Says its open on Sunday but its not went with order for family only to be disappointed

Just had fish and chips and I have to say its the worst we've ever had. The fish had been cooked for so long it had all dried up and stuck to the batter. You couldn't even scrape it away from the batter. Never again.........

Its no longer called Maylias (now called Morpeth Fish and Chips) and is much improved. Chips a bit pasty looking for my liking but everything else is lovely.

I hadn't tryed Maylias for a few years until I had discovered it was under new management, opted for margarita and a portion of chips for the missus, I opted for chicken kebab, chips and garlic sauce, I wish I hadn't bothered, the chips were bairly cooked and the chicken kebab looked as if a roast chicken had been ripped apart and marinated in some kind of spicy sauce, it looked revolting, it still had a load of grisly fat and chicken skin, hardly any meat at all, I would highly advise to avoid this food establishment,mmost certainly the worst chippy in Morpeth!!!!!!! 👎 👎 👎 👎 👎

Lived in Morpeth 15 years. Am 53 , ate fish and chips from all over and never tasted better ! This place is so nice , only discovered during lock down via just eats. Had them 3 times each time perfect. Unreal quality 💯 recommend these guys 🥂🇬🇧👌🏼

We go to Carlo's once a week on average for a fish supper or jumbo sausage and they are very good quality, not greasy, service is amazing and if you ring up and order then they are ready for you.

Stale dry overcooked chips that tasted like old potatoes. Powdery potato inside chip casing and dry overcooked fish. Avoid this place at all costs! Can only think the better reviews are historical or from a fluke visit sitting in.

Not much to say about a very good meal of fish and chips except that both the fish and the chips were very good....... friendly staff too.

Staying in Alnwick for a long weekend and having looked up this eatery was looking forward to a Fish and chip supper. We were so disappointed with the quality of the food, the batter was chewy and hard and the chips were very greasy. We were in a cottage only 5min in the car so we knew they should be fine with the short journey.

I have been a regular user of Carlo’s since it opened in Morpeth a few years ago and really feel that I need to write a review. It’s excellent. Fish is cooked to order, the chips are perfect, the size of the fish is huge,the staff are lovely and helpful and the place is spotlessly clean. It is also excellent value and almost half the price ( but twice the quality and quantity ) of fish and chips in the supposed fish and chip centre of Whitby where I’ve just spent the weekend. I would say without any hesitation that these are the best fish and chips on the north east of England. There is also a sit in area where you can have a meal cooked and order with a nice pot of tea.

Cod and chips - perfect every time. Would recommend to eat from this takeaway. The best fish and chips in and around Morpeth.

First time here and it was fantastic. Just popped in at lunchtime and had fish bites and chips. Freshly cooked, just how it should be. Fish was excellent and the chips were amazing. Will definitely be back!

Lovely food we had 2x haddock and 2 cod No problems. the garlic mayo was good and pretty reasonably priced A+++

we were looking forward to our fish and chips from this highly rated chippy. although the portions were large they were greasy and the batter was a bit moist. in fact my wife left most of the batter and just ate the fish. so although they were good value they were disapointing.

Lovly staff and amazing fish and chips only place get it to go in morpeth for fish and chips.its in morpeth market place and is open till 9pm most nights and you can sit inn.

We had a fantastic meal (take-away). Chips were superb, fish was fresh and tasted of the sea-side. Highly recommended.

Cheap and I wouldn't say cheerful

We were self catering but decided to treat ourselves to some fish and chips. They were very good indeed and all packed in cardboard boxes so a big plus for the planet as well as our appetites. Keep up the good work.

I visited last week on Saturday was welcomed to Carlo’s by a lovely young man who was very helpful and polite. I ordered cod and chips, the fish was succulent and the batter was crispy, the chips were to die for. The service was brilliant and the staff made my experience very enjoyable, I will definitely be returning.

Had a wonderful meal there yesterday with the family but when one of our younger diners went to buy another soft drink he stood at the counter for 5 minutes getting totally ignored by the guy working there. when my elderly mother asked he he could serve my nephew he replied " I'll serve him when I want to" so I responded with " you could've acknowledged my nephew and said I'll be 2 minutes and not just persistently walk back and forth ignoring him" I then overheard him telling the girl that he was working with that we were moaning about him. There was no apology and his attitude was terrible I've worked as a waitress before do I know how to treat people and he was out of order the way he spoke to my elderly mother. we used to love eating here and would tell our friends and family to go here whilst visiting but unfortunately we won't ever return.

