Visit the pub for a band night recently and very disappointed in our experience. Band were fantastic but service from pub was appalling. The pub had advertised the evening as a live band and pizza night so would have surely staffed the pub appropriately but very much not the case-queues of people at the bar every time we went to get another drink and waiting nearly an HOUR AND A HALF for a pizza!!! If we had come out to the pub for a proper meal this would still be unacceptable but this was just for 2 pizzas of all things?!?! Really need to work on staffing as this is poor service by anyone’s standards. The worst part was that whilst we were in the long queue to place our order, a regular walked to the front of the queue and handed the barman his pizza order which was put through as a priority above those who had been waiting in line! Definitely in two minds now as to whether to return for the Beer Festival in August.

Absolutely fantastic experience at the Hare and Hounds for a Sunday Roast, Serving til 6pm which is a bonus as so many other pubs stop at 4 on a Sunday. Warm atmosphere and our waitress was so friendly and professional. The food was fantastic and home cooked roasties and puds!! Food came out quickly and was lovely and hot. Also must try the sticky toffee pudding for dessert!! Will definitely return. 10/10!!

( For non-believers you can put pineapple on a pizza with butchers ham and it is wonderful) We had to leave the cheesecakes and apple crumble with custard to the next evening as we were so full, they were worth the wait ! My wife and I decided to come here for some dinner and were not disappointed! We had left it a bit late in the evening and turned up at 8.45pm, the kitchen shut at 9pm, but nothing was too much of a problem for the staff who looked after us well and made us feel very welcome. We both ordered pizza and it's the best home made pizza I have had in a long, long time. Very fresh and delicious I ate the whole thing it was unreal. Compliments to the chef! Was a quiet Saturday night and the ambience was nice and relaxed, and the very friendly and polite lady who served us was brilliant. We desperately wanted dessert but we were way too full! Would definitely recommend and would love to come back in the future! Thanks for having us!!

.Yet another pub claiming wheelchair accessibility that proved to be false. After our taxi driver and the landlord added a heave I could cross the two inch step to get in with my heavy battery electric wheelcchair. My wife chose what proved to be the far too salt Gammon followed by a nice chocolate brownie whilst I had an acceptably nice liver and bacon. Being well filled I could manage no more than an espresso.

2nd time at the Hare and won’t be the last. We all had something different. Seafood linguini was tasty and a reasonable portion. My friend cannot get past the haddock and chips. Veggie crumble had a good report. The whitebait starter was disappointing, more like sardines, to my mind, to big and a bit off putting, l did eat them as l love fish, but my friend did not which is always a shame when fish goes to waste. Not the whitebait we are used to eating. Very friendly place.

My husband and i found this lovely pub on a Sunday drive. We are so glad we stopped in. It was 2:30 in the afternoon but was still being served, to our good luck. The inside of the pub is nice and welcoming. The barmaid had a smile on her face and a cheery hello. After ordering drinks, we spied roast pork with crackling on the menu and it was only £11 with roasties and fresh veg. After ordering we went to the garden to wait for food and foind a lovely area with tables with umbrellas, children's play area, a veg garden, and 2 bunnies in a hutch. Before long our lunch arrived and it was the best roast pork I have ever had. Juicy, melt in the mouth, covered with a yummy light gravy. The roasties were perfect as was the yorkshire pud. Fresh veg steamed to perfection and obviously locally grown. And the crackling, oh! Crunchy with just the right amount of fat. Heaven! The whole meal was utterly delicious. I believe the cook was called Charlene and she deserves a place on Masterchef. You think it's hyperbole, but it's not. Will definately be back every time we are within 20 miles of the place.

An enjoyable trip for two of us to the Hare and Hounds where the food, staff and menus led to an enjoyable lunch. Nachos to start (glad we had decided to share) were very tasty, likewise were the mains, which was that days special (steak pie with mash, carrots, French beans and calabrese and individual pots of gravy). An added bonus was a montage of old photos of patrons of the Hare from the 1940s to 50s on a wall on the way in, which contained a picture of my late father and other people I knew back then.

We were on our way home from a day out in Long Melford and decided we'd stop somewhere for a pub meal. As we had 3 dogs in tow, we looked for the first place we came across that had a beer garden. We hit on The Hare And Hounds. After finding a table and perusing the ample menu, my in-laws decided that it was too cold to sit out with the dogs and decided to leave. When I explained why, the staff invited us to bring our dogs inside. We were delighted as the menu really tickled our taste buds. We each had something different - homemade bacon and cheeseburger and chips (as it was Wednesday, this came with a free beer which we were allowed to replace with a nice pint of cider), ham, egg and chips, pasta carbonara and I had the special for the day which was a beef brisket chilli served with long grain rice, tortilla chips, sour cream and guacamole dips. It was absolutely delicious and my party was completely satisfied with their dishes. It was very reasonably priced, working out at just over £10 a head including the drinks. There was a really relaxed country atmosphere with a nice mix of those who appeared to be tourists and those who pop in for a jar after a hard day's work. I would definitely go back and would highly recommend this little gem.

We decided to give this pub a go, whilst actually on route to somewhere else (a carvery). The philosophy seems to be "don't do a lot, but do it well", with 5-6 starters, 5-6 main courses and a similar choice for dessert. This seems to hold true mid-week as well as on Sunday. Thus, some people might find the choice limiting, especially if you are a vegetarian (where the mid-week menu leaves the "choice" of one starter and one main course!). That said, I have not got access to the specials board for this aspect. Their speciality seems to be Austrian cooking, with mid-week choices of a further 5 dishes. Sandwiches, toasted sandwiches and children's menu also available. Our food was excellent, though. We opted for roast beef - some of the best pub roast potatoes I have ever had and good, fresh cooked vegetables. The beef was not tough but maybe the knives a little blunt ?!! The beef was not fall-apart-tender like we may have got at the carvery we were heading for but it was good nonetheless. My wife is something of a connoisseur of sticky toffee pudding and it passed the test! Amply sticky and with plenty of sauce. We would definitely visit again, if in the area.

