Amazing service, atmosphere was adequate, and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, my whole table of 7 got sick from eating their seafood platter and oysters. If you were to eat here i recommend only getting the cooked food and nothing raw.

Love the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant. Just a shame the scaffolding is blocking the view of the city. But nevertheless it was still enjoyable with the view in the restaurant. The staff was friendly, welcoming and tentative. Food was well presented and cooked beautifully. Highly recommended. We'll definitely come back next time.

Food, service and atmosphere were outstanding - near perfect, in fact. But this ONLY JUST makes 5 stars: The portions were too small, especially given the prices one pays at other seafood restaurants. For example, other reviewers have left photos of the anaemic garlic butter 1/2 lobster - which is £35 at time of writing and comes with nothing else. On the flipside, the Oysters were much more sensibly priced and very nice indeed - shucked nicely too with no shell fragments at all. Don't let my portion complaint take away from how excellent the execution was though; I could not fault the cooking itself. If you want outstanding seafood, Ondine certainly delivers. The building was covered (totally) in scaffolding when I was there and it was quite difficult to find as a result. I was also quite hungry when I arrived having walked for miles around Edinburgh like a typical tourist does. I concede that these points may have factored into mine and others' views on the portion sizes, so I thought it fair not to deduct a star overall. I was seriously impressed with the quality of every dish I ordered.

Ondine was once restaurant of the year and it's easy to see why! It's got a tough location with all the construction but once you get inside it is a wonderful experience. We had monkfish satay and panko crusted haddock with mint pea sauce and caper mayonnaise. Oh, and the Zucchini and feta fritters were out of this world. Ondine does not rest on it's laurels - it delivers a great meal and experience.

Another incredible meal at Ondine last night. Gutted for them that the scaffolding outside is making the restaurant difficult to find as it is a true Scottish gem of a place selling the best (not cheapest) fresh seafood. Fab, friendly team who work hard to make sure your dining experience is the best. Really knowledgeable and can recommend dishes to your taste not to mention matching wines. Their cocktails are pretty fab too. Worth the find.

Confusing pricing between set menu and a la carte was not resolved and we paid far too much for the combination, despite trying to argue with the manager. Set menu on website £30.00 potted shrimp and cod. On the day potted shrimp and fish and chip.Cod not available so Ian chose potted shrimp from set menu and sole at £35.00. All of a sudden potted shrimp became £18.00 total £53.00 Fish and chips on a la carte is £25.00 so potted shrimp should be £5.00.Argument was potted shrimp was a la carte but can't Find that. I feel sorry for Ondine, their building works with no views must be a turn off for lunching guests but their superb staff made up for it and the food is fabulous.

This a high-end oyster bar/seafood restaurant with a chic modern atmosphere and awesome food. We had oysters, fish soup, and crab crumpet for starters, all of which were delicious. The crab was fluffy and beautifully dressed, and the fish soup was rich and creamy. For the main course, I had lobster thermidor, which was excellent. My companion had sole meunière, which was succulent and perfectly cooked. Our server was attentive and extremely knowledgeable. In all, a wonderful evening. We would recommend!

We were sat at the Oyster Bar for our reservation. Lovely setting, excellent drink options and food selections. Unfortunately, there were too many people involved in providing us service resulting is miscommunication and mistakes. We placed our dinner order with a second bartender and after nearly 30 minutes, he apologized for a “mixup in the kitchen” and offered a round of drinks on him. Then we received a set of side dishes we didn’t order from a different server. Then our original bartender said there was a mistake and to eat the sides with no charge. Then the server returned and took away the sides saying there was a mistake…then returned again with more sides apologizing. When our meal arrived, they didn’t include the sides we actually ordered. After an 1.5 hours of arriving, we received our full dinner. At that point, we ordered two glasses of wine and never received them. I asked for the check and it included everything, including the sides we didn’t order. Our bartender revised the check and a manager arrived to apologize and removed two drinks from our check. So after multiple “kitchen mistakes”, no drinks that we ordered and three checks, we paid and left. I hope @michelin recognizes that service should be as much part of their rating system as food quality. I would not consider this experience to be worthy of a Michelin rating or for the price point.

Menu of the day, Starter, Buttered shrimp base in a small ramekin Dish of the day, a small slice of brioche with a thin slice of smoked fish, a poached egg generously drizzled with butter cream (I thought it was a side dish, but no, it was the Main Course) no flavor, unappetizing visual. My parents had raved about this place however my partner and I who are locals had not been before. Considering the price point, the food was not great nor value for money. The fish soup was average, my dad received cod instead of squid and was only told about this change when it was served to him. I would say the mains were stronger in quality and seasoning to the starters. As an Edinburgh local, there is certainly better out there. Nothing wrong with the service, just the food.

