What a great find for us today, after a long walk along the coast, then down to the harbour, expecting most places to be closed or about to close. Thankyou Elaine and the other staff , everything was, great, service and help 1st class, Cake , Coffee and oh 2 cheeky ice creams to eat on our way back to the car. So good we are retuning to Maryport on the train tomorrow for another walk in the opposite direction, then returning to The Harbourside for Lunch. Oh yes and very good value for money.

Part of the Aquarium complex, the café, as it's name suggests, has great views of the harbour. The tide was out when we visited and the handful of fishing boats were sat on the mud. We enjoyed a nice cheese scone each but our Cappuccinos were thin and water and devoid of any substance. The chairs were like those in a school classroom. There is plenty to choose from but some of the prices appear to be a bit steep. Other than that, a pleasant place in a great position.

We spent a couple of nights in our Motorhome at the campsite in Maryport, a few weeks ago. Came across this little cafe when we were out walking around the area. Had breakfast here both mornings ... good food, good service and good value for money. My husband had the trawlermen’s breakfast which set him up for the day. The bacon and eggs were cooked just as he likes them and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the vegetarian breakfast which was also lovely ... only very slight negative is that it said quorn sausages on the menu, however I was given the sausages that are filled with potato and veg .... a) i’m not a fan of them at all, and b) not really what I want with breakfast. That said, nothing wrong with how any of it was cooked, and really can’t complain about the cost. Service was good, staff were friendly, it’s dog friendly , very attractive selection of cakes etc on the counter I would have loved to try (a little later in the day) so, overall, very good. Would be happy to visit again if in the area.

We'd heard great things about this cafe so decided to give it a go. It is conveniently situated on the harbourside with big glass windows so you can admire the view. There are a number of choices on the menu and the prices are reasonable. Unfortunately every meal we'd ordered was overcooked. In hindsight we should have returned the sausage as it was almost cremated. The staff were friendly. I doubt we'll be back.

Called two weeks ago and found the establishment to be first class and well appointed, the staff greeted us on arrival and we found a table next to the window overlooking the harbour which was very nice. We ordered drinks and sandwiches and paid for them at the counter. I ordered a plain cheese sandwich which looked very nice on arrival but on inspection I found two types of what appeared to be cheddar cheese along with a slice of processed cheese. I had to remove the processed cheese as it was like rubber and had no taste whatsoever, my wife and I both agreed that the spread that they had used wasn't butter and didn't taste very nice. Not sure if we would eat there again in the future.

Our last full-day on holiday in the North/Western Lakes we decided to drive from our ‘home location’ of Keswick, the short distance to the coastal area above St Bees Head. Having spent time in Whitehaven we pushed-on some 24 miles further north to Maryport. Maryport is known for it’s Maritime Museum but we were for a short visit and decided that a cup of tea and a sandwich is what we really wanted. We drove straight to the harbour and fond this café. Sadly I can’t say that we particularly enjoyed our snack. My Partner’s ‘homemade’ scone was a too dry. Her first choice of a fruit scone was not available despite being advertised on the menu board up on the wall behind the servery. The presentation of my tuna melt toasted sandwich didn’t promise anything when it was plonked-down in front of me. It was a bit sloppy, but it was OK (at least it was warm). The tea was hot and adequate. It wasn’t expensive here, but regardless of that, it could have been better with a little more thought and effort.

First time visiting this place as was passing. Ordered a sourdough pizza which when arrived was cold as it was clearly a frozen pizza that had not been cooked enough. I asked for this to be cooked for longer and no apology was given. The pizza arrived back 5 minutes later and was still not cooked properly. It was inedible. My wife had the special veggie lasagna which was mushy and again clearly a frozen ready meal. For the price we paid (£20) for what would have been £2 worth of poorly cooked food from Iceland doesn't seem very good value for money. Will not be going back.

The Harbourside Cafe is next to the Aquarium in Maryport, and it is a great place to eat after visiting the aquarium, or just for a cuppa after a walk around the harbour. We are regular visitors to the cafe both with and without grandchildren and the food and service are always excellent. The cafe has lots of tables, a cosy stove in winter, and windows to three sides and the view of the boats and harbour, making it an engaging place to eat - there is always something going on, and even watching the tide rise and fall is fascinating. The range of food on offer is very good for a cafe, and the specials are always worth a look. There is something for everyone, including some gluten free offerings, and fussy children should have no bother find something. The tea and coffee are good and the hot chocolate is well piled up with marshmallows and cream. In the summer there is outside seating as well, so getting a seat is usually fairly easy even at busy holiday times. Great for children, and baby high chairs available.

First time here and very pleased with it. Both had fish and chips, mine large of course and my wife regular size. The regular size did not appear to be very much smaller than the large. Both fish were excellent quality and value for money. Staff were very good and helpful.

Visited after a few hours in the aquarium. Had soft drinks and cakes with our toddler. Very friendly staff who even took our snacks to the table for us. Lovely service, would recommend.

Great food at affordable prices, it's in the aquarium building but you don't have to be visiting the aquarium to enjoy the cafe, great place to meet friends for lunch or a coffee & cake/scone. Will definitely go back.

The food was lovely. Got exactly what we paid for. Staff were on the rude side towards me and another customer, service with a smile would be nice. However.. Would visit again.

Travelling along the coast we pulled into Maryport and headed for the port. The cafe was easily accessible on the north side by the Aquarium and staff seemed to be one of a family all helping out each other with a smile and joke.Ok we picked a quiet spell but our drinks and cakes were fresh and 'home' made.Good value

Although just 15 minutes to closing time, several staff welcomed us. We were served a pot of tea and delicious fruit teacakes with butter and jam. It was lovely. I would definitely call again. The selection of food and drinks was impressive.
