The food was excellent, the steaks perfectly cooked and the salads and sides very fresh and tasty. And we had great service! We were a large and challenging group of family traveling together. We had 2 people with food allergies, one person that was hearing impaired and a young baby. They were kind and very attentive to the allergy folks giving them lots of options. They even seated us in a closed section to accommodate the hearing impaired and young baby. The manager checked on us repeatedly. We all had a wonderful meal.

Wow…. We were in Edinburgh for a long weekend and came across this place on recommendation, we definitely were not disappointed. The staff are really friendly and welcoming from the moment you walk through the door. An excellent range of drinks from the bar and the cocktails were to die for made even better by the stake ( fillet highly recommended and cooked to perfection). The staff were very attentive throughout the evening but not over the top. A must if you are looking for somewhere to eat with a great atmosphere. I wish I could give you more than five stars. Thank you so much 😊

Great food however the service was shocking. We were served the wrong steak and wrong starter. Granted the staff did take these back and bring the correct ones it’s still not the point. To top it off we asked for the bill and they charged us for the £94 white wine not the £45-50 one. (Can’t remember the exact price) I’ll be reverting back to Gaucho from now on.

The ambience is incredible, the service is also excellent. Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio for the food can be improved... we got the wrong steaks (when we asked, we were assured they were the right ones) and unfortunately they weren't really medium as ordered, but rather well done. I think if you're going out to eat for €180, you should at least have the basics. In this case, unfortunately, a lot of money was paid for the ambience and service, not really for the food.

Such mixed views -have always been a fan! just didn't feel like a special occasion as it always has before. No personal touches, very family orientated and not date night vibes as it had been before. Chilly , and out of options ( lobster and sharing steaks at a decent size /price) waiter was nice but un interested and struggled to open the wine. As always food and wine and cocktails excellent 👌

We had a pleasure visiting this place recently and what a great experience it was. We knew what we wanted to order upfront - the Big Matt Burger. Yeah-yeah, it’s a steakhouse. But OMG, this burger is worth all the awards it had. It’s just that good. Starters were plentiful and tasty as well. The place is nice and the service was very welcoming and laid back. It’s located in the building built in early 20th century which used to be the Scottish Bank. Built to mimic the style old American banks. Overall inside it very stylish and while you wait for your order you can definitely enjoy the interior. Do I recommend? Yes! Will I come back or try it in other places? Yes to that as well.

We went as two couples on a Sunday to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. This is not the first time that we have dined here, so we knew that the meal would be excellent. We each ordered cocktails while we decided what we planned to eat. TJ (Irish) was our server and he was simply outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. One of the cocktails was not what had been expected and allowed us to switch this for another which was unexpected but a great goodwill gesture. We ordered our dishes and then one of TJ's colleagues asked if we wanted to choose a wine for the email. With the choice on offer we were struggling to choose one. We told him what kind we liked, and he suggested that he would bring a small taster of three on the menu. Again totally unexpected. We chose our wine. The main course was fantastic. With a bit of room left for dessert, we each ordered something different and another cocktail each. Again all fantastic and very generous portions. The pace of serving was on point, and we didn't feel at all rushed. The ambiance was perfect with just slight background music. Highly recommended.

One of my most favourite places to eat in Edinburgh as it always delivers an amazing food. My partner and I had visited last weekend and we had some seafood for starters and mixed grill for a main. It was unbelievably good. We really enjoyed it and washed it down with some lovely cocktails. A wonderful service too. All in all 10 out of 10!

Not worth a visit. Food was substandard. Salad was almost exclusively leaves, no balance and little ingredients. Not sure if steaks were mixed up as medium appeared more rare ...and the supposed rare steak was tough. Chips were good. Service felt like 'pass the parcel' ( individuals were good but process poor) and it felt like a waste of an evening in Edinburgh which is a city with more to offer. The bill did deduct the poor food order so thanks for that and good service points. Finally music choice was a lazy- leave it in the 80s with no effort vibe.

Wanted a Sunday Roast for our booking at 6.15pm and told no roast available, no fries, no Yorkshire puddings. You would think they would have thought about forward bookings on a Sunday for the roast ? What was the point of going. Order the mix grill and really that was expensive and a let down. Very average food and bad salad and potate mash.

We came to Hawksmoor for my birthday and I was quite disappointed by the food. We were really looking forward to the steak but once it had arrived the fat hadn’t been rendered and it was really chewy. The sides were nice but we were so disappointed by the steak. The sticky toffee pudding was nice.

