Turning up we were sat beside a table of Italians, this bode well. The staff in the venue were super friendly and attentive, easy going and honest. The food was as fresh as it gets, and the chefs really know what they're doing. The only seafood I've eaten that was more fresh was mussels picked off the rocks by my own hands. Every member of our party left smiling at how tasty the food was. You pay for what you get in this venue. and what you get is arguably the best seafood in Edinburgh. I will certainly be back.

What a gem! Went on a recommendation, great atmosphere and service. Outstanding lobster, smoked haddock soup and mussels. The oysters were amazing too! Finished off with sticky toffee pudding which may have been the best we’ve had! We are always surprised at the small pour in cocktails in the UK but understand it’s universal and not the restaurants fault. Highly recommend you go here and eat where the locals eat!

The food was very good, what I liked the most were the mussels with white wine sauce, the pasta with seafood and Thai rice with curry and shrimp! Everything excellent!

There were four of us eating at this restaurant on Tuesday evening 4th March 2025. The food was good but the service very poor. Staff standing around and not attending the table and not reading the room. A few times we had to get up and go over to staff standing chatting near the till to get service. The prices are very high which we didn’t mind paying but with such poor service it will make us think twice about going there again.

A lovely place to eat. We had oysters , and then mussels. Adda our waitress was attentive and friendly, as we're all the staff. A lovely meal.

Three words.... Sticky Toffee Pudding!

Again I rarely give out full stars but this place is seriously something. I saw some people mention how theyre expensive,I can't fully comment cos I went during lunch but I can say for sure their quality ingredients justify their price to a great extent. Also lunch deals are insane, 20£ for 2 courses for something of this quality is really hard to beat. The langoustines were amazing. First of all it's hard to find good langoustines, secondly not a lot of places allow you to order by piece. Here I got 2 pieces and they were more than happy to oblige if I only ordered one(I checked w them explicitly). Langoustines really tasted super fresh, my eyes opened when I shoved the first piece into my mouth. There's something inexplicable about insanely fresh seafood, and theirs is really top class given how they have 2 deliveries daily. Linguine pasta was good too, their sauce is very unique with a hint of tomato and some heat, but certainly different from most. Seafood was fresh too. And the sticky date pudding is the best I've had. Never had a sticky date pudding this intense, and the sponge was reasonably light given the mad intensity. As if that wasn't enough, there's a tremendous amount of shredded dates. The sauce and the cream worked brilliantly too. For someone who loves sticky date pudding, I'm really surprised the best I've had comes from a Scottish place All in all, they're famous for a good reason. If there's any complaint, it's that they don't allow takeaway cos they don't have some license Service was exemplary too, both of the staff who served my table were extraordinarily charming

Nuestra experiencia general fue positiva. El restaurante es muy agradable y el personal en general atento y bien informado. Las sillas son un poco incómodas cuando has estado sentado un rato. Mi problema en la noche era la relación calidad-precio (o la falta de). Sé que los mariscos de calidad son caros y toda nuestra comida estaba bien cocinada y deliciosa. Sin embargo, pedí las vieiras y media langosta y pagué extra por algunas langostinas. Las langoustinas eran caras también, pero estaban deliciosas al igual que la langosta, pero solo 2 vieiras bastante pequeñas en el plato fue muy decepcionante y un poco de estafa sentí. Simplemente arruinó lo que por lo demás fue una gran experiencia.

Aloof service, mediocre food, followed by unpleasant food poisoning type symptoms later. Such a shame...

Éramos totalmente cognitivos, no creo que ruidosos, pero nos negaron otra ronda de bebidas. Mientras que la comida estaba bien esto arruinó nuestra experiencia y fue un completo desperdicio de dinero. No recomendaría este lugar.

I had the pleasure of experiencing one of the most amazing lunches of my life at this restaurant. The fish was incredibly fresh and of high quality. The cooking methods were expertly executed, highlighting the quality and taste of the raw ingredients beautifully. The staff were friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. I highly recommend dining here, especially trying the mojito salmon and halibut, which were absolutely stunning.

Generally a good experience. Interesting mix of scottish and fusion food. Good seafood selection. Generally good service. There were couple of instances, needed to remind the server to get the drink that was ordered.

We were there on New Year's Eve and had very good food and attentive service.

Very good chowder, it’s the third time I’m trying it and it doesn’t dissapoint! Loved the sticky toffee pudding as well!

11/10 Food was absolutely amazing. The mussels drowned in white wine and butter was lovely. The fish and chips were so good. The service was great. Servers seemed to genuinely enjoy giving us recos of food to try all of Edinburgh. We were in Edinburgh for only a short time but we went back twice because we loved it so much.

