Friendly staff and good fish and chips. As good as Superfish

Really delicious fish and chips. The fish batter was crisp and the fish was flaky and very fresh. Lovely chips too.

We come here once a year on our annual trip to this area, and have always felt it is the best fish and chips we've had. This time, however, was really disappointing. I don't know if the management/chef has changed, but the grilled fish was reported very bland, when in previous years, it had been a perfectly cooked delight, the two fried fish and chips were reported good, but not great, but the real disaster was the vegan burger- now, I know this a fish restaurant, but, people obviously go here with people who are vegetarian- there was one single vegie option, which was this burger, so I took it and it was awful; the weirdest patties I have ever tasted, plus a bun toasted so rock hard it was inedible. The chips and onion ring were good though. It's a shame, in previous years there have been several veggie options, including a really good curry and halloumi, etc. Overall , the whole menu appears to have gone downhill and at close to £20 for fish and chips, you'd expect better.

It's just as good as always. I withheld one star for service because they ran out of chips on Tuesday. Only meant a ten minutes delay, though.

I've never been disappointed with the food I have ordered from here and I've been coming here since I was a child way back in the 60's and 70s to the present day. These days I can bearly manage a pensioners meal ( fish bite and chips) as they are so big, I usually have a pot of coffee too....keep up the good work

What a gem this place is. I was staying at the Premier Inn for work and originally planned to eat in the hotel. But their restaurant was closed so I came here, and I'm so glad I did! Next time I stay at the Premier Inn I'm definitely eating here again! I love the fact that it's properly ON the beach. It's rustic and authentic and the food was delicious. Best atmosphere and best food in Southend!

Don't even think about NOT going to Suphas. One of the best street food restaurants I've been to. Staff are delightful and welcoming, the food is superb. Their salt and pepper squid I could eat every day, so moreish. It can get busy, but that's a good thing. If you get a window seat, the view over the harbour and yachts is lovely especially as the sun sets. You can see all the kitchen and staff cooking such a variety of beautiful food.... the aromas filtering out into the restaurant really get your taste buds going. I really cannot wait to go back.

First time visiting, had the fish and unlimited chips deal. Staff friendly, food nice although had to re request ketchup. Drinks a little pricey but guess that's normal as in a lovely location. My gripe is they add a £1 discretionary charge for charity to the bill. Perhaps they should reassess this as people tend to donate to charities of their choice and this has never happened to me before in a restaurant. Had my daughter with me so bit my tongue and paid. Felt the tatic of adding this to the bill without even asking is wrong, especially as the CEO/top dogs in many charities are on 6 figure salaries. This is why I research when I donate for a good cause.

The best fish and chips in Scarborough. Visited twice during a 3 night break we enjoyed it that much! My son now loves scraps but we can't get them at home.

Early booking for my wife, 4 month old and I after strong recommendations. Lovely spot, real nice inside. Maitre D was fabulous all evening - steering my wife away from “messy” dishes that wouldn’t be ideal with a 4 month old in her hands!! Food was fab, the best bit if bass I’ve ever eaten. Service could be a little sharper - I had to ask for more drinks and chase my fries that arrived halfway through the meal. That aside, great evening. Call ahead to book for sure.

A great little tapas restaurant. Small menu but perfectly executed. Unlike some tapas places they let you order a few dishes at a time. Everything we had was delicious. Service was lovely. Recommended.

Booked this restaurant for my partners birthday. We had visited on another occasion and were very impressed. On this occasion the food was, once again, excellent and we were thoroughly enjoying our experience until a young waiter approached us and said " I'm going to need your table back in a minute". Totally ruined our evening, very rude and disappointing.

You've tried the rest, so why not try one of the best!👍and for a bit of magic just add a dollop of the best ever mayonnaise, then your Friday is complete! Can't wait for next week. Have now frequented Mr Chips since lockdown and can say that food is as good as ever! Especially good this week, could have eaten my cod and chips twice!! Excellent! Top shop.

The staff were great, and the food wasn't as fantastic as I hoped

Phoned in with a large order just before lunch closing time and they were very accommodating. Everything was ready when we arrived and both members of staff we super friendly, great fish and chips too! Big portions and good value, definitely recommend!