Stopped by here on a Sunday night without a reservation and was surprised at how busy the place was. We ordered the larger chateaubraind and various sides. The steak was cooked perfectly, looked delicious but there was a section we couldn't cut or eat (I actual spat out a few mouthfuls) due to a run of sinew running through it. The section we could eat was very good as was the mash, mac n cheese and the bitter salad leaves. Our server asked how our food was when she cleared the table and I mentioned and apologised about the half chewed lumps on the plate. She took note and apologised in return for the cut. We were happy enough to raise this without much fuss as we had enjoyed everything else and had been able to eat 3/4 of the steak, but she had mentioned to management who again apologised, asked if we were OK to be resat elsewhere as our table was required and served us comp desserts. Again which were delicious. We were really impressed how professionally all staff that were involved with this issue dealt with it. We very much appreciated it.

I'm quite disappointed, to say the least. The steaks are served on a plate with nothing else. The least one could do is put a pure or 2 baby carrots or something. Next the cook of my steak was not amazing, I asked for rare and it was slightly over cooked, cooking stake is a bit of a basic. The peppercorn sauce isn't great. Also the carpaccio is too salty. The cesaer salad side was good and the steaks were not bad. Unfortunately not worth what we paid and we had way better steaks for cheaper in Edinburgh.

First visit to Edinburgh and to Hawksmoor, will 100% return. Really lovely service from every staff member. Had the potted beef to start, which was delicious and a generous portion. Fillet steak and ships with peppercorn sauce, cooked perfectly and one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. As part of the set menu also had a sticky toffee sundae which again was a good size portion and tasted really nice, couldn’t fault it. (My wife had the peanut butter shortbread which she raved about too!) Had a lovely wedding anniversary meal, thanks again guys. Hope to return soon!

I had always left 5 star reviews for Hawksmoor. Sunday roast has deteriorated. Overcooked meat. Veg no longer beautiful buttery. Roast potatoes no longer cooked as described. One roast potato tasted as if it had gone bad by having been prepared too far in advance of service. Roast garlic gone. I was still hungry when I left. Hawksmoor Sunday roast had always been hearty and of consistent quality. I spoke with the manager about sinew in a steak I’d ordered on a previous visit. He explained that I’d ordered at a low price point such that it was okay to serve me steak with sinew in it. I consider if my deteriorated roast today was due to me ordering only the roast and thus spending only £30. Hawksmoor now has no real standard. An Update: I returned today for the first time in months. I was assured over the phone that the meat would be pink, and then when ordering at the restaurant, I clarified with the waitress. The meat was over cooked. I spoke with the manager who repeatedly offered me compensation (disrespectful) rather than improving his restaurant. I didn’t state this previously however will now, the waiters harass the customer by abruptly asking how the food is when the customer has food and fork in his mouth, and, by constantly filling up glasses when the customer would rather not be disturbed.

This place is a gem of a find! We came for my husband’s birthday, and we were not disappointed. The food is excellent, the service amazing and the ambiance perfect! We have eaten in many places around the world and quite honestly, the steaks were the best we have ever had. There was a slight hiccup with my husbands steak order in terms of the size, they were up front and very transparent about their error and handled it perfectly with complimentary desert and a glass of wine each. Great service! We will recommend and will be back. Thank you everyone, we had an amazing night. Tina & Steve We were so enamoured by this place we returned Saturday 15th. We were a walk in and waited for a hour for our table, at the bar. Great bar service and our wait passed in a jiffy. Although, the Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon was exceptional, the mark up is excruciating. We ordered the Sunday lunch menu and the food was well presented with delicious ingredients but, and it’s a big but, it was lukewarm bordering on cold. If we hadn’t been on a tight schedule, we would have sent it back. We were credited with a main course which was appreciated. We put it down to an off day and probably will return as the service, ambience and food was of a high quality, albeit a little cold.

Came here with my girlfriend ordered sunday sharing roast expecting 5star quality food as the pictures show,unfortunately we were left totally underwhelmed, prime rib not bad 5/10! as for the roast potatoes very hard and with not much actual potato inside, bland boiled. We carrots,cabbage and as for the gravy well totally tasteless may as well of poured the free tap water they provide over our dinner ,got 20pound knocked off for explaining how crap shit it was and a free sticky toffee pudding, overated far to expensive don't waste your time or money.

Staff were lovely. The food was OK at best. I had a starter of crab on toast. This is a dish that requires light crispy toast. What came instead was so tough I could hardly manage to cut it with a knife. Chips were good but came in rather small portions. The weirdest problem was that all evening there was a low-pitched (almost subsonic) thumping sound, which was very unsettling. It seemed to be electronic but could hardly be described as musical.

We went to try the food here as an option for our wedding food. We were served by Abbey. There was food that was unavailable that we specifically wanted to try and Abbey found us an alternative solution. She is excellent at her job and a real credit to herself and Hawksmoor. The food is worth what you pay - we had an amazing meal. As constructive feedback: the times/days when deals are on and the opening hours are complicated and it's easy to get confused.