The Hare is a classic village pub: comfortable, friendly, with a landlord who knows and cares about his beers. I and eight colleagues went for lunch at this pub after our walk. We had booked ahead and the pub was not busy. I and a number of colleagues ordered fish and chips. I had asked for fewer chips and salad. Seven of our colleagues were served fairly quickly however I and a friend who had not ordered the same meal had to wait for almost an hour for ours. When it came, that after having to remind the barman that we were still waiting, the meal was adequate. We had to rush our meal because we had to catch a bus if we were to stay as a group.the barman apologised but his reason that they could only cook two fish at a time seemed strange. What was also frustrating was that others who came after were served while we still waited. All in all it was a dispiriting experience and despite their admission that they had fallen short no compensation was offered. Disappointing!

I arrived at midday rather ahead of the scheduled time of appointment with my 2 other luncheon partners. The bar staff were friendly and I took my seat. I had a pint of IPA. The beer itself was fine. My two lunch companions then arrived by which time I am afraid to report that I feared they would have to thaw me out from the deep freeze conditions to which the pub had subjected me. It is, in my humble opinion, a mandatory requirement that a pub should be warm and for the life of me I do not know why the doors were open to the elements on a blustery autumn day.The interior of the pub is set for dining with hard chairs, flooring and tables with the atmosphere akin to that of a dining room. There is no snug area for drinking. It is all rather uninspired.A this point we decided to de-camp for lunch at another venue. I would be unable to recommend this pub as a drinking hole based on my visit.

Today was our third visit, and its just getting better. We are a family of four, Mum, Dad with a 6 and nearly two year old. While we enjoyed our drinks the children had lots of fun in the huge garden on the swings, slide and climbing frame. We ordered a ROAST DINNER PLATTER which is such a great idea. Only just had room for the Eaton mess!!!! We really do recommend this pub, please give it a visit, we will be back there again.

Managed by a lovely young couple, the selection of real ales changes regularly, and they even have a choice of ciders and perry. The food is good pub grub: I had the lasagne and my other half the burger. Both were obviously home made, fresh and really tasty, and good VFM. They also have the best homemade Pork Scratchings I have ever had, in a jar behind the bar and sold by the bowl full. Worth a visit just for them and a pint.

Under new management, the pub has really upped it's game! Would and will recommend to everyone and anyone I know, and really can't wait to visit again.Food was fantastic quality, and the knowledgeable and friendly barman was easily able to advise me on the perfect beers to accompany my food.

Well worth a visit. From the outside you would not realise the size of the dining area or the size of the bar, a great garden, look forward to the next BBQ now the summer is here at last.

Stopped at the Hare and Hounds for lunch with a colleague, I remember the pub as being a rather dingy place a couple of years ago but considerable effort has been made to refurbish the exterior and interior of the place. The lunch menu is typical pub fare of the old sort, Shepherds Pie, Steak Pie, Scampi and chips I am sure you know the sort of thing, not a drizzle, foam or Aubergine dip in sight. We ordered Cod and Chips which was freshly cooked and delivered to our table very quickly. The batter was good, the fish was moist and the chips were crisp; the bill with a couple of soft drinks came in at under £20.00 for two. Sometimes you just want something straight forward at a fair price and this hit the spot on this occasion. Although I enjoyed my meal at the Hare it would be difficult to rate the experience any higher than average because of the unexceptional nature of the menu. This is not meant as a criticism simply a fact, A Ronseal experience, delivered what was expected and did it well.

Since its change of hands the pub has got a lot better in appearance , the food is ok but could do better with the sweets not as good as mains , on the homemade dessert this is , think the need for a little more experience is needed . Asked for children's portion , for my daughter was given but was charged full price !! Need to look at this if they want to get families in .

Ordered 2 cottage pies (£5.95 each). Told 'no cottage pies' but offered steak pies. Accepted but wasn't told they were (£8.95each) Therefore our bill total was an extra £6 - which we were not expecting. Yes, the steak pies were lovely but we should have been told, when they were offered in place of cottage pies - that they were more expensive. We wouldn't have ordered them, we are pensioners and £6 more is too much for us. Guess we should always be "on guard" and have asked, 'are they dearer than our choice?' - which was on their menu but not available! My husband paid and told me when we were about to drive away. If I had paid I would have queried it at the time. I am not a 'faint heart' but at least he didn't leave a tip so he made his point in a different way.

We were lost in the lanes of Suffolk and came across The Hare & Hounds by accident. Three of us had a Sunday roast and I have to say that it was as good as eating at home (and my wife is an excellent cook). The meat was a lovely cut and it was cooked perfectly. The vegetables tasted fresh and were also perfect. My elderly Mum enjoyed it so much that she ate probably twice as much as she would normally. Keep it up Hare & Hounds and you're definitely on our map from now on.

We all had different food from the menu. It was cooked well with good quality ingredients and the fresh vegetables were just right (ie. not still raw), and the prices were reasonable. We shall go again..

I have meant to try the pie mash shop in Sudbury for ages but only got round to it today. I'm really sorry I didn't go before now as it was excellent. I only had a single pie and mash but it was plenty for me. The pie was perfect and the liquor was really good. I will definitely go back.

Best chip shop in Sudbury by far! Food can not be faulted, and I have tried plenty of different chip shops in the area. Nice to find one that is actually worth the money. Also nice that they accommodate for vegetarians because it’s hard to come by in chip shops. Staff are friendly too and service is quick. Definitely recommend.
