Rick Stein Fistral in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Vegetable curry was tasteless, served in a cardboard bowl. No sauce, little content & bland. Halloumi burger had little halloumi in it. Chips were fine. Glass or sparkling water had something floating in it. Glass was replaced but not the water. No view to compensate for poor food in an Autumn evening. Would not recommend.

LOVELY FISH AND CHIPS THE SERVICE WAS FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL AND THE RED WINE WAS GREAT

Restraunt was like a ghost town. Entrance was dark, dingy and uninviting. Service was very basic/rude. Untensils/cutlery was far from “well known” restraunt standard, general cleanliness felt minimal. Layout tables were very basic with very uncomfortable benches. Burger and bun was cold and came without requested cheese (already an additional £1). Was charged £2 for a tiny pot of mayonnaise which came out splattered all up the pot and a yellow/brown colour. Very disappointing.

The restaurant is airy, simple, We didn’t mind sitting in a bench as part of the experience. Plenty of space. We went for what we expected to be the best fish and chips ever…. We patiently waited for 30 mins for our food. After all, it was our Cornish experience! What a disappointment! The fish left a bad flavor in your mouth. I’d like to think that the fries were fresh but if they’d been pulled our of a frozen bag they’d been even better. The mushy peas was just a pea puree, which came as a supplement. It came in a little pot and put on the wrong plate. I’ve honestly had much better and elevated mushy peas before in the UK. Only two staffs to service at least 80 seats. Half of the restaurant was not open to patrons. By the time we left, people were waiting in an empty area of the restaurant for a table. Simply put if I were Rick Stein, I’d be ashamed to have my name plastered on the door.

Lily went the extra mile and we had a lovely family meal.

The food and waiting staff fabulous, what I wasn’t happy about was the female manager, who decided it was appropriate to chastise her staff in the middle of the restaurant, upsetting my party, no need totally unprofessional, so thank you for spoiling our lunch, and good luck to the poor staff

I visited Newquay on a recent trip with the family and also my first time to Cornwall. As expected, a visit to Fistral Bay was a must with the surfing and large sandy beach and the weather (considering it’s October..) was absolutely beautiful. Whilst at the bay we looked for options of food, one of which was Rick Steins restaurant, nicely located looking out over the beach. You can choose either Takeaway or restaurant sit in however on my visit the Takeaway option was 25 minute wait as it was busy so we decided to move into the restaurant. The staff were friendly inside and the food was nicely cooked, however the only thing i must say is to expect expensive prices. A fish and chips is almost £18 and you only get a small handful of chips and a decent sized bit of cod (which was cooked lovely i must add and the batter was perfect!) however as people have mentioned in previous reviews you are paying for the brand name. A gin and lemonade came to almost £8 for a single aswell. Overall - Nice food and service just maybe avoid if on a budget!

I've been here many times over several years. Food is always good, the cod is meaty and cooked really well. Nice coating of batter that is not too thick or thin or greasy, lovely food. The chips are a nice traditional chip shop chip, but cooked well and plentiful. The price is slightly on the higher side, but your buying into a brand as well as your food which is common this day in age. The prices of drinks is really where the money is, £2.50 for a 330ml can of lemonade, that is a high mark up. Something to watch out for is when they have live music on, the musicians (always different in my experience) are good, but they are ALL too loud. As a family in a small restaurant, we can't have a conversation. The live music is a welcome addition, but it's not a festival, turn it down. You can't book a table, but in my experience, if you are there at 5.30/6pm, you will have a table without a wait. Overall, lovely food, gorgeous views, friendly and cheerful staff. Well worth a visit and we will be back again.

The food was delicious, fish cooked to perfection 👌🏼 Service was fantastic. We were even offered some complimentary cockles, I think as part of their celebrating unsung seafood month. We hadn't tried cockles before but they were so tasty and would definitely order them in future. Great meal out.

The food was absolutely beautiful, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The service was also fabulous, with the servers being incredibly friendly and attentive. Just a heads-up: a 7.5% tip is automatically added to the bill. Overall, a great experience! Not to mention the beautiful view, we were treated to a lovely sunset. We look forward to returning again soon.

