We visited here as 2 families with 5 kids in total. All the food was amazing, however it is the service that really had us blown away here. Maggie our host, found us 2 tables and pushed them together and helped us with our order ensuring that the kids were entertained. I have rarely experienced service on this level anywhere Maggie engaged well with all of us ensuring that we felt the warmest of welcomes. We revisited a day later to buy some take away cakes and I was amazed to find that Maggie had rememberd our children's names and was equally as bright, cheerful and helpful. This is a truly fantastic place and it is certainly well worth a visit. Stunning sea views and amazing food, but the place is elevated onto another level by the amazing staff. Thank you for a wonderful experience Maggie, eating out with children is usually quite a stressful experience in itself but you truly made it a pleasure.

27th July, popped into the place to ask when they opened in the morning. Sign outside said breakfasts served. Female informed us 9am for opening. 28th July, 9.10am I visited the place on my own waiting for my friends. Went in and thee female asked me if I was wanting something to eat, I replied yes and she informed me 'it will be a good wee while before you can get anything ' without actually looking at me. I said are you open, female 'yes we are but nothing is switched on'!!!!! I ordered my lot from a fairly benign young man and waited for my friends. I had a roll and fried egg and tea. It was alright but you cant really go wrong with that but it was ok. My friends arrived and took their places and ordered, my dear friend ordered 2 poached eggs with toast. And a separate helping of toast. His breakfast came and the most unusual poached eggs any of us had ever seen were on the plate. Flat, exactly like fried eggs. My friend returned the plate to the counter and asked again for poached eggs. Oh hell. This female horror show arrived and rudely informed my friend, all of us and another party in the place 'they are poached, I poached them myself in the microwave with water' her tone, body language and behaviour was unacceptable on all levels. 'I'll make you them the old fashioned way but it'll be a good ten minutes ' A horror of a person, horror. They were told to forget it and all of us, six people, left. Prior to leaving my friends wife spoke to the horror, more so to explain why her husband had left. The horror, rude, ignorant and abruptly stated 'when you're cooking for 50 people that's how it's done. She was in formed only one person, not 50, had asked for poached eggs. At this the benign adolescent piped up 'that's my mother' slamming the till as my friend paid for her half eaten scrambled eggs which was still on the table. Well that just tells you everything. A despicable individual without any courtesy, manners or social skills to be honest. GO ELSEWHERE. An amazing weekend we had spent prior to that incident. Everywhere we went and everyone we met could not have been more obliging or friendly. Amazing food in The Contented Sole, Oblo, Ebbcars. You have been warned, dont come crying to TripAdvisor after she turns her horror show on you.

It was school holidays, so very busy over the Easter break, but we were shown to a table where we browsed the menu. We thought the food expensive for a café with a crab and prawn cocktail costing £9.50 [dearer than our posh hotel!] We ordered a cappuccino, an Americano and a cheese scone which came to almost £9. Think they may have got the wrong total on that...or maybe not. But what has triggered the two star review was the behaviour of the waitress who berated two elderly ladies who dared to sit down at a small table joined to a bigger table, which would seat about four others. In a very loud voice she told them they couldn't sit there and that they'd have to move. Of course everyone was looking and as we'd finished, we offered them our seats. The waitress then tore into them again, accusing them of pushing us out! So they crept off to two other seats at the side. That kind of behaviour towards paying customers is unforgivable and, however busy, the waitress should be ashamed of her attitude. If we ever return to Eyemouth, the Bantry Café is definitely not on our list.

Eyemouth hasn’t the sort of customers who eat fish and chips in Padstow and it’s views are a very long way behind. It was therefore a shock to discover that there are cheaper main courses at The Ivy. Food was good, portions gargantuan and the waitress was jolly but none of it justified the cost. It’s a caff not a restaurant.

It's worth a trip to Eyemouth just to have the fish and chips here, chips were both well cooked and drained, and delicious fresh fish in a light batter. The fish is landed locally - you might even see the trawler that landed it in the harbour. Menu has recently been extended to include other fish dishes, such as fish cakes. Service very friendly. We called in here for a lunch, and the waitress seemed more interested in what her mates husband was up to, rather than attending to customers, but once this was done and she had finished putting stock away under one of the bench seats, we finally managed to get her attention. The tables by the window had 'Reserved' on them, so we sat at a middle table, but when other customers came in, they asked about a window seat, and the waitress told them 'Its only reserved until I say its not' which I found a bit annoying, as the other 'reserved' table was vacant the whole time we were in.The only saving grace here was the food was really nice, and served quickly once the order was taken.

