It's just as good as always. I withheld one star for service because they ran out of chips on Tuesday. Only meant a ten minutes delay, though.

This is a great restaurant. From the superb fish and chips to the fruity salad, everything was top notch. The service is quick, efficient and attentive. When I managed to spill my wine, they cleared up with minimal fuss and even replaced the wine! And I love the art 😊👍

Squires is the jewel in the crown for Braunton, along with SQ opposite. Great food, great service in a really nice setting! Prices are lower than the current average i would say, which is great! Make sure to save room for a dessert!

This place is simply fantastic. Best fish and chips we have had for a long time. Biscoff cheesecake also delicious and very reasonably priced.

Went for a birthday celebrations, table for 8. Great portion size. Fish battered cooked to perfection, lightly crisp! Great value for money!

Every time we are in Devon, we always come to Squires. We absolutely love everything about it.

I think we have been visiting this place for the past 12 years, whenever we are in the area. The food is always top notch and the service is always fantastic. When we first came here, it was on the more expensive side, but over the years, the price of fish and chips has gotten so high, Squires is now really reasonable. We had cod and chips with one side and a drink for £13.50. I would highly recommend.

A must stop for fish and chips, my personal frav is the Chicken burger 🍔

The best fish and chips I've had for quite some time! Worth the awards! The batter is just so good, it's not greasy or too crunchy. Spot on. Portions are big too and I don't remember it being that expensive. We ate in the restaurant.

Top notch fish and chips and friendly service. We loved our fish n chip supper here. It was busy but the staff were very friendly and the service and food excellent.

Good value for money fish was okay better was not very crispy but all in all good value for money.

The relentless impacts of the waves on my head today, made me fear for my life. After dragging ourselves out the water, we made it half dead with empty bellies in Squire. The warmth and smiles of the personnel brought us half back to life. After hearing about the best fish n chips in town, our expections couldn’t be higher. The first bite into that cod, reminded me who I was. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Dua Lipa brought some extra chips to the table. Against all the odds, this fish n chips revived my fighting spirit to ride the waves again tomorrow.

Excellent food and very helpful staff

Absolutely lovely restaurant, really quick service, staff were so accommodating of my 3 year old and the food was sublime. All 7 of us were really impressed and said it was probably the best fish they've had! Well worth a visit.

No difference in size between Medium and Large Cod (we had takeaway). Tasty but not amazing and batter very soggy. Would recommend travelling to Mortehoe instead, the takeaway there is excellent!

We both enjoyed our haddock, chips, and peas. Me garden and her mushy. Lovely tartare sauce, plus usual accompaniments. The battery was good, thouthe fish would have benefited from a minute or so less in the frier. The service was first rate. Professional, friendly and polite. What a great restaurant. Thank you.

Great Place for Fisn& Chips + more.We managed to obtain a seat , even though we didn't pre-book . Our Fault .Although only there was just 2 of us. Great Service, & Food. Very busy, on a damp evening. The meal was extremely dry for a start, the batter was crisp and the fish was tasty but there was not much grease to it. Some people may like this but to me, a proper chippy has to have some moisture. The chips were extremely dry and not soft and fluffy like proper chippy chips. Secondly, unfortunately we found two hairs in our food. If it was just the one I could kinda pass it as a one off but two..not really acceptable. One hair was found in the butter, the other was found in the curry sauce! So overall our visit to Squires was very underwhelming and the hairs were quite the put off. I wouldn’t return.

Booking is essential. It was very busy, but the service wasn't affected. Staff were really attentive and on the ball. We had the Cod &Chips special. I especially loved the thin batter, which wasn't greasy. We were given an extra piece of cod, on the house, as "apparently" our pieces were smaller than usual. We were very impressed. I had the Dessert of the day which was banana fritters with vanilla ice cream and can highly recommend it. It was delish.

Cannot fault anything , very reasonably priced food ( homemade fishcakes are incredible). Very child friendly.