Went to restaurant at 6.45pm, closes at 8pm. Only about five tables taken, queues at both doors to get in. Told that could not be seated due to staff shortage. Half the restaurant was closed inside and all tables closed outside. Only one person working the restaurant floor, complete shambles. If it was that bad why open at all? Why have queues at both doors, why not close one door? Very disappointing and totally not what you would expect from a restaurant with Rick Steins name on it. Rubbish!

Below average food. High chair filthy.

£12.75 for just the fish and this is the slop that was given. I was the only customer in there and I get batter with burnt bits stuck to it, that must be floating around in oil, such an easy fix. no care! no quality! u charge a premium price that is not up to scratch, I’d be embarrassed to serve that

Great tasting fish and chips, Had the Cod without batter which is the best so far in my Newquay trip. Of the other 4-5 dishes tried, the Nasi Goreng was the best tasting dish. Well worth a visit when in Newquay with great views of the ocean.

Being generous, the fish and chips are average. Fish was thin and greasy. Tartar sauce, almost pure butter and lots of bad chips. I'm sure Rick would have been much more critical.

Overall disappointed. Can't believe this is a Rick Stein restaurant. Ordered a goan cod curry, it had no real taste other than the few very hot chillies and the salt I added myself. The only good thing about it was the fish was cooked well. Other than that, it was tasteless and lacking much interest at all! Service was attentive and polite. Chairs were quite uncomfortable, but the view was great. Summary, not worth the money and quite disappointing visit wrapped in a good view. Wait for a table at the Stables above instead!

Was not impress with Luke warm to cold chips, the fish was full of oil look like it was cooked twice, friends onion rings was all burnt and full of oil, Waiter was polite friendly first class, Then bill arrived ,there was 3 items on the bill that we didn't have,only sauces at £2 each, While my son is explaining we didn't have the sauces which is no five minutes long, I was just about to leave a tip ,but told my son to pay the stupid £6 just so I didn't have to listen to somebody telling us we had the sauces, really, bill was well over £200 and iam dragged into saying we had sauces, Here's a good tip COOK YOUR FOOD CORRECTLY, Go to the fish and chip shop in Indian Queens for first class food

My wife and I enjoyed our cod and chips, followed by lovely local ice cream. We would definitely come back again. Although this experience was ruined a week later when we received a £60 parking fine. For over staying 15 minutes. The beach car park is a private company. With APN cameras. Which is disappointing that this wasn't made clear to the people/ tourists visiting. Perhaps, a sign or note on the menu. Might help future clients. (Sorry about the rant Rick and staff). Definitely no reflection on the food and staff.

Food is ok at best, insanely overpriced (£50 for fish and chips and a drink for two!!!) and service is an absolute shambles. Oh, and forget about a plate at that price, as you get your food in a cardboard tub. Prepare to wait upwards of 45 mins for your food. We waited 40 mins after we finished eating without being seen to (nobody asked if we wanted drinks or desserts, etc. or even the bill), we went and got our own desserts menu and then nobody came over to us, despite trying to catch their eye and saying “excuse me” as they walked past. Got their attention and they said “just hold on a second while I see to this table…” - the absolute cheek of it. The lady managing the restaurant is a busy body that doesn’t actually achieve anything, which if anything is amusing to watch. I’d hate to be a local here and be subjected to this type of thievery.

Would not eat here again.Had Cod and Chips with Mushy Peas,had to send them back as the whole meal was barely tepid in heat.This restaurant carries the name Rick Stein and there is no way he would pay for the meal that was served to me.Very, very disappointed with the whole experience.

Ended up walking out. Waited at the door for nearly 10 minutes to be told a table would be half an hour. There were lots of empty tables so I understand it might’ve been a staffing issue but we were largely ignored by the front of the house as she was mostly standing at the bar. It was suggested that we try the takeaway service as this would be much quicker. After queuing for 15 more minutes same said front of house came and said food ordered here would be at least 30 minutes. It’s fish and chips ffs.

Such a shame been looking forward to visiting Rick Stein Fistral!! Fish & chips so oily & over cooked even the dog wouldn’t eat it. Manager didn’t want us sat by her as she was on her laptop opposite, she told the waiter to move us!! Waited 40 minutes for sub standard & over priced food. When the Environmental Health Officer made a surprised visit the manager kept her waiting so long she had to approach the bar to be spoken too!! I’d love a reply as I’m sure Rick would be ashamed……

The views nice but apart from that it's over priced, not fresh fish and certainly not tasty. The service is very very slow but not unfriendly, I had to actually go and find someone to take our order in the end.

