Wonderful food, really good value, really friendly and helpful staff, with quick service.

I would definitely recommend asking the total price of food before ordering, I asked my partner to get 2 large cod 1 portion of chips and Smokey sausage and chips £31,50, I thought he was joking until he showed me the receipt, that will definitely be the last time we get fish and chips next time it will be a Chinese which will last for 2 days.

We didn't have food, but the menu looked excellent.

Couldn't fault anything about Harbour View. Been lots of times and no faults. Best fish,chips,staff and cleanliness. If you don't want batter on fish, they do fish in rice flour which is very tasty. Nothing is a problem for Harbour View.

The takeaway was over priced and a jumbo sausage was undercooked.

Some reviews and links suggest that they can serve you with a gluten-free fish and chips. This is NOT the case. I made a special journey based on reviews said I was gluten free to the first server I met who seated me and then another came to tell me that I couldn’t eat fish and chips gluten-free.. I didn’t check other options because I came for fish and chips, which I found across the way At the Kings Arms!

Wow . A superb place . We stopped here by chance on the way to Newcastle. We chose to eat in. Service was brisk, friendly and efficient . The staff were lovely . My haddock was absolutely enormous !!!! It is a long time since I have eaten fish as fresh and well cooked as this one. My husband's scampi was also very nice . I now understand why other diners requested doggy bags !! Great value for money but the option of a a smaller portion might be a good idea . Will return.

Best fish and chip shop in the north east and surely it’s got to be up there with the best in the country! You will not be disappointed the fish quality is top class and chips are very tasty! The size of the fish are huge and that’s just the small the large is literally like a whale I’m surprised people can finish that on their own with the chips! We live 3 miles away from the chip shop and have other chip shops closer on the beach but I drive there as like I said it’s the best fish shop around and worth the drive the fish is literally cooked fresh when u walk in the door as they ask which type of fish u like and is cooked to order unlike other fish shops! The ladies who work there are always friendly and a credit to the business!

A favourite regular haunt, always a quick and speedy service. The front of house women on the takeaway side really know what they are doing. Amazing to see A buisness where everyone employed pulls there weight to allow this restraunt and takeaway to thrive is magnificent and so is the food! Brilliant pricing dining in always plays the anthems. Size of a regular fish is longer than my forearm but smaller specials in place if you don't have that much of an appetite well always go back its utterly amazing. This review may suggest I work here i don't I just love it🤣.

Portions absolutely massive fish is huge unfortunately we got a takeaway drove 2 minutes along the road opening the box at our destination the fish and chips were like mush the cod wasn't flakey like other chip shops we have tried. not sure where they get fish from but i would say definitely not local. Would be better if fish and chips were sold separately but realise this would affect the cost.

Hands down the best in the country

Haddock, chips, mushy peas and batter with a cup of tea. Absolutely delicious. Excellent service from the moment we stepped through the door. Highly recommend this place

This is a proper fish and chips. Good mushy peas. Massive and well cooked cod moist crispy batter just right. Overall though a good meal. Came back a month later and sat in restaurant. Still the best and service caring and friendly. Chips great and fish (standard cod) big and superb very crisp thin batter. Top class sit in if you can it's an experience. For smaller eaters (I only could eat half) they have something called cod bite

Had takeaway. The staff were very patient and helpful as it was our first (certainly won’t be out last) visit. Fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was light and not greasy. Chips are how chip shop chips should be. Thank you

I've never been disappointed with the food I have ordered from here and I've been coming here since I was a child way back in the 60's and 70s to the present day. These days I can bearly manage a pensioners meal ( fish bite and chips) as they are so big, I usually have a pot of coffee too....keep up the good work

The very very best large cod I have ever had no chips it was so large. I am back again friday & saturday. The lady who served me was a pleasure to talk with.

Recommended as famous local fish and chips. Great huge piece of well cooked cod in delicious light batter. Well cooked fat chips delicious! Sat on outside tables looks ok inside too or takeaway. Convenient car park adjacent

We had walked along the seafront from South Beach, Blyth with our dogs, had a drink in the Kings Arms, Seaton and were about to head back along the coastal path when we noticed lots of people going in to the Harbour View fish n chip shop and coming out with bags/boxes of food. We decided to join the queue. SO glad that we did. The larger cod was dipped in batter & fried to order. They had to break it to fit in the box. We found a lovely place to sit by the estuary to enjoy our feast...it really was delicious. The fish cooked to perfection and the best we have had in a very long time. The chips were also first class. The whole experience was a delight. The cooks were well organised, the two serving staff were very friendly & efficient, the food was delicious and the price was affordable. Great value for money. We'll definitely be going back....soon!

Beautifully decorated restaurant. Bringing the harbour inside with photos and nautical prints everywhere. Staff are friendly and service is great. Prices are more than reasonable. Portions are enormous! Prepare yourself! The very best fish and chips in the area. Not so much large cod as whale and chips!

