I have visited The Three Horseshoes three times. The first time my daughter and I just had starters which were delicious and beautifully presented. The second time was for a Sunday roast which was hugely disappointing, I did email to point out the issues but I was told Sunday roast is very much a personal thing - I agree but I don’t agree that poorly cooked vegetables are a personal thing - however I gave it another try. The final visit and without question my last was a birthday celebration. The starters were nice almost all of us had the tasty heritage tomato dish. The mains were awful. Pasta just boring and amateurish. The steak covered in an unpleasant sweet jus. The chicken was really well cooked but the butternut squash was unpleasant and the nasturtium pesto even worse. Overpriced for what you get.

Good breakfast, very much enjoyed the smashed avocado and poached eggs, just didn’t need the salad for breakfast. Good value!

Fabulous! Highly recommended. Good pub food, very friendly staff and at the centre of a lovely village with all local life passing. I couldn’t count the number of tractors going back and forth!

Having been told by a number of people that this family-run pub and restaurant is well worth a visit, we booked for Sunday lunch. We checked sample menus online, saw a variety of dishes at reasonable prices, and also checked that there is something for vegetarians. We booked in advance (and also mentioned that one of our party was vegetarian). The overall result was a mixture of some excellent cooking, tempered with aspects that could be improved. The menu on this Sunday offered a choice of three each of starters, mains and desserts. Though it says on Facebook that the menu is "on the board" it was actually written only on the back of a piece of paper which the lady serving us read out, though I was able to glance across and see what was on offer, together with the prices. Often in small restaurants such as this with a changing menu this comes to the table on a small blackboard - that would certainly help customers (and the servers). For starters there was a choice of scallops, muntjac carpaccio or prosciutto and pear. Two of us had the prosciutto (£6.50), but as our vegetarian didn't find anything vegetarian, they opted for a bowl of olives and bread that was instead offered (£4.50). The prosciutto also came with a nice moist mozzarella - in Italy you would have been served some bread with it too (how can you otherwise mop up your plate?) but we weren't offered any so we borrowed it from our olive eater. For mains there was a choice of sea bass with ratatouille, sirloin steak or venison. Two of us chose the venison, especially as this comes from a well-regarded local butcher. For our vegetarian, our server did ask the chef, but apparently the only option was the ratatouille that would have accompanied the sea bass. It was too minimal as a main course - and, being a different 'take' on a traditional Provençal ratatouille, was more a stack of the constituent parts, but it looked pretty (£7.50). The venison, however, was beautifully cooked, accompanied by a really tasty, rich jus and fine green beans. Personally for £25.50 I'd have hoped for three slices of loin, rather than the two, but those two were delicious and their cooking couldn't be faulted. The quantity of roast potatoes too (six potatoes between three people) was a bit meagre, but they were well done - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Dessert was down to a choice of two as the crumble had sold out (it looked very good at a neighbouring table). There was fried banana and ice cream (£4.50), or tofu and chickpea chocolate cake (£7.50). This latter sounded intriguing: it was made with an intense, dark cocao, and the binding ingredients gave it a firm, ever so slightly gritty texture, but it really needed something else to tone and contrast it: a dollop of vanilla ice cream or crème fraîche, or just a splash of single cream would have made all the difference - on its own it was a little hard going. The other dessert was less remarkable: two halves of a banana gently caramelised with some vanilla ice cream. The wines were on the expensive side. On the board the 2021 Pinot Noir (it's a very local one, quite interesting, but looking and tasting a little young) was advertised at £8.50 per glass: when the bill came, it was charged at £9.50 per glass. We didn't want to cause a fuss, so paid the extra £2. However, only when getting home did we find that we'd been charged for six glasses of the (rather good) sparkling rosé (£7.50 per glass), when actually we only had four. I have no doubt at all that this was an honest mistake - someone keyed it in twice - and we should have spotted it at the time. So, whilst the main meat dish was really well cooked, other elements didn't altogether meet expectations.

We were happily enjoying drinks in the garden until, in a split second, my autistic child decided to run up some steps at the back of the pub that lead to the roof. I was watching him and ran up after him immediately but not before the landlady had shouted at him and me in a disgusting way. When I told her my child was autistic and didn’t understand danger, she spoke to me like rubbish and threatened me. Her behaviour was a huge overreaction in a situation that was under control. She made out like my child was naughty and then proceeded to berate me in front of my husband, other child and friend. This is a horrible, non inclusive pub and the landlady does not understand neurodiversity. Before this happened, I was served a wine with lipstick all over the glass which had to be sent back. This is an discriminatory pub. Do not take a child with SEN here.

Excellent fish & chips, so nice we had them twice last week when visiting the area. The local chippy’s near our stay in Hemsby Scratby & Newport were all closed, I would definitely come back to Ryan’s Fish & Chips on our next visit. Ring the number to pre order and they’ll be ready when you get there.

This was my first time at this cafe and my bf has been here before with his grandad and this was the great option to pick after a busy day of browsing around the high street. I had the ham omelette with salad and my bf had a burger with chips. It was the first time I had a omelette and it’s was delicious and I was full up afterwards and my bf liked the burger and the chips. The staff were great and the service was brilliant and the chefs deserve a great pat on the back for their hard work. Completely recommend if your in the area after a great day of shopping or browsing Solid 4/4

On checking in i was told there was no breakfast as the “ chef did not arrive for work “Even though this was saturday afternoon & breakfast service was for sunday morning there was no prior warning .At the bar, I was promptly handed a cash refund for the cost of a breakfast of £7.00 per person with no further explanation & I was not sure how the calculation was reached as it was included in the room stay I did not challenge the member of staff at that time who handed me the room key as he was also serving in the bar & as I was on a tight schedule to meet our friends & continue with our weekend there was no earlier check-in available unless you were happy to pay an additional £10.00 to check in at 1pm I was also given a note with someone's number on "If the fire alarm goes off can you ring which was a bit worrying On our return later that evening after an enjoyable evening with friends, we had to let ourselves in at a side door as the pub was locked up & in darkness even though it is advertised that it is open until 12.00 on Saturdays & no duty manager or staff member was on site So we decided to retire for the night & speak to someone in the morning on checking out at 10.00 the pub was still not open a locked up just as the previous night so no one was on site I only noticed a plastic box on the wall with a key drop so we left the keys & departed still with unable to speak to either a member of staff or a duty manager As to the room number 8 that we were allocated this was far from satisfactory It was dirty , dusty, mould in the shower & felt as if housekeeping had not touched it I have previously sent a personal e-mail through their website to the general manager Brett Child which has not been acknowledged this has now been 3 days asking for his feedback,This was our second stay at the Olde Kings Arms in Hemel Hempstead & It could not have been more different as we visit our friends a couple of times a year & are happy to pay for decent clean accommodation locally next time It certainly will not be the Olde Kings Arms in Hemel Hempstead & I suggest anyone else looking to stay locally in the area do not consider this establishment unless they make vast improvements

I have been here several times before for coffee, lunch , tea and cake Yes it’s a lovely atmosphere and food and drink lovely BUT Today I went with friends It was very busy and two waiting staff walked past us several times whilst waiting for a table Neither of them greeted us or said they would be with us soon Any way we got a table and ordered drinks service quick and drinks fine I used the toilet and it was not very clean and the sink had obviously not been cleaned for a while needed a good scrub Very disappointing for an establishment selling food and drink