Went specifically for the Dressed Crab and when ordering told no crab, ok we’ll have the Lobster, no lobster! Had fish and chips which were very good and the salt and pepper prawns. These were so over cooked they were virtually impossible to shell. Complained and was offered only pay for on of the prawns, I said I don’t want to pay at all as they were all very badly over cooked. A young man came over said I can only offer half price as it will mess up our stocks! No apology for the dismal dish and abruptly said that all he can do. I paid 9p over the half price for the prawns but by this time I just wanted to leave. Nice fish and chips but over all a bad experience at Rick Steins restaurant!

We ate in the restaurant and we both ordered the cod and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked and the chips had a crispy exterior but were soft and fluffy in the middle. The staff were so welcoming and lovely. Definitely come here if you’re in Newquay!

We were staying in Newquay and took the opportunity to get a takeaway from Rick Stein at Fistral Beach. To say the whole experience and food was underwhelming is an understatement. We didn’t book (as they advertise as a casual dining experience with no pre-booking required), however when we arrived we were told that there were no tables available and we would have to wait. But we could get takeaway instead. We decided that we wanted to try the food, so went to get a takeaway. After ordering, and paying a lot for a fish & chips takeaway, we then waited for our food. Luckily we could wait outside but it still took over 35 minutes for our food to be ready. When we ate the food it was underwhelming at best. The chips, scampi and sausages were no better than our local chip shop back home in Somerset. We thought that maybe we paid extra for the grilled cod, but that was covered in rocks of sea salt and over grilled. We would probably not order here again and instead go to a local Cornish fish restaurant or local fish & chip shop.

Last Monday I went to restaurant on holiday. The staff were okay however not very helpful. The atmosphere was fine but was not wowed. After leaving the restaurant i got food poisoning and had the day ruined. It was not my favourite restaurant experience.

Went to Stein’s at Fistral for a drink. As locals we have been here many times and every time the service is terrible. I have never come across a less ‘customer centric’ establishment. You wait where the sign tells you to wait but everyone ignores you, so you go to the bar to see if you get more luck there. No. Yesterday I was ignored by 6 members of staff…. including the Manager! In the end I had to ask if anyone could serve me because I was being ignored. I must admit, at that point the bar tender was quite apologetic, it was a shame she service the beer in a cup with lipstick on. Also, whilst I was waiting I saw two other people have to grab the attention of the staff to assist them. It’s just aweful and really needs sorting. Not the standard Rick would expect I’m sure!

We were very excited to come to try the food here. We must say it is very disappointing and overpriced. We ordered chips and cheese from the takeaway counter and the cheese was barely sprinkled on top- not entirely what we expected! It also took 30 mins to order 5 hot drinks. The service was stretched and they were very understaffed.

The portions were smaller than advertised, the kids cod had no cod inside and the scampi was watery and flavourless, nothing was hot only warm. An expensive way to find out not to come again

The location is obviously fantastic and the staff and absolutely lovely! The food though, is very poor! The portion size was very small and food tasted very mediocre. I don’t think I would recommend this place to anyone.

£12.95 for a tiny cod and odd and sods of chips. I'm really not impressed with the quality of the food. And we ordered the vegetarian curry, it was SO awful we left it after one spoon. The view is great!

The food was not great ordered fish and chips ,Fish was missing as it was all batter folded in half chips bit under cooked .have had Rick's Fish and chips from Falmouth and Padstow allways been good Newquay I will avoid very bad.

Food was really poor bar the chips. 3 little bits of beef in the Rendang and had to send onion rings back because the use the outer skin so was like sellotape inside. I never return food! Really disappointing.

The chips were plentiful but soggy and greasy. The customer at the next table put his plate on the floor allowing his dog to eat his leavings, no member of staff did anything about it, making me feel it was considered acceptable. I won’t be returning or recommending this restaurant.

Wouldn’t come back again. The chips are oily and smelt like old oil that has been reused for all the fried food and the starter portion for prawn was just three small pieces with lots of spinach on the side. The restaurant is clean tho and Drinks are fine but wouldn’t be back for sure .

