This is the first review since last year of the Rabbit restaurant. Booked for a Sunday lunch. The restaurant was fairly busy in the top half but we asked to sit in the lower southern facing part of the room with superb views of the golf course & the Clyde. 3 of us chose the Roast Rump of Longhorn Beef, comprising of Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, greens & carrots together with gravy & horseradish. The food was just warm, the Yorkshires’ were in part burnt, and the roast potatoes were hard. With hindsight we should have sent it back to the kitchen, but it had taken quite a while to appear once the ordered was placed. Clearly it had been left ready for collection by the servers but probably delayed in appearing? There must be a method to keep dishes hot prior to delivery? Just why it was overcooked remains unexplained. One of us had the chicken dish which was fine, as were the desserts. The serving staff were pleasant & attentive. Overall disappointing due to lack of attention & coordination in the kitchen.

First time ,I expected better service, a restaurant in a hotel of this size needs more cleanliness and attention, the food was reasonable, I ordered a cappuccino and it was served to me without milk or cream, thanks only to the Filipino workers, they were very cooperative

I go for a burrata starter, which is low fuss and high quality: two wobbling Puglian blobs drizzled in bright green olive oil, basil flavour oozing over them, semicircles of sweet peach and yellow heritage tomatoes prodding but not quite breaking their stretchy skin. My friend’s petite pile of fat Shetland mussels conceals a refreshing bite with its cider and jalapeño sauce, subtly taking the edge off today’s winter chill.

The menu sounds interesting, but a bit too expensive for what you get.

Nice setting, pleasant staff, not overly attentive. Food was bland, over cooked & dry. 100% overpriced and doesn't live up to what it's attempting to achieve.

Unbelievably disappointed, could be good with a different calibre of chef and restaurant manager, such a lovely setting. Restaurant manager obviously unaware of menu and ingredients, also the attitude of a member of staff. Some of our party had the watercress soup with an egg which was congealed in the middle, not acceptable there were other issues our party experienced plenty of empty seats on a Saturday night which tells you something, we will certainly never return as not worth the money to be faced with a bad experience.

Really nice Sunday lunch. The place went from us being the only customers to nearly full in about 40 min . Not as expensive as you'd think

Refurbishment has certainly improved the ambience. Waiting staff really lovely. Menu is quite limited. Very disappointed that the specials amounted to one dish and didn't include a 'catch of the day' as the menu suggests. Starters all really nice although the burrata was served without the promised peach. On the mains - the sweet potato & halloumi burger which was on the menu & ordered by one of the party has apparently been removed & replaced by the option of an uninspiring vegetable burger. Two of the party ordered pork belly, one perfect but one of them had to be returned to kitchen as it was so tough - (the meat not the crackling) and sent back by someone who has never returned anything, anywhere to a kitchen,,,ever! When the replacement pork belly was served, it was succulently perfect, but the server reported that the chef had said that he agreed that the outside of the original had been a bit tough but it was perfect inside. Mmmmm.....we prefer not to have to search for the edible bits of our meal. The "leeks" served with the cod, were a little bit of green mush under the cod, but in fairness the cod was perfectly cooked. The 2nd bottle of the 'same' wine had a different vineyard label on it. Given the "masterchef" success of 2 of the chefs & the fact that we had read a good review in the press recently, we definitely expected better. The only reason my grade is average & not poor, is that it is not overpriced. Would prefer to pay a little more for better experience. Won't be rushing back.

5 of us enjoyed a fantastic meal with drinks at The Rabbit. Within a beautiful building overlooking Troon golf course and beach, the food more than matched the superb scenery. Each dish was tasty and presented well. Drinks were from an extensive menu. Prices were reasonable for the overall standard.

The Sunday lunch ticks all boxes. But as is the rest of the menu. Staying at this hotel for 11 days and every meal has been top notch. Very nice sea views add to the experience.

Easy to find, lovely setting, beautiful building, and just as good inside, the decor is really well done. Staff were friendly and attentive, without being too attentive. And most important of all, the food was amazing, we all had different meals, and everything we had was delish, cooked perfectly, and good portion sizes.

Excellent food. Although festive menu was a bit limited! Suzan gave us exemplary service. There were some diners trying to enter in bathrobes so we were pleased that a dress code prevailed and they ate elsewhere!! Good standards are hard to find!

We had a fantastic evening starting with drinks in the Seal bar service was friendly and the drink selection was good especially non alcaholic choices for the driver We then went to the Rabbit for the Masterchef menu the waitress was lovely so enthusiastic about the chefs success, the food was as good as on TV and Sagar came out and chatted with the diners All and all a great evening very chilled but very memorable we hope they will feature some more Masterchef menus in the New Year and we will look forward to returning

Lovely decor. And food was good. However, we were given 2 menus, the a la cart and the festive set menu - 2 courses £35, 3 courses £39 (less choice than a la cart). All the options on the set menu are on the a la cart menu but the set menu is ironically so much more expensive, roughly £8-10. Unfortunately we were billed as set menu.

Was nearby and looking for a good late night meal. Stopped in and had some fish and chips along with a burger. Burger was unique and delicious. I’m from America, so I’m used to the patty being on the bottom, but they put it on the top of the sandwich. Was nice, keeps bottom bun from getting soggy. The fish and chips were top notch. I added some salt and vinegar and they were perfect. I’d highly recommend this place. Come out and support your local restaurant!

I opted for the ‘mini’ fish supper at a brilliant price of just three pounds. It was really delicious and the portion was so big. The young lad who served me was really friendly and we had a bit of banter. Thoroughly recommend this place and will be back next time I’m in Ayr.
