Hands down best donner meat and chips I've ever had. Great prices and huge portions 10/10 would recommend

Had a fish and chips, onion rings and the Donner kebab was really nice with garlic mayo, a lot bigger than I thought it would be, but I rose to the challenge and finished it ☺️ 😋 I thought the chips were lovely, don't understand the bad reviews about the chips? Forgot to add a photo in the rush to eat it, cos we were starving!

Fantatic fish and chips. Had it here last year,unfortunatly i wanted Hake but was too late, as they had run out. So had Cod. This time i had Haddock. Bledy brilliant.

We were really looking forward to Fish and Fresh Chips.. sadly we had tepid chips which were very hard nothing like crisp on the outside an fluffy in the middle no chance, disappointing, the curry sauce was tepid and slightly warmer fish the fish was very very greasy not a memorable good experience at all would not recommend

I head here every week from Newquay, great service and the best chips around. Always served fast and with a smile, you do have to wait for your food to be cooked to order but I like that you know it's fresh. I honestly can not believe these guys have any bad reviews I have never had a bad experience from here.

I was discusted at the portion of chips 🍟 I ordered and could not eat them they were partly raw and unedible. I would not recommend this place. I travelled to far to go back and demand my money back.

What happened with this chippy use to be lovely food but went there last night and very disappointed put my kebab meat and chips straight in the bin even found hair in the kebab meat and it wasn't my hair will NOT use again

Tintagel is our happy place as my husband was born here and we got married locally, so we visit often! After have an early lunch with my mother in law we were not too hungry so we decided to share chips and sausages. The service was strange, they take your order and money, then a child ( about 16) serves you and gets annoyed when you don’t know the systems and you are standing on the wrong side. Not friendly or welcoming and the chips were some of the worse I have tasted! Scraps from the bottom but that was not what we ordered, we ordered chips! I am assuming they don’t really care as the reviews are not great on any site, because they basically sell to tourists ( or what they think are tourists!) who are not coming back. Disappointed to say the least. It’s a kebab/ burger joint masquerading as a fish and chip shop! The choice of fish to order is non existent! I am not saying don’t visit! The kebabs and burgers might be great!

Not that inclusive environment there.. staffs were rude and this business is more in to money making rather providing services.

Wonderful fish and chips sausages in batter gorgeous not long to wait

I popped in here this evening without reading any reviews which I would normally do but the smell was too good to resist. We walked back to our rented cottage a few mins away and the fish and chips were gorgeous. We had mushy peas and bread too!! I then read the reviews on here and was really shocked to be honest. I love good old fashioned proper chips and these were exactly that. The fish was cooked perfect. I would def recommend

Wow, Tintagel closes up early as did this chip shop - 8pm… The food was freshly cooked to order, but very disappointed to be short changed on fish bites. I saw the young girl serving but not paying much attention until I saw her serving up the last portion and having one extra piece. She played with it and thought about serving it, but didn’t. When we found somewhere to sit in the village it became apparent as to why she had that piece left over - she had not served them all correctly so we were one piece short. Could hardly go back as I am sure they’d think I am trying it on which would be natural…. The food itself was cooked ok, but feeling a bit robbed ruined the experience, hence the lower star rating.

On entry to the shop all looked great. Clean, tidy & busy. I then noticed the guy doing the cooking eating from his hand & not closing his mouth whilst eating, gross. We left immediately.

The staff were lovely. The food was average. I would love to give this place 5 stars, but I can't, the food just wasn't good enough.

This was the worst haddock I have ever bought from a chip shop, the fish had skin on it and the batter was pale and soggy, most was left, would be interested in knowing if the owner was a member of the fish fryers association. We only used it once the haddock was £8.50 I don't mind paying this in a tourist trap if it was good but it was poor should have taken the remains back for a refund.

Excellent service, prices and food. Surprised at prices due to location, but very reasonable. Staff professional, and polite. Recommended.

After a disastrous time next door we enter the big fish they we very welcoming and we really friendly food was ready in record time and was very tasty good value for money!!!

My partner and I visited after a long walk around Tintagel Castle. I think it can be hard to find a good fish and chips but these were probably one of the best we’ve ever had. The food was very fresh and came piping hot. The batter was crisp and not greasy, the chips were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend.

