Could be better The chips looked scrappy and fish thin and overcooked with dark brown batter. It had only just opened and the display cabinet was stacked with golden battered items so why was our fish in dark brown batter.Thecstaff didn't look happy. We certainly will not return .This was a Friday evening and there is a visiting chip van at the harbour. It seems it has a good reputation.

The food was very good but the service was poor. The staff were working very hard but there simply weren’t enough of them.

This remote restaurant/bistro overlooking the loch and on the quieter north shore gets better every time we visit. This is our 3rd in c. 10 years. The shellfish staples on the menu are cleverly served and cooked to perfection especially clams, scallops, lobster and langoustines - but why razor clams have continued is a mystery! Fresh fish on the blackboard also a treat we had Whitchurch Sole and Halibut - both extraordinary. Whoever trained the staff needs a big slap on the back - the staff were excellent, extremely knowledgeable and efficient. And had a great sense of fun too. Approx £60 p/h for 3 courses with wine. What’s not to like - A memorable evening we will return

On business trip, not holiday and staying nearby. Our hostess told us of this place and gave it a try. Pretty extensive menu of burgers, fish, chicken and chips. They also do a selection of pizzas too. They also do a haggis supper. I had that and my wife the fish and chips. Both were really big portions. Batter was really light and crispy. Really tasty. If we are ever in the area again we’d make a point of driving back to Maybole to come back to this shop.

M & Gs is a mobile restaurant which comes to the playing field by the scout hut in Hillside, Montrose every Monday evening between 4:30 and 8:00. Orders can be placed by phone from 3:30pm. This is a cash only operation that travels to Arbroath, Carnoustie, Friockheim, Invergowrie and St Cyrus amongst others. Can't get any fresher than this - lovely large succulent fillet of haddock and a good serving of chips. Well worth a visit if you are close by. I now look forward to Monday nights !! I have taken pictures of this mobile chippie but as this is being reviewed for the first time I cannot post photos as it is not giving me the option. I will post them separately.

Our experience at this restaurant was mediocre. The food tasted like something had left the pan a while ago, which was very unfortunate.. Staff promptly provided us with the bill when we mentioned that we didn’t want the dessert menu. The overall service felt rushed, as they were serving a lot of customers simultaneously.

We visited for High Tea. This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and a good view depending on where you are seated. We were apparently the only folks that reserved tea that day and the restaurant was empty. There was no one to greet us at the host stand. We were finally noticed by a very busy server that was also serving the large bar area in the room next door. Our reservation (which I not only confirmed but added an extra person to) had to be located. The tea, sandwiches and sweets were good. Nothing really stood out. The server was not able to attend to us as well as she had to keep running back to the bar. I had higher expectations for this old and established location and it did not deliver.

We eat here every few months and have for the past 10 years as it’s only a 10 min walk for us. However, if you’re visiting do book in advance and I can say without exception that the food and service are exceptional. Last night we pre arranged the private room downstairs for 6 of us, no extra charge, as we had friends staying and it was just lovely. We were looked after brilliantly, food perfect. £120 per couple included a couple of bottles of wine, 2-3 courses each, coffee & some other drinks. Amazing value for what we had.