Our family of four enjoyed our seafood dinner here. Really cool restaurant design and kind staff. We shared oysters, mussels, monkfish, and lobster. Monkish was the favorite for sure. Unfortunately our visit was a bit uneven because the table next to us wasn’t happy with a portion of their meal and they were quite vocal about it to their party and to staff. It definitely influenced our experience and not in a good way. We felt bad for them, evidently they didn’t like their oysters. Said they were bad. Ours were fine. Not sure if we’d return.

I've eaten here many times but this my first visit in two years. The sourcing of fish and shells is still as good as it ever was - Welch's fishmonger in Edinburgh i believe supplies the business. The food was ok and some very tasty dishes but portions were small for the price. The squid starter was just batter, this used to be a stand out dish, oysters were tiny with a very average mignonette, and my monkfish consisted of three finger sized bits of fish. Service can only be described as shocking!!! Had to ask twice for our champagne, forgot the sides, they arrived after two of our group had finished, wine only arrived after prompted twice. Sadly it was a very poor Montagny Ier Cru, sharp, acidic with little weight, it wasn't corked just poor wine at I think £70 ish a bottle. Pricing as always very high and this time didn't reflect VFM. The restaurant wasn't full on a Saturday night in a restaurant that has always been notoriously difficult to book. Empty tables at 8.30 and 6 seats at the oyster bar available??

I’d read so much about the restaurant that I was keen to check it out. The food quality was good, fish chosen very good. Portions were decent and service very friendly albeit not 100%. For the price, there are better places to go in Edinburgh with better service albeit the restaurant environment is smart and modern. I went for a birthday treat. Sadly the fish and seafood oup seemed to lack the key ingredients - seafood or fish. It may be a blended soup, but I like to see my fish in fish soup. Also, my companion had his own issues with the meal. Oh, and although my monkfish main was well-balanced flavour wise, there was only what u could say was one and a half "slices". And to add insult to injury, the matre di suggested we visit a good 'spit and sawdust" pub. I may not be part of "the Morningside set', but such open snobbery is frankly insulting. So, I suggest, if your face isn't going to fit, don't go. Not how I wanted to spend my special day.

We went to eat to this restaurant because it had the best reviews of the city. The experience was good... but then after few hours we present a food poisoness, all table got really sick. We called to the Restarurant in order to get at least an explanation, we didn´t ask for any refund, and we didn´t get anything, not even an apologize. We gave them some time to answer, and what come? nothing. I have to say it in a review. I do not recommend a place where you pay a big amount of money for a food that make you sick afterwards and not even a explanation about it. If this is the level, I cannot recommend a place like that.

We went to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday two weeks ago. As the reviews were so great and was recommended in every guide, we decided to go there and eat some seafood. After 24 hours some of the five people who attended to that dinner started to feel sick, and in the end all of us felt the food poisoning. Besides that, after telling this to the restaurant there was no reaction to that. Terribly sorry to have booked there, take our friends into intoxication and ruin some of our free days in Edinburgh.

Our visit was neither bad nor great, just okay. Food was fine and we didn’t have to wait too long for it. There were some annoying elements to the evening, we were served bread but it was just one slice cut into 2 pieces. We were asked if we wanted more, this time more than one slice between two was provided but at the end of the meal we’d been charged £4 for the extra bread. I don’t recall seeing that on the menu. Seems a bit tight. We had waiting staff unnecessarily add and remove cutlery several times during our visit which just didn’t need touching. Met up with an old rugby teammate from 39 years ago who was up in Edinburgh with his son, visiting his potential choice of university. He said why don’t we try Ondine. Lovely I thought, I’ve been before. We both had oysters cooked differently. I had the oyster tempura and he had buffalo oysters and his son had the squid tempura with the delicious Vietnamese dipping sauce. We were informed of the lemon sole special, by the hostess and it didn’t disappoint. Tow of us decided that it was a day for steak so we plumped for that, it was delicious one medium rare and the other medium well. Cooked to perfection for us both. Now for deserts. 2 cheese cakes and 1 cheese board to finish with. We were the last in the restaurant with no fuss from the staff just diligently going about their duties. The bill was settled and we disappeared into the Edinburgh night. I found the staff to be very friendly, professional and nothing seamed too much for them. I can/ will and would recommend this restaurant to everyone from a casual visit to takings friends colleagues and guests. 5/5 from us.

