Golden City in Basildon

The food was really good and very tasty. Service was on point, no delays and staff very friendly. The best Chinese I would say in Essex when it comes to flavours.

Food is always 10/10 doesn’t matter what you order always hot and delicious Steve is the man best Chinese in Basildon by far you won’t be disappointed

I have recently moved to the area and I have to say this has to be the BEST Chinese I have ever had! The staff are brilliant always polite and lovely and food is very reasonably priced. 10/10 HIGHLY reccomend!

This Chinese is exceptionally good the food is to die for I can’t believe my luck to live near this Chinese there is no wheelchair access but they take your order and bring it to you at the door it’s take away only but believe me the food is worth it I recommend the chicken and mushrooms oh and the chicken chow mein omg I feel hungry I’m off to have a Chinese from here in minutes yummy

Found my new go-to Chinese takeaway! In the past, I've always ordered from a popular takeaway in Basildon Clay Hill Road, but I thought I'd give Golden City a try after hearing and reading lots of good reviews. I have to say, this place wins hands down! The chicken Chow Mein was as good as people say. Not greasy in the slightest like most places, loads of succulent chicken, and very flavourful. Also had the Sichuan beef and egg fried rice. All the food was fantastic, and didn't wake up the following morning regretting it like normal.

Food here is the best Chinese in the area their chow mein is to die for it beats my last favourite Lon Wah in Wickford hands down I’ve lived here for 3 months and this is the only Chinese I bother with tried others but this is the best and it’s not far for me to get to in my wheelchair

Moved to the area a couple months ago and I’ve been struggling to find a decent Chinese takeaway in the area. Someone recommended to try this one, even though they don’t deliver to my location but it was 100% worth the drive. I ordered the king prawn fried rice, chicken wings with salt & chilli and roasted Chinese style duck. Everything was delicious, the rice was perfectly seasoned and the wings and roast duck were so so good. Only thing is it took absolutely ages to get through on the phone to order but once I did, the food was ready fairly quickly.

I went to this takeaway based on Google ratings. The shop is clean, service was good and polite. The food was the tastiest chinese I have ever eaten. I will definately return and would recommend this establishment to anyone who wants outstanding food. I marked the atmosphere as 3 star since this isn't relevant to a takeaway and isn't intended as a criticism.

It closes at 10pm, not 9:15, and is closed Tuesdays. Good service and reasonably priced menu. Parking can be interesting. There's a lay-by outside and a small car park about 50yds from the shop.

Honestly, I have never had a bad meal from these guys. Steve is great, and his chefs are always incredible. Best chow mein in town and ginger duck is my fave! Also, sweet and sour balls are always perfect! Always busy and always fast! Warning: They don't take card, so be prepared. Bring enough money to order at least 1 dish you've never tried - it'll be an adventure, and these guys never disappoint!!

Really don't understand all the 5 star reviews. Food is pretty terrible. Soggy tasteless chow mein. Slimy chicken with mushrooms. Greasy chicken balls. Hard tasteless rice. Perhaps they have a different chef on Wednesdays. Either that or all the good reviews are fake. Guy serving was very friendly though. Wouldn't recommend it based on my visit.

Great Chinese was using ricefields pitsea but they kept buggering up the orders and didn't care about customer service. Found this on the off chance and not disappointed food is good portions and full of flavours, delivery is reasonable depending on time and day you order. They are always very friendly polite and will correct any errors I highly recommend this Chinese but bear in mind that they only take cash on delivery.