I took my mother and father here today we were going to eat in Wetherspoons and I’m so please we left and came in here the fish and chips were unreal best I’ve had for years and il no longer be going to the coast for them il be coming here was well worth the half an hours drive

We were staying in Alnwick so made our usual visit to Carlo's. We had not visited for about two years and delighted to say that everything was still first class. We were there on a Friday early evening and they were very busy. Our meal was in the restaurant and we had the meal deal. I am so glad that we did as it was just about manageable.The place was immaculate, our fish and chips were fresh and well cooked, tea and coffee included was really good. The staff were really friendly and very quick with service and there was a constant queue of customers who were soon served. Absolutely delicious meal.

It was the most friendly and clean.with good atmosphere we had garlic mushrooms they wete fantastic .we then had scampie and chips they were superb it was good value for money and there was ample parking

This place offers a good 'seniors' deal of fish and chips with a pot of tea. Service was friendly and speedy. The 'senior' portions are quite modest but more than adequate. The fish was lovely with delicious batter; the chips were not remotely crisp but flabby but not unpleasant. The fish was freshly cooked and piping hot: very good

So, the chef here Andrew recommended a lightly battered cod. It was huge, delicious and thee best fish I have ever eaten. The batter was just gorgeous and the chips were really excellent very tasty and really well cooked.

This is fish and chip shop is clearly popular with locals, and for good reason. Food is available as take-away or eat-in, in their small 'chippy' seated area. Service was friendly and speedy

Very hitty missy, sometimes very tasty, sometimes not. Prices are very reasonable place is a bit dated. Staff are friendly enough.

Took a break in our long journey north on A1.

We ordered take away fish and chips rather than eating in the restaurant. We ordered home delivery and when it arrived were very impressed by the size of the portions, huge portion of cod, mushy peas and thankfully we had chose to share a large chips. All very tasty and we would definitely eat here again.

I popped into maylias whilst I was shopping and was exstatic with the fish bites, and also the free chips on the side. The fish bites were enormous and extremely tasty. The batter was light and crispy and the cod flaked gently. It was a real treat and the staff were very generous to give me the chips on the side for free. I have to say well worth it! 😆

I was a little disappointed after visiting this local chippy (after my usual choice was closed) to find that the reviews I'd heard from others didn't live up to expectations. Chips were heavy on the grease and curry was a little lumpy. Certainly not the worst I've ever had...but there is a much more superior chip shop just up the road.

My wife and I like to cook and eat at home but occasionally we have a take away so it was down to Carlos cod and chips mushy peas. Two large pieces of fish well cooked chips nice mushy peas great value for money very pleasant staff quick service. Definitely will use again.

The menu is extensive...the haggis is great. If you want your items only lightly battered then just ask...it ensures yours is cooked fresh ! Prices are average...the fish bites are big ! Super staff too...

This chipshop offers both take-out and an eat-in service. It is located just away from the town centre but in a good location (if you know it is there). It is clearly popular. Fish was delicious and cooked to order - so a bit of a wait. Portions were generous - even the small chips was very large. Chips were disappointing though. They were not at all crisp. It seemed they'd been held for too long - which was a real shame. Going by other reviews I wonder if this is unusual. Staff were friendly and the take-out packaging very unusual but effective

Normally the chips are very nice but the last couple of times I have had to wait for chips to be cooked and both times they have been nearly raw! Tonight's were not really edible and they went in the bin

Got a takeaway last Sunday just before they were about to close. The girl who served us was friendly and professional. We got two cod and chips and omg was delicious...proper fish and chips. Freshly cooked and piping hot.it wasn't greasy and was a huge portion of food. It was my first visit and i will definitely be back. Great location too as right next to the park ! Good propa grub

Visited the Alnwick shop on Thursday - great swift service and good value for money. Staff really friendly and loved the box packaging for your takeout meal. Both the fish and the chips ordered were delicious - lovely crisp batter, soft fresh white fish and just enough chunky chips per portion!! Fabulous!!

We opted to get takeaway from Carlo’s Fish and Chips and thus I can’t pass comment on what the experience would have been like had we dined inside. The food is well packaged so that during the drive it lost little to no heat. The food is divine with chips that retained their heat and structure and fish with a crispy batter and a flaky inside that left no doubt that it had been cooked by professionals. Having had many a disappointing fish supper at other takeaways, this restaurant has proven itself as an establishment that can deliver a delicious meal at a good price. I will definitely be returning.

