Very nice place but the lobster was very rubbery (compared to US lobsters), but the steak was great and the toffee sundae was absolutely amazing. The dessert by far the best we've ever had!! One thing to note is it inside the hotel but it is very easy to get inside, if your taking a ride share have them drop you off on the side as the road gets very busy. Even coming outside it's a great place to take pictures, as the hotel had so many decorations up for Christmas.

Excellent evening with great steaks, Becca who looked after us was brilliant. The only criticism I have is that unfortunately like many establishments the price is getting a little silly.

Amazing meal in a beautiful setting. If you like a good choice of steaks then this is the place for you! Good choice of starters and sides as well as the amazing steaks on offer of course! We enjoyed a beautiful chateaubriand which was cooked exactly as asked with the mash and bone marrow gravy - yum!! Very busy so would definitely advise booking a table. Would definitely recommend.

Came here for a sunday dinner, didn't receive gravy with it and the beef was quite tough with a sour taste to it. When we brought it to the attention of a member of staff we were told we'd get a free dessert. We insisted we didn't want dessert and just wanted our bill. Plates got cleared and next thing you know a sticky toffee pudding shows up at our table.. nice of them to do however we asked for our bill and told them we were okay without dessert multiple times. Food far too small proportioned and sour tasting considering the price.

We visited Hawksmoor Edinburgh after having a meal at Hawksmoor NYC the night my now fiancé proposed to me. We had such a wonderful experience in New York we had to visit the Edinburgh restaurant. We had a table for 5 o’clock which is when they reopen for dinner so it was very quiet when we arrived, we were sat in a separate closed off section from the main restaurant area which was lovely, however as time went on the restaurant filled up and there wasn’t a spare seat by time we left. The service was great, our waitress was friendly and we were taken care of very well. I wanted to start my meal with some olives which they don’t have on their menu but our waitress was kind enough to ask the bar for some and they were presented to me beautifully! The food and wine were great too. It is expensive but worth a visit. We were then lucky enough to get some seats at the bar after dinner & our friends joined us for a drink before we left.

Was really looking forward to visiting based on the website / images. The restaurant is beautiful, based in what seems to be a former old bank. Food was decent but nothing to rave about. I base this on the fact we paid in excess of £100 per head including drinks. Not a fan of the sharing plate set up at all. Overall opinion was nice venue, over priced average food, service was ok.

The food was absolutely fantastic, but the true highlight of our visit was the incredible kindness of the blonde-haired lady who works there. It was pouring rain, and we were completely soaked, but she went above and beyond by giving us her umbrella and wishing us a happy new year. 🥹❤️ This simple act of generosity turned a rainy day into the best part of our Edinburgh trip and gave us one of the most memorable New Year’s gifts we’ve ever received. Thank you so, so much for your kindness! ☔

Nice food and excellent service! I tried Hawksmoor Air Street in London and loved the cod, but the one I had in Edinburgh wasn't done as well... when I gave the staff my feedback, they actually waived the cost! Other than that, everything else we ordered were very good! Certainly recommend this place to anyone in town. :)

2nd visit update: This time we came for a steak dinner. Unfortunately the food we had didn't quite meet expectations. It was still really good, don't get me wrong, which is why this is still a 4 star review. However, given the price I was expecting more. Shirley Temple and Spicy Agave mocktails, 10/10, we had these as apperitifs and they were excellent. My agave drink was so intensely flavoured, smokey, spicy, a real treat. Scallops, 8/10, my wife ordered these for starters, tender and flavourful, good start to the meal. Smoke salmon, 7/10, I ordered these for starter, the smoked salmon was nice, had a lovely buttery texture, the dish overall was lovely, albeit a little simple Ribeye and beef tallow fried chips, plus marrow gravy, 7/10, we both opted for the ribeye because it's our favourite cut of beef and enjoy the juiciness you get from the extra fat. This was a very good steak, decent size and tasty, tender meat. We just felt it was lacking a bit of that wow factor to make it feel worth the price. The sear/crust was fairly lacking. Chips were nice, but again, nothing special. Sticky toffee pudding, 8/10, really good rendition of this british classic, the sauce was lovely and intense and the cream cut through it well. Though I will say, after such a heavy main course I would have preferred something lighter or fruitier. Overall, this was a good meal. Left the building feeling absolutely stuffed to the gills (in a good way). There was just something missing to elevate this to the next level. --- 1st visit: Came here for cocktails, which were about as perfect as you can expect. Tried three different varieties of Negroni, each came with those nice big single blocks of ice that help prevent your drink getting watered down. Sure, they were a bit pricey at £13 a pop, but when the quality is there I don't mind paying. Didn't get food here, they were too busy, but we'll definitely be returning!

