The food is real nice bit quite overpriced. You can get the same quality at Miller and Carter. Service takes ages. We actually got aksed to move at the 2 hour mark. We were only there so long because we waited forever for the food! Cheeky Nice decor but it's basically like a posh Wetherspoons. Avoid this entire street. They reel you in but the reality is very different

I cannot say enough about this steakhouse. I was born into the Sublime Society by way of my father's contributions, and for Hawksmoor to be carrying on such honoured traditions, is something special in this day and time. You come for the steaks, of course, but you find yourself being given a level of service that is almost non-existent in today's restaurants. It's this combination that makes it one of, and also the, best steakhouse in the world.

Unfortunately, the food was incredible bland and made me feel sick. It’s a shame because we have been to the location in London and it was fantastic. My steak was so overcooked it was so chewy and tasted like nothing. The cocktails were not well made, and it took 30 minutes for them to serve me a glass of wine. By the time it arrived I was already done eating. The ambiance was nice, but that’s about it. Would not recommend.

It’s not cheap but it is absolutely delicious. We came here for our 3rd visit this year as a table of 5. Our server was great and even when things weren’t quite perfect he was quick to rectify it in the best way possible. The rib eye that I had was genuinely the best steak that I’ve ever had and the chips dipped in the bone marrow gravy were phenomenal! All in all it was expensive (£110 per person for 2 courses, a pre drink and a glass of wine each plus service) but personally I think the cost is justified and wouldn’t hesitate to return for another special occasion/treat meal.

We were excited to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary at Hawksmoor. We were getting great service from our waiter, DT, but we unfortunately overheard a disturbing conversation which appeared to be a manager belittling and talking disrespectfully to him. He was clearly shaken afterward, as anyone would be. Such a disappointment for a restaurant of this caliber. Until that, it was a perfect evening.

Food was very good. Service was atrocious. It took over 30 minutes for our first drink order. Food order took over an additional 30 minutes. Food was delivered to the table and then absolutely no check back. One person in our party had to go up to the serving station to get condiments. No check on steaks or asking about a second drink order. We finally had to ask another waiter - who told us our waiter was on break. Finally placed a second drink order and it was another 20 minutes until we received them. Waited forever for a dessert menu - had to ask a different waiter again. When desserts were dropped off, there was no cutlery given to us. We had to ask yet another waiter for cutlery. She was pretty embarrassed that we had just been left with nothing. No further stop backs at table until we finally flagged down a waiter for the bill. We were there for 3 hours with not one waiter who took responsibility for our table. The service was appalling given how much we spent.

Went here on a Tuesday night for our 30th anniversary dinner. Our party had to wait for 30 minutes for our table even with an 8:30 reservation. We were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" card at our table. That was very sweet of them for the acknowledgement. We had a nice waitress that tried her best. However, she didn't know some of the dinner menu and bar stock. Probably not her fault for the bar stock. She sent the gentleman over who did know, and we proceeded to order. The cocktails were very overpriced and little to no alcohol. So, the group ordered dinner and everything went down hill from there. We ordered different dishes so that we could get a broad assessment of the food. After 45 minutes the dishes came out. The ladies both ordered the filets. Each one a different temperature. Both were served cooked at the wrong temperature. They had to send back both. The potatoes with a chunk of cheese in the center were served cold. The potatoes were also sent back. The second serving of the potatoes were again served cold. The mac and cheese was terrible. My friend got the ribeye and was mostly fat. He knows there is some, but this was too much. The waitress was mortified to come back to the table, so she sent someone else to come over and run interference. The manager should have been sent over, however he was too busy with the adjacent table becsuse their food came out terrible, from what we could hear. The kitchen staff failed miserably. They should be re-trained in the art of food preparation. Their lack of awareness for taste and culinary arts has "left a bad taste in our mouths". You only get one chance to celebrate your 30th wedding anniversary and they did a very poor job of meeting and/or exceeding expectations.

Extraordinary steak unmarred by excessive details, sauces, or other unnecessary things. Just plain delicious with optional sides. Strongly recommend the rib-eye for those of you who enjoy mid-sized portions. Definitely a bit small for the very hubgry, but other, more expensive and large cuts are available.

I made a last minute reservation with Hawksmoor and despite being very busy, they gladly got us a table for four and an amazing dinner! I also visited their bar the night before for some Fuller Fat Old Fashioned drinks and the bartender was so nice to take the time to give us a very detailed explanation of the process with some tastings.