Food 5/5 Every dish I had there (soup, lobster thermidor, pavlova) were wonderfully made. However, as good as the lobster was, I don’t think it merited £45—it wasn’t even a particularly large lobster. Service 3.5/5 The staff was very friendly and professional. The bartender (I was sitting at the bar) gave me pretty helpful advice when I asked for recommended mains. My starter came very fast. However, my lobster took 20+ to arrive (after my starter was cleared away), which was rather longer than I’d like. During the wait, I also requested to add on a side of spinach along with my main, but that got forgotten. Ambiance 4/5 It was a chic and clean place. A little cramped for my liking. The bathroom looked very clean but smelled bad (of some strong cleaning product?)

Smart environment with great service. The oysters were the best and freshest I've had in the UK - Lindisfarne, truly delicious. The smoked salmon was excellent. My partner enjoyed the potted crab, but the crumb topping didn't work for me - not sure what it was but there was a strong allium flavour, chive oil maybe? The main of lemon sole was cooked really well - we went for both on and off the bone dishes. Sadly, though, both plates were completely lacking in seasoning, which put a bit of a dampener on things. We should have been confident enough to send them back for the kitchen to assess, but didn't. Nice atmosphere, and the wine and whisky list is good too.

Very touristy, overpriced and a little stuffy. Staff was very nice and helpful. Both food and drinks were overpriced. The soup was blended and had no seafood pieces in it. The smoked salmon was delicious and really the star. I had the lobster thermidor and it was ok, salty and came with nothing. I think for the price and portion, something should’ve been offered as a side. I would skip this place on our next visit.

Ondine never fails to deliver. This time it was to celebrate a 21st birthday and the food was just superb. Scallops, lemon sole, lobster, mussels all delicious and as fresh as could be. And the small bit of steak I tasted showed that the kitchen...

Once again, a fabulous night out in Ondine. Made to feel so welcome from the moment we walked into the main restaurant. The food was amazing, I had the fish soup, so tasty and plentiful. My wife had the smoked salmon. She loved it. We...

Outstanding food and service. Excellent lunch menu, amazing value! A La Cart usually standard with a few new dishes to sample. Shame there was a group of lads clearly out for a rowdy Xmas lunch - this caused undeserved pressure on the amazing staff team...

Once again a fantastic dining experience especially for my friends celebrating their wedding anniversary, expensive but you get what you pay for, if you want a cheaper experience I think there is a pizza express nearby

Wife was out with friends tonight so I thought ahh wee visit to Ondine. I’ve been here before and never had a bad experience. I made the call around lunch time, and reserved a spot at the crustacean bar. Greeted by staff like a long...

Went there for dinner tonight with friends. The Ambiente is quite nice, but the Food is extremely overpriced and not very nice. You could get a higher quality meal for a third of price in half of the restaurants of Edinburgh. In a nutshell terrible...

Really nice food, oysters super fresh! Lemon sole was cooked beautifully… I was eating early so maybe more atmosphere later in evening .. excellent staff.. it was a bit cold.. maybe a bit of a draft didn’t bother me so much as I am warm blooded but I know my wife would be not impressed. I will say it is freezing outside also!

As many others have said Ondine is over priced and the food is average at best. This would have been more acceptable if the service and ambience had been exceptional or even good, but sadly, they were not. There are much better places to eat...

Latest menus, they have got to be kidding! Go get a fish supper at their sister restaurant on a wee tram ride to Newhaven.

Did not disappoint at all. Dishes were unique and fresh. We were in Edinburgh for a couple days and at one point in search of a nice Scottish dinner and this place certainly lives up to our expectation. Some of the best oysters I’ve had and i’ve had loads😅 Great dining experience all around!!!

We ordered 6 x oysters to start and had roasted seafoods platter for main, paired with a bottle of white wine, fresh seafoods served in lovely garlic butter sauce, we finished everything and their treacle tart was yum, friendly and cheerful staff, must try when visiting Edinburgh!

We were recommended to this restaurant by our hotel, we asked for a good seafood restaurant and came here. The owner's Son seated us, and could not have been more helpful. He even arranged to customize an app for us. The food and service was superb, we will definitely return on our next visit.

Four of us went for lunch at 12..starters arrived at 1245…nearly 2.30pm before we had finished coffee and got the bill…very slow service..as others have mentioned. Normally not an issue but we had a train to catch. Food was excellent…all our fillet steaks were perfectly cooked..probably the best chips I have ever had in my life! I would certainly go back but there is a staff training issue that needs addressed.

Really enjoyed this. Great place for a date night if you like seafood. Busy, so advise booking in advance. Excellent service, well priced wine list. Enormous mussels. Side note: excellent chips.