The customer service is appalling. Went in as a walk in and asked for a table for two, was told there was no tables, I said what about that table there (there was a few other empty tables) with a sigh, you can have the table until 7.30pm, it was 6.15pm. The service was very slow and about 7.15pm we were asked to move tables, i responded with there are other tables, we then said we wanted coffee and pudding, they took the order, again can we move you to another table, again, I responded with there are other tables that are free. I was then asked to move to the bar. I told them just give me the bill. I have never been chased out of a restaurant before, by this point there was even more empty tables. I was asked to pay service charge and told them that they had a nerve given the abhorrent way we had been treated. I then had to go back as we had been charged for coffee and pudding that we had not received. I asked to speak to the manager and was told by the individual she was the manager, and this was all just a communication breakdown, you were the one constantly asking us to leave, and you had plenty of other tables. I was supposed to get a phone call the next day which I still have not received. This is a very average restaurant, and typical chain. The architecture of the building exceeds the level of the food, general cleanliness of the restaurant and the quality of the ingredients served. The location is the main advantage of it, and for a quick mid week meal it would have sufficed, its certainly not a special occasion restaurant but given the poor food and poor service, its not somewhere I would go back to and is best avoided

We were poisoned. Worst service I’ve had in years. The food was ok, but not worth what we paid. I’ve had better steaks elsewhere. To summarise we were welcomed and given a nice table for my wife’s 40th with friends. We ordered drinks which took 30mins to arrive if I didn’t ask where they were I am certain we wouldn’t have gotten any. The waitresses response was a shrug and said the bar ticket didn’t print ( as if it was my fault). She did however check the dietary requirements of guests but sold us food with the things in it one guest was allergic to. The food took fourty minutes to arrive (no starters) and by the time it hit the table people were tucking in. By the time the staff realised what they’d served my friend it was half eaten, he took a bad reaction and spent most of the night in the toilet. No one did a check back on any of our food. Sure they took my friends food off the bill, as you would expected. But everyone felt the service was the just the worst. When the bill came I noticed they tried to charge me for more expensive versions of our drinks that we didn’t order! FYI the cocktails were tiny and meh! I did try to speak with the manager but before I could, a staff member rudely jumped in front me. I didn’t even bother to tell him how crap the service was or ask why the hell a service charge was added? I just paid and left. I told my friends if you want a decent steak go anywhere but here. The service, the level of care and the value for money don’t add up.

I had always left 5 star reviews for Hawksmoor. Sunday roast has deteriorated. Overcooked meat. Veg no longer beautiful buttery. Roast potatoes no longer cooked as described. One roast potato tasted as if it had gone bad by having been prepared too far in advance of service. Roast garlic gone. I was still hungry when I left. Hawksmoor Sunday roast had always been hearty and of consistent quality. I spoke with the manager about sinew in a steak I’d ordered on a previous visit. He explained that I’d ordered at a low price point such that it was okay to serve me steak with sinew in it. I consider if my deteriorated roast today was due to me ordering only the roast and thus spending only £30. Hawksmoor now has no real standard.

Having previously visited Hawksmoor in London and eating the best steak I had ever tasted, I had high hopes when I booked this restaurant for lunch. I couldn't have been more mistaken. On arrival I ordered a glass of prosecco which could only be described as flat. This was replaced by another glass which did have more fizz. My partner and I decided to order from the express menu. He chose the rump steak and I chose the fillet, which had a £6 supplement. We both chose to have our steak medium cooked. We waited a considerable time for our meal to be served. On arrival both steaks looked overdone on the outside. However, when the steaks were cut into, this required considerable force on both our parts, his was very red and oozing blood and my steak was completely over cooked and dry, with not even a hint of pink. As we had waited so long for our meal and were both hungry, we decided to eat what we could. When the server asked how our meal was I told her mine had been grossly overcooked. She offered to have another steak cooked, saying it would take 10 minutes. As we were halfway through our meal and I had decided to leave the best part of my steak I declined her offer. We moved on to the dessert which was tasty. I should say at this point that I wasn't charged for my meal but I was charged the supplement for the fillet steak. Our server was very pleasant. The same could not be said for the reception staff, who did not lift their heads to acknowledge us when we left. All in all a very disappointing experience and I won't be back.

