be my summary.

Very disappointing.Service extremely slow. Had to chase up drinks order. Wine bought to table but had to go and request glasses. Food served to table then had to wait for cutlery. Four sirloin steaks were almost inedible. Hard to understand the positive reviews, it is obvious this restaurant is being run by too few inexperienced staff.

Walked to this pub from the holiday inn where I was staying on business. On arrival it was a little hectic and the service was a little all over the place. I could say they were busy but it wasn't at capacity so more like a little understaffed. We were warned of a half hour wait for food but it wasn't that bad in the end. Ribeye was not bad (I ordered it medium well and I should have gone for medium - my mistake) the chips were absolutely superb, really crispy. Friends pie looked pretty good. The Malbec wine - one of the cheapest - turned out to be a little cracker (and I like my wine!)For what it is, a pub grub pub, it's a four. For a restaurant it's lacking a more sedate atmosphere and it felt rushed. Would be a three not a four for a diner date

my colleague booked online and everything went swimmingly. We arrived and had to wait for a third friend to arrive but this was no problems to the attentive and friendly staff. The restaurant was busy but we never felt either hurried or left alone too long. The food was excellent, two of us opted for the roasts the other a savoury pie. The food was served piping hot with good sized portions. The quality of the meat was top drawer. The price was very acceptable for the quality of food and enjoyment of our stay.

The food was fantastic, we had the 'braised short ribs'. They were fantastic and the service was first class too.

Food ok but service very slow. It seems to be a major problem reading all the other reviews . Food was luke warm not very satisfactory. Never got asked if we wanted more drinks had to go to bar ourselves. Never got asked if meal ok. Once we asked for bill that arrived almost thrown at us receipt just screwed up not on a plate. Overall building lovely welcoming fire but that's as far as it goes.Come on you need to get the staff on the ball.

Always call in for lunch on new year day. Despite I guess some of the staff perhaps having a late night last night, service was good, staff nice, food all well presented. Menu was a bit more restricted them normal, but was more seasonal for Christmas, first non carvery roast I have had in a pub for a very long time and the turkey roast was excellent, ample vegetables and gravy too. My parents had the steak and mushroom pies and these were good too. Desserts excellent. Only slight issue was I had booked by telephone the day before but no trace of my booking so a couple minutes delay questioning this and finding a table, fortunate I guess there were spare tables available.

Arrived at 2.30pm and shown to a table and area I had asked for when booking online.Very welcoming and friendly staff all roundFood was very good, tasty and well presented. I can highly recommend the chicken pie in creamy sauce, delicious.Just a pity the fires were not lit fully until about 4.30pm, also the candles. Might have warmed us up a bit as a bit draughty around Table 53.Otherwise, a truly great experience with staff who deserve much praise.

Had a fantastic meal at the beagle. Only issue we had was that specials menu did not mentioned everything in the dish so we had a delay as a turkey dish contained pork. However the staff were brilliant and sorted the problem out quickly. Would recommend anyone with special requirements or allergies to ask about what is included on the specials menu dishes to prevent this happening to you. Otherwise would recommend as food was good, reasonably priced and book a table was easy to do!

Have not visited the Beagle for sometime, surprised that with competition for our custom the food on offer is still poor. Ordered the so called Hunter Chicken which suffered from, (I would guess) to long in the micro or under a heat lamp, service was good. Mitchells & Butlers must be happy with Vintage Inn place in the market but it's not for me.

This is a odd place trying to be upmarket so they charge more than the average chain pub. We have visited this place a few times over 10years and always leaving feeling the same. Nice food but you always feel you have been robbed. Food was well cooked and hot but small portions and not a great choice on the menu. They could do so much better and just give into being a good food chain pub rather than all this fancy stuff from the 80's. PLEASE

Just your average Beefeater? pub really. They all seem to serve the same food but it has a nice ambiance to it here.