At 6.45 pm on 2nd July 23, I went in for 2 x fish and chips (they shut at 7pm). The fish was cooked fresh and was placed over the chips on a cardboard tray, the chips looked old and dry, so I said to the adult lady with glasses serving “are the chips fresh” she replied they had just been cooked. I then left having paid my £21. Less than 10 minutes later we sat down to eat and discovered the chips were only warm, dry and had been cooked most likely 20 minutes before we got there. Also, they were all the short scraps left at the end of the day, without a single proper chip amongst them, my wife refused to eat them and I only ate a couple. As such I would not recommend this place to anyone as the 3 staff were more concerned with finishing work on time than providing proper fish and chips to their customers. Very very poor.

We’ve really struggled to find a good chippy in North Cornwall over the last few years but think we’ve now found a real gem! Friendly welcome & Amazing Fish & Chips. The haddock was a generous portion & the chips were lovely & crispy. Very reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend. Looking forward to our next dinner from The Big Fish.

Couldnt eat it. Chicken too dry..fish batter greasy poor fish. Kebab small, bread with it not edible. Pinapple fritter greasy. Chips wasn't too bad.

After a long coastal walk we decided fish and chips was definitely what we fancied. The chips seemed to be overcooked and hard. Left over from lunch? The fish was OK but a lot went in to the bin. Very disappointing

First class ,we stay down tintagel often and always go here for tea and I can't fault it ,great food .

On a rainy evening in Tintagel these fish and chips were very welcome. Staff all very friendly and welcoming. A fair price, and the food cooked to order but no great delay in it being ready. Limited seating inside but we did take-a-way. Fish excellent, my wife not so keen on the chips but I would certainly visit again.

Was about 6.45pm...no cod ..only plaice..the plaice was very small. My regular chippys plaice literally fills my plate. chips weren't fresh .seemed reheated or had been sitting.the burger was cold.very disappointed.

I'm sorry for the poor review but I had already driven home to be greeted by these awful chips, no point in driving all the way back to complain. They were on the more pricey side too, and it was a busy Easter hols so I don't understand why I was given possibly reheated poor quality (black and green) chips? I waited patiently as I could see you were all busy and this is how I was rewarded. I'd advise don't bother, find somewhere else or go home and have beans on toast or something!

Awful!!! We went just as they opened thinking we'd have fresh cooked food....nope, chips are all black & green and clearly reheated! I wouldn't bother!

Sadly our chips were mostly green with an awful amount of black in them. I am aware the odd green chip is edible although bitter tasting but also toxic. They were so bad that even in a jovial holiday mood we had to return them. The Owner apologised and refunded one portion of chips, we will never risk going there again especially having read other reviews as they obviously don't care enough to change their practices.

I was a little unsure if I should try The Big Fish having read some mixed reviews. But I can categorically say these are the worst chips I've ever had and probably the most expensive. I don't like leaving bad reviews but feel that places like this need to try harder if they want a good Google rating that means every customer from first to last should receive the best food and service, not just use up the old scraps for the last customers. These chips were dry and shriveled with many black and green. You have been warned.

Totally overpriced ,chips were reheated and some with green bits on it the fish was tasteless with a greasy batter ...its really not hard to cook fresh chips and be pleasant at same time..angry that I paid a lot for this muck 🤬 binned it ....

Not impressed, chips looked like they'd been cooked hours before, lots of green and black ones, fish seemed ok, but very little batter and VERY greasy. Probably very quite evening, but no excuse for this poor quality. Having spent £20 on two fish n chips, we deserved better. Will not return.

We always come here every year when we are on holiday in Tintagel. However there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of food over the years. We always seem to get the scraps each time now. This is frustrating as the chips are very expensive for the quality We will sadly be trying elsewhere next year.

We had the lunch time special (small fish and chips) and we all said it tasted great. Highly recommend. Friendly staff also.

I cannot understand how this place survives. We have been unfortunate to have to use them on 4 occasions throughout 2022, because no food available elsewhere. Each time the chips have been made with inferior potato; many of them black and mostly little bits of hard pieces. Barely a whole reasonable chip to be found. The fish portions are very small for the price, but lots of soggy batter hides this. This shop would not last 5 minutes where we come from, where the portions are twice size for half the cost and quality is high. We think they survive on a captive audience.

I can recommend the fish and chips from The Big Fish, they are very nice. The curry sauce is very nice as well. You can also buy soft drinks, ice cream and lollies from there too. Well done The Big Fish!

Worst chips I’ve ever had. Called in for late evening takeaway, service was dismissive when I tried to make conversation. The server told me that the chips were ‘a bit crispy’ as they’d been double cooked. ‘A bit Crispy’= cremated and completely dry. Quite honestly I’d be ashamed to serve them at home. I see there are some good reviews so maybe I called at the wrong time, but they obviously knew the chips were not up to standard and if they’d said that and offered a discount or at least been upfront I would not have posted a bad review.