The view is nice, but it is quite noisy. The pad Thai did not even contain 50 Gramms of pasta. At least they should advertise it as an tapa or an advertiser. I hope this helps

Average food. Decent service. Overpriced. Rick gave his name to it but not much else.

Atmosphere is good, above the beach with nice tables outside. Service is stiff, not helpful, doesn't ask questions. The food is oily, flavor is lacking. The fries aren't great, the fish wasn't great either. The halloumi burger wasn't bad because of the sauce. I'd order a burger if you're coming here.

Unfortunately this restaurant didn't live up to reputation or expectations when we arrived. We waited over 40 mins for our food and when it did arrive, the chips were stale and the fish is something I'd expect to find out of a local poor fish and chippy! It was overcooked and greasy. The tartare sauce and mushy peas were a joke at £2 each and certainly nothing special! Won't be going back. They seem to be prioritising takeaways over dine in customers.

Rick should be ashamed. The food’s a joke. Staff are nice, but that’s as far as it goes. Overpriced and tasteless. Save your money and go somewhere (anywhere?) else.

Ordered Pah Thai noodles, grilled shellfish with fries and a spinach and cress salad. All in all a disaster! The noodles in the cardboard box were completely over-salted (we returned them), the fries and fish tasted like nothing (half returned them), the mayonnaise was absolutely tasteless, the salad was carelessly thrown in huge pieces onto the silver plate with a plastic-wrapped soy sauce on the side! Is this supposed to be a dish? Far from good food and absolutely not worth the money! 0 stars for the food! Cider, water and service as well as the view of the sea were great!

Really disappointing. It wasn't a busy evening and had to wait ten minutes before even being noticed, the hostess was abrupt and quite rude. The gentlemen who took our order didn't look at us once, he was just busy shaking his head in annoyance by whatever the table next to us asked for.... both times. We had the beef burger which was nice and the chilli fish burger... it was such a small fillet it filled half the burger. To be honest.... I'd had better service and better fish from mcdonalds! The toilet didn't have toilet paper and had clearly been forgotten about in cleanliness. I actually found the younger staff to be brilliant and the older staff to be rude and not caring. It was a very quiet saturday evening and I would not recommend.

I ordered a fish and chips, chips were not cooked properly. I asked a waitress if she could replace the chips. Instead of simply addressing my request, the manager came over to our table. He explained that they use a different type of potato. While I appreciate the effort to inform me about their choice of potato, it didn't change the fact that the chips were undercooked and unpleasant to eat. They still added a service charge to our bill.

We went there got there for 6:30 waited to be served until 6:47 for a drink then to order we then got our drinks at 7:10 I chased them up to intaking a food order said they would get us in to the table indoors when we first got served I seen 3 tables could of sat at. But said no they need to be set that was 15 minutes. Then they got us in we sat ordered at 7:30 ordered a chicken curry chips and onion rings my daughter had the pad thai when it came to us at 9:40 she tasted it wasn't very warm At all and she urged so I tasted it and tasted off wasn't any pad thai chicken fishy just an awful taste I tasted mine and it was not the goan chicken curry it was cod curry. Luckily I'm not allergic to fish. As was expecting a chicken curry that curry wasn't nice ethier the onions rings had more grease and oil. On the plate. It was disgusting I wasn't the only one we sat with a couple out side they checked in saud come sit with them again after I said we have t git our meal yet they said ohh really that was ages ago and said there's wasn't what it said. Ether and was not great tasting. They was rude left you there for ages seeing you was there very abrupt. And just thobbed you off as they would look at you I did previously go to the bar before get a drink. They said no table serve is first I said okay she then said your be waiting 10 mins so said okay then said wait a minute turned and served someone else in mid conversation and i was there first like hello, but went to table I ended up waiting 22 mins to even be served.

Great place to chill and hit the wave! I was surprised that they had Asian menu!

Great food, great views over Fistral Beach and a sausage for the dog. Yes it's a little more expensive but I'm on holiday, well worth it

Lovely fish and chips. Not the cheapest by any stretch, but we're on holiday!