Start with a very rushed but badly trained waiter serving six people.An eight pm seating is acceptable for North Americans but when it takes twenty minutes before a server arrives and then doesn’t input our order immediately that leads to a skippy selection of very overpriced steak, we are left with a diminished experience immediately. Our steak wasn’t properly cooked and three men were unable to cut said meat without exerting extreme pressure. Perhaps the chief was off that night but don’t then have the Gaul to impose a ridiculous fee. The service was so chaotic that the fee was quickly reduced. We still paid too much for an overrated meal. A local diner or pub provides a better product. This establishment should provide much more serious knives to cut through what is supposedly their flagship product. Can’t believe they are in business.Standards are clearly very low for fine dining in Scotland.

Very nice place but the lobster was very rubbery (compared to US lobsters), but the steak was great and the toffee sundae was absolutely amazing. The dessert by far the best we've ever had!! One thing to note is it inside the hotel but it is very easy to get inside, if your taking a ride share have them drop you off on the side as the road gets very busy. Even coming outside it's a great place to take pictures, as the hotel had so many decorations up for Christmas.

Amazing meal in a beautiful setting. If you like a good choice of steaks then this is the place for you! Good choice of starters and sides as well as the amazing steaks on offer of course! We enjoyed a beautiful chateaubriand which was cooked exactly as asked with the mash and bone marrow gravy - yum!! Very busy so would definitely advise booking a table. Would definitely recommend.

Came here for a sunday dinner, didn't receive gravy with it and the beef was quite tough with a sour taste to it. When we brought it to the attention of a member of staff we were told we'd get a free dessert. We insisted we didn't want dessert and just wanted our bill. Plates got cleared and next thing you know a sticky toffee pudding shows up at our table.. nice of them to do however we asked for our bill and told them we were okay without dessert multiple times. Food far too small proportioned and sour tasting considering the price.

Dinner was lovely, I have been to London Hawksmoor many times and Edinburgh lives up to the brand. Slightly more expensive than other places but well worth it for the food, service, location and vibes!

We visited Hawksmoor Edinburgh after having a meal at Hawksmoor NYC the night my now fiancé proposed to me. We had such a wonderful experience in New York we had to visit the Edinburgh restaurant. We had a table for 5 o’clock which is when they reopen for dinner so it was very quiet when we arrived, we were sat in a separate closed off section from the main restaurant area which was lovely, however as time went on the restaurant filled up and there wasn’t a spare seat by time we left. The service was great, our waitress was friendly and we were taken care of very well. I wanted to start my meal with some olives which they don’t have on their menu but our waitress was kind enough to ask the bar for some and they were presented to me beautifully! The food and wine were great too. It is expensive but worth a visit. We were then lucky enough to get some seats at the bar after dinner & our friends joined us for a drink before we left.

Was really looking forward to visiting based on the website / images. The restaurant is beautiful, based in what seems to be a former old bank. Food was decent but nothing to rave about. I base this on the fact we paid in excess of £100 per head including drinks. Not a fan of the sharing plate set up at all. Overall opinion was nice venue, over priced average food, service was ok.

Cher, trop cher pour la quantité dans l’assiette. On est venu à 4 on a partagé 750 grammes de viandes avec de jeunes ados et 1 dessert + glaces (2 boules) et on s’est retrouvé avec une addition plus que salée: 240£. La qualité des aliments rien à dire mais j’ai cherché les 750gr !!! et les garnitures étaient minuscules. Nous ne sommes de gros mangeurs mais la c’est abusé. Nous n’y retournerons pas. Sacré budget pour un séjour.

The food was absolutely fantastic, but the true highlight of our visit was the incredible kindness of the blonde-haired lady who works there. It was pouring rain, and we were completely soaked, but she went above and beyond by giving us her umbrella and wishing us a happy new year. 🥹❤️ This simple act of generosity turned a rainy day into the best part of our Edinburgh trip and gave us one of the most memorable New Year’s gifts we’ve ever received. Thank you so, so much for your kindness! ☔

Had an £85 porterhouse steak and whilst nice was not £85 nice. A very mediocre steak experience which when you compare to the price reflects on the three star review. Exceptional setting however. Beautiful.

