I booked with slight trepidation after reading some mixed reviews. Staying at Fionnphort or 2 nights with my wife to visit Iona & Staffa and as the trip coincided with my wife's birthday I booked the Ninth Wave as a treat. We both eat out regularly in Scotland and abroad and have been lucky enough to visit some Michelin starred places over the years. The service at Ninth Wave was slightly quirky but very pleasant and the dining room small but very relaxed. The quality of food served was beyond expectations and on a par with some Michelin starred establishments. The format is akin to a tasting menu with 3 or 4 smaller plates (#4 is dessert), cheese as an optional extra and coffee / petit fours included. We shared a decent bottle of white from an interesting list. I had scallops and wood pigeon while my wife had the mackerel and crab stuffed courgette blossom. We both chose the half lobster "main" course. the Pigeon was slightly tough but otherwise the food was faultless. The lobster was exceptional and so refreshing to see it on a menu without the usual pricing supplement. Fabulous evening - thank you Carla and John. We will visit again one day.

We had a fantastic time at Flavour- the tasting menu was full of new ideas: locally foraged mushroom and seaweed, for instance. Great fish and really tender venison. Chris's enthusiasm as he explains what's behind each dish really shines through. They are planning to open for a few dates over the winter, so worth a check even if it's out of season.

Just like how a fish supper should be; no nonsense. Was so good didn’t even need sauce. Visited for dinner after hearing great things about the place and it didn’t disappoint. Super fish suppers, coleslaw, onion rings and finished off with a single nougat wafer. Our server Lyla was a delight; fully competent, smiley and polite. The place takes you back in time, even with a fryer from nineteen canteen - very special. We will most definitely be back!

This place is definitely worth a visit! The scallops were lovely and fresh and the honesty box is heart warming. There are two fridges. One for pre-orders and another stocked with a variety of scallops and oysters. Would recommend doing the nearby circular scenic drive to Kneep Beach. Such a stunning beach!

I knew not to expect lobster in November but I’d hoped for langoustines or maybe scallops at a push. Not to worry, haddock tacos sounded great! Love tacos, love haddock, so jumped at them and also ordered a kids fish & chips with a side order of mushy peas. I was the only person in and didn’t particularly enjoy having to listen to the young fella in the kitchen ranting about vegans and vegan food for 10 minutes. I’m clearly not vegan but I wouldn’t have enjoyed hearing rants about anything, especially calling people weirdos and generally being unpleasant. Not a great atmosphere to be waiting in. It was a mixed bag to be honest. The mushy peas were not, they were more of a pea & mint purée, not pleasant. The tacos were surprisingly bland. Of course I wasn’t expecting great Mexican food in a tiny village in the Highlands but I did expect some flavour. Even the fish was unseasoned. Luckily I was taking home and had guacamole and chipotle sauce to hand. The fish was plentiful and perfectly cooked though. And the batter (despite the lack of seasoning) was probably the best I’ve ever had. Light, crispy and golden. The fish and chips were faultless. Not chips as you’d maybe expect from a chippy, more like fries but they were really good and well seasoned. I’d probably have made this a 3.5 but I’m happy to give 4. The young woman serving was really pleasant and helpful and countered the rants from the kitchen (she handled him well too, better than I would have). I’d definitely return and recommend but wouldn’t recommend the tacos.

Great crab sandwiches and smoked salmon sandwiches. Lobster salad is also very good value for money and very tasty. Highly recommended

Wonderful wee place, well worth a visit if you want to buy a delicious takeaway lobster or crab lunch. We bought small tubs of lobster salad, it was so tasty and fresh, and they were only £6 each. It was our favourite meal of our holiday. There are a couple of picnic tables outside, if you want to eat beside the small harbour. You can also order online for collection, they sell amazing seafood platters. They sell some nice gifts too. The Lobster Shop is not too far from St Cyrus Beach, if you are looking to buy a picnic.

Amazing spot next to a wonderful beach! Me and my 7 year old came down for a wee walk around and then realised how lovely the beach was and how nice the day was so went back and got my wife and 2 year old. Had a flat white the first time I was there and served by a very friendly lady had a little chat about her menu. Tacos aren’t something you can find anywhere in Dunbar so when I returned later my wife we got the beef tacos and a few tins of juice and I have to say there where absolutely lovely! The kind lady (owner I think) also brought them down onto the beach for us while I was setting up with our young ones! 100% will be back again and telling people about you guys! Keep up the great work!