Best Fish and Chips I have tasted

Went to Squires with all the family, 10 of us in total, we had a great meal of fish and chips, the place had been recommended to us and it lived up to that recommendation. Would definitely go again if we are in the area.

Learned about the elite food hygiene rating and I had to go. We went in and I was seated into a table for 4. The bathroom is a 5/5 because it had astonishing hygiene and it was very clean. Now onto the food, we were given menus and I picked the chicken nuggets and chips. The wait was only for around 10 minutes. The food came shortly, I started eating and I shortly realised why this restaurant had an elite hygiene rating. My food was delicious and noticed no errors in the order. The sauces were well made and the food was excellent overall. 4.5/5. It was coming to the end of my session and the check came. It was way cheaper than I expected. Overall: 5/5. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area and looking for a high quality, cheap priced, hygienic restaurant.

I was incredibly underwhelmed by the food from Squires. We ordered ahead expecting our food to be ready on arrival (we ordered 40 minutes before) and we then had a further 20 minute wait due to our order being bigger than some others, although only 6 of us and normal orders of fish and chips from all. What is the point of a click and collect system if you have to then wait past the allotted time. The food itself was mediocre at best, the fish was soggy and the batter was so tough it was hard to eat. The curry sauce was not a proper curry sauce it was effectively a congealed mango chutney. Chips were dry and tasted so old. Would not recommend and for somewhere which is apparently one of the best chip shops in North Devon I don’t hold out much hope for any of the others.

After many recommendations my wife and I finally went in the restaurant for an evening meal and I can only say that it more than exceeded expectation. It was busy - full, families and gatherings all ages but good atmosphere and well organised. My wife is no fan of seafood and went with trepidation but was pleasantly surprised by the extended menu offered, we enjoyed a lovely meal followed by desserts (huge), all exceptionally well presented by polite and helpful staff. Let's be clear - this is not a cheap eat, but it is not expensive either given the surroundings and the quality of food provided - value for money is exceptional. I have paid more for less many times. Many thanks to the Management for providing a wonderful experience, I thoroughly recommend this establishment and will look forward to visiting again when I am in the area.

We used the takeaway by the ‘click and collect’ option as it was the Friday night before bank holiday !! It was frenetically busy and we did have to wait 15 mins beyond out booked time BUT all the staff clearly working flat out but kept everyone informed - were pleasant and polite, smiling. Working so hard !! When it came , fresh and hot and really really great meal to eat on saunton sands beach. Really professional team behind Squires.

Busy but service was superb and quick, friendly staff and great food! Special cod & chips was so nice, id advise booking ahead at the fish restaurant, not sure about the bar on opposite side of the road, parking opposite also which is handy (public, pay via and app)

Came in for a small portion of chips. The atmosphere is lovely, it's super clean and modern. The staff were lovely, but my chips were not great. They were very dry and stale.

Can't rate atmosphere as I had take away, but 10/10 for food quality and the portion size is really good. Highly recommended in my book.

Absolutely delicious fish & chips. The batter on the fish was excellent, really light and crispy. The fish itself and the chips were just as good. It was absolutely heaving when I arrived at almost 7pm and it took 30 minutes for my order, I didn't mind though as the kitchen were clearly flat out and doing a great job.

Wonderful fish and chip suppers. We went twice during our ten day holiday for take away and found the mini box great value. Will definitely be going back.

This is simply THE BEST fish and chips takeaway I've ever been to. The queues are big for a reason!!! We enjoyed it so much we are from here 2 days in a row 🙈 The menu has something for everyone and portion sizes are huge!! I even ordered onion rings to take away when ordering inside the shop (they're not on the menu or online to order but they happily made me same and my god they were beautiful). Whitest flakiest fish and lovely fluffy, but well cooked chips. Also order the halloumi fries, literally melted in my mouth.... Run, don't walk to try this. You will not be dissappinted. Do not be put off by the queues as the wait isn't long and is well worth it. Can also order online really easily and chose a time to go and pick up. Friendly staff (and loads of them). Well done to all involved here, what a diamond chippy it is! Would give 10 stars if I could ✨️

Don't bother going anywhere else for your chippies- simple as that. We travel from bideford way to get our fish n chips as no where else compares! Their haddock portion is massive, and If you're a fan of curry sauce then you have to try here_ not your typical chippy sauce, Miles beyond!

