Urban Fresh Restaurant in Basildon

Visited without booking on a Sunday. Me and my toddler are dairy intolerant. They advised us they offer vegan and gluten free pizzas. We went for the Sunday roast and because they had gluten free pizza, I asked if they did gluten and dairy free garlic bread to share to start with, they offered to make it with olive oil! It was amazing! I haven't had garlic bread for years and it was so good! Our roasts were lovely, the veg was also cooked really nicely, and plenty of gravy (which again was really tasty) which is always a bonus. We'll definitely be back again. Thank you for being so accommodating.

We visited the pub next door 1st for some drinks which was a good atmosphere , local football fans were in there at the time , £13 for a pint and a large wine . The urban fresh was amazing the food was soo good , came out hot and very filling , we had starters and a main , it is expensive but honestly the food was incredible and the staff are so friendly , modern restaurant , Clean with plenty of tables , I would certainly return .

We first visited Urban Fresh some 2+ years ago. We enjoyed it so much that we went back a further 4 or 5 times since. Our last recent visit (22.11.24) might just be our last. It's gone downhill quite a bit since their menu change (now Italian) and frankly, the dishes we ordered sounded very fancy on paper but in reality quite uninspiring on the plate. The deserts too had fancy names but what was served was very dull at the £8.50 price point. I forget the fancy name they gave my dish, something like folio of white, milk and dark chocolate with gelato. It was a couple of pieces of chocolate and 3 small lumps of vanilla ice cream. I only saw white and milk chocolate in those two small pieces offered. It wasn't quite what I thought I'd get. Wife went safe and went for the chocolate brownie which was supposed to be served with chocolate gelato. She got vanilla gelato instead. Anyway, don't think we'll be returning in a hurry. Not sure if under new management, but it felt like it. Service was super slow despite it being pretty empty.

Disappointing change to the menu! We visited as a return trip after visiting several times before and really enjoying the South American menu. Trip advisor even states this to still be the case. As the restaurant is a long drive out for us, we were very disappointed to find the menu is a sub standard Italian. There is very little choice for vegetarians (pescatarian) with only 1 fish dish, 1 pasta and pizza option. We feel the restaurant has lost its identity. The food was overpriced for what you get and mocktails were the same price as a glass of wine!! The waitress was helpful and attentive which is the only positive. Sadly, we won’t be coming back.

We stayed in the guest house next door so was super convenient, so pleased we chose this venue, my prawn dish was absolutely delicious. Didn't look much but was the tastiest prawn linguine I have ever had. My partner had the burger which was also good.

Had a lovely evening at the new Urban Italia. Staff and food were amazing. We were served by Jorja who was so polite and attentive. Highly recommend, will definitely be back! 😊

Firstly, our server, I think her name was Terri, was lovely, hardworking, attentive, very polite young lady. We couldn’t have asked for more. 5***** Sadly, the restaurant isn’t what it used to be, IT’S NOT South American food, just bog standard Pub Grub, which is fine if that’s what you want but we came here to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary, checked the menu on Google prior to booking, but it’s not what you get when you arrive. The sharing platter to start was nice, quite a big portion. The main was returned as the steak was very over salted, the replace it , but by the time it came back, my husband had finished his meal and I was passed caring. Such a shame, high expectations for a lovely evening were dashed. Pictures below are what is advertised on Google. NOT WHAT YOU GET ON ARRIVAL.

We had dinner here today and the food was pretty amazing. I had a sandwich and my girlfriend had the KFC (Korean Fired Chicken). My sandwich was really nice. Came with some dipping gravy which was well nice. But my girlfriend’s dinner was truly epic. It was so nice. The place itself was lovely. There was a football game going on at the time but it was actually quite quiet. We will definitely be coming back for more.

We had a fantastic meal for Father’s Day there were 6 of us and every starter & main was fab, the service excellent it was busy and buzzing the team really made time to make you feel welcome and at home. Well done team Urban fresh 🙌 we will be coming back

Not ‘urban fresh’ food ..:.. food are very dry. Seems left under heater for sometime, particularly fish chips , burgers. Not many staff working. Very empty restaurant. Surprise to see so many good reviews posted online.

Back here after quite a while. Disappointed to see paella had been taken off the menu. Although was told it’s coming back 👏 Matthew our server was delightful. Friendly helpful and excellent at his job what an asset to this place.

Our first time at this place. Strangely wasn't that busy for a Saturday night and initially we did wonder why. By the end of the evening we were sure that there was no reson as far as we could see. The food was delicious and the service discrete but attentive. I had the best rib-eye steak I have had round here, better than the Old King's Head and Shepherd and Dog, and that's a big compliment to both of them. I'm guessing that Urban has a very good charcoal grill because the steak was juicy with a lovely bit of charcoal on the outside, meaning that the fat was beautifully rendered and melted in the mouth. My wife had the Korean Fried Chicken and she thought it was also superb. Nice, different ambience. We'll be back and thoroughly recommend this place.

Really nice food which was extremely reasonable. Molly our waitress was friendly and attentive. Will be returning to try more of the new menu.