We came here for our anniversary meal and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by a very friendly guy who know who we were which I thought was fantastic and a real personal touch! The knowledge of the staff about the cuts of meat was fantastic, and when I couldn’t pick a wine they brought me 3 to taste!! It’s little gestures like this that make all the difference. The steak and the sides were to die for and I honestly could have sat there all afternoon it’s such a shilled vibe. We will definitely be recommending this restaurant to friends and family and look forward to dining here again.

Really enjoyed lunch on Friday we went for the the 2 course menu well worthwhile. Steak was cooked perfectly and a good portion, desert was amazing. Restaurant was busy and we did have a bit of time to wait the hence 4 stars. However I would recommend second time I’ve been and had a great experience.

My sister decided to bring me and my girlfriend here for dinner after our day tour in Edinburgh. Great location and nice selection of wines and food. We started very well with the langoustine and the scallops even if the lobster was sold out, then we continued with 3 different kind of meat. We ordered a rib-eye well done for my pregnant girlfriend, a medium-rare sirloin and a medium rump. Only the rib-eye had the right cooking.l, the other 2 were completely wrong… but we decided to eat it anyway. We had also 3 sides to accompany the meat which were very good (baked sweet potatoes, tomatoes salad and garlic mushrooms). The service was good but not attentive… I asked twice for the second bottle of sparkling water and at the end I found out at home that they charged 3 bottles instead of 2 and also added 12.5% service charge which should be optional at the moment of payment when before I tap my credit card on the pos machine… Anyway the food was good and also my glass of Barolo even if it was a bit pricey (19pounds)

The steak was very delicious! Appetizers are a must! (2024/08/18 by TW person) First of all, the scallop appetizer, the sauce is very refreshing and unexpected. The other one is beef&bacon, which comes with bread, onion jam, and beef. We studied how to eat it. It is delicious whether eaten alone or put into the holes of the bread! Finally, there was the steak. The three of us ordered five-point filet, three-point rib eye, and five-point salmon (from left to right in the picture). You can see that the doneness is very consistent, and the meat is delicate and perfect! Finally, I highly recommend ordering his maple bacon. The bacon from steakhouses in Europe and the United States will really exceed your imagination, crispy but not greasy! Finally, the clerk said that there is a 12.5% service fee and you can choose to remove it. I will definitely keep it without hesitation. Thank you to the clerk for your attentive reception.

This is a very good restaurant, with attentive and friendly staff, and great food. The service was absolutely amazing. We could notice that our waiter (Mr. Grant) was doing his best to provide a great service, and he did. As starters, we had the scallops and bone marrow. They were delicious. As the steaks were being served, Grant informed us that one of them was beyond the point. He apologized on behalf of the chef. We tried it and confirmed it was a little beyond the point. Another steak was cooked to perfection and served within minutes. The creamy spinach and macaroni cheese were fantastic. The dessert menu was extensive and with many good options. Overall, it was an outstanding dining experience. Thanks for having us!

Me and my girlfriend out here a few weeks ago before attending a concert in Edinburgh. I cannot recommend this place enough, apart from the obvious which is that food was absolutely stunning, the service and vibe was unbelievable. Sarah gave us fantastic insights and was amazingly accommodating to us. Also a massive thank you to Aussie gentleman behind the bar who was fun and interesting, whilst also making fantastic drinks for me and my partner. Will definitely be coming back when back in Edinburgh.

The steak and salad lunch is great at cost for what it is and for under £60 I can't complain when I'm having sides and wine. Would reccomend to anyone and the staff are effortlessly friendly and really made my afternoon nice. Great to talk to with suggestions and reccomendations. Great martinis too

This was my first time to the restaurant, and I was very excited to visit as I was gifted their cook book a few years ago, and has been carefully followed many times, to cook the perfect steak. We got there and ordered 5 x Rum and Ginger beers costing £56, something that had cost us £22 just 10 minutes prior at another bar. Don't get me wrong, they were good, but they don't have a drinks list and prices quickly available, and didn't think they were worth £11.20 each. I understand places like these can get away with a large mark-up's, but these must be in the thousands of %. It was graduation season,so the atmosphere was great, and the servers are very attentive. I had the sirloin steak, with garlic mushrooms and mash. It was good, and I did enjoy it, but it was nothing special. I couldn't taste their infamous Mardons sea salt they talk so highly of in their book. My partner shared a 1kg T-bone with her father, and it was good, but we've actually had a tastier T-Bone from the local butchers, and cooked it ourselves. I don't know what it is, but there is just something that's not quite hitting the spot. I think with the prices you're paying, you're expecting it to be world changing food, but it's just not. £67 for a £24 bottle of wine is a bit mad...If the food and drink was about 30% cheaper, this would be a different review. All in all, it was good, but not great. Personally, it is too expensive, and I do dine out quite a bit. I'm glad I experienced it, but I'm not sure I'd return.