Lovely fish but id expect so for £11.40

Clearly today they refried chips from yesterday, hard and chewy, bordering on inedible, and tasteless. They were just plain nasty. This is a regular occurrence if you go when shop just opened. They think we won’t notice. The size of a large carton of curry sauce is laughable! Prices are getting ridiculous. The owner has a cheek to go on TV bleating about less people buying fish and chips, when there are queues out the door most weekends and Bank holidays.

Always good quality food here, fish is delicious, fresh and while not the cheapest, worth the price for the quality.

Called in here as people were queueing out of the door, thought it must be good, and it was. Spotlessly clean, helpful, friendly staff and the food was delicious. I ordered two 'small' haddock and chips. The fish was so big that it had to be broken to fit in the box! It tasted even better than it looked (if that's possible)

Joined the queue of people waiting to enter the restaurant at 4.15pm, and can now see why it was so busy. Got one of the last tables and very friendly staff quick to assist. Recommended the regular sized cod and saw others trying to tackle the large. Food arrived and fish was huge. Food was superb, great crunchy chips, succulent fish and crisp batter. Struggled to finish and was glad I didn’t go for the large. Others had haddock and that was similarly well cooked. If you are in the area would definitely recommend. Excellent friendly service, clean and well decorated surroundings and superb food. Great value for money.

Absolutely love this place,for me the best in the North East. I live in the South now but every time I’m home I have to visit. The staff on the counter are brilliant always happy to have a chat with me even when rushed off their feet.

Still one of the best fish and chips places that I have come across on my travels and always make sure to stop here. Staff are always really friendly, and very flexible on making a custom order since I have the one chance to eat all of my favorites. Only negative is that hopefully one day they will change the music in the restaurant. Been hearing the same songs each time I have visited over the last 8 years.

Great Fish and Chips, well organised quick service on a busy day

The 4 of us visited the restaurant during our holiday. We were greeted by very friendly staff who made us all feel very welcome. We all found the food very tasty indeed, the regular sized fish was enormous! the batter was thin and light, the chips were tasty as was everything else. I would highly recommend this place. 10 out of 10 from me.

Always a queue here but one taste of the food and you know why! Best fish and chip shop in the area. You pay a little more for it but it's really good quality food and decent portions. We visit every time we're local.

Had large haddock and chips today. OMG, the fish was huge, it filled the box. Fish was well cooked, chips were perfect and fluffy, staff chatted and were very pleasant. Takeaway service was quick considering queue was huge. I will defo be back as I'm a fish n chip nerd 👍

Best fish and chips in the country.

Genuinely 1 of THE best chippy's I've ever had the fortune to eat in. Plus, it IS incredible value for money. I bet only a very few people can manage a large fish and chips. Think it even beat the chap from Man v Food!!

Much better since our last visit, great service, great food. My wife had cod bite and chips, including mushy peas, curry sauce or gravy. I had haggis and chips. I added a cup of coffee which in my case was extra. We will be back. 👍

UPDATE.... Still One Star. Still overrated but tried again on the basis of a friend saying it was unbelievable. It isn't. It's still disgusting and a total rip off. ......................... Totally overrated im not sure why it has a good reputation. I've been several times as we live local and have to say it just isn't worth the hype or ridiculous price. Batter is really weird. It must be gluten free? The fish batter is very thick and chewy every time we've tried, and the chips are usually anemic and undercooked. The service in the take away is abrupt and unfriendly as well every time you visit. Not welcoming at all amd if you ask them a question which makes them deviate from the routine, their eyes roll around like marbles.

Best fish n chips in a very long time. The restaurant doesn't open every night, but no matter - free parking across the water with a sea view made for a very special evening!!

Came here with the family for my Gran’s 90th, there was 7 of us sat on the big table round corner. Staff were great & talked us through the size of fish & was so pleased I got the pensioners as the big ones were like whales. My brother & nephew got the big ones & never seen anything like them. They were amazing & will definitely be back.

Massive portions, not the cheapest but tasty

Always freshly cooked food and it's mahoosive.Great staff too.

Surroundings are modern and a bit characterless. Service was 5 star and always worth a good cash tip. Regular haddock was massive. Batter was flat and not crispy enough. Fish was hot and very white, but a bit wet. The chips were pale and not very crispy, but hot and fluffy. The curry sauce was basic chip shop curry sauce. I prefer a more Indian/Goan type curry sauce.

Very busy but always worth waiting

Normally when I come up to see family we go here and get take away fish and chips. Very tasty. A little expensive (but hey, most places are these days) and quite often we’ve found a queue out the door since it’s so popular. That said it’s worth the wait, but be prepared for the wait. The car park is also a little small, but there are other places to park within a 5 minute walk-ish which isn’t so bad. Good portions and tasty food.

Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Aneamic looking damp chips, overcooked cod with soggy batter. Ended up going in the bin. Had obviously been cooked and left out for a while. Won’t be back for more.

Batter on cod was soggy. From rectangular shape i think it may have been fried ready battered from frozen. Either way very disappointing. The chips were OK and the mushy peas were a bit below par. I won't be going there again.