I brought 1 large chips, 1 jumbo battered sausage and a curry sauce and it came to £7.30. However the portion of chips was very small for a large, me and my partner got the large as it was entended for sharing but looked like a portion for 1. The taste was average not the best we have had, some chips brown/bruised greasy and the sausage was more greasy and not very crispy, however it was edable so there u go 2 stars.

These were the worst fish and chips that I have ever had. Spent 15 pounds on a large fish and large chips plus jumbo sausage. The staff were miserable. The fish was thrown in and wrapped up and the amount of chips wouldn't have fed a sparrow.

Really miserable man behind the counter that serves really small portions. It's a shame cos the chips are good you just not aloud many 😧

we found the service here is very frienly ,helpful and the staff are very polite, we have been com8ng too cornwall for nany years for our holiday,the fish and chips are cooked too perfections,lperfecr t size pietions ,tge best fish and chip shop in north cornwall ,thankyou too all the staff ,fortgeir excellent service,great fish and chips, we will be back too see you nrxt year for more of those tasty fish and chips,.thankyou kate and den yates.

So, this is the only fish and chip takeaway in Tintagel. But it offers some great tasting chips…and we had some great food (which we then went and had overlooking Bossiney Bay on a lovely summer evening). When we visited, staff were welcoming and friendly, despite having just had to serve a large group of about 20 people. If you are looking for traditional British takeaway of fish (or chicken or burgers) and wonderful chip shop chips whilst in Tintagel, then The Big Fish is recommended.

Had a meal here last night which was delicious. We had fish and my sin had a battered sausage and we all enjoyed it. They have sauces, drinks and ice creams with some alternative dishes to try. I will definitely go back.

We take kebab and we disappointed, it's was sintetick and reheating in microwave, we sick next day ,if you don't know how need to do kebabs don't do it !

We have kebab from here and my kebab was reheated in microwave,so I'm not sure how old it's was,taste like sintetick, and next day was fell not well let me tell you 1 if you doing fish and chips don't do kebabs stay on 1 thing! Very disappointed

Shame, usually really nice and lovely but this time it wasn't. Chips were hard, fish was slimey and under cooked. We spent over £50 in 1 order and when we phone to complain we was just told " oh well we have young staff". Not good enough for the prices of the portion sizes either. Real shame.

After the 30 min wait to be served and 18 min wait for only two large chips nothing else (48mins) Then to have chips scoped and chucked in a try. Absolutely delicious traditional UK fish n chips! Best I've had for years, and you can forget how it can be. Especially good eaten on the cilffs looking out to sea (although watch out for greedy gulls)!

We got a recommendation for this place and it is also rated quite good overall, so we went there for a chicken wrap, large chips and a kebab. The last one was o.k., but nothing special, the chips were a bit too greasy and cross...

Good grief. These are not chips. These are scraps. We waited 20 minutes to get our food as there were a lot of customers and the staff were very busy. When it arrived we took it back to our campervan and sat picking out the edible ones before throwing the rest away. Definately and without a shadow of doubt these were the worst chips we've ever had. We considered taking them back but with the queue being so long we decided not to bother. Reading other reviews it appears that The Big Fish have off days when the food is particularly bad. I guess we picked the wrong day!

We popped in here after visiting the castle. We eat a LOT of chips but we both agreed these chips were some of the best we have ever had. Good portion size and really crispy.

Quick service gluten free batter the staff were very helpful and explained the the oil was not gluten free which did not effect is found in Tintagle that several places accommodate for gluten free products

After reading some reviews I was put off, very glad I decided to make up my own mind. The four of us loved cod & chips so much we went back for more the next night. Would definitely recommend.

I understand that the fish and chips shop in tintagel Called the big fish was gluton free and had knolage of celiac and knew about this medical condition. My husband went in and try to order fish and chips gluton free he said is that celiac I said yes he turn around and said he couldn't do it . I have seen this review as one of there reviews saying he was aware of celiac and offer services . To me I feel he couldn't be bothered with me at all because it nent putting on a different fryer or he did not know aything about gluten free or celiac. I travelled a few miles because I read that the owner knew about gluten free and celiac . In my opinion he did not know about it my wife was upset as this is a medical condition. So I think u should remove this review about being aware of gluten free and celiac

Lovely fish, with a flaky light batter and chips.

Missing one cod which was ordered and paid for, but the one we did get was so soggy and dropping in oil that we didn't bother going back to get it. Expensive too, even if we had got the whole order. Very poor indeed.