A beautifully ornate building inside this restaurant provides food and service at a high standard. Tucked just off Princes St near and close to the Leith tram stop it is an ideal city centre location. The food is of excellent quality and the menu is varied, we both had steaks that were perfectly cooked and the wine and drinks list has something for everyone. For a Tuesday night it was very busy. Servers were attentive but not intrusive and we eat at our leisure leaving fully satisfied.

Booked for a birthday meal, the food was awful. We ordered steak and the cut we got was full of fat therefore me and my partner did not manage to enjoy our food, as we each did not eat half of our steak. I advised when booking, upon arrival, and to the server that it was my birthday and there were no complimentary drinks/dessert offered at all which for a supposed 4 star restaurant I think is a bit ridiculous, also given I have seen pictures posted from other customers allegedly receiving things like this. On top of that the steak was served plain by itself on a white plate, which in terms of display is absolutely criminal, I think my 10 year old brother would have put a plate of steak together better than this. The peppercorn sauce I ordered with it was incredibly runny. My partner had ordered the beef fries, needless to say, he received plain fries. My friends have ordered fish and on their plate there was literally only one big spoonful of peas and one baby potato sliced in two halves, which I think is ridiculous again. I don’t know what I expected but this was not it at all. I have been to much cheaper restaurants that have treated me far better. Overall this was such a disappointing experience, especially after reading all the good reviews on Google where people said this was supposedly “the best steak I ever ate” etc making me think that some of the reviews on here may be spoofed. This was probably the first and last time I would go there. Their team was in touch via email with my partner and they ridiculously only offered him “a steak and side” when we were going out for a birthday meal as a couple. Yet another fail on their side. We have all left the restaurant still hungry and we ended up having to get food again later that night which is not something that ever happened to me before. I do not usually leave a review on Google at all but this experience was beyond help.

Visited on a Saturday night as a thank you dinner for our Best Man & Maid of Honour , On arrival was blown away by the setting and the overall feel of the restaurant, our server was very friendly but not too overbearing, had heard a lot about the quality of the food and all four of us was really pleased that it lived up to its reputation steaks and lamb chops were of the best quality and cooked to perfection , all the sides tasted great and we were even given a free sharing stater and some chocolates as we were celebrating out wedding two days earlier , overall I’ll agree it’s not the cheapest of dining experiences but well worth the treat.

Really enjoyed the experience here. It was very expensive for what we had and I'm sure you could find excellent steak elsewhere if you're local but this is an easy location and safe bet and I must say the rump steak was really great. I have to give 4 stars instead of 5 though due to the expense of the wine. £18 for 125ml is just forcing you to get a bottle. I think the bottles started around £35 for red? Which isn't completely insane but the price per glass is a bit shameful, and will be the reason I probably won't return.

My partner and I went to Hawksmoor for our anniversary celebration as a lot of friends have praised it for high quality food. We both got the set meal, and upgraded at an additional cost to the tail fillet which we were severely disappointed with. With high expectations, we took our first bite and we were confused whilst trying to keep a straight face. The steak itself was very dry and tough which didn't meet the quality at the price we paid. Aside from the food, the waiters were very friendly and the venue was atmospheric.

We arrived up from the Port of Leith Distillery by Tram. We entered though the hotel and were directed to a table at the back wall. To the right hand side there was a young couple on a budget, then were joined by a regular to our left. We were offered water and the waitress to time to explain to us how the menu worked. We ordered our first bottle of wine and this was brought to us. We ordered our food. The starter arrived and we ordered another bottle of wine. The food was excellent as you can see. We were intrigued by the table in front of us, a group of 8 Japanese. We marvelled at the service they received and the regular sitting to the left of me decided to comment. We were asked to vacate the table at 9.00pm although between chatting and eating were not quite ready to leave. We were granted a further 20 minutes and concluded our meal.

