Sometimes it’s the small things !! That add up and make a business a big thing !! Thank You Rick Stein !! I know you’ve been in this place a long time !! But This week was my first time in Cornwall and your beautiful restaurant and team made our cold, wet and windy stay here worth it 🤣🤣from the minute we were greeted we were made to feel really welcome we were taken then to our table where we were handed over to a lovely waiter called Paul who talked us through the menu the specials and even more important the personal informative description on the wine list I had scallop to start presented attractively in a shell Piping hot and tasted beautiful !! My mains i chose the seafood curry of which I'm so glad that i did !! It was so delicate and tasty !! Came with Cocunut rice and side accompaniments !! Just perfection on a plate !! Then for desert i had the baked rice pudding there are no words other than OMG !! I could of eaten it again !! But i was stuffed !! Thank You Again !! I would recommend any one visiting padstow to try this quintessential english jem of a restaurant !! Its How all Top Restaurants Should do it 🙏❤️🙏 What a Team !! What a superb Restaurant xxx

Look, it’s good food, but for the price, there are other restaurants in Padstow that are game changers. It feels quite dated now and that’s the issue. If you look at the up and coming restaurants such as Prawn on the Lawn, it feels like it’s in a time warp. I’m not knocking the quality, but it feels like this restaurant is lagging behind the new chefs coming in and bringing in more vibrant menus. Would I return? No. There are now other great options around this area that are more appealing. Also, the discretionary 12.5% service charge is a massive bug bear with all of us. Pay your staff a decent wage and leave it up to the customer to tip accordingly.

Fantastic fish restaurant in Padstow harbour. Excellent dishes as a starter, st Jacob shells with serano ham, mussels, sashimi and fresh crab. We ate various main courses (5 people, 8 in total), sea bass and spinach, turbot with hollandaise, fish and chips. Excellent service, fantastic and extensive wine list. Highly recommended!

We have never been to Padstow before and were wanting to go 'all out' with a special meal at the seafood restaurant.. we were not disappointed and our experience exceeded our expectations! Upon arrival we were greeted by the team who showed us to our seats, the interior of the restaurant was beautiful with lots of interesting contemporary art on the walls and intimate tables well spaced apart. The front of house staff were charming, bringing real personality and warmth to our experience throughout the courses, not the usual robotic fare served up by most chain restaurants these days. Special shout out to Pepe and a lovely lady from Cheshire (we didn't catch her name sorry!) who had been with the restaurant for a number of years. Great service which added so much to complement the food! Food wise I don't want to give many spoilers but the dishes tasted were exactly 'on-point' - our particular favourites were the brandade, the fish soup, the turbot with the hollandaise and the hazelnut meringue - top notch and compliments to the back of house team! Overall we had a wonderful evening which we will remember for many years. This was a real restaurant experience, a throwback to the old days before casual dining somewhat dumbed everything down, and the Seafood restaurant combined the best of both back of house and front of house, set in a beautiful, interesting dining room. A romantic experience that was worth every penny.

High end fine dining here, but mainly a special occasion place to go once. It felt rather like a dated hotel bar but admittedly they do do the classics really well. Service was second to none. A place to take the parents, or a special anniversary

The current lunch offer of 3 courses for £35 is amazing value. We booked for Sunday and had a great table. The menu has 3 options for each course; we both had the Mushroom soup with a puff-pastry lid to start; a beautiful, warming dish to combat the cold wind outside, at the end of Storm Darragh. For mains, my wife had the Hake with buttered leeks and a mustard grain sauce and I had the Chicken, leek and cider gratin. We shared a portion of squash and one of kalettes, which were beautiful. The Hake was perfectly cooked and was delicious and hearty. The gratin dish was hot, creamy and very satisfying. For dessert we chose an Apple and Quince Tart with vanilla ice cream and a Steamed Butterscotch Pudding which with a butterscotch sauce AND crème anglaise. They were both wonderful. £35 for this quality of food is a steal. The service was relaxed but professional and the whole experience was a delight. The Seafood Restaurant is one of our favourite places to eat; I have celebrated almost every birthday there, for many years; and it never fails to impress.

