Really nice place. Not mant places do Cod Loin. Yes it's smaller in length but it's thicker and more tender and is the perfect way to serve Cod. Haddock is a traditional single fillet which is nice not the angel cut haddock and they do homemade mushy peas which I think is probably the only place in Scotland what does them

I’ll be honest, the fish and chips were really good, we really enjoyed them and the place is lovely. I don’t believe the hygiene rating for this place is accurate though. The cutlery had hair on it and did not look clean, and the waiter who swapped out cutlery was openly wiping his snot with his bare hands. Seeing that made me really regret having lunch here. It’s such a shame since the food was really good. If that’s going on in front of customers, I can’t imagine the hygiene standards in the kitchen. Would not recommend.

Absolutely cannot fault. Pricey, yes, but worth it. We went for standard fish supper (so, fish with chips), mushy peas and a single portion of haggis bonbons. Everything was steamin' hot, the fish was meaty and a reasonable portion of chips that were perfectly seasoned (few places get the salt:vinegar ratio correctly but he definitely did!) We ate them on the picnic benches outside with lovely, misty/harr-y views over the Firth of Forth. A short walk the tram stop (end of the line at Newhaven) and well worth the travel.

This is out favourite chippie in Scotland! We don’t live in Edinburgh but have driven all the way there just for the fishmarket. Love the. Monkfish, Crab Claws, Muscles and generally most things on the menu! So glad they extended the outside part to have the tables to sit and eat takeaway We have eaten inside in the restaurant too, which is nice as they have a few additional items in the menu.

Just received a delivery through an uber order . Cod and chips . We joked about how fish n chips is the only takeaway that doesn’t taste better the 2nd day . Our delivery WAS a 2nd day takeaway. Chips weren’t fresh . Cold and clearly from last night . The cod was half the usual size and not fresh ,we order often . It’s been double fried everything has . When we phoned the restaurant the fact we ordered through über eats seemed to mean the restaurant was absolved of any blame . Do uber staff come in and make the food ?

Overpriced, fish not fresh and overall a sense of being taken for a ride. £14 for some squid rings was a complete rip off. There are far better fish and chip shops for locals and tourists to go to at much less cost. Nobody goes for deep fried lobster, monkfish etc and tend to go for haddock or cod and chips - standard chip shop fare so it’s a place built on hype by the internet and has become a con, in my opinion but we have seen this before many times.

I chose this particular place with the hope of trying Scottish lobster (but East Coast lobster was available). The entrance to the restaurant is quite unclear (first you have to choose the right entrance, one for takeaway food, another entrance to the restaurant, you have to press a button to enter). We came about half an hour after opening, the restaurant was full, so we had to wait 10 minutes for a table to become free. We were seated at the bar (but it was for the best as the barista saved the impression of this place both with service and cocktails) . The seafood was not bad, but the fries that came with them were not tasty and dry. It was the first time I spent £60 per person and left the restaurant hungry.

My favourite chippie in Edinburgh without a doubt and certainly my first stop when friends visit. Beautiful harbour location can’t be beat and outdoor seating with heaters and umbrellas for half the section usually means we have somewhere comfy to enjoy the fish and chips. Takeaway: downside is you’ll often find quite a queue and that’s because everything is fresh and made to order. Would like to say the queue moves fast but I’ve definitely ended up waiting an hour in this line before - which can be unbareable on a sunny day as it heats up like a greenhouse. Pity they can’t make the pickup order system work. Staff are usually super busy and straight to the point (I would be too if I had to explain the menu to every tourist tbd) but great people overall. Food is simply amazing with perfect batter. Look no further for a prime fish and chips experience. Restaurant: pros - you don’t have to wait an hour in the greenshouse. Cons: somehow convinced the food doesn’t taste the same if it’s not in a paper box but might be my own biased. But seriously, somehow manage to triple what you end up spending next door with drinks, appetisers and all that getting involved.

Visited the fishmarket with the family last night, the service was brilliant, the staff were so friendly and went above and beyond creating a me a chocolate sundae instead of a fruit one which made the evening for me. All six of us ordered different things on all courses and absolutely everything that arrived at the table not only looked delicious but also tasted delicious. I could happily have eaten anything on the menu it was all great. Although I forgot to photograph it my battered monkfish was so good. Would definitely return on future visits to Edinburgh and would recommend this restaurant highly to anyone who was coming here. Below in order is fried squid, fish sharing board, garlic prawns, special board seafood risotto, battered cod, regular battered haddock, chorizo scallops, 6 Langoustines, chocolate sundae, strawberries and cream with chocolate rubble and the pavlova

The venue is located directly on Leith Harbour, with lovely views of the moored boats and the ocean. We ate à la carte, but Fishmarket also offers the "take away" option, with a large selection of products, all of great quality: the oysters were very fresh, caught that morning, and the fries were perfect, without being heavy. Luckily we found an Italian guy on the staff - very kind! - who was able to advise us and explain the menu well. The restaurant is clean and tidy. Great experience!

Fishers in the City offers fresh, well-prepared seafood, though the hot platter lacked flavour. The cold platter was excellent, with the salmon and dip being standout highlights.