WOW !! What an incredible experience from start to finish. Grant looked after us all evening and was an incredible server. He went above and beyond to make sure our experience was incredible . The food on the whole was amazing and you couldn’t fault one little thing. However, the service truly made this experience for us both and we would 100% return. My best friend had her birthday and he brought over two cocktails for us both to enjoy and celebrate to a fantastic evening. Another gentleman chatted to us towards the end of the meal and he was also very friendly. As a restaurant manager myself, I am extremely impressed with the overall experience of Hawksmoor and couldn’t recommend it any more. Cheers!

One of the best steaks I’ve ever tried. Actually we booked this restaurant to try Sunday roast and didn’t know it is served only for lunch, so we didn’t expect it to be off the menu by the time of our booking. Still didn’t regret our visit, was great. From amazing service to the best steak we’ve ever tried! Highly recommended!

Bad service from the time they seated us. First, the table was between a bar door and an outside door. The person who seated us was rude and would not consider moving us. The poor service continued from there. Food was just ok. Came out slow and not cooked to right temp. Better off going to Gaucho across the street.

Wanted a perfect Sunday lunch while in Edinburgh, so went to the Hawksmoor located inside the Edinburgh Grand Hotel. Started with cocktails and then enjoyed a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings followed by sticky toffee pudding. Staff were attentive and gave us the history of the building, which was once the city post office.

Just had a lovely meal at Hawksmoor. Steaks were cooked to perfection and our starters (crab on toast & belly ribs) were so rich and filling. I’m so sorry that we didn’t get anyone’s names but the Australian barman, the Irish waiter (who gave us some techno recommendations) and the lovely woman who was working the section with him were exceptional. They were so attentive and great conversation. We had a couple of cocktails before our meal and thoroughly enjoyed them, All in all we had great time at Hawksmoor, the staff are the best thing about this place (and that’s saying something as the food is gorgeous)

Visited for a birthday and the Hawksmoor team really made the occasion feel magical. Our server, DT, was incredible and ensured our evening was totally perfect. We took our time to enjoy the delicious food and wine, and did not feel rushed at all. We can’t wait to visit again. Thank you!

Visited Hawksmoor for Sunday Roast, was so looking forward to it following rave reviews from a friend but unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations. The beef was excellent as was the veggies and cauliflower cheese that I ordered separately. However, the roast potatoes were terrible and the Yorkie pud was just okay. At least £7 for a 330ml can of beer was terrible value. The service was okay, waitress came across as a bit rude at first but in the end we decided it was just her way and not her being rude. Unfortunately I won’t be rushing back for Sunday roast.

If you want an amazing dining experience, Hawksmoor is the place to go in Edinburgh. I had one of the best steaks ever. Situated in an old bank, the ambiance was wonderful, the food was top rate, and our server, Stephen, made sure our experience was fantastic. Stephen was very attentive. Highly recommend.

This was the one of the best meals I have had in my life time. This place does everything very well! The wine, the steaks, and the sides, the drinks… everything was superb! The food is ethically and locally sourced. We order three different types of steaks but my favorite was The butternut squash over coals. Soo many flavors! I’m in love with this place! Ask for Lydia, she is very caring, thoughtful and knowledgeable. We we absolutely spoiled. You have to eat here

Everything here is so good! The food is local and ethically sourced. We ordered three different types of steaks and a bunch of sides. The butternut squash was one of the best vegetable dishes I have had in my life. The service was impeccable. With such an impressive menu, it was hard to make a decision. Lydia was incredible, I would gladly come back and ask for her service again.

Nice food but grossly overpriced. Starter scampi was lovely. Veg was boring, steak ok but fatty. And portions not that great. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, disappointing. Somewhere like Miller & Carter offers much better value and food.

My partner and I visited recently for an early dinner around 5.30pm. We experienced a very quiet large room with no atmosphere. There were more staff walking around (mostly in trainers?) than customers. Our table was near to the corner where the staff stood and looked around so it was a little off putting having 2 staff so nearby basically staring. Our meal was lovely although we were surprised to be left with an automatic 10% tip added to our bill. The staff do tell you it’s optional but it’s the awkwardness of asking to have it removed. No affordable glasses of wine although their own beer is apparently very good and would recommend according to my partner.

Went with a couple of friends at their suggestion because I don't really know Thistle street and haven't heard of Dusit before. But I'll definitely be back. Very friendly and helpful staff that gave a warm welcome and the food was very good. They even asked if I wanted the food less spicy which was a bonus for me😂 can't fault it in any way! A definite recommendation for sure!
