I’ve not always rated Taylor’s but in the past year they seemed to up their game and produced really good food which deservedly got glowing reviews and ratings. They may be a victim of popularity or inability to cope with demand as my recent experience was poor. Friendly staff whittled through queuing customers taking orders. I arrived home with cod, chips and peas. The batter on the fish was soggy and stuck to the grease proof paper when unwrapped. Because it was undercooked but edible it fell simply fell apart when transferred to a plate. The chips were awful, very dry, anaemic and lukewarm as though they had been cooked ages before my arrival. The peas were watery and tasteless. I think the owners need to look at quality control as the standards have gone rapidly downhill in short space of time.

I was expecting a standard fish and chip restaurant but was pleasantly surprised to see an extensive menu to suit every taste. There was the usual battered fish and chips but also platters where you could choose how every item was cooked, not just deep fried. Prawns were great and hake well cooked. The service was friendly and efficient given such a large party and varying ages and tastes. I was impressed and will return .

Not been to Mersea for a long while due to our favourite seafood place closing. We was told about this place by a friend and we was pleasantly surprised. Great selection of seafood and fresh. Loved the bread in little boxes with butter slices. We went on a Monday and sadly no hot food was served as they only do that at weekends. We will happily return soon. Fairly priced.

We always use this place when in Bridgnorth. The cod and chips are great - so good that we don’t eat fish and chips when we’re at home and wait until our ‘next’ visit to Bridgnorth to have them there. The curry sauce has its own unique flavour too but it tastes sooooo nice!

17th of October 2024, walked in evening to order my takeaway.Got home and really looking forward to my dinner after hard at work. Tucked in and the chips were freshly cooked but the fish tasted been there for quite some time or it's the oil! Abit disappointed but had to eat at the end of the day.

W J Rowe, or more commonly Rowe's, is a superb Fish and Chip shop with a good selection of Fish, Pies, Sausages, etc. Mushy Peas can be obtained plain or with mint sauce (recommended). Staff are friendly and helpful. Can get busy at times (Friday evening for example) so pick your moment to check it out.