The gent on Reception gave us a warm welcome and was very friendly, we had a good chat on the way in and way out! It always sets the mood that you're in for an enjoyable evening. We were a little early so opted for a drink at the bar which was nice, the guy behind the bar again very friendly. We then moved through to the dining room and was seated near the open kitchen. We are creatures of habit and generally always order the same thing and it never disappoints! We normally go for the early bird set menu which is a superb deal! We both had the Yorkshires and Potted Beef which is an absolute must to try! We then both went for the Fillet Tail with Beef Dripping Chips, I had Bearnaise and he had the Stilton Hollandaise Sauce. There is sadly never any room for dessert which is never a bad thing. Everything was cooked to perfection! Cannot recommend this Hawksmoor or any Hawksmoor enough. Went with my daughter for the Sunday roast. Our reservation was at 4:30pm but they’d already ran out of their famous stuffing, cauliflower cheese and mushrooms. However one highlight of our visit was our waiter kindly taking off our bill the 2 sides we had ordered to compensate for the inconvenience of running out of the sides we wanted. The biggest disappointment of the afternoon is that their Sunday roast menu only offers the roast beef option yet in Manchester’s Hawksmoor there’s a roast chicken option too, which my daughter wanted to order. Once again, the waiter went out of his way to accommodate her by offering her the piri piri chicken from the main menu instead, but she settled for the roast beef. Ultimately, the roast beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and veggies were all alright with the only item we thought as very tasty being the gravy. We did however really enjoy the desserts we ordered and thought these were of a higher standard than the roast dish. Service at Hawksmoor Edinburgh is very good as is the buzzing atmosphere and elegant traditional interiors, however It’s unlikely we’ll be going back again for their Sunday roast but may give them another try for their steaks.

Peppercorn sauce wasn't the best, quite thin and lacking peppery taste. Very disappointing. As this is a steak specialist restaurant, I ordered a fillet steak and asked for it to cooked medium rare. It arrived very rare, with the outer 2 mm chargrilled and the rest of the inside completely raw, i.e. blue. I sent it back and asked for it to be cooked some more but when it came back it was just chargrilled more and still as raw on the inside. My friend's burger was so chargrilled it was completely charred black on the outside and overcooked on the inside. The waiter was very good, however, and took both the steak and the burger off our bill. I very rarely complain in a restaurant but Hawksmoor is meant to be a high end restaurant and their chefs should be able to cook steaks to perfection.

If Christmas dinners were a competitive sport, the Hawksmoor Christmas feast would be the Olympian holding the Gold! When it comes to Christmas feasting, Hawksmoor’s festive feasting is all about communal dining and sharing. They have three Festive menus to choose from, each available as a 2 course or a 3 course: Moonlighter (£62/£67) Silvertail (£73/£78) Hawkbelle (£93/98) Each menu is meant for sharing and has three starters, three charcoal-grilled steaks with alternative mains of monkfish and a vegetarian wellington, several sides and two puddings to choose from. I recently had the pleasure of experiencing their Festive Feast, complete with accompanying wines and cocktails. The atmosphere, the flavours, and the warm hospitality all combined to make it an unforgettable festive dining experience. Starters of : Fillet Carpaccio with pickled mushrooms and crispy shallots offered a delicate, buttery texture with rich, savoury flavours, balanced by the tangy, earthy mushrooms and the crunchy, sweet shallots. Roasted Scallops with white port and garlic offered up a delicate sweetness, complemented by the rich, caramelized notes of white port. The garlic added a fragrant, savoury depth. Yorkshire Puddings with onion gravy and Potted Beef and Bacon. The Yorkies were fluffy and golden perfect for soaking up the rich onion gravy. The wee jar of potted beef was smoky and meaty which was very satisfying. The sides offered a delightful variety, from the indulgent beef dripping chips, creamy spinach, and rich beef and bone marrow stuffing to the comforting mash with gravy and the sweet-savoury maple-glazed cows in blankets. For a lighter touch, the vegan lettuce and herb salad provided a refreshing contrast, while the Brussels sprouts with chestnuts and bacon and the creamy macaroni cheese added hearty, flavourful options to round out the meal. This festive feast is a true celebration of steak, offering an array of succulent, perfectly seasoned, and expertly cooked cuts. Depending on your menu choice, you'll have the pleasure of indulging in some of the finest steaks available. We savoured an assortment that included the rich and tender Chateaubriand, the robust and hearty Porterhouse, and the flavourful Prime Rib. For me, the Chateaubriand stood out as the most tender, melting in the mouth with each bite, while the Prime Rib boasted the most intense, savoury flavour. The Porterhouse, with its delightful balance of textures, also provided a satisfying experience. Without a doubt, Hawksmoor delivers the BEST sticky toffee pudding in Edinburgh, especially when catering to a large party of guests. This magnificent dessert comes in the form of a bundt cake, proudly sitting in a generous pool of the ultimate toffee sauce with extra sauce and clotted cream on the side. Optional extras include IJ Mellis finest cheeses and Hawksmoor’s own version of ‘rolos’, affectionately named Tributes. The festive feast dining experience at Hawksmoor is a celebration of exceptional culinary craftsmanship and warm, communal dining that promises to create unforgettable festive memories. With its meticulously crafted menus, luxurious private dining options, and impeccable service, booking a festive feast at Hawksmoor should be a no-brainer!