We were staying at the Premier Inn next door and chose the Beagle as we didn't want to travel far. We were not disappointed. We had the £20 for 3 course deal. We both had the scallops for starter and the duck for mains. Both of these were delicious. The desserts were ok but not of the same standard. The service was friendly and efficient. Overall, we really enjoyed our evening and the value for money was excellent.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime as a family party of 10, there were a few other customers in, but I'd describe trade as quiet. Despite this after being seated it was 15 minutes before staff returned to take a drinks order and a further 15 minutes to receive our drinks. Starters took a further 20 minutes and then a 50 minute wait for main meals with the food being average at best. The waiting staff were nowhere to be seen throughout and to top it off my son wanted icecream for desert. What eventually arrived was more like cream due to the time it had been out of the freezer! This was replaced but there was no real apology from the waitress who could clearly see the slop in the bowl.Needless to say we won't be going back any time soon!

Internet is really bad. But the place was so dark I couldn't see menu (I do have poor eyesight) but even telling server didn't improve situation. Fish & chips were off! Please consider customers when printing tiny worded menus and giving very poor light at tables. Disappointed & very let down. It's hard enough being vegetarian & colitis sufferer as it is, without having poor candle lighting. In the past the place has been nice, but maybe in the winter months if your eyesight is not 100% best to avoid as staff couldn't care less.

Visited here with family for an evening meal for the cost this is excellent value for money, the food was nicely presented and came in good time without feeling that you were being rushed between courses. I had the lamb duo which was scrummie, my other half had a burger and he said it was very good. We will return

Good food, good selection of vines, good service, nice interior. On one occasion they disappointed us with a microwave warmed bread roll... Theme nights offer different selection of food. Overall a pleasant place to visit.

Popped in for lunch and server forgot to send our food order through to the chef so we waited quite a while for our food. The manager gave us a free drink which was very kind. Menu is very limited if you dont eat meat. It was ok but wouldn't go back if in the area sadly due to service and menu options.

If you are staying at the Premier Inn or Holiday Inn near Sproughton and are trying to decide between eating at The Beagle or The Wild Man, then I can give you the answer - its The Beagle. We tried both and The Beagle Pub wins hands down. Its a very busy place, so book or get there early. We arrived at about 7:30 on a Friday night and were told we'd have to wait for half an hour for a table. This was no hardship as we had drinks in the very comfy bar area, and in the event we only had to wait 10 minutes. The staff were excellent - attentive and effective. The beers selections was good. We just had a main course - my wife had the Shepherds Pie special and I had the ham hock. Both were excellent - flavoursome, nicely cooked and well presented. The place was buzzing with a most convivial atmosphere and we enjoyed our meals thoroughly. The prices were at pub food level, so no problem there. I would certainly go back.

This was a second visit in as many months. We had a lovely evening. Arrived at 6.30 and the place was packed. We waited till 7.00 to get our food but it was worth waiting for. The men folk had fish and chips (as usual). The ladies were a bit more adventurous. This is the second time I have had the risotto and it was delicious. I'm afraid I don't remember the name of our waitress but she was a lovely Irish lady who serve up my son-in-law's pudding with a birthday candle. We had a lovely evening.

Having been regular patrons, we had stopped coming as food and service had both deteriorated. However it was a good convenient location to meet up with friends for lunch. I'm glad we did. The service was good and we were told how long we would need to wait for certain dishes. When the food arrived we were all pleased. It was well presented and well cooked. We will be back!

Stayed at the premier inn next door. Nice pub, better than the normal kind of Brewers Fayre pub you normally get next to PI's. More of a local cozy pub feel and the foods decent.

Walked 30 mins to the marina with my daughter in the hope of having a walk along the shore and stopping off for some lunch. Signs and Google said open 12-3pm. Unfortunately there was a closed sign on the door and no one around. Disappointing; if opening times have changed please make this obvious

5 of us had the festive 2 course carvery. The food was fairly tasty but not piping hot and the plate was only warm which quickly cools the food.
