The best restaurants serving Seafood food in South West

Food was late. After 30 minutes we contacted the shop and were told the driver was outside. Another 20 minutes later the food arrived with no apology. Food was hot and tasted better than previous orders we've had from here.

I cannot doubt the quality of the food but this is an all time rip-off! The £85 tasting menu begins with three courses served on one plate for two to share where it is barely enough for one!! Then there are two deserts and the other middle courses are so minimal that you actually leave the table hungry!!! I also resent paying £49 for a bottle of wine which I Vivino'd and discovered I could buy it retail for £9.95!! Now that's an almighty RIP-OFF!!!

Chips were almost cold and didn’t look barely cooked. Got charged for a pickle I never got and this has happened everytime I have been in the shop. Chicken batter was greasy and not pleasant but the cheesy chips are advertised as cheese and cheese sauce, no cheese sauce and the chips were dry and almost undercooked. I’ve been to the chippy maybe 4 times over the past couple years as I want it to be nice but it just isn’t and it’s quailty of food is crap. Hate to be the one to say it but very poor and always has been, real shame I want them to be really good but just hasn’t been ever.

I clearly ordered Cod and Chips and a child’s battered sausage and chips , waited ages due to this crazy system where you ask one person who rights it down then posts it on the back , wherever you go this doesn’t work , just makes confusion worse ! Fish was full of oil and chips were almost non existent , only a sausage in a bag , no kids chips ! I ran a fish and chip shop for years , very successful , never amidst the chaos tonight , oh , and frozen chips reheated , not a great advert 🙈

My wife and I who locals often grab fish and chips while in town and nip home with it. We do share our business around but Puffins is often at the top of our list as its always pretty good. Probably not a complaint, more like a disappointment, we orderd 2 small Cod and chips and when we got home and set up the table we tucked in. We both looked at each other after taking a bite of the fish and said...... Pollock. ? Tried to phone to ask if we were mistaken but the phone wasn't answered. Please, oh please can we have our favourite fish and chips back. Cod preferably. Maybe the reply to feedback will say nobody else complained that day, but were they repeat local customers, or just bank holiday weekend visitors who didn't know the difference. I have over 175,000 views and do not moan over nothing, all good reviews from me. Come on Puffin you can do better...... Please.

We were staying locally and ordered takeaway fish and chips for our diner. The members of staff who served us were super friendly and helpful and the food was ready on time. However, the cod was overcooked and rubbery, the chips were slightly undercooked and soggy. My wife enjoyed the Thai Green Aubergine curry and the curry side sauce for the chips was also tasty. I wouldn’t hurry back which is a shame after we had a fantastic experience at Rick Steins restaurant in Padstow previously. Judging by other reviews, people have had a similar experience with overcooked fish which is something I’ve not experienced from other restaurants and chip shops in Newquay and Cornwall.

Love this coffee shop. They do the best mochas. Friendly team, always a great experience.

So after reading a lot of the other Google reviews. I have a summary. The really basic food is rubbish a lot of the time. They only take cash they say, but if pushed they will take card payments. This means literally only one thing. They are tax dodgers. It's very hard to prove and HMRC doesn't have the capacity to deal with this sort of thing. We can help by boycotting this awful takeaway. I'm sad because it used to be great for an occasional family treat. It changed hands 😥 Previous review before I read other people's comments: It was late at night, but the really basic food that they sell was awful. I just wanted some fresh chips, not too much to ask. They must have been reheated a few times, you can tell because one would be nice, one would be cold and another would have been almost rubber. I don't normally complain, but they weren't exactly friendly and if they're stretching their hours out that much, I think they should close a lot earlier and just go home. There's zero profit in keeping staff on after 8pm on a weekday. Pretty sure that I was their only customer for at least 30 minutes - I ate a few chips in my van outside and didn't see anyone else, most of it went in the bin. I've been there before and it was excellent. It might be under new management.

We went to Lydney to visit our daughter. My wife and daughter went into the high street to look in the shops have that’s the first time we had been there. When they were in the high street they decided to go into Ruddy fish and chip shop. When they returned home the first thing they said was they have not put any mushy peas in. Disappointed. But the chips was delicious crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. Fish was succulent batter was crisp excellent value bar the mushy peas was missing. It was too far to walk back to the high street as my wife is recovering from a broken hip.

The fish and chips were brilliant and the cheese and onion fryits were the best ever, just felt I had to say he will not beat the fish and chips from the shop.

Don't bother. Stopped going in when the previous bloke kept closing earlier and earlier... Thought "new people, give them a go" - Went in at 21:10... sign on the door says open till 21:30... can't get in, not just me, three of us while the people inside have an arguement, finally got their attention "Closed mate". Won't be going back again. Useless. Don't want customers.

The attitude of the serving staff was rude and abrupt. The food was way worse than any other shop that we've been to. It was overpriced and poorly cooked. The replies to people's comments in the various reviews shows how ignorant and unsuited to the hospitality trade they are. They deserve to fail as a business as they certainly aren't willing to learn from their reviews and make any improvements.

Thought we'd give it a shot to have real seafood, not fish and chips. They do have real seafood, but a very limited menu, and the chef seems to be a bit afraid of spices and salt. Fairly bland food overall, though the balsamic reduction on the veg was nice. It didn't help that when we asked for salt (there was none on the table) it exploded on the side of my wife's plate. Luckily, most of the salt explosion stayed on the side, leaving just enough on the food to make it OK. I didn't argue the bill, but I also don't think I'd return.

Long time to wait for food due to there being one guy taking orders and one doing the food cooking and handing out the orders. Lots of people hanging around by the hatch making it difficult to get through when your number is called, they could do with asking people to stand and wait elsewhere. When our food did arrive one of the orders was wrong although I queried this immediately and was given an immediate cash refund. Chips were nice, not at all greasy although there were rather a lot for one portion with the fish! Perhaps a bit too much batter on the fish also.

Grabbed me and my family some late night fish and chips coupled with a large mixed kebab. The fish was lovely with a nice crispy batter and was a good size for the money. Same with the mixed large kebab nice portion size and the meat was nice and juicy can't fault it. Will be using again. A*