Looking for somewhere to eat after golf and walked past Carlo's, it looked and smelled great, so in we went. Oh my, it was delicious, we opted for the fish tea and sat in, which was slightly more expensive but you get your pot of tea, bread and butter and a choice of sauces and sides, I opted for the mushy peas, excellent. Took me a while to finish it, there was plenty of it, but was quality fare so I ate the lot, great chips too. Loved it. Recommended.

we stopped off here after a day away to the coast and the fish and chips were just the thing. Huge portion of fish and the chips were lovely. The staff working that night were very helpful as well, giving us some info when they seen we were visitors to the area. Parking just further down the street. Will certainly be back

Called in tonight, young lady took order for 2 fish and chips, waited and waited, other people who came in behind me getting served FISH AND CHIPS , I asked the same young lady why where others being served before me? she asked what did I order!!!!! and happily let the young lad working there take the responsibility for the mishap

Went here for the first time today and to be honest I cannot fault the food the food was fantastic I had the double cheese burger and chips and really can't fault it it was clean but the reason I give it 3 stars is because there was no customer service the 2 young girls that served me where as thick as a back of hammers I felt like I actually earned my food after dealing with them but at the cost of my brain cells

Just back from a very unpleasant experience at Carlos. Placed my order and was told a 10 minute wait for mushy peas. 20 minutes later & after having spoken to 3 members of staff no sign of my order yet everyone else being served. It was clear they had forgotten. No apology. All in all a very very poor service. Staff get 0/10 from me. I'd certainly think twice about going again.Now a home making a healthier & cheaper option for tea.

Made our first trip to Carlo's in a year or so recently. It was every bit as good as I had remembered. I had a beautiful, tasty haddock, with plenty of good, crisp chips and a tangy tartare sauce. My wife had cod and chips - very tasty and chunky, she said. The cod was the size of a giant's mitten. Heaven only knows how large the special cod would have been.

Situated next to Wetherspoons in Morpeth, this is a great fish n chips shop. The Cod was large and tasty, the batter was crispy and the chips were chunky with good consistency. P.s the curry sauce was just the right spice.

We usually call in here as I am vegetarian and they fry in vegetable oil so I can have some of the food! On the last occasion, however, my cheese patty was soggy rather than crispy, which left me a bit disappointed. The actual filling was great still, but I think it should be a crunchier batter like it usually is. Also, we ask for fish bites for my partner every single time we go and they always say they have "run out" - Really - We've been asking on and off for the last year! Either cut some fish up to make fish bites (why can't you do this?) or take it off the menu. Simple.

After a middle-distance but most definitely wet walk we nipped into Carlo's and all got their £9 special - very large cod, chips, home-made tartar sauce, a choice of mushy peas, gravy or curry sauce, bread (where many places would skimp but in this case a proper slice of bread) and butter and a pot of tea! Whilst I finished mine, it was actually too much for the other guys (I guess I just wanted it more!).

Take out and a few booths and tables to eat in. The fish and chips were amazing no wonder they have won awards! Well deserved 5 stars.

Take out or eat in type casual restaurant right in the heart of town. Fish n' Chips were delicious and portions large that you can share a large order. A quick bite to eat so you can get more of the town in. Would recommend if you like this type of food. You can get take out and take it to one of the tables that they have out in town if it's a beautiful day.

After years of having very good fish from Carlo's in Morpeth, I have just had the worst piece of grey looking fish. Such a contrast to their usual high standard. When I put the remains - which was most of it - in the bin about an hour afterwards, the smell was strong and off-putting. Not a good sign.

Awesome fish and chips, only plaice in morpeth to get them, massive portions and the curry is really good too.

Came upon this fish restaurant by accident, so pleased that we did. All the food was freshly cooked and well presented. The fish was flaky well cooked and the batter did not mask the taste. We ordered the senior portion which was a good size with free drinks included in the price. The chips were excellent to taste well cooked. All in all recommend this excellent fish restaurant worth a trip you won't be disappointed.

Five years ago, we stopped at Morpeth while on holiday and had a meal at Carlo's. It was excellent, and so we recently revisited while in he area. We both had cod and chips, and were not disappointed. It was an absolute treat. The meals were freshly cooked, the batter beautiful, the fish tasty and the chips crisp and crunchy. He staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We look forward to visiting the area again in the future, and will head for Carlo's for our fish an chips.