Took the family here for an absolutely fantastic meal. As a lover of seafood I was not disappointed. It has a really warm and welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff that made it feel like nothing was "too much" to ask. I got a seafood platter with lobster and scallops, with an garlic butter I will be thinking about for months to come! It was really great quality seafood - very fresh and a lot of meat on the lobster too. I also got a prawn and pork belly start which was also fantastic, and a great creme brulee to top the entire meal off. Can't wait til I get to go back!

The staff provided excellent service, and the food was delicious, fresh, and not fishy. The prices matched the quality perfectly. The restaurant is located in the city center, making it easy to find, and the atmosphere was great. I ordered the Hot Shellter for 2, and the portion was so generous that it was more than enough to fill us up.

Everything, from the highest possible quality and taste of food to the choice of wines - enjoyed every moment of the dinner we had there.

Booked a table for two, but due to the kids deciding to join us at the last minute, had to call to increase the size of our booking. Fishers could not have been more helpful. I had the salmon & smoked haddock chowder starter with the haddock & chips for main, finished off with the sticky toffee pudding. My partner had the mussels, the food was excellent, best fish & chips I’d had in a long time. The service was brilliant and the staff very friendly, all together a very enjoyable experience.

Fishers in the City offers fresh, well-prepared seafood, though the hot platter lacked flavour. The cold platter was excellent, with the salmon and dip being standout highlights. Service was efficient, and the atmosphere was pleasant – not too crowded or too quiet. A solid choice for seafood lovers in Edinburgh.

Fabulous restaurant, impulse choice and so glad we did! Can’t fault it. Food was excellent, we had Mackerel pate, Lemon-sole, prawns, creme brûlée…..house white was gorgeous. Really relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, I think everyone else had definitely been before and obviously enjoyed it as much as we did. Recommend.

Went there on friday night, not too busy on this occasion, nice atmosphere. Can be difficult to hear others at table as it can be a noisy restaurant which we experienced previously. Food itself was good, but a little light on portion sizes. Wine was lovely, but we'd ordered a £34 bottle so that was expected. None of the wines are cheap. We had the Christmas menu for £55 each which included starter, main, desert & coffee so seemed best value. The menu overall feels pricey when you take into account wine, but the quality of food was good.

Went in right as they opened but they took fantastic care of me. Excellent oysters and the razor clams starter was one of the better dishes I’ve had in months. Highly recommend this spot!

If we would have only had our starters, 6/5 stars. The mains (scallops and a whole Scottish lobster) were lackluster at best. Both were oddly soft and undercooked, the scallops still had their feet attached, and the lobster was absolutely swimming in a very strongly herbed butter. Service and atmosphere were fine though.

Thoroughly enjoyed having dinner at this wonderful restaurant that offers such a great menu, the difficulty is to make a choice from all that’s on offer. I had no option but to choose two starters, I chose the fish Chowder along with the assortment of Oysters. We were lucky enough to get a table as we only booked on the day and the staff made sure we had a good table so we could enjoy the ambience. Definitely will be back on my next visit to my home city.

WOW! The atmosphere, staff and the food was spectacular!

We were recommended to this restaurant by our hotel, we asked for a good seafood restaurant and came here. The owner's Son seated us, and could not have been more helpful. He even arranged to customize an app for us. The food and service was superb, we will definitely return on our next visit.

Tuvimos una cena increíble - desde los deliciosos y únicos cócteles previos a la cena, hasta las ostras, y luego la comida principal - mi marido pidió la media langosta con vieiras - ambos procedentes de las costas de Escocia, y yo tenía lenguado de limón con hongos. INCREÍBLE. La comida era cara pero muy buena y un verdadero placer. Para el pudín compartimos pudín de toffee pegajoso y eso también fue de primera categoría. Muy recomendable para adultos. Estábamos aquí en un viaje familiar y me alegré de que dejamos a los niños en casa!

One of the best seafoods we have ever eaten. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is not too sophisticated but more casual and relaxed. All of our dishes were outstanding (Monkfish Taco, mussels, half lobster, Halibut and Tagliatelle). Definitely a must for every seafood fan!

One of the best meals I had in Edinburgh. I had the linguine (though it was tough to choose). The sauce was flavorful and just a bit spicy. Shrimp were some of the best I have ever had. Restaurant was neatly laid out, I liked the various floors made the space more dynamic. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Rich and comforting. Server was very accommodating.