I happened upon the Bantry quite by chance. We were on route home from the Borders and decided to do a detour to the coast, ending up at Eyemouth. After a wander along the seafront to the harbour, we noticed a chalkboard sign which featured many of my favourite seafood dishes, langoustines, crab, lobster, fish. This was definitely meant to be!So, just to be sure we'd get a table as the place was starting to busy up, we booked a table.Arriving at 1pm, it was just as well we had booked, it was jumping. The three young waitresses were rushed off their feet, but notwithstanding, they were all exceptionally friendly, very professional and are a credit to the business - well-done ladies!I had to sample the prawn and crab cocktail. What a plateful it was. In fact, it could easily have made for a main dish, never mind a starter. And boy was it good. White crab meat, sourced from a local supplier, as were the prawns, and did it show - succulent, tender and sweet. This dish was so fresh it was almost still moving! You just can't beat seafood from a coastal fishing port, from sea to table in minutes.Next course up and my other half opted for the haddock mornay fishcakes with chips and a side salad. Again, here we go with the portion sizes. Two massive golden, crispy-crumbed delightful patties of fish, potato and seasoning. There was a lot of oohing and aahing going on across from me. Mrs M was very impressed with this dish. She said it was full of fish instead of the usual whereby fishcakes are bulked out with the potato - not so at The Bantry. The chips were hand cut, large chunky chips and perfectly fried. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were cooked in dripping - delicious taste, crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Proper chippy chips. My haddock fish tea was a whale - I kid you not, a full fillet of fish, and then parked atop that another half fillet. It was also served with those cracking chips, mushy peas and bread and butter - a proper fish tea.The fish flaked perfectly, and just by looking you could see how fresh it was. It held it's shape well, and the light batter was perfect. I was like the proverbial pig in ****!On entering, I had eyed the meringues - as large as a football, huge they were and had decided one of them would be mine. So I'm sad to report that the starter and mains were so large I was sunk and the meringues were left for some other lucky Sunday seaside punter!I'll be back though, watch this space. If you're heading along the A1 make the detour, you won't be sorry.

Having been a regular visitor to Eyemouth for many years I have often eaten in the bantry but this will be the last. We arrived at 5pm to a half empty Resturant we were given a seat by a draughty outside door, although other tables were empty with reserved tickets on them, the young waitress was pleasant but the service was slow my husband ordered a small fish tea with bread and butter which we never received the fish was over cooked and certainly not of the quality I had come to expect my daughter had a pizza with a side if chips which were served in a white ceramic dish with a large chip in the side, my scampi was good but the chips which it said on the menu came with it did not arrive either at £34 it was not cheap such a disappointment oh and the tables marked reserved remained empty throughout our visit.

While on a stroll around the town on a rare visit we found this restaurant overlooking the seafront area and it seemed busy but we managed to get seated quickly. The place seemed very popular with locals and the staff obviously knew them as well as there was some amusing banter going on while we ate. There is a busy takeaway at the back of the seated restaurant which perhaps explained the speed at which our food arrived. We opted for fish and chips and fish with salad and coleslaw as we find these days we can't eat two portions of chips. The decision was good and we both enjoyed our reasonably priced meals. Elsewhere in the town we noticed you could pay a fiver more for the same plate of food.

We were visiting Eyemouth this week (August 2016) and looking for somewhere to have lunch. I had my very small elderly dog in a carrier over my shoulder. We went to this restaurant and the blonde middle aged waitress was very rude and unkind. We asked if we could sit outside with a dog and reluctantly she said yes. My husband went to our car to buy another ticket so we could stay for a meal. Whilst he was there the horrible woman would not serve me. A notice outside said you had to go inside to order, but when I tried to go inside she said I could not go in - even just poke my head in the door to order food. She insisted I had to comeinside to order, but would not let me go inside to ame an order. While I was there a family of four arrived at the door, and she rudely and curtly sent them away saying there was no room, despite there being a substantial number of tables free inside and outside. I left, disgusted and upset. We went down the road and found a basic pub which welcomed us and dogs and offered lovely lunches (including local fish) and the meals were much cheaper. We got a kindly welcome there and good service. I am totally shocked that in this day and age of customer service being a high priority for businesses, that anyone would get away with this or think it is acceptable. Separately from this, being kind costs nothing. Why not makes someones day better rather than worse if you can? I would advise you NOT to go to this restaurant.

We visited Eyemouth today after a fabulous long weekend in Edinburgh. I must say how disgusted I was with the attitude of the lady serving within this so called restaurant. As we have never been to this establishment before we did not realise that buying coffees, ice creams and drinks at the first counter you approach meant you would be asked to leave the tables at the back. The lady serving at the counter in the back was extremely rude to us and when we explained we had not understood the 'rules' she flatly asked us to leave. There were 7 of us and we would have happily stayed for lunch and more drinks had the service been even slightly more acceptable. She did say as were walking out 'the customer is always right' which I was a bit confused by. I honestly think it is the worst attitude I have experienced in a long time. We will definitely not be returning and not will anyone we mention this to. Anyway we continued to Berwick and spent our money where we were made to feel welcome!