I’ve been lucky enough to eat here several times over the last 30 years and never written a review before. This evening we had a lovely meal, but couldn’t help feeling a little underwhelmed. Perhaps based on past experience we were expecting too highly. I skipped the starter as we’d had some appetisers. Halloumi was good … I had been expecting marinated anchovies, so the heavily salted ones in oil were a little disappointing … and sparse. The monkfish was fresh and beautifully cooked, but the sauce was lacking. Watery and not the spiced flavour I was expecting from the menu description. My husband’s sauce accompanying his steak was similarly bland. The chocolate fondant I had for dessert though was as good as I’ve had anywhere. Service was friendly, but a little sloppy. I had to flag someone down for another drink and then had to to wander off into a corridor to get my coat on leaving … none on which really matters in the grand scheme. I just expected better here. Not as sharp as it once was.

From the moment we arrived to check into our room, until we finished our lunch the following day, we received impeccable service from the knowledgeable, engaging and friendly team here. The food was, as expected, truly first class... My Cuttlefish bolognaise was delicious and the Tronçon of turbot will live long in the memory. What was a pleasant surprise was just how cosy and inviting the rooms here are. This would be an easy opportunity for the Steins to cut corners, but they are cosy, inviting and tastefully designed. In all we couldn't have asked for a better start to our holiday in Cornwall and would thoroughly recommend the celebration package to truly make the most of a visit here!

I have been to this restaurant many times over the years, especially for their lunch time specials. However I was quite disappointed today. The food was average at best and seemed very uninspiring. I hope that the restaurant is not going to compromise its food on price. The staff, as always, are great, as is the ambiance. Which saved the day. But with so many great chefs in and around Padstow I think Jack needs to keep a check on standards.

We'd been planning a visit here for years and finally booked one very wet and windy day in early March. Lovely bright restaurant and very pleasant staff. Started with a glass of prosecco at £9.60 each and ordered a bottle of wine at £33.00. Good atmosphere as the afternoon went on. For starters I'd been looking forward to Rick's Croatian black squid risotto but it wasn't on the menu any more. However, the mussel and saffron tart was good, as was the crumpet with shrimps and the sourdough bread with olive brandade. We opted for the large fruits de mer sharing platter (£110), which was beautifully presented on ice. Probably not the best choice on a wet day but very good quality and had everything seafood you could hope to have. Think it could have done with a little aioli or some sort of sauce. Will definitely be back - just unfortunate it's so far from Edinburgh where we live!

Very disappointing given the provenance and prices. Chips far too salty. Batter too greasy. Lobster overcooked...so very chewy. Visited on the shoulder season, which made for a lovely quieter (but still buzzy) lunch service. The service was excellent, with delicious food and wine brought at a good pace. We made up our own order of courses, with 2 rounds of dishes from the starter and sharing plates, which they accommodated happily. Lots of options for lactose intolerant people as well. Outstanding dishes were the oysters with spicy sausages, the crab with wasabi mayo, and the grilled padron peppers. We were also invited to ordered a glass of sweet yuzu sake with the crab, which was an inspired suggestion - truly lip-smackingly good.

Her personable character really made us feel like the only customers she had (we know she was very busy). The food was a credit to everything seafood, and all members of the kitchen staff need recognition for such amazing attention to detail. We had meal for 4 people on Saturday night, service was quite poor considering the high prices. We had to call the waiter every time we run out of drinks, didn’t give us water that we order too. We had to wait to order approximately 45 mins. Ordered octopus for a starter which was very average and not seasoned. As a main we had fish and steak which were ok, fish and chips very poor-really greasy-your local chippy does it better. Last main was spicy Singapore crab dish which to be honest is something you will not be able to eat. Crab pieces are way too big to handle with the cutlery given and it just doesn’t work. Very disappointing. Overpriced for what it is. Really long waiting time. Unfortunately can not recommend

With a point o' me finger an' a wee bit o' magic, I summoned a pint o' Korev, a crisp an' light lager straight from Cornwall's heart. 'Twas a refreshin' treat indeed! As me belly grumbled fer satisfaction, I set me sights on a hearty ribeye steak, flanked by thin chips, a spritely salad, an' an enchantin' garlic & shallot sauce. Though its appearance may not've been the fairest in the land, its taste held the power to charm any palate. The star o' the show? That delightfully delicious side salad, topped off with a heavenly shallot & garlic cream sauce. Even as the night fell quiet 'round this seaside haven, the spirit of jubilation danced in the air like a jig at a leprechaun's ball. As me adventure drew to a close, I counted out £43.45 as a fair price for the fine feast, accompanyin' pint, an' the grand memories that'll warm me heart for days to come. Sláinte, me friends! Good variety on the menu. While the produce is local, the recipes are not, which is wonderful. I particularly enjoyed the influences from other cultures - I had the Vietnamese fish curry - the fact that there were also meat and vegetarian options on the menu of the Seafood Restaurant. This becomes very important when you travel around Cornwall for a while and tend to get 'fished out' by the end of the trip. If I could change one thing, it would be the sparkling wine section of the wine list. Cornish bubbles and very expensive branded champagne do not float my boat. And I love sparkling wines. There are so many beautiful lesser known champagne or cremant varieties that could be added without breaking the visitor's bank on a visit that is otherwise well worth its price. Friendly, fun and very knowledgeable staff.