Good main course and sides. Great curry sauce. Frustrating that there was no vegan option for desert - the single sorbet option was out of stock - so we couldn't stay for desert with a dairy intolerant 3 year old so can't comment on that. Fortunately there's a co-op next door! The service was poor when we initially arrived , and only got worse as staff seemingly rushed around when there was a power cut. I appreciate this was completely out of the control of Squires, but staff didn't even explain or check on customers (they could have at least made a little announcement - it's not large upstairs!). Maybe we were unfortunate with the service and situation, but we won't be making a quick return when better places nearby.

Hi, I found this establishment purely by chance when I asked a local in a local supermarket car park, where the best fish and chips are in the area and he directed me to Squires at Braunton. He said they were open all day and they have a very convenient car park opposite. He said that if this car park was full then Squires have won at the rear. This would be perfect for me as I was in a motorhome and would find difficulty parking a large vehicle. But the car park opposite was very accessible and convenient and right in the centre of town at £2 for 3 hours. He also told me that they would be open all day I didn't close at 2:00 p.m. Squires have two shops side by side, the main kitchen area and takeaway section. It has a large restaurant adjacent which was very full at 4:00 oclock. The staff were very helpful when I ordered two cod and chips and curry sauce for £24. They even provided batter bits, locally known as squibbles which I have never heard of before. They have three fish size options small, medium or large and we had the medium which were quite large and more than adequate for our elderly appetites. The chips were not quite to our liking as there were quite large and fat and we much prefer the smaller crispy ones. The fish that was excellent with the batter very crispy and no soggy bits. All round it was a pleasant meal and more than enough to satisfy our appetites. We didn't have to wait long for our order and it was presented in a brown paper carrier bag with a very friendly smile and enjoy your meal. I would certainly recommend this establishment for your fish and chips and if we are ever in the area again we shall certainly purchase more. Enjoy.

Take away Cod and Chips were excellent, queues were long so it shows how good it is. Curry sauce not so good, too sweet. Could do with some air-conditioning in the waiting area.

Lovely fish, average chips, good service Having been many times over the past 30 years.. it's just got a bit to polished for a fish and chip shop.. the curry sauce was a little pretentious.. while not unpleasant it wasn't "chip shop curry sauce" it was a strange blend of sweet Indian curry. Really nice people tho..

Incredible! By far the best Fish & Chips I’ve ever had in my life. Fresh, expertly cooked, presented and delivered. Excellent value and service. Restaurant was busy at 1pm but food and drinks was delivered quickly none the less by helpful and friendly staff. Great value too.

Great fish and chips. The curry sauce was superb. It wasn't the neon yellow you sometimes get, it looked like it had been made to their own recipe and perfectly complimented the fish. Service was excellent, and they were quick to help us after my daughter emptied a full glass of sprite on the table, even replacing it without additional charge. Would recommend booking in advance. We managed to walk in and get seated, but we must have been lucky as a que formed shortly afterwards with people waiting to get in. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again if we are in that part of the world.

Worst Fish & Chips takeaway ever. Fish was super bland and very dry, chips had a very horrible chemical taste to them & battered sausage was very over cooked. Very disappointing, considering it looks nice, modern & welcoming from the outside. And a little moan that there’s no saveloy on the menu.

Love this place for it's poached cod with white wine sauce. Fruit salad with their lush honey dressing.. and the ice coffee cream shake is lush.. pudding are massive.. service always great 👍