Firstly I would like to say the staff were loverly especially the waitress we had she was fantastic so polite and friendly.As for the food it was awful.The fish was so so oily,we tries 2 different curries and both had little to no flavour at all.the chicken curry had two tiny pieces of chicken not even a mouthful and the vegetable one had a smalll cauliflower florets and 5 green beans.Our waitress was loverly enough to go and speak to the manager about it and was mortified to have to come back to tell us that basically with the sounds of it didn’t care.We will not be going back .

The service wasn’t great and the food was even worse. For Rick to have his name is unbelievable it’s comparable to McDonald for quality. Had a cod curry and had to add loads of salt as tasteless, my dad, partner and friend also were very disappointed with the whole experience and the bill that comes with horrible food. How can you not even cook chips, the were not fried for long at all and soft as anything

Had tea here with the family whilst on holiday. We had heard the food was great from one of our family members and was a must to visit. The setting was lovely, the staff were very helpful and friendly, sadly the food was mediocre, we have better local fish and chip shops back home.

It was just OK. I expected a lot more. Nothing wrong with the food but I have had better. And very pricey.

Absolute rubbish. Went to the takeaway section as kids were freezing from being in the sea. You get put into the same food order queue as the restaurant. Waited about 40 mins, maybe more for the food. Long walk back to our car to find one of the kids meals was missing so had to go back. Chips under cooked, fish soggy, curry sauce pot very small and a bit of an acquired taste. Possibly the worst fish and chips I have had. Would rather go into town to a proper chip shop.

Food like in a bad snack bar, everything very bland and outrageously expensive. Nice atmosphere and nice service, but if you want good food, this is the wrong place.

Asian noodles are not recommended, the meat tasted old and only lukewarm. Very small portion and way too expensive.

Average fish and chips at best. Waiting 40 minutes for takeaway, clearly not organised in the kitchen, waiting for chips to be cooked so all of them undercooked. The location is fabulous but don't bother eating there. At £40 for two portions you're better off getting a cheap pizza downstairs to enjoy the fantastic location. Very poor and relying on the name and location to get visitors.

Me & my partner actually had a good experience here today. It took a few minutes to get seated, we did feel like we were about to walk away when people over the other side door were getting seated before us but we persevered & the experience from there on was great. Can honestly say it was one of the best cod & chips I’ve ever had. Yes, it’s £17.50 for a piece of fish & chips but the food is plentiful, the batter was absolutely airy crackly & delicious. You’d pay £14 for a burger & chips at a pub & get far less so the price point is on queue with others out there - it’s not extortionate in my opinion but each their own 🤷🏼‍♀️ the girls were very smiley, helpful & attentive. Food came out to us within 10 mins on a busy Thursday evening. All in all a nice experience & would absolutely come back in the future if we came to Newquay again. Ps. Onion Rings are top tier, the onion doesn’t separate from the batter & they’re crunchy! Hard to come by these days! Go try this place & I don’t think you’ll be disappointed (people are always more likely to complain than write something positive 🙃).

Nice place with the most wonderful view. We tried the fish and chips with scampi. The scampi were fine, but the chips...I don't think we have ever tried chips with so little taste and no crunch at all. We chose this restaurant because we have seen some of Rick Steins programmes where he makes the most deliciously looking food. I must say that this was a dissapointment and I can't believe that this is what Rick wants to put his name to.

First time visit at cornwall. Then we decide to eat lunch in this place. The place was amazing. We have an nice view from the beach. We wait for our food for 45mins. And we are dissapointed when they serve the food. I ordered Fish&chips and Nasi Goreng. Fish&chips not crispy as i expected. Nasigoreng it was to strong flavor, and they have loads of raw green beans. I believe if you cut small and blanch more it would be more fantastic.

Nothing special about the food. Not worth of the high price. Small portion of grilled fish and salty dressing of soya sauce, nasi goreng was nice but served in a takeaway box, and fish and chips were so so.