Unfortunately the experience at this restaurant has deteriorated over the years and today’s visit was so disappointing. The waitresses were great but one of the waiters was just plain rude and miserable. In the main, our food was good but we had to send back one dish as it was swimming in oil and the steam pudding with custard was just luke warm. We’d given up by then. In fairness the senior lady read our body language and asked if everything was OK and refunded our drinks but the event was spoiled. Such a shame as it used to be top notch.

Nice menu but the execution was poor. Instead of a whole lobster I was given half a lobster for the best part of £70. The lobster Thermidor had at least 3 pieces of cartilage in it which was really poor. Flavour was nice but served with only half a bowl of chips. The chocolate fondant was solid and cold in the middle. For the cost and reputation of the restaurant it was really poor. As others have said trading off the name and now failing to deliver. The name Rick Stein is very present in Padstow. A TV chef who runs at least 2 restaurants in the city, but mostly travels a lot. A good businessman anyway. The restaurant does not meet the desired standards of upscale and expensive cuisine. Wine was good, food wasn't bad, but everything was pretty carelessly prepared and not really seasoned in an interesting way. Example: Octopus with chili sauce, unfortunately there was no salt, very boring with a good product. Indonesian curry quite boring, no fresh herbs, no pizzazz. Paid 250 pounds for 2 people, wine, 2 starters and 2 main courses.

Ok, it wasn’t near the toilets or kitchen but by a server station which detracted from our experience. The general atmosphere in the place was flat. He barely said a word to us the whole time while speaking a lot to every other table and seeming really happy with them. Even when we thanked him multiple times he just walked away. We just felt like an inconvenience. When he delivered something to us he said something in another language (Spanish I think) that we didn’t understand then didn’t speak to us for the rest of the night. It was all I really thought about the entire because I’ve never had this before and it threw me a bit. Other than this, it was nice and all other staff were lovely. Me and my husband shared half a dozen oysters as usual plus the caviar and blinis which are tiny and very light as an appetiser, then we both had the chilled seafood with aoli, just delicious. Then for mains I had the pan fried hake with peas, parsley and pea shoots, it was just gorgeous, the sauce was to die for! Hubby always has the Indonesian fish curry and pronounced it the best he's ever had! I had the panna cotta with stewed rhubarb, hubby had ice cream and sorbet for dessert. All perfect. Staying ''nearby'' we'd arranged well in advance an evening meal here. We arrived about 30 mins early and were graciously seated. This is our first ever dining experience like this. You see stuff on the TV all the time, but in no way does the ambience and experience get captured at all. We were shown to our table and to my great joy it was opposite to the kitchen door and I could clearly see the pass 😁 Our waitress Linda was soon with us and left our menu's and took our drinks requests, water for me and their' pina-colada for my wife, it was explained that it was not a ''normal one'' that said when it swiftly came, it was like a short with a mixer, and absolutley delicious! On placing our food order, Linda was so so helpful in assisting my wife with her decision over the Idonesean curry, I stepped out of my comfort zone going for the charred sea bass. Sitting where we were, whilst we waited, it was great for me to see the guys on the pass, and the steaming delicious food coming out the kitchen and past us. Wife had the pleasure of seeing a myriad of cocktails leaving the bar. Our food arrived quickly, suprisingly as there were many patrons in and a large birthday party of at least 15 in at the time. My sea bass was amazing, can not fault it nor compare it to anything I have had before, or probably will again 😁 so nice, want it again. Wife had also taken a chance on her choice too, needless to say... It was delicious too, rich fresh and moreish. Linda came by, as did, I pressume Head waiter to ask if all was well, which of course it was 😀 Mains gone, places cleared, dessert time. Now I dont normally go for a dessert but the Choux chocolat creme had me, Wife went for the panacotta. Again 2 glorious dishes that will never be bettered. Expensive ? Yes Worth it ? Yes, every penny I've been to so called ''Top'' eateries many times but none have ever given us the great service that Linda and the rest of the FOH team did, nor the food quality from the kitchen brigade. We actually felt wellcome and left feeling quite emotional by the level of service we had recieved, theres so many places I could name n shame but won't. Thank you so so much to the team both front, back and kitchen brigade for giving us such an amazing meal and experience, I just wish we lived so much closer we could come more often. Big love