The best seafood in Edinburgh and fantastic service! You won’t be disappointed by your order—I loved the ceviche, king scallop and salmon-haddock chowder. The star of the show was definitely my halibut entree cooked in a light tomato stew with clams, mussels, shrimp and a crispy piece of toast drizzled with tomato aioli. The textures, seasonings and harmonious flavors were delightful! The ceviche in particular was so light, tangy and refreshing, the perfect combination of flavors with a burst of citrus and sweetness of tomato—it came highly recommended by the server, who also shared that this place has the best supplier in town and the family owned restaurant has kept the top notch quality of their food the same for over 40 years. Apparently you can get a whole lobster for £30, so will be trying that next. Also tried the mussels, which are a generous portion of 40+ mussels for a starter and the white wine, garlic sauce was perfection. The linguini was hearty and had a kick to it, but would recommend another recommended option from the server. All in all, the seafood was as fresh as can be, I will be dreaming about this meal for a long time!

What wonderful service. I visited with my 87 year old friend who has bad teeth and bad eyes - he misread the menu and ordered something he couldn’t possibly have chewed - they simply swapped it for something else, with such understanding and a smile. He really enjoyed his fish cakes, I loved the oysters and scallops.

Good restaurant with good product, but you pay a very high price. Taking into account Edinburgh prices, nothing crazy. Very good service from a Spaniard from Alicante called Jose and his manager.

The food is very delicious, even the common fish/shrimp chips (deluxe) are amazing, very tender and juicy. The oysters were plump and crispy. This time I tried the original and Bloody Mary sauces. The Bloody Mary oysters are slightly spicy when you first eat them, but the more you eat, the more they taste. The restaurant also offers bread and pickled olives, but they cost an additional £4.50. The marinated olives are delicious and worth a try

Food was delicious, best I had while visiting Edinburgh. It was a really nice place too, just a little loud for me!

Went for oysters and the hot seafood platter for an anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint! It was wonderfully prepared. Oysters couldn’t have been more fresh! My only criticism would have some of that lovely garlic butter in a pot on the side for the seafood platter. Perfect selection of wines. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and nothing was too much trouble! Thank you again, and we’ll be back!

Anyone says less than 5 stars is cookoo! Best seafood, perhaps, anywhere!! So they’re 109% five star all the WAY! Rose & I are very careful about seafood… our Marriott hosts said to try Fishers…. Collectively my wife Rose and I are 133 years old (sorry Honey), we have NEVER HAD BETTER SEAFOOD! But there’s more; Behind the bar is Henry (pictured), a pure professional JOY! Then Liam (pictured) manages the floor with unmatched skill and talent and poise! The there’s the ultra shy Ada (no picture,too Shy) waiting our table with talents a plenty! Ok back to the food, we had the hot seafood platter ( see menu picture)… nothing short of Oh My God delicious, our best EVER! Ok, back to Henry… look fast cause he’s going to Australia!… find him and you’ll find great service and delightful bartending!!

The food and experience was not what we had expected. Presentation is beautiful however the food was disappointing and expensive. We were visiting from Canada and had been recommended by a local tour guide. We ordered the scallop appetizer which was three small scallops. We were asked if we wanted bread and olives. In Canada bread is complimentary. We should have looked more closely at the menu. The olives were good but expensive. I ordered the fish cakes I love fish cakes. The cakes smelt overwhelming like fish and were salty. Fish should never smell like fish. My husband ordered the seafood pasta it had bits of shell that was off putting. We were asked how our meal was we were honest and nice and were dismissed. I was told the fish cake recipe had been around since the restaurant opened and most people like it. My husband received the same type of dismal. Why ask us how our food was. Would not recommend. Expensive and food is not good. A bit pretentious was the vibe we got. The drink I ordered was amazing which sadly was the best thing about the meal. It was our wedding anniversary so I ordered a French martini.

Absolutely brilliant restaurant. It's not an extensive menu, but a good selection and the food is amazing. Staff very friendly and helpful , can't do enough for you.

Very disappointing visit. *Do NOT waste your time going if you have a peanut or nut allergy, especially if you are anaphylactic.* While we were informed of the menu items that did contain nuts, our server told us she didn’t feel comfortable serving my sister (who is anaphylactic to peanuts and nuts) any food at all. We left and it disrupted our family dinner on our first night out in the city. Nut allergies are common, and severe, and should be accommodated for, even in a shared kitchen.