WOW! Rick! What’s happened? So excited to try one of your restaurants but a below mediocre experience! From the vacant looking staff to the highly average food! We absolutely hated all of our food! Bland, boring and tasteless! Gravy like fake bisto, curry like a microwave meal, chips like old cardboard and mushy peas…please pass me the tin! Don’t get sucked in! 🤮

Not impressed - you do not get value for money here and are only paying for a celebrity chefs name. The fish was small for a regular and nothing amazing at all, compared to my local cod father! Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant in Heathrow Terminal 2 airside serve a Fantastic portion of fish and chips where the fish is flavoured and worth the money. I am no Egon Ronay but can tell the difference where you are being sold food that is very basic for money. 2 * is me being generous…

Summed up in 2 words "extremely disappointing". Not at all worth the wait for a table or worth the high costs. I had the regular Cod and Chips. The fish and the batter were bland and almost tasteless. The chips were very average. My partner had the lemon sole which was equally tasteless. Her watercress and spinach salad was basically leaves dumped on the plate with heavily cut pieces of cucumber. Not at all what I expected from a restaurant with Rick Steins name over the door. The staff were fine. The musician was good but so loud that diners had to raise their voices to chat. Overall not a good experience at all.

A very disappointing meal of fish & soggy chips .

I should have read some of these reviews here and NOT rely on some chef's name : this is a total rip-off. The friendly staff was still trying to make it as pleasant as possible, however: chips pale, not crispy at all and half-cold, fish not grilled on the skin but scarcely touched the pan, no sauces - you had to ask for them and got just ketchup and vinegar! Everyone who plans to go there: go the any pub nearby and you will get better fish and chips for half the money! I am utterly disappointed. The location is great, but it is nothing that should be recommended any longer.

My first visit to a Rick Stein fish restaurant was very disappointing. Despite have a wonderful view over Fistral beach the benches were so hard and uncomfortable, one would not like to sit on them for more than 15 minutes! By the time our meals arrived we had already waited 20 mins. I didn't mind this because i thought all his meals were cooked to order. The very small for the price Cod was fresh out of the pan but the chips certainly were not and looked like they had been kept warm for hours. Whilst being serviced on a large stainless steel well scratched platter the portion of chips was enormous, just a waste as no one in our party attempted to finish them. The second star was awarded for the entertainment.

Really good food and excellent service. The restaurant was full but the staff were helpful and efficient. We had the cod curry and pad Thai and a couple of glasses of Sauvignon blanc. Lovely deserts, cheesecake and strawberry fool. Lovely buzzy and friendly atmosphere. Great location of course. Our first visit and will definitely return.

Visited on the spur of the moment after a visit to fistral beach. Very few staff , large group of customers left standing in entrance despite a high number of empty tables. Food took over 1/2 in a fast food restaurant.

Takeaway chips at £3.95 not too bad but when all the Fish, Sausages etc are ££££ it adds up to an expensive takeaway. Ordered two battered Sausages and chips with no drinks for £20 odd and was told 10 minutes, took 20+

Nice place to have your food , fish and chips are over priced in my opinion, £20 for cod and chips with a drink. Chips bit soggy. Fish was mediocre.

Great view and very friendly waiter who was happy to make me a very milky latte, delicious dessert and ice cream, the view was great, very clean and welcoming.

It is a very nice place, with live music, very atmospheric with a casual dress code. Located on Fistral Beach with amazing views over the bay. The fish and chips are very tasty and well priced. The home made mayo sauce is highly recommended. The cheesecakes served in little jars are just delicious.

Overpriced for contents. Ordered lemon sole (£20) and the portion was so small!! The plate was filled up with chips, but chips are cheap, aren’t they ? Bread roll was not even fresh, you can probably buy a better one down your local supermarket. Mayonnaise industrial and served in plastic box. Avoid ! Not worth it, Mr Stein, come down and review your food and pricing for this particular one!

Took my family here to eat in the resteraunt, and they all liked it. The fish was excellent. Good range of drinks, and food - not just fish and chips. The atmosphere was nice with live background music, nice spacing between table. They also do take away if you want to eat on the beach or the resteraunt terrace facing the sea. Recommended!

I thought fish supper was disappointing the chips were dry n been sitting for a while For regular fish was very small for the price Disappointed had looked forward to this coming to Cornwall on holiday Service was good

Had delicious hake with a mountain of chips which I couldn't finish. Enjoyed the attempt. My companion enjoyed his fish burger and ate the rest of my chips. Service was superb. Even though the weather was terrible the view of the beach was great. Perhaps it is expensive but it was well worth it.