A bit mehh, expected better quality food for the price! The good - The bread starter garlic fish sauce thing was crazy good, better than all the rest of the food. The fondue was also decent. The bad - sea bass was dead, octopus starter flavourless. The okay - monkfish and the prawn curry were alright. Service decent when available. Atmosphere nothing to shout about.

Just average cuisine that doesn't meet today's demands. Lots of sauce for the fish, soft vegetables.

It was amazing food, only complaint was the food was a bit slow in coming. We live in France so we are not the American wanting instant service, but they had a glitch or something. Our server was a delight.

Excellent meals, I had the Lobster, my wife the Steak … DELICIOUS. We all had some Appetisers, the whole meal was what we expected and, even though a high price point, the cost reflected the quality of the food. We also had our anniversary acknowledged , thanks

Apsolutley superb meal. Really fresh sashimi, better than anything I have had before, even in Japan. We then had monkfish and fish curry which were both exceptional.

Good quality fish, could be more flavourful or seasoned better. Same with the side vegetables. We enjoyed our meal but left underwhelmed.

Wife and I enjoy a marvellous dinner at this restaurant, all our fish dishes were perfectly cooked, staff extremely polite and friendly. My only gripe would be the courgette flowers were greasy and undercooked, it was quite late so maybe that was the reason. I wish their place in Marlborough was more like this and less boil in the bag.

Terrible. Waited over an hour and our food still didn't arrive then gave up. They still tried to charge us telling us that the order was processed through the kitchen. No apology. Just a bill for £14 for 2 beers. Shan't be returning

Totally disappointed unfortunately and wouldn’t recommend, maybe we tried the wrong dishes but it was just overpriced and could get better elsewhere for much less

Food was great. Only thing I didn't care for was the scallops. The soy sauce on them was overpowering for the delicate flavour of the scallops. Lobster was delicious Fish curry was very good.

Terrible experience. Shocking service. Waited over an hour for food and when we left they tried to charge us for what we hadn't had! No apology or offer of compensation, just a bill for £14 for the 2 beers and almost 2 hours of waiting!!!

Very delicious, we loved the Dover sole. The restaurant is very loud. The prices are more expensive than on the sample menu in the internet (on the same dishes)

This is your nice restaurant you absolutely have to try. It's expensive but definitely worth the price. Very spacious inside, food served quickly and very amicable staff. The food is on point 😊. The Plateau de fruits de mer is a must try though it's a lot of food so come hungry!! Very classy place to take your date or family.

I won't say that this was my sole reason for coming to Cornwall and the UK but coming here was a big part of my plans and I was not disappointed. Right from walking through the front door we were made to feel welcome. The servers where outstanding and the food was just Devine. A big bucket list ticked off.

I’m used to having Rick Stein’s fish and chips at Padstow, which are really good. Not so at their restaurant at Fistral, Newquay. The fish portions are ridiculously small with lots of chips, even the chips were poor. My daughter had Scallops, they gave her three really small ones,on a tiny dish, just enough for a starter but not a main meal. The staff were very friendly though.

My husband and I popped into eat as built up quite an appetite after our walk. It was midweek and around 2pm when we managed to get stated. Both my husband and I ordered fish & chips. Fast service with a very short wait, eaten and was out in just over 30 minutes. All felt very rushed, seating like being back at school and so noisy we couldn’t hear ourselves speak- all open plan with wooden floors. We did feel food was overpriced and food was ok.

Outstanding fish & chips. The medium fish is a little small for a growing lad like me, so opt for the large. Peas could do with being mushier.... Young Theo serving is a top lad 👍

I wouldn’t ever return here, seeing as the manager, Tony, likes to post xenophobic comments on Facebook and laugh at desperate migrants who have died. Suck a lack of compassion and humanity from someone managing a local business within the community. Tony, you should be completely ashamed.