I was born into the Sublime Society by way of my father's contributions, and for Hawksmoor to be carrying on such honoured traditions, is something special in this day and time. You come for the steaks, of course, but you find yourself being given a level of service that is almost non-existent in today's restaurants. Everything was absolutely incredible. The prime rib was expertly done and cooked perfectly, the presentation was stunning. Our server was Sarah and she was so lovely, very attentive and friendly with great suggestions for food and drinks.

Unfortunately, the food was incredible bland and made me feel sick. It’s a shame because we have been to the location in London and it was fantastic. My steak was so overcooked it was so chewy and tasted like nothing. The cocktails were not well made, and it took 30 minutes for them to serve me a glass of wine. By the time it arrived I was already done eating. The ambiance was nice, but that’s about it. Would not recommend.

We found better quality meat for a much better price elsewhere, however the setting and service makes up for it.

It’s not cheap but it is absolutely delicious. We came here for our 3rd visit this year as a table of 5. Our server was great and even when things weren’t quite perfect he was quick to rectify it in the best way possible. The rib eye that I had was genuinely the best steak that I’ve ever had and the chips dipped in the bone marrow gravy were phenomenal! All in all it was expensive (£110 per person for 2 courses, a pre drink and a glass of wine each plus service) but personally I think the cost is justified and wouldn’t hesitate to return for another special occasion/treat meal.

We were excited to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary at Hawksmoor. We were getting great service from our waiter, DT, but we unfortunately overheard a disturbing conversation which appeared to be a manager belittling and talking disrespectfully to him. He was clearly shaken afterward, as anyone would be. Such a disappointment for a restaurant of this caliber. Until that, it was a perfect evening.

Food was very good. Service was atrocious. It took over 30 minutes for our first drink order. Food order took over an additional 30 minutes. Food was delivered to the table and then absolutely no check back. One person in our party had to go up to the serving station to get condiments. No check on steaks or asking about a second drink order. We finally had to ask another waiter - who told us our waiter was on break. Finally placed a second drink order and it was another 20 minutes until we received them. Waited forever for a dessert menu - had to ask a different waiter again. When desserts were dropped off, there was no cutlery given to us. We had to ask yet another waiter for cutlery. She was pretty embarrassed that we had just been left with nothing. No further stop backs at table until we finally flagged down a waiter for the bill. We were there for 3 hours with not one waiter who took responsibility for our table. The service was appalling given how much we spent.

Loved the atmosphere, good and service in Hawksmoor. The steak was delicious and to perfection. Booked a big table, and we were lucky to get the private room. The staff were very attentive and we received a great service. I will be booking again soon.

Had a great experience here, just as good as Manchester or Liverpool restaurant. I can't understand some of the negative one-star reviews. It's definitely five stars, and the staff are excellent.