This was the first time we'd visited this restaurant. It did not disappoint. The food was lovely, and the service was great (not too fussy, but enough to have good service) in a relaxing atmosphere. We will be going again.

On the night of our visit they clearly had staff issues. The staff were all lovely, but clearly rushed off their feet. This lead to long gaps between drinks orders. It was quite frustrating but I could see they were struggling for staff. The food was great. Sticking to the fusion / South American I influenced menu is a good idea. There’s some real gems here. Our starters and mains were all lovely. There is also a choice of traditional pub grub which also looked nice. Desserts were ok. My ice cream had waited so long to be served it was quite melted by the time it reached the table. Friendly service, lovely food. A bit of noise from the band playing the interconnected pub next door which was annoying as the piped music in the restaurant was constantly competing with it. So I’ll forgive the staff issues. Hopefully a one off. The food more than made up for it.

Fabulous food with excellent service. I had to contact the restaurant on a number of occasions re booking times and each time they were cooperative and friendly. On arrival they were welcoming . Possibly the best steak I have ever had.

Shame the slow service lets the place down as the restaurant itself is nice and the food is good, but such short staffed and it was clear! Half hour wait to take our drinks order from being seated at our table and then a further 15 minute wait to get the drinks - its just impossible to find a staff member! (The ones that are working are lovely and super helpful, just not enough of them!). Its a pity as could be a great spot otherwise!

Pleasant surroundings and excellent food. I felt sorry for the very young staff ( cheap minimum wage?) who had not been trained in the basics. Making cocktails, having a wine list I even showed bar staff how to make an Irish coffee. It’s a shame because they are very personable and keen just not trained. There was no sign of any management in either the bar or the restaurant for an entire Friday night service. Shame because it could be better

We chose to sit outside as it was a beautiful day. The atmosphere was relaxing and I felt like I was on holiday. I was with two friends, we enjoyed some excellent cocktails and some amazing dishes of small starters to share. Our tsste buds were totally wowed by the flavours and excellent quality of the ingredients. One of my friends is GF there was plenty of choice for her. I'm really looking forward to another visit very soon. If you are in Ely, treat yourself!

We went for a celebration meal but the restaurant was empty apart from a large table with 6 children. The children were all sat on the floor, playing and sprawled across the restaurant. They were so noisy it completely spoilt the atmosphere. For a restaurant which is trying to pitch itself as somewhere special it was extremely disappointing and we will not be visiting again. We left and went somewhere else.

Fabulous riverside view, friendly happy staff, amazing fresh tasty food and a menu we’re still enjoying exploring (we’re local so this is visit 5 or 6) Definitely give this place a try!!

Fantastic experience at Urban Fresh on Sunday! We were a large booking (19 in total with 6 children) and all orders were perfect. Staff were great, food was fab, and we had a lovely amount of space to enjoy (much appreciated with so many small children). We will definitely be back! Thanks guys

A wonderful Mother’s Day experience with fantastic & attentive service. Lovely decor & a superb menu range for meat lovers but also many options for gluten free, vegetarians & vegans. We had the special Mother’s Day menu, offering a great variety of starters and a main Sunday Roast. The sticky beef starter was absolutely delicious as was the roast pork with all the trimmings. Vegetables were super tasty & cooked to perfection & the portions were huge. My son had the kids slow roast beef. The portion was just as huge as our adult main. He loved it. The beef was melt in the mouth. He then had the vanilla cheesecake. Another fantastic portion & was delicious. He ate the lot because it was so tasty & even allowed me to have a tiny taste - at a push! Great value for money. We’ll defo be back for sure. There’s lots more on the menu that caught our eyes. Thank you!

Sadly we didn't have a great experience here, initially we booked for the white horse, however, when we arrived we were being seated in the bar area, we was not told this upon booking and did not want to sit here with 2 children as the bar was quite busy. We were offered to sit in urban fresh and eat from their menu instead, which we agreed. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived but were sat on a tiny table which would have been better suited for 2 people and asked to moved to somewhere more suitable to cater for 4 which was fine. Drinks were great ordered a cocktail which was good and very reasonably priced, we had a starter of chicken wings, halloumi and tortillas with guacamole (which consisted of 5 small tortilla chips ? not really big enough to share basically 1 crisp each ) Mains the kids ate from the kids menu and their meals were good and of a really good size for a kids meal. I had a grilled chicken salad - which could consisted of a cold dry chicken - not grilled and a salad with no dressing ? after 3 bites and picking out chunks of gristle i found the dish completely inedible. my partner had the wagu burger which was rock hard - we was told it was because it was a pretzel burger this too was inedible and both dishes went back. We asked for the bill and the deposit that was paid was not initially taken off- the service was slow and unorganised 1 staff member working but only 3 table's overall were sat. Sadly we won't be returning as our evening was completely ruined

Really good restaurant with a varied Latin style menu. We had three different courses each and every one of them were fantastic. Large space that I imagine will be hard to fill, but ambiance was still there. Wine list is on the small side but filled with South and North American varieties. Cocktail menu looked interesting, but we didn't partake. Reasonably priced and wouldn't be out of place in London. Go here and have a nice meal with good service!