2nd visit update: This time we came for a steak dinner. Unfortunately the food we had didn't quite meet expectations. It was still really good, don't get me wrong, which is why this is still a 4 star review. However, given the price I was expecting more. Shirley Temple and Spicy Agave mocktails, 10/10, we had these as apperitifs and they were excellent. My agave drink was so intensely flavoured, smokey, spicy, a real treat. Scallops, 8/10, my wife ordered these for starters, tender and flavourful, good start to the meal. Smoke salmon, 7/10, I ordered these for starter, the smoked salmon was nice, had a lovely buttery texture, the dish overall was lovely, albeit a little simple Ribeye and beef tallow fried chips, plus marrow gravy, 7/10, we both opted for the ribeye because it's our favourite cut of beef and enjoy the juiciness you get from the extra fat. This was a very good steak, decent size and tasty, tender meat. We just felt it was lacking a bit of that wow factor to make it feel worth the price. The sear/crust was fairly lacking. Chips were nice, but again, nothing special. Sticky toffee pudding, 8/10, really good rendition of this british classic, the sauce was lovely and intense and the cream cut through it well. Though I will say, after such a heavy main course I would have preferred something lighter or fruitier. Overall, this was a good meal. Left the building feeling absolutely stuffed to the gills (in a good way). There was just something missing to elevate this to the next level. --- 1st visit: Came here for cocktails, which were about as perfect as you can expect. Tried three different varieties of Negroni, each came with those nice big single blocks of ice that help prevent your drink getting watered down. Sure, they were a bit pricey at £13 a pop, but when the quality is there I don't mind paying. Didn't get food here, they were too busy, but we'll definitely be returning!

Nice food and excellent service! I tried Hawksmoor Air Street in London and loved the cod, but the one I had in Edinburgh wasn't done as well... when I gave the staff my feedback, they actually waived the cost! Other than that, everything else we ordered were very good! Certainly recommend this place to anyone in town. :)

The customer service is appalling. Went in as a walk in and asked for a table for two, was told there was no tables, I said what about that table there (there was a few other empty tables) with a sigh, you can have the table until 7.30pm, it was 6.15pm. The service was very slow and about 7.15pm we were asked to move tables, i responded with there are other tables, we then said we wanted coffee and pudding, they took the order, again can we move you to another table, again, I responded with there are other tables that are free. I was then asked to move to the bar. I told them just give me the bill. I have never been chased out of a restaurant before, by this point there was even more empty tables. I was asked to pay service charge and told them that they had a nerve given the abhorrent way we had been treated. I then had to go back as we had been charged for coffee and pudding that we had not received. I asked to speak to the manager and was told by the individual she was the manager, and this was all just a communication breakdown, you were the one constantly asking us to leave, and you had plenty of other tables. I was supposed to get a phone call the next day which I still have not received. This is a very average restaurant, and typical chain. The architecture of the building exceeds the level of the food, general cleanliness of the restaurant and the quality of the ingredients served. The location is the main advantage of it, and for a quick mid week meal it would have sufficed, its certainly not a special occasion restaurant but given the poor food and poor service, its not somewhere I would go back to and is best avoided

We were poisoned. Worst service I’ve had in years. The food was ok, but not worth what we paid. I’ve had better steaks elsewhere. To summarise we were welcomed and given a nice table for my wife’s 40th with friends. We ordered drinks which took 30mins to arrive if I didn’t ask where they were I am certain we wouldn’t have gotten any. The waitresses response was a shrug and said the bar ticket didn’t print ( as if it was my fault). She did however check the dietary requirements of guests but sold us food with the things in it one guest was allergic to. The food took fourty minutes to arrive (no starters) and by the time it hit the table people were tucking in. By the time the staff realised what they’d served my friend it was half eaten, he took a bad reaction and spent most of the night in the toilet. No one did a check back on any of our food. Sure they took my friends food off the bill, as you would expected. But everyone felt the service was the just the worst. When the bill came I noticed they tried to charge me for more expensive versions of our drinks that we didn’t order! FYI the cocktails were tiny and meh! I did try to speak with the manager but before I could, a staff member rudely jumped in front me. I didn’t even bother to tell him how crap the service was or ask why the hell a service charge was added? I just paid and left. I told my friends if you want a decent steak go anywhere but here. The service, the level of care and the value for money don’t add up.

My partner and I visited The Pepperpot with a couple of family members for Sunday lunch. We took advantage of the three-course set lunch (priced at £20.95) which had a good choice of roast meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes included

Nice restaurant and nice atmosphere. My oysters didn’t seem right I ordered Whole lobster thermidor at £68. Very disappointed. It wasn’t whole. This lobster had no claws. It was dry and served on it own on a plate with a side tin of fries. No garnish to dress it up or make it look special. I didn’t complain because it would ruin the evening Wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend The bottle of Rioja was nice. My wife’s dish looked lovely.

Wow wow wow! Ondine at Seaton House was the most fabulous experience. Firstly the setting, sea views in a beautifully decorated room. It’s comfortable, sophisticated but super welcoming as well. The food is Roy Brett’s usual perfection. We enjoyed a range of seafood and beef all cooked and presented beautifully. Finally, the staff are charming and super professional. Shout out to Craig and Roy for looking after us so well. Most definitely worth the trip north to St Andrews. And look forward to coming back soon.