Went here on a Tuesday night for our 30th anniversary dinner. Our party had to wait for 30 minutes for our table even with an 8:30 reservation. We were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" card at our table. That was very sweet of them for the acknowledgement. We had a nice waitress that tried her best. However, she didn't know some of the dinner menu and bar stock. Probably not her fault for the bar stock. She sent the gentleman over who did know, and we proceeded to order. The cocktails were very overpriced and little to no alcohol. So, the group ordered dinner and everything went down hill from there. We ordered different dishes so that we could get a broad assessment of the food. After 45 minutes the dishes came out. The ladies both ordered the filets. Each one a different temperature. Both were served cooked at the wrong temperature. They had to send back both. The potatoes with a chunk of cheese in the center were served cold. The potatoes were also sent back. The second serving of the potatoes were again served cold. The mac and cheese was terrible. My friend got the ribeye and was mostly fat. He knows there is some, but this was too much. The waitress was mortified to come back to the table, so she sent someone else to come over and run interference. The manager should have been sent over, however he was too busy with the adjacent table becsuse their food came out terrible, from what we could hear. The kitchen staff failed miserably. They should be re-trained in the art of food preparation. Their lack of awareness for taste and culinary arts has "left a bad taste in our mouths". You only get one chance to celebrate your 30th wedding anniversary and they did a very poor job of meeting and/or exceeding expectations.

Extraordinary steak unmarred by excessive details, sauces, or other unnecessary things. Just plain delicious with optional sides. Strongly recommend the rib-eye for those of you who enjoy mid-sized portions. Definitely a bit small for the very hubgry, but other, more expensive and large cuts are available.

Food was good, as any other Hawksmoor. But service was terrible in this location. Worst point was that they did not know they are doing bad. After the first drink, I had to flag other waiters to provide me another drink. I called them up several times but culture to check in and care for customer was just not there

I made a last minute reservation with Hawksmoor and despite being very busy, they gladly got us a table for four and an amazing dinner! I also visited their bar the night before for some Fuller Fat Old Fashioned drinks and the bartender was so nice to take the time to give us a very detailed explanation of the process with some tastings.

We came here for our anniversary meal and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by a very friendly guy who know who we were which I thought was fantastic and a real personal touch! The knowledge of the staff about the cuts of meat was fantastic, and when I couldn’t pick a wine they brought me 3 to taste!! It’s little gestures like this that make all the difference. The steak and the sides were to die for and I honestly could have sat there all afternoon it’s such a shilled vibe. We will definitely be recommending this restaurant to friends and family and look forward to dining here again.

We went for the Sunday roast and it was excellent. Beautiful room and very good staff. Cocktails were excellent but you’d better like ginger if you get the ginger cocktail! Also had pavlova for dessert and it was excellent.

My sister decided to bring me and my girlfriend here for dinner after our day tour in Edinburgh. Great location and nice selection of wines and food. We started very well with the langoustine and the scallops even if the lobster was sold out, then we continued with 3 different kind of meat. We ordered a rib-eye well done for my pregnant girlfriend, a medium-rare sirloin and a medium rump. Only the rib-eye had the right cooking.l, the other 2 were completely wrong… but we decided to eat it anyway. We had also 3 sides to accompany the meat which were very good (baked sweet potatoes, tomatoes salad and garlic mushrooms). The service was good but not attentive… I asked twice for the second bottle of sparkling water and at the end I found out at home that they charged 3 bottles instead of 2 and also added 12.5% service charge which should be optional at the moment of payment when before I tap my credit card on the pos machine… Anyway the food was good and also my glass of Barolo even if it was a bit pricey (19pounds)

Popped in last week Monday, early afternoon after coming back to Scotland after some 5 years/running errands in the Kingdom of Fife. Due to jet lag, I did not possess the appetite for a steak, however I made short work of a number of starters at the bar, assisted by the lovely K*** working the bar. Moving back soon…

The steak was very delicious! Appetizers are a must! (2024/08/18 by TW person) First of all, the scallop appetizer, the sauce is very refreshing and unexpected. The other one is beef&bacon, which comes with bread, onion jam, and beef. We studied how to eat it. It is delicious whether eaten alone or put into the holes of the bread! Finally, there was the steak. The three of us ordered five-point filet, three-point rib eye, and five-point salmon (from left to right in the picture). You can see that the doneness is very consistent, and the meat is delicate and perfect! Finally, I highly recommend ordering his maple bacon. The bacon from steakhouses in Europe and the United States will really exceed your imagination, crispy but not greasy! Finally, the clerk said that there is a 12.5% service fee and you can choose to remove it. I will definitely keep it without hesitation. Thank you to the clerk for your attentive reception.

The location is outstanding. The food is mediocre at a horrendous price. This is not what one would recommend. We're not going back there, and as I understand from friends, they're not doing so either. Go to Carlton Hill, take in the view, and then eat somewhere nice....

My partner and I visited The Pepperpot with a couple of family members for Sunday lunch. We took advantage of the three-course set lunch (priced at £20.95) which had a good choice of roast meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes included