My husband arrived 5 minutes later at 5.50pm. We ordered main courses and were told by the waitress there would be a long wait because we didn't order starters. Why should that affect the waiting time? The food mains were good, I have to say unexceptional. The rocket side salad had clearly been around in the kitchen for a while, it was wilted and the brocolli was completely unseasoned. No salt in the salt grinder. The empty plates sat on the table for 40 minutes. The restaurant was very busy but busy because of the number of tables in proportion to the staff and the need to turn over the tables to fit in more covers. When the waitress asked if we wanted deserts she waved the menus and said she would see what she could do (i.e do us a favour) but she said there wasn't much time. We were told there were people waiting for our table because we had sat a little longer at the table after finishing and paying the bill. When I offered feedback on our experience the waitress said "its the festival", "we are really busy", "I had a huge table to deal with" and then she added "and you were half an hour late". This was patently not true so when i challenged her she said "that's what I was told by the front desk". I then asked to speak to the manager who was very aggressive and when I tried to leave he blocked my way on the stairs and said smuggly "you were half an hour late" as if to say the whole terrible service experience was our fault. I tried to point out that this was wrong but he just kept going being rude and stopping me from leaving the restaurant. Honestly I felt sullied, bullied and so disappointed by the experience. This was supposed to be our treat meal in Edinburgh. Luckily it was not typical of our experience in a city we rather like. Fisher's needs to reduce the pressure on diners it seems to me this kind of experience is all because of maximising profits rather than providing a lovely service and experience for its' clients. I read a review by Jay Rayner from 2017 which said it needs a "friendly whack". It still needs that in 2024. Such a disappointment.

Food was really very good especially the mussels but service was inattentive and times and overbearing at others. I had fish and chips which was very good, daughter had mussels which were pretty much the best ever and the crème brute was apparently to die for Hopefully your experience will be 5 star all round Rob

We were a family of 10 with young children and it was our first night in Edinburgh. We thought we had a reservation at the restaurant but when no we arrived it turned out we didn’t. Chris ( restaurant manager) managed to get us tables despite it was a busy night. Henry our waiter was great and literally everyone was so nice and friendly. I give them 10/10 for service and 10/10 for the food. We will definitely come back next time we are in town. Thank you for the great hospitality.

Great seafood restaurant, fully discovered by the tourists. The food came so quickly, which is good when you are hungry, but also suggests that it was prepared in advance. Drinks rather expensive.

Poop trigger warning: We had the scallops and the muscles. One of the scallops had a really foul odor and really wrecked the rest of my meal. It literally tasted like poop. It was the most disgusting thing I ever had. Some of the muscles also had that taste and odor as well. I didn’t finish the meal. It didn’t feel safe.

If you love seafood this is the place to go! Had the half-lobster and scallops…it was hot, flavorful and delicious! The food came fast and was AWESOME! And the WINE selection is a literal chefs kiss!

Extremely greasy food. Fries were soggy and greasy. Fish was greasy and overcooked. Prawn was greasy and undercooked (batter still raw on the inside). Even the plate was greasy. They 100% did not use paper towels to remove excess grease. Presentation very bad. Fish piled on top of soggy fries and it rolled off my plate (maybe that was a sign).

Average British cuisine with no idea. Fried fish alla Kapitán Iglo (German frozen food). 🤨 It is a shame that there is no progress and innovation. Very good offer of white and red wines 👏👍

We were looking for fresh seafood while vacationing in Edinburgh. I had played golf earlier in the day with some very nice locals and a gentleman named Graham highly recommended this restaurant. He said it was not cheap , but very good and he had eaten there numerous times. Believe me ...it did not disappoint. Service, food, cleanliness were all great!

Most of food that I've tried were too much oily, buttery and creamy. They eventually made me feel sick so I couldn't finish the dishes. But all of staffs were very kind and helpful and the restaurant itself has nice vibe definitely.

By far one of the best fish restaurants I ever visited. Perfectly cooked fish, and excellent service.

My wife loved her mussels in curry sauce. My halibut was sadly overcooked, but accompaniments were tasty. Wine selection by the glass was mediocre and overpriced. I'd go to Howies instead every time.

Not our 1st visot. A good place to go on a special occasion, lovely location, surprisingly there is always a parking spot right outside, food is delicious, service amazing, and a good atmosphere even when gets busy.

Our reservation wasn't until 5pm. When we came in an hour early we still got a table. Very friendly service and exceptionally delicious food. Perfect ambiance for a cozy dinner.

The food was amazing. There were so many items on the menu that I wanted to try and I was not disappointed by the soup, prawns, and cheesecake that I did eat. The waitors were attentive without being overbearing and were great at providing suggestions. They were also very flexible when I needed to switch reservations.

From the Classic Fish and Chips to the special 1/2 lobster and fresh local diver scallops, this is a tucked away gem not to be missed. The meals were very reasonably priced as was the well rounded selection of international wines. The staff were all highly engaged, knowledgeable and welcoming. If you don’t have a reservation, the bar is a great place to slip in for an amazing last minute meal.