This was our second visit to The Bantry. After our first visit some months ago, we decided it was worth diverting off the A1 to visit again. Both times we went to the restaurant proper, at the back of the High St takeaway, probably best entered by the door off the lane to the sea at the side. There is a sign politely requesting you to wait to be seated, but we were directed to a table almost immediately by the very pleasant waitress. When she came to take our order, we both ordered fish and chips and a black coffee with cold milk. She said that she would put it through as two fish teas, as that would be cheaper than paying separately, and it also included bread and butter. She didn't need to do that. Our coffee was served almost immediately, good, hot and strong, and the fish and chips followed very quickly, having been cooked to order. Almost perfect crispy battered fish, excellent chips and tasty mushy peas, and lot of each.We will certainly make the detour again.

My mother and I visited The Bantry for a coffee and a cake this afternoon. We walked in and went to the counter and asked for two coffees which were replied quite rudely by the lady running the restaurant as we had not waited to be seated and told to take a seat at a table chosen by the waitress. Following this we were given our coffees and not offered a menu etc and the restaurant was not busy for this to be justified. During our visit we witnessed two other parties being told to sit at a set table and we were asked what they need to do to get served and were left waiting even though there was more than enough staff. The blonde middle-aged waitress was unbelievably rude to ourselves and other people coming to enjoy the view. The coffee was lovely and the view of the seafront was delightful. It is such a shame that the service was so rude and completely lets down what could have been lovely experience. I doubt I will be back.

The waitress service at this cafe was appalling it was similar to Basil Faulty at Faulty towers. We asked politely for two black filter coffee and were asked abruptly if we had a table, to which we answered we had not. The middle aged waitress abruptly stated that there was a sign at the door saying that customers were to wait at the door to be seated and before we then had chance to return back to the waiting sign she ordered that we could sit at one of the empty 2 seater tables. The Bantry looked like a nice spot for coffee and a cake. We had our dog with us and were happy to sit outside the restaurant at the tables facing the sea. However to sit outside you need to go to the Mackays takeaway next door, but part of the same restaurant we were told.Duly went to the takeaway which I am sure offered very good fish and chips - but average coffee and tea in cardboard/ plastic cups were not really what we wanted...along with very dour service. We drank half the drinks and left. To make life worse - we discovered that there was a separate outside area where we could have enjoyed the coffee and cakes from the Bantry..yet nobody bothered to tell us. We stayed at the Bantry Guest House on a B&B basis and ate breakfast in the cafe below. Food in the cafe was well presented and served with a smile. The room above was more than adequate with a large spacious and comfortable bed. A separate bathroom with a shower and all the usual facilities completed the room. Our room overlooked the bay and harbour entrance and so it was good to see the shipping movement from ones bed in the morning. There was always something to see. The room had a dormer style window and also had a sloping ceiling which did not entirely suit my 1 m 95 cm frame but is something I am used to and can happily put up with, with a comfortable bed and it was certainly that. All in all we were very pleased with our stay here and if coming back to Eyemouth would certainly choose to stay here again.

Honestly we walked by the Bantry as I didnt think it was for me. On asking a couple where was good to eat that was open they recommended the Bantry, as a last resort we headed in we were sat at a table at the back and given 2 menus after scouring I settled on battered mushrooms for a starter and a chicken burger as a main, my partner had a prawn cocktail to start and crab sandwich for main meal. When the food arrived we were pleasantly surprised it was outstanding, prawn cocktail was the best by far. We were served by Maggie who was funny and made us feel extremely welcome. Absoloutley disgusting. I've the names of both. To say I'm appalled is an understatement. I came in to shop not witness sex acts. In uniform at the workplace! I'll be informing my friends and family. If this is how you allow your staff to behave! Disgusting if my daughter had been with me and saw that I'd have rang the polis straight away!

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

Lovely village pub, great atmosphere, huge plates of food, friendly staff and great to have a friendly chat. Have plenty of events to enjoy, it's the hub of the village.

I first picked up brownies at the Edinburgh Farmers market and myself and my husband were hooked- they are the best we've ever tasted and all our family and friends agree - fabulous - the salted caramel is our favourite- Robert is always a joy to speak to

Very disappointed, arrived for lunch bringing my brother and wife as they are on holiday, had to wait 10 minutes to be seated although there was an empty table where we were standing, we were given menu's then totally ignored for the next quarter of an hour, a young waitress saw us and I asked could we place an order (we were going to have a 3 course lunch) she said yes and then went over and chatted with another waiter, after a further 5 minutes we decided to leave and go into kelso, we went to a place in kelso and were treated correctly and served immediately.