Wanted to treat myself to a Chinese,, phoned and asked do you take card,, man on phone said no,,, so I ask well can you help me I don't know if I have enough cash for what I want to order,,and I don't have a menu,,, he said no all prices are pretty much the same at any Chinese,,, I was just asking for help,,, will never phone there again,, rude, and disrespectful ,, just wanted to treat myself,,,

We have heard good things from this Chinese and let me say it did not disappoint. unfortunately due to them being so damn good I couldn't get through on the phone lines so popped down there to order in person. Steve was an absolute delightful man, very polite, professional and helpful and our food was ready within 15 mins. It was Hot, perfect, not greasy, we heard the chowmein was the best in town! and it certainly lives up to it! WOW it was amazing. we ordered the BBQ spare ribs with chilli and black bean sauce ! abolsoute winner! with crispy chilli beef ! wowza ! amazing both the best we have ever had. then we had sweet and sour chicken slices with pineapple the chicken breast was cooked beautifully, we also had king prawn with mixed veg - packed with flavour very tasty and a side of chips - delicious. They gave us complimentary prawn crackers too- thank you!. all at a very reasonable price and fed a family of 4 adults, with some left over as it filled us up plentiful! - will definaltly be making this out local, off all the Chineses we have had in this town over the years - nothings compares.! We look forward to returning x sorry no photos this time we tucked in straight away !

My partner and I went here for dinner around 2 weeks ago. We don’t usually get Chinese as I usually get sick from oily it is. We went here under hood review from a friend. Was very nice! Would definitely go back again!

The satay skewers are the best I have tasted and the s&s chicken balls are large with good flavour

1st and last time!! These reviews have got to be fake! Burnt tasting dry chowmein. Dark brown egg fried rice. Struggled to find any egg in the darkness. Chilli beef dry and a little TOO chewy. The pancake roll was nice! All too dark and dirty looking for me. No thanks

Always a friendly welcome from Steve on the counter. Food is usually ready within 10mins and there's plenty of it in the portion sizes. Good value.

Extremely impressed. Decided to try them out due to the amazing reviews. Being the fussy person I am, I am rarely impressed with food but I'm glad to say my expectations were exceeded. Golden city is the best Chinese takeaway that you will find in Pitsea for miles around. The guy that takes your order is very friendly. I like my pancake rolls extra crispy and they always do it perfect. No matter what I get from chicken to seafood it is always excellent hot and tastes great. 10 out of 10 well recommended.

First time using Golden City last night, wanted a new takeaway as our regular can be a bit hit and miss. Have to say was very impressed, guy behind the counter was super friendly, was a 6 min drive back home and food was piping hot, chow mein was lovely, full of flavour. Would defiantly using again. Salt and chilli chicken and salt and chilli chips. I work all over country with work and get this dish where ever I’m working and can honestly say this is by far the worst iv ever had in the whole country. That may sound harsh but if it was not do bad I wouldn’t even put this review on. Three words. Soggy greasy tasteless 🤮

Always go to Golden City for my Chinese. Now all my friends love it so it's always Chinese night at mine as nothing comes close to the amazing tastes and value for money. Staff are always so polite and helpful, really wouldn't bother going anywhere else!

This place is one to avoid. Everything was swimming in grease so much it made it inedible. Disgusting.

This is the best Chinese takeaway in the area. Steve is lovely and personable, seems to know everyone is always willing to make a substitution. The service is quick and the food always comes hot. It is not as greasy as some other places either. We enjoy this place so much compared to others in The area that when they are closed we just won't get Chinese.

Golden City, in Rectory road is our local Chinese takeaway and it's by far the best in the area. Steve is a really friendly guy always has time for a chat and knows all his customers by name. The service is welcoming and professional and the food is always freshly cooked, lovely and hot and top quality.

Fave Chinese Steve the owner is great well cooked food super tasty and huge portions, fast delivery and never a disappointment ten stars all the way

Portion sizes are very good, prices a little bit higher than other local chinese takeaways and I'm not överken on their egg fried rice. It gets very busy and it's hard to get through on the phone as constantly engaged so we drove there in the end. The guy front of house is great he's been there since the 80s and has a fab cockney accent. Food is good quality.

This is the best Chinese take away in Basildon. I like my food spicy. Singapore Rice noodles is absolutely brilliant. You must try Special Chinese Curry with Egg Fried Rice. Wow. My favourite. Nice portion too.
