Ordered large cod and chips. what I got was a big portion of chips, but the size of the "large"cod I was served was no biger in length than the 8' inch tray it came on. There is no way that was large portion and I feel I was robbed. I should of complained at the time but I chose not to make a fuss. It was the last 10.90 they got from me. Robbers!

A phone call ahead of visiting identified that Palm oil in which chips are fried is also used to fry meat & fish items too ! As a Vegan with vegetarians in the family this is sadly unsuitable for us. Therefore cannot recommend. People with allergies/sensitivities to ingredients potentially found in or prepared with meat & fish products should consider this due to cross contamination in the shared frying oil.

Worst chip shop I've ever visited! Asked for plenty of salt & vinager - there was mearly a sprinkle of salt on them. Chips were nothing special, and as for the curry sauce - what on earth even is it? That is not curry sauce & was most definitely not edible. Wish I'd checked reviews before going there, won't be returning!!

Fish and chip supper for me and wife on a weekday night, we only had the traditional cod and chips but thought it was very good value for money, we only had one portion to share and the portion size was huge we were able to divide into two and was enough for both of us. Fish was well cooked and batter was crispy as it should be, chips were all good. For a fish and chip shop we thought this was as good as you can get, will return.

Visited whilst visiting the area. We read the reviews in advance which are very mixed but it was the closet to where we were staying so thought we would try it with ah open mind. The bad reviews are completely justified. The Chips were soggy, fish was very small and very greasy. Curry sauce did not resemble curry sauce and was not edible. Also a hair found in one of our meals. The Meal was not very enjoyable at all. The worse fish and chips I have had. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but experience was that bad.

Came to Ruddy’s because Bream chip shop was shut, phoned our order through for 5 people, the lady took my order and read it all back to me, she said it would be ready in ten minutes, drove to Lydney and my son went in to pick it up, 35-40 mins later he comes out with a box of food, got it home to find 4 or 5 items missing, phoned up said chip shop and told them what had happened, to which we were told that we hadn’t been charged for it, which is great but two of us couldn’t eat, they said we could go down and get the rest, my son told them we wanted all our food cooked again as the rest would be cold by the time we all sat down to eat, and we wanted our money back for the inconvenience and petrol, they wouldn’t agree to this, so we chucked it all back in the box took it back, had a refund and went to Rominos!

Lovely chippy, small portions but acceptable, the cod was nice but tiny I get a small cod from my local in Birmingham and it's twice the size The chips were spot on , as for the curry sauce I'm lost for words... never witnessed anything like it before in my life, it was pure filth, a mixture of gravy cat food and marmite, I've actually purchased an extra pot to take back home as no 1 would believe just how bad it was, why decent chip shops let themselves down with the little big things beggars belief 🤔

This place is usually good, today was disappointing, waited for fish to be cooked which was ok however they said five minutes, this turned out to be 9 minutes and the fish was very over cooked and stuck to the batter. Annoying as it is usually lovely, it was a different person cooking so maybe they need some advice. Mushy peas were lovely so was the girl serving.

We all really fancied some chips, but due to how late in the day it was, Ruddy's was my only option. After over 5 mins of being in there - just me and one other person, I gave up waiting. I'm not sure the server could have been any slower! She couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge me waiting or ask what I wanted so they could cook it whilst I waited. She was appalling but probably family so won't have anything done about it. Ahh well, at least it means we all avoided the 'Ruddy bum' for the night! Ended up walking out as she clearly wasn't interested in serving, I've never seen anyone serve a portion of chips so slow!

Had chicken, chips and a curry (apparently) got caught in Lydney at lunchtime and fancied a chippy. Chips were very greasy and the chicken was drier than Gandhi's flip flop, inedible! As for the curry well it wasn't your usual chip shop curry that's for sure, lukewarm and well looked fairly nasty to be honest, didn't risk any of it. I think the owners should cook themselves a meal and eat it then perhaps they wouldn't serve this rubbish to their customers.

Recently moved to the area and tried Ruddy's on the recommendations from this site. If people are going to recommend then at least be objective. The portion size at Ruddy's are tiny, and I mean ridiculously tiny. I scoop of chips does not make a large portion of chips and I stood and watched as the member of staff put one scoop for my LARGE portion. Next, the fish choice, why in the name of all thats holy do you only offer one size of fish??? My wife is a very petite lady who is not a huge fan of battered fish whilst I am a large and well build chap which a fanatic love of fish. WHY do we have to have the same sized piece of fish??? Also, why are they so much more expensive than everyone else? They won an award for chips several years ago, well I won a medal at school for trying really hard in the 100m at sports day, it doesnt make me Usain Bolt. I, as a test, ordered exactly teh same meal from a chippie about 3 miles from Lydney (neither deliver) and the quality was superior at the other place, the quantity was superior, the choice was far superior and the price was £5.20 cheaper at the other place. I will not use Ruddy's ever again, I will always go to the other place (rhymes with Flakeney locals) and if thats shut I will have a pizza or kebab.

Staff are (nearly) always extremely friendly, and the menu is basic, Portion sizes, contrary to the other reviews are fine, however, as some others have said, they are a little on the pricy side. This place loses 2 stars because:-The menu is way too basic, even for a chip shop. What happened to the delicious Garlic Bread you used to do?-Food quality can vary, depending on who is cooking. If you just want the usual chip shop food, then this is the place. Ruddys is our local chippie. Whilst the quality is always consistent (very good chips!), so is the quantity (not large portions) and excessive pricing. For example large bag of chips is over £2!!!! and fish more than £4!!!. Portion sizes are ok but not particularly impressive and they lack some basic chip shop staples e.g sausage rolls and rissoles!I frequently pop home to visit family and am a regular at the chippie there (Model Fish Bar in Neath). To compare, a large bag of chips there is £1.70 (huge portion- and delicious! ) and fish (very large) is £3.30) And of course they sell sausage rolls, rissoles, rissoles in batter, saveloys, pancake rolls etc.So whilst I would recommend Ruddy's as a decent chippie, be prepared, you will have had better value and choice elsewhere