A very disappointing and expensive meal. The fish was OK but the chips were inedible…tough and tasteless. Our local chip shop is far better and a quarter of the price. When it came to paying, a group of 5 staff were chatting at the bar and gave us a dirty look when we asked to pay. Never again!

Sadly cold chips and fish. Very slow service while only having 3 tables including us were seated.

Beautiful view and it was nice to have live music. The service was fine as they took drinks and dinner orders quickly. Unfortunately the food wasn't great and some of the party were unhappy to be served food in take away boxes.

I went by myself and the fish and chips were so good and the people that work here were so nice , friendly and happy.

Absolutely amazing meal at Rick Stein’s. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile despite how busy it was. Our waitress Maddie was absolutely outstanding. Massive smile on her face and so knowledgeable of the menu. Thanks to her our first night in Fistral has been an outstanding experience. One bit of feedback, my wife would’ve preferred her meal ‘pad Thai’ on a silver platter instead of a cardboard tub.

Rick steins fish restaurant, now who in the world hasn't heard of rick steins but until you've been there you haven't truly heard, you must go there for yourself, fresh fish chips, lovely and they definitely make the top 10 cups of tea. Is it all really worth the hype, go check it out for yourself and decide!

The staff are incredibly lovely, views amazing and the Goan chicken curry is phenomenal !

Got refused a table at an off peak hour citing too many backlogged orders. There must have been at least 6-7 tables empty. Seemed like the staff were reluctant to work.

Shocking! Place is half dead, waited an hour for food, which was £17 for fish & chips, which looks nice but tastes bang average at best. Toilet was clean though

Got told there were no tables when there was about 5 free. Service is poor, was waiting 10 minutes at the collection/takeaway point for somebody to take my order whilst lots of staff was working and didn’t even acknowledge me. I ordered two portions of chips and it took about 20 minutes for it to be ready.

I recently had the saddest meal of my life. It was a disappointing experience to say the least, especially considering the beautiful beach view that accompanied it. The highlight (or rather, lowlight) of the meal was the frozen fish that was served. It was evident that no effort had been made to prepare it properly, resulting in a tasteless and unappetizing dish. The combination of the disappointing food and the stunning view only served to highlight the contrast and leave me feeling even more let down. Overall, it was a meal that I would rather forget.

Went to Rick Stein’s at Fistral today (24/5/2024 approximately 6:25pm). Disorganised chaos in the open kitchen was being observed, we heard another customer complaining as he wanted to know how much longer his sausage and chips would be as he has waited 45 minutes. Took over 10 minutes for my takeaway order to be taken and I was at the front of queue. I was happy to wait as we had been looking forward to trying the fish and chips and were expecting something nice and tasty with the chef’s name above the door. Unfortunately the quality and taste did not live up to the prices being charged (£16.95 for regular cod and chips). I have to say the fish and chips were very disappointing and I have had significantly better fish and chips for less than half the price being charged. The curry sauce was very nice and very tasty. The bread roll I ordered also came without butter on, if I had known this inside I would have asked them to butter it, but didn’t realise until we had sat down to eat them. Overall very disappointing and expensive, do not recommend this place for fish and chips.

Nice place on fistral beach with stunning views. Food was decent for the price, excellent service by the staff.

Got a take out from here, fish was nice, chips average but decent portions, I had fish and salad. Salad was very poor, stalky watercress and yellowing spinache with three pieces of cucumber. I should have bought a bag of salad from Sainsbury's for a quarter of the price. I expected more effort and freshness. Dressing was nice though. Try Sushea up the road.

We went here for a lunch. I really wanted to try chilli fish burger as it sounds unusually and I like spicy food. I was disappointed. I was expecting minced fish, mixed with chillies, maybe egg and some breadcrumbs and made burgers from it. Instead I got small bit of battered cod in a small bun with 4 small slices of red chilli on top of it and none was seasoned. Wow! Chips were absolutely horrible. Soggy, not a bit of crunch to them. We paid extra for spinach and cucumber salad. Dressing was just soy sauce and it was so salty I was not able to eat it. It was actually disgusting. And home made mayo is right waste of money. Service not once asked if everything is okay with our food. Not even when they were collecting our groceries lates. I would definitely skip this place. Better off with Tesco meal deal.
